The Importance Of National Monuments
President Trump has decided to reduce two national monuments, the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase
Escalante in Utah, in the largest reduction of public lands in U.S. history (Washington Post). He plans
to reduce Bears Ears by 1.1 million acres and Grand Staircase Escalante by 800,000 acres in order to
make land for potential energy extraction or outdoor excursions. Bears Ears contains thousands of
intact archaeological, cultural and ritual sites. The monument is said to be managed by just the Forest
Service, the Bureau of Land Management but five Native American tribes: the Hopi, Ute Mountain
Ute, Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation, Pueblo of Zuni, and the Navajo Nation
also manage the area because of their historical ties to the land (Mens Journal). The Grand Staircase
Escalante monument is important because many historical discoveries have been made there. It is one
of the most important areas for paleontology because of the many fossils that have been found in the
area, which includes the Tropic Shale, a 94 million year old protected object (Washington Post). Both
of these monuments were established by previous presidents under the 1906 Antiquities Act.
The issue that is occurring in these monuments is that President Trump wants to reduce the size of
both Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante and make them available for companies to use in order
to extract resources, such as oil and coal. Native American tribes have many cultural sites that are

James T. Russell and the Invention of the Compact Disc Essay
James T. Russell and the Invention of the Compact Disc
James Russell was born in Bremerton, Washington in 1931. His first invention, at six years old, was a
remote control battleship with a storage chamber for his lunch. In 1953, he earned his Bachelor of Arts
in physics and graduated from Reed College in Portland. Afterwards he went to work as a Physicist in
General Electric s nearby labs in Richland, Washington. There he started many experimental
instrumentation projects. He was one of the first to use a color TV screen and keyboard with a
computer. He designed and built the first electron beam welder.

He knew that if you could represent the binary 0 and 1 with dark and light, then a device could be
produced that is able to read sounds or any other information without wearing it out and if he could
make the binary compact enough he could store a bunch on a small piece of film.
Bettelle let him pursue his project and in 1970, after years of work, he succeeded in inventing the first
digital to optical recording and playback system, the CD.
A CD is a simple round piece of plastic about 4/100ths of an inch thick, and 12 centimeters in
diameter used for electronic recording, storing, and playback. Most of a CD consists of an injection
moulded piece of clear polycarbonate plastic. During manufacturing, this plastic
is impressed with microscopic bumps arranged as a single, continuous, extremely long spiral track of
data circling from the inside of the disc to the outside. Once the clear piece of polycarbonate is
formed, a thin, reflective aluminum layer is put onto the disc, covering the bumps. Then a thin acrylic
layer is sprayed over the aluminum to protect it, and the CD label is printed onto the acrylic. The
compact disc was first used for audio storage only, but are now used to store audio, video, text, and
any other information in digital form, and are able to hold 783 megabytes in all.
The CD works, because binary information is

The Performance Of The Symphony
I have never had the chance to sit and watch a symphony before. I have heard them in plays and other
performances, but they have never been the main production in something I have seen. It was very
interesting to see the structure behind the sound. The amount of people and different instruments all
together making a cohesive piece of music was absolutely incredible. There appeared to be well over
50 musicians working together to produce different sounds that fit together so tenaciously. Among the
instruments involved in the orchestra, I noticed cellos, flutes, clarinets, cymbals, tambourines,
trumpets, violins, trombones, tubas, french horns, and even a few instruments that I could not
recognize. The diversity in the instruments created a strong yet effortless feeling in the listener. The
music flowed so well that it seemed simple and easy, yet when I looked into the orchestra and saw
how many components go into the composition, it is clear that it is quite intricate. The symphony was
set in a beautiful concert venue, the Boston Symphony Hall. The high ceilings were dripping with
elaborate chandeliers, creating beautiful lighting for the on stage performers. The chairs of the
instrumentalists were turned in a way so that all the performers could be viewed by the audience, and
the conductors back was turned so he could face his orchestra. The walls on both sides were lined with
two levels of seats, and four rows of seats were organized in front of the stage. Four windows

The 2012 Crash Of Convair N153jr Essay
The 2012 crash of Convair N153JR is a text book example of how human error and the absence of
crew resource management can result in the unnecessary loss of life. This accident involves a transport
company named Fresh Air Inc. that transported cargo between the Caribbean islands using vintage
1953 Convair aircraft. The co owner of the company, who was also the primary pilot, established and
nurtured an environment of relaxed rules and desultory aviation operations. The primary pilot
consistently flew the Convair aircraft outside its operational parameters by disabling key aircraft
systems needed for safe operations. Additionally, the captain filled Fresh Air with incompetent
personnel that could not maintain safe and airworthy operations. To further exacerbate an already
dangerous situation, assigned Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspectors were derelict in their
duties and performed only superficial inspections on the company. Numerous and serious violations
were overlooked by the inspectors and this removed the last remaining barrier for accident prevention.
The captain s insouciant approach to flying and company operations coupled with inept FAA oversight
directly led to the crash of Convair N153JR. Accident Overview On March 15th 2012 at 7:35 a.m.
Atlantic Standard Time (AST), a Convair 440 38 aircraft, identification number N153JR, lifted off
from runway 10 at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, San Juan, Puerto Rico. The aircraft was

Emerson s Ideas Of Man Breaking Away From Society To...
In the essay Self Reliance , by Ralph Waldo Emerson, Emerson conveys his ideas of man breaking
away from his society to become an individual. By compiling his thoughts into an essay Emerson
allows himself to express and clarify his ideas elaborating to the reader. His expression of his idea in
the second paragraph allows the reader to understand his thoughts of being an individual. Envy is
ignorance; that imitation is suicide;... This quote expresses the idea that envying someone else is
incompetent and by imitating them it s kills your true self. By becoming someone else there is no
room for society to change and expand itself, differentiating people as individuals. Through his ideas

The Main Types Of Market Research
Introduction
For this first assignment I will provide a manual that shows the main types of market research. Market
research is the method of gathering and analyse information about customers, competitors and the
market. Market research is used when companies want to focus on things like market trends, customer
habits and lifestyle, what price customers will pay for a product and what competition exists. This
type of research assists companies build an idea on how competitive the market is also business
owners can price their products efficiently with the understanding of the current market research.

Eg: changing the price of a product and seeing what happens. The advantages of using experiments is
that you can create real world, concrete and verifiable findings that can be repeated. This is the most
believable way for a general populous to accept a finding of a research team. There are also
disadvantages like high costs of performing experiments and it can also be dangerous. In addition,
experimentation can involve a long period of time waiting for something to happen; oftentimes,
multiple trials are needed to confirm findings.
3. Surveys, surveys are one of the most frequently used methods of market research. It typically
involves the use of a questionnaire (enquette). There are several ways of conducting a survey, I chose
for face to face. This is the best form of contact. It allows two way communication between researcher
and respondent. Eg: A questionnaire asks people in the streets a few question/opinion. The advantages
of using surveys is that it is flexible, gestures, facial and other expressions may be noted. The
disadvantage of face to face is that it may become distorted as a result of the interpersonal
relationships between interviewer and interviewee

Positive Aspects Of Immigration In Society
IMMIGRATION BENEFITS SOCIETY
Since the Human evolution, people have migrated from one place to another new place in search of
food and better shelter. The reason of migration has changed since decades, the purpose of migration
nowadays is to have better lifestyle, education, explore world, business opportunities and to have safe
place to live. As for the definition of the key concepts there are various interpretations for migration.
However, for the purpose this essay, immigration is a phenomenon where people move from one
country to another to reside there permanently, whereas, a society refers to a process where a group of
people with similar preferences of interests and motives, from different cultures, ethics, languages,
races reside in one community. Immigration directly affects the life of people in the society and in the
country as well. There are more positive aspects of immigration in society as compared to negative
impacts. Immigration helps to develop society and nation by contributing manpower and uplifting
economy. This essay agrees that immigration benefits the society. This statement will be supported by
analysing the following points; contribution of immigrants to raise economy of both host country and
their native land, it saves lives of refugees from disaster or a war that is happening in their countries.
Immigration promotes the economic growth of host and sending countries by providing manpower
which is explained in the essay below. Firstly, it

strategy aimed at anchoring its position as a leading producer of construction machinery on a global
scale. This strategy was directed by four underlying policies. (Exhibit 1) Caterpillar s goal in
competing in a global market was to seek new markets and increase its revenues. High R amp;D and
high capital intensity of Caterpillar s business, and homogenous customer needs favored the adoption
of an aggregation strategy. Caterpillar had recognized that due to its industry focus and worldwide

stage. Caterpillar s strategic goal for creating CML was to gain access to the Japanese and Far East
markets, which top management viewed as key in becoming a top global competitor. Access to this
market would have been impossible due to government regulations and other non market factors such
as outcry from local producers and protectionist groups. By partnering with MHI, Caterpillar gained a
partner that allowed it to navigate the non market factors in Japan and gain access to the regional
market, thus fulfilling its strategic goal of global expansion. In selecting a partner, Caterpillar was
looking for a Japanese company that shared its cultural values, its conservative approach to business,
and its management style. MHI, under the leadership of Mr. Makita, demonstrated such shared valued.
MHI had expertise in metal work, development of large scale machinery, and had access to plant

two partners. Further, the similarities in organizational size, operations, and culture made MHI a good
fit for Caterpillar. Since MHI had no previous experience in development of construction machinery, it

Character Analysis Of Medea
Edgar Allen Poe once said, I was never really insane except upon occasions when my heart was
touched . Some women in love may say the same, the infamous Medea included. Medea was a
married woman and a mother of two who was left alone and heartbroken; because of this, she sought
revenge after her husband left her for a woman of higher status. As she acted impulsively and
irrationally, she executed a murderous plan, one that left her old lover with the funeral plans of both
his new princess and their children. At first glance, one might say that she was heartless, evil, and
spiteful; however, by taking into account the motivation behind her actions, one can quickly change
their perspective to understand her reasoning. One way to understand someone better is to look into
their personality and how it was developed. Sigmund Freud developed the concept that one s
personality is classified into three main structures in the mind that are constantly fighting each other
until one area dominates. The three main structures within Medea include the Id, Ego, and Super ego,
systems that are easily seen and demonstrate how each part of her personality affected the outcome of
her story. When looking at Medea s Id, Ego, and Super ego, one can see how they influenced the
defense mechanisms and drew in possible traumatic childhood events from her youth that could help
to comprehend the actions she carried out. The analyses of Medea s background and decision making
factors are not a

Freedom In Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s Freedom To Breathe
Freedom to Breathe Response Freedom is a right that is often taken for granted by those who are
fortunate to call themselves free. Although it is underappreciated by many, those who have had it
taken away are those who truly understand, and are grateful for, the fortunes of freedom. Freedom to
Breathe, written by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, accentuates the importance of truly valuing liberty based
upon his own personal experiences. Diction and figurative language accompany the use of symbolism
to produce a gracious and peaceful tone that is utilized to demonstrate the importance of appreciating
freedom through the eyes of a prisoner. Repetition of phrases and words creates an emphasis on the
importance of appreciating small possessions. For instance, throughout the first two paragraphs the
phrase I breathe is constantly repeated to create a tone of content. Solzhenitsyn uses the repetition of
the phrase I breathe to show the reader how noticing even the smallest of freedoms will give a person
an optimistic view towards a bad situation. For instance, Solzhenitsyn states This, I believe, is the
single most precious freedom that prison takes away from us: the freedom to breathe freely, as I now
can (3) Upon his experiences, Solzhenitsyn finds that the greatest deprivation within imprisonment is
the absence to breathe freely among nature. By saying Solzhenitsyn is able to breathe freely, this
signifies that he held onto the hope, and gained an optimistic view that not

Apple iPods Changed the Way we Listen to Music
iPods have positively influenced the way people all over the world listen to and share music in the
blink of an eye. Since Apple introduced the first iPod in 2001, 350 million iPods have been sold as of
September 2012. That s enough iPods for every single person in the United States to have their own
device with twenty million still left over. Those are some pretty staggering numbers, considering more
iPods are sold every second.
The iPod has seven main parts: hard drive, battery, click wheel, display, microprocessor, video chip,
and audio chip. Older models of the iPod (with the click wheel) have a hard drive. On the inside of the
device, the hard drive is made up of platters, spindle motors, heads and head actuators. Platters are
little disks that are covered with a magnetic surface and then placed on a spindle. The disks have a
cobalt alloy substance applied to them which is placed on the platter by electroplating. Digital
information is stored on the disks and information is written on the disks by electromagnetic flux
through read write heads that change the polarization. As the platter rotates, the magnetic fields move
and the read write head senses electrical change between the moving magnetic fields.
The iPod has a small Liquid Crystal Display (more commonly known as an LCD). The molecules in
the liquid crystals in the screen go through multiple changes, one being the nematic phase. The twisted
nematic is manipulated when the electric current is applied to it.

The Two Major Theories Of International Relations
Introduction
The study of international relations takes a wide range of theoretical approaches. Some emerge from
the discipline itself; others have been imported, in whole part from disciplines such as economics or
sociology. Many theories of international relations are internally and externally contested, and few
scholars believe only in one or another. A theory of international relations is a set of ideas that explains
how the international system works (SparkNote on International Politics, 2010). Unlike an ideology, a
theory of international studies is backed up with concrete evidence. This essay will focus on two
major theories of international relations (IR), namely realism and liberalism to determine which one is
more useful in the study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Societal ideas, interests, and institutions influence state behaviour by shaping state preferences, that is,
the fundamental social purposes underlying the strategic calculations of governments. For liberals, the
configuration of state preferences matters most in world politics, not as realists argue , the
configuration of capabilities and not as, institutionalists (that is functional regime theorists) maintain,
the configuration of information and institution. According to Donelan (1990: 24), the central point in
realism is then that sometimes we as persons and still more important as associations are made moral,
for we have a common power over us; the state. He goes on further to say that we are not made moral,
there is no common power, and that is international relations as the frontiers of the state are the limits
of morals which on one side we have security of the state, on the other the bleak wastes of
international relations, where the states and great associations confront each other in cold

The Effects Of Mining On The Environment And Economy For...
Mining is the process or industry of obtaining coal or other minerals from a mine. A new mining
project, called the Back Forty, is was proposed and is located on the Michigan and Wisconsin border.
This project is said to begin around 2020 and created concern for some people. The Aquila Resources
Inc. is the company behind this proposal, and they said it will invest more than $300 million to extract
gold, zinc, copper and silver along the Menominee River (Bergquist, 2016). The Menominee river is
part of the border between Wisconsin and Michigan. The mine will have large effects on the
environment and economy for Lake Michigan and Wisconsin. The next paragraphs will discuss the
positive and negative effects that the Back Forty could create. One side would be for the mine and say
that the economic benefits would outweigh the negative effects on the environment, while the
opposing side would say the opposite.
To begin, those who are for mining would say that the Back Forty will have positive effects on the
economy in places near it. Many people could assume that opening a mine could create more jobs, and
essentially help the economy. One example, from another mine from Hunter Valley, is that mining
provided the major source of energy for industry, transport and economic development, (Cottle, 2013).
This shows that mining can have very good impacts. A specific way the Back Forty can affect
northeastern Wisconsin is it would generate more, than $20 million in new tax revenue

How Did Icarus Change Ovid s Life
The story of Daedalus and Icarus, reflected Ovid s changing thoughts and morals of his personal life
as he undergoes the life changing event of getting exiled by Emperor Augustus, through the characters
of the poem. Ovid is born an Icarus, innocent and naive, with no idea of how much danger awaits him
if he chooses to forsake his guide and soar in the boundless sky . Ovid s father planned for him to
become a political official, sending him to Rome to get an education, and then Athens. Ovid s anxious
father planned his future, as Daedalus planned Icarus s, in order to make sure their sons had

Perdix, after being murdered by Daedalus, was turned into the Partridge. The Partridge hides in
shaded places by the leafy trees its nested eggs among the bush s twigs; , writes Ovid himself in
Daedalus and Icarus, nor does it seek to rise in lofty flight, for it is mindful of its former fall. The
Partridge keeps in the bushes, not all the way under the ground in poverty, as Ovid s father thought he
would be, but also not high in the sky, bold and arrogant enough at the success of his career, which
causes him to take risks. The Partridge enjoys a steady life, living the middle way. After Ovid s poem
and a mistake , which he told his readers himself was the reason that he was exiled, he lived a
relatively average life. He was miserable enough at first in his prison, but not because he lived in
poverty, the bottom ground. He lived a relatively comfortable life, treated extremely well by
inhabitants of Tomis, and as stated by Kenney, there are hints in the later poems that Ovid was even
becoming reconciled to his fate when death released him. Ovid continued to write the poetry he so
dearly loved, but they never reached the grand heights of his earlier successes. They attracted less
attention, and made no bold statements anyone might find offensive. The once brilliant genius, Perdix,
who had surpassed even Daedalus himself, had learned

This is an example of hegemonic feminine ideology because they put out Wendy s mom to be the
typical housewife that agrees with whatever her husband says. This shows how women are supposed
to be submissive and do as they are told by their husbands. But it also shows how women are suppose
be more silent than men and are not meant to speak out what they think and how women are never in
charge. They do this to show that the women always have to support the men in whatever they are
doing. They always have to be one s cheering for them. Society has the idea of women always having
to be the supporters of whatever their men are doing they have to be right there along them supporting
them and cheering them on because according to society that is the women s job. Later on in the
movie Wendy tells Peter Pan it is her last day in the nursery room because she has to grow up and

Relational Database Systems And Relational Databases
Relational Database Systems
The idea of relational database was first introduced by E.F.Codd at IBM in 1970. It is a kind of
computer database in which data is stored in Relations and is represented in the form of tables with
rows and columns. Databases can vary in sizes, ranging from very small and simple to very large and
complex ones. Database users can access the data practically in an unlimited number of ways.
Relational databases help in finding the information in a quick and efficient manner that one is
looking for.Today many popular databases use the model of relational database.
The invention of relational databases have brought a number of changes to the business world in
which they operate specially for the businesses whose prime focus is on its customers, their likes and
dislikes to win more market share. There is no such concept as one size fits all in using this
technology, it varies from industry to industry. One thing may work for some businesses and may not
work for others, therefore it is advisable that one should shop around before investing in any of the
technologies because it is vital to find an industry specific solution. One technique to narrow the
search for industry specific solutions is to find out what our competitors are using to gain more
customer base.
When it comes to customers, the use of relational database management systems can help in linking
various features of business electronically, like connecting a customer with specific product

Recommendations: Although Adams has clear benefits should the acquisition go through and the
Adams strengths would seemingly be a perfect fit for Cadbury Schweppes. I do not assess Cadbury, at
this time to be in an ideal situation to acquire Adams. As well, Adams may not prove as lucrative an
acquisition that it appears to be. The pros to the Adams acquisition are that CS would more than
double its share of the global sugar confectionery market making it the largest sugar confectionery.
The key effect would be that CS would then contest Wrigley s global dominance. Moreover, the
acquisition would allow Cadbury Schweppes to go to the front of the grid in the confectionery market.
The acquisition would appear to be valuable to Cadbury Schweppes as Adams had higher sales than it
in a number of important regions such as Latin America.
However, regardless of the obvious benefits for Cadbury Schweppes, the acquisition presents
significant risks that to me outweigh the grandiose potential of becoming number one. Not only would
CS being overpaying for Adams but it appears to not be as profitable after the acquisition takes place.
Adams would lose $15M in back office services it currently provides. While it is believed there would
be a strong cultural fit at these two companies, CS was not prepared to provide leadership for the

wrote in his book the Tao Te Ching are important life learnings. Early Taoism philosophers left cities
to learn from nature and people living the life of the Tao, hopeful to bring human civilization into the
natural order. Lao Tzu left the Chinese emperor s court on a water buffalo, after growing tired of
politics, in hopes to make a change. On his Tao Tzu s Journey is when he wrote the Tao Te Ching. In

In china there is Tao School and Tao religion, Tao School which is studied as a philosophy focuses
more on understanding and practicing Tao. Tao religion revolves more around worshipping, rituals and
gods. However they both focus on living in harmony with the Tao. There are also people who use the
two approaches at the same time not defining to a specific categories. The Tao Te Ching was not
written as a religious text but its impact on china is tremendous. Taoism does have a religious aspect
to it. However I concentrate on the philosophical aspect which is compatible with other religions.
Many Christians freely explore the concepts of Taoism and add whatever they think is useful to their
own beliefs. The idea is to explore and learn the correct way or the better way to live life and to
conduct our lives by understanding some of the principles that rule our lives. I grew up Roman
Catholic but I do not hold those religious beliefs my parents taught me to this day. Prefer to be called
agnostic because I do not identify to any faith but I do not necessarily don t believe in god. Reading
the Tao Te Ching it helped me find other ways to live my life in a better way and I related to a lot of
Tao Tzu s beliefs about the

A. Basic Concepts 1. Observational LearningThe Social Learning Theory says that people canlearn by
watching other people perform the behavior. Observational learningexplains the nature of children to
learn behaviors by watching the behaviorof the people around them, and eventually, imitating them.
With the ―Bobo Doll‖ experiment(s) , Bandura included an adult who is tasked to actaggressively
toward a Bobo Doll while the children observe him. Later,Bandura let the children play inside a room
with the Bobo Doll. He affirmedthat these children imitated the aggressive behavior toward the doll,
whichthey had observed earlier. After his studies, Bandura was able to determine 3 basic models of
observational learning, which include: a. A Live Model, which includes an actual person performing
abehavior.b. A Verbal Instruction Model, which involves telling of details anddescriptions of a
behavior.c. A Symbolic Model, which includes either a real or fictional characterdemonstrating the
behavior via movies, books, television, radio, online media and other media sources.2. The state of
mind (mental states) is crucial to learning. In this concept,Bandura stated that not only external
reinforcement or factors can affectlearning and behavior. There is also what he called intrinsic
reinforcement, which is in a form of internal reward or a better feeling after performing thebehavior

The Importance Of Graduated Driver s License
Did you know that each year, car accidents result in more teen deaths than any other cause? There is a
way to prevent this and that is to institute the Graduated Driver s License (GDL) in all states. This
would help by allowing teens to earn driving privileges gradually. Instituting the Graduate Driver s
License will reduce traffic deaths among teens, and also gives teens the driving experience they need
to operate a vehicle responsibly.
A graduated driver s license allows teens to earn driving privileges gradually, rather than all at once.
The text states, For instance, some GDLs allow 16 year olds to drive only during certain daylight
hours; others require them to drive with an adult for a set number of hours before receiving a license.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author states, According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, states using GDLs
have a 5 to 15 percent drop in teen accidents. States that are using the graduate license have less teen
caused accidents than states that do not use the GDL. These statistics prove that the GDL can and will
work for those who choose to enforce it, and will lessen the amount of teen accident fatalities in the
state.
With a graduated license, teens will earn the experience they need to become skilled drivers.
According to the text, Studies show that it is inexperience, not age, that causes accidents. Think about
it: could changing the age from 16 to 18 really prevent accidents or just put more inexperienced adults
on the roads? Teens make up 7 percent of all drivers, but are involved in 20 percent of all accidents.
The reason being is that many teens do not have the road experience necessary to make safe driving
decisions.
The GDL is the best option for teen drivers, giving them safer a driving experience. Raising the
driving age will not change anything regarding teen traffic accidents; it would only take away driving
privileges from teens who are obeying the driving rules. The Graduated Driver s License will be more
successful in decreasing teen car accidents and ensuring the safety of these new drivers on America s

Theme Of Perseverance In October Sky
It s not that I m so smart, it s just that I stay with problems longer, by Albert Einstein. By persevering
and not giving up, success can be reached. Perseverance is one of the themes in the novel October Sky
. This book revealed the life of a young boy, Homer Hickam Jr., also called Sonny, who fought for his
dream of building rockets against all odds amongst a small mining town. As time elapsed in the novel,
Sonny matured and learned many lessons about rocketry and life, such as pursuing a dream, the
influence of an important person, personal ambition versus loyalty to someone else... Amongst all the
important themes in the novel, persevering against all odds is the most important one. The Rocket
Boys faced countless failure and errors during their rocket building. With almost no support from the
rest of the town, the Rocket Boys had barely any resource when they started. Living in a town full of
miners, building rockets received criticism and mocking from townspeople and even his family. ...

The first rocket Sonny ever built has blown his mother s rose garden fence down and caused a chaos.
Most of the early attempts exploded before even lifting off the launching pad. One of the rockets

The Rocket Boys examine each rocket carefully after it was launched to enhance their new rocket
design base on their failures. With him(Quentin), no matter what happened, I felt scientific. Failure,
after all, just added to our body of knowledge.

Invention Of The Camera And How It Revolutionized History
The Invention of the Camera and How it Revolutionized History Sense the invention of the camera in
1826 photography has been used to document everything from family portraits, social injustice,
sporting events, world news, expressions of joy and sorrow, and hundreds of monumental moments.
The camera has given man the power to reveal the truth visually. Throughout history photographs
have made enormous impacts on social consciousness and ultimately shaped public opinion on many
pressing issues in society. Although photography is often considered a casual pastime, the invention of
the camera has contributed to many aspects of history, science, and other important pieces of todays
world.
Before the invention of the camera, news traveled through word of mouth, writing, telegrams, and
other forms of communication. Often times important moments were depicted through paintings, and
drawings. Unfortunately, because of opinion and misinterpretation, many of those moments, had been
depicted incorrectly. Take, for example the Boston Massacre which took place in the late 1700 s
before the invention of the camera. In order to inform people of what is now known as the shot heard
around the world, Paul Revere, a famous American revolutionist made an engraving of the scene.
People are accustomed to trusting the accuracy of historic documents, however the composition of this
the engraving contains several inaccuracies that serious researchers should be aware of. In Fact when

Health Disparities And Communication Disorders
Health Disparities and Communication Disorders
Courtney Barringtine
Howard University
Abstract Currently in the Unites States, Americans are struggling to maintain quality health without
proper healthcare. As a result, health disparities have become a widespread epidemic plaguing
minorities. Many of the various health disproportions stem from the government s inequality and
racism. In other cases, genetics and socioeconomic status may cause health disparities. Overall, these
disparities may be avoidable or unavoidable depending on the individual. Recently, health disparities
have begun to implicate the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Speech pathologists have
developed a larger caseload stroke ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An article in Psychology Today explains that currently minorities become ill at younger ages, suffer
from more severe illnesses and die earlier than Whites (Lyubansky, 2013). Currently, minorities of low
socioeconomic status (SES) suffer from more health discrepancies than any other race in the United
States. Research has shown that these health disparities against all minorities have begun to implicate
all medical professionals including speech pathologists. Among minorities such as Asians, Hispanics,
Indians, Native Americans, and Middle Easterners, the African American race has been affected
tremendously by the health disparities in the United States. Currently, African Americans have
significantly higher mortality rates from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, cancer, diabetes,
HIV, unintentional injuries, pregnancy, sudden infant death syndrome, and homicide than do whites
Americans (Fiscella Williams, 2004). While African Americans may lead in these categories, other
minorities are not far behind in experiencing health disparities.
Causes
Biochemical theories have said to be a leading cause of health disparities in minorities. Various
research sources confirm that genetics plays a role in the prevalence of disparities among minorities.
Family traits such as metabolism, passed down illnesses, and life expectancy may cause an individual
to acquire poor health

Satire In Political Cartoons
Political cartoons and satire are a prevalent way to depict the current viewpoints in the political
system. In some cases, the cartoons can polarize people when they push the envelope too far.
However, in many cases, Democrats and Republicans alike can join in laughing at the humor intended
by the illustrators and writers. For my cartoon, I chose to draw a picture of an elephant crushing
Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate. The meaning behind my cartoon is that even
Republicans are trying to keep Trump from saying all the highly opinionated, offensive, and negative
things in his political campaign. Elephants represent the Republicans, and the Democrats are
symbolized as Donkeys. In my cartoon, the elephant sitting on Trump

A Reflection On Suspended Above Lessons
Suspended Above Lessons How could I have known that I would ve learned so much that day? How
could I have known that my whole world was going to change that day? Yet again if I just would ve
climbed down the same side of the tree, I wouldn t be writing this right now. The sun was veiled by
the perilous clouds looming over us, setting a somber look to the horizon. The icy air funneled through
my throat and surged through my veins. A small group composed of my Mother, Father, Aunt,
Grandma, Grandpa, and Sister trudged through the damp pasture. Me, being a tiny 40 pound five year
old, wandered behind the bundled up rosy cheeks. We found our way to a tree filled valley with our
leather skinned, rusty chainsaw wielding Grandpa Gary leads the ... Show more content on

That tree had been just another armored beast I had to slay. I found myself staring at the prickly, waxy
needles of the weaved branches that were sheltering me. I took an elongated breath and stuck my
tongue out as I grabbed a gnarled branch. I hoisted myself up the first limb and slithered through the
winding sprigs. My moves were almost like clockwork, delicate and in rhythm with my breaths and
my appendages. The uneven and disheveled wood was a great grip, but tore into my subtle fingers.
My shoe s soles couldn t take the uneven surfaces and relied on my arms to do all the work. The
offshoots got thinner as I proceeded up the tree, forcing me to be more skeptical of my movements. I
began to worry about the drop below, but my worry faded away as I felt the warm touch of the sun
wash over me. One more branch remained. I grasped that last branch and let out a deep breath. I
relaxed a bit and examined my hands. They were raw. The adrenaline faded and I was left with
skinned, throbbing hands and 50 feet to the ground. Somewhere down the hill, my dainty sister was
struggling her way up the hill. I returned to my big sister mode and started my descent down the tree.
This part was even harder than climbing up the tree with depending on my legs to support me. As the
twigs got wider, the gaps between them increased too. Sometimes I had to extend my whole body
length just to reach the next twig. This seemed weird because I didn t remember straining myself

A New Phenomenon And Donald Trump
The recent rise in awareness has brought the concept of income inequality to the forefront of
American s minds; however, this is certainly not a new phenomenon. The United States has struggled
with income inequality since its birth 241 years ago; the much bigger issue today stands within the
mentality of greed that has developed in recent time. While income inequality has existed since the
nation s birth, the looming threat to societies wellbeing is the emergence of a mentality of greed that
has grown unbridledly in recent decades. America s capitalist economic system has made the
institution of income inequality as American as baseball, cheeseburgers, and pick up trucks. Arguably
since the 1980 s and 90 s, an ornery wee gremlin dubbed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Donald Trump also sees obstacles as mole hills rather than mountains but in an albeit less shrewd way
than Hearst. When told that Mexico was not willing to pay for his southern border wall, his response
was the wall just got 10 feet higher! (source). (Insert quote about Hearst starting war here). Hearst
enjoyed the finest things in life and bought and built grand monuments to his wealth all over the
world. The list is far too long to detail but highlights include a castle on long island that F. Scott
Fitzgerald used as his inspiration for Gatsby s mansion, an h shaped mansion in Beverly Hills that the
Kennedy s vacationed in and can be seen in The Godfather, a quintuplex (5 story) penthouse
apartment in New York City, and a massive castle complex in San Simeon, California that sat on a
piece of property half the size of Rhode Island overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Donald Trump also
enjoys monuments to his wealth and has a number of significant properties like high rises around the
world, golf clubs, hotels, and the now infamous Mar a Lago Club in Palm Beach. Much like Donald
Trump, William Randolph Hearst was born into privilege. Hearst s father was a successful mining
millionaire and kickstarted his sons career by giving him the San Francisco Examiner in 1887
(source). Trump and his supporters often herald his empire by saying he built the entire thing from a

Inherent Thoughtfulness And Emotionalism In Life Is Beautiful
Life can be very beautiful. In contrast, life for many people during World War 2 was not so beautiful.
During this time, the world was at war. Gladly, during all the madness, in 1945 innocent people broke
free, and concentration camps were liberated. The film Life is Beautiful, Guido demonstrated the three
qualities; Inherent thoughtfulness and emotionality, expressive coherence, and wholeness and unity.
Guido demonstrates the first quality, inherent thoughtfulness and emotionality, when he first arrives at
the Nazi Concentration Camp after him and his son were taken from their home in Northern Italy by
local German officials. Guido is playing against his own emotions by setting aside all his personal
worries and doubts to do everything possible to be sure his son stays positive. Even though he realizes
that he just lost the chance to say goodbye to his wife, Dora, and what his son is about to experience,
he still plays the role of a sanguine character. When Guido played against his own emotions it showed
the audience what Guido mentally and emotionally would be willing to put himself through to protect
his family and dignity as a Jew. As a father, and the greatest role model his son will ever have, Guido
protected his son from the dangerous world that he knew was up ahead. This environment found in the
Concentration Camp is something that no young child should ever have to endure at such a young age.
Guido realizes that once his son becomes infected with this negative

  • 2. The Importance Of National Monuments President Trump has decided to reduce two national monuments, the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante in Utah, in the largest reduction of public lands in U.S. history (Washington Post). He plans to reduce Bears Ears by 1.1 million acres and Grand Staircase Escalante by 800,000 acres in order to make land for potential energy extraction or outdoor excursions. Bears Ears contains thousands of intact archaeological, cultural and ritual sites. The monument is said to be managed by just the Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management but five Native American tribes: the Hopi, Ute Mountain Ute, Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation, Pueblo of Zuni, and the Navajo Nation also manage the area because of their historical ties to the land (Mens Journal). The Grand Staircase Escalante monument is important because many historical discoveries have been made there. It is one of the most important areas for paleontology because of the many fossils that have been found in the area, which includes the Tropic Shale, a 94 million year old protected object (Washington Post). Both of these monuments were established by previous presidents under the 1906 Antiquities Act. The issue that is occurring in these monuments is that President Trump wants to reduce the size of both Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante and make them available for companies to use in order to extract resources, such as oil and coal. Native American tribes have many cultural sites that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. James T. Russell and the Invention of the Compact Disc Essay James T. Russell and the Invention of the Compact Disc James Russell was born in Bremerton, Washington in 1931. His first invention, at six years old, was a remote control battleship with a storage chamber for his lunch. In 1953, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in physics and graduated from Reed College in Portland. Afterwards he went to work as a Physicist in General Electric s nearby labs in Richland, Washington. There he started many experimental instrumentation projects. He was one of the first to use a color TV screen and keyboard with a computer. He designed and built the first electron beam welder. He knew that if you could represent the binary 0 and 1 with dark and light, then a device could be produced that is able to read sounds or any other information without wearing it out and if he could make the binary compact enough he could store a bunch on a small piece of film. Bettelle let him pursue his project and in 1970, after years of work, he succeeded in inventing the first digital to optical recording and playback system, the CD. A CD is a simple round piece of plastic about 4/100ths of an inch thick, and 12 centimeters in diameter used for electronic recording, storing, and playback. Most of a CD consists of an injection moulded piece of clear polycarbonate plastic. During manufacturing, this plastic is impressed with microscopic bumps arranged as a single, continuous, extremely long spiral track of data circling from the inside of the disc to the outside. Once the clear piece of polycarbonate is formed, a thin, reflective aluminum layer is put onto the disc, covering the bumps. Then a thin acrylic layer is sprayed over the aluminum to protect it, and the CD label is printed onto the acrylic. The compact disc was first used for audio storage only, but are now used to store audio, video, text, and any other information in digital form, and are able to hold 783 megabytes in all. The CD works, because binary information is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Performance Of The Symphony I have never had the chance to sit and watch a symphony before. I have heard them in plays and other performances, but they have never been the main production in something I have seen. It was very interesting to see the structure behind the sound. The amount of people and different instruments all together making a cohesive piece of music was absolutely incredible. There appeared to be well over 50 musicians working together to produce different sounds that fit together so tenaciously. Among the instruments involved in the orchestra, I noticed cellos, flutes, clarinets, cymbals, tambourines, trumpets, violins, trombones, tubas, french horns, and even a few instruments that I could not recognize. The diversity in the instruments created a strong yet effortless feeling in the listener. The music flowed so well that it seemed simple and easy, yet when I looked into the orchestra and saw how many components go into the composition, it is clear that it is quite intricate. The symphony was set in a beautiful concert venue, the Boston Symphony Hall. The high ceilings were dripping with elaborate chandeliers, creating beautiful lighting for the on stage performers. The chairs of the instrumentalists were turned in a way so that all the performers could be viewed by the audience, and the conductors back was turned so he could face his orchestra. The walls on both sides were lined with two levels of seats, and four rows of seats were organized in front of the stage. Four windows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The 2012 Crash Of Convair N153jr Essay The 2012 crash of Convair N153JR is a text book example of how human error and the absence of crew resource management can result in the unnecessary loss of life. This accident involves a transport company named Fresh Air Inc. that transported cargo between the Caribbean islands using vintage 1953 Convair aircraft. The co owner of the company, who was also the primary pilot, established and nurtured an environment of relaxed rules and desultory aviation operations. The primary pilot consistently flew the Convair aircraft outside its operational parameters by disabling key aircraft systems needed for safe operations. Additionally, the captain filled Fresh Air with incompetent personnel that could not maintain safe and airworthy operations. To further exacerbate an already dangerous situation, assigned Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspectors were derelict in their duties and performed only superficial inspections on the company. Numerous and serious violations were overlooked by the inspectors and this removed the last remaining barrier for accident prevention. The captain s insouciant approach to flying and company operations coupled with inept FAA oversight directly led to the crash of Convair N153JR. Accident Overview On March 15th 2012 at 7:35 a.m. Atlantic Standard Time (AST), a Convair 440 38 aircraft, identification number N153JR, lifted off from runway 10 at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, San Juan, Puerto Rico. During the two decades following WWII, Caterpillar management focused on an aggressive growth strategy aimed at anchoring its position as a leading producer of construction machinery on a global scale. High R amp;D and high capital intensity of Caterpillar s business, and homogenous customer needs favored the adoption of an aggregation strategy. • 10. Character Analysis Of Medea Edgar Allen Poe once said, I was never really insane except upon occasions when my heart was touched . Some women in love may say the same, the infamous Medea included. Medea was a married woman and a mother of two who was left alone and heartbroken; because of this, she sought revenge after her husband left her for a woman of higher status. As she acted impulsively and irrationally, she executed a murderous plan, one that left her old lover with the funeral plans of both his new princess and their children. At first glance, one might say that she was heartless, evil, and spiteful; however, by taking into account the motivation behind her actions, one can quickly change their perspective to understand her reasoning. One way to understand someone better is to look into their personality and how it was developed. Sigmund Freud developed the concept that one s personality is classified into three main structures in the mind that are constantly fighting each other until one area dominates. The three main structures within Medea include the Id, Ego, and Super ego, systems that are easily seen and demonstrate how each part of her personality affected the outcome of her story. When looking at Medea s Id, Ego, and Super ego, one can see how they influenced the defense mechanisms and drew in possible traumatic childhood events from her youth that could help to comprehend the actions she carried out. • 11. Freedom In Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s Freedom To Breathe Freedom to Breathe Response Freedom is a right that is often taken for granted by those who are fortunate to call themselves free. Although it is underappreciated by many, those who have had it taken away are those who truly understand, and are grateful for, the fortunes of freedom. Freedom to Breathe, written by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, accentuates the importance of truly valuing liberty based upon his own personal experiences. Diction and figurative language accompany the use of symbolism to produce a gracious and peaceful tone that is utilized to demonstrate the importance of appreciating freedom through the eyes of a prisoner. Repetition of phrases and words creates an emphasis on the importance of appreciating small possessions. For instance, throughout the first two paragraphs the phrase I breathe is constantly repeated to create a tone of content. Solzhenitsyn uses the repetition of the phrase I breathe to show the reader how noticing even the smallest of freedoms will give a person an optimistic view towards a bad situation. For instance, Solzhenitsyn states This, I believe, is the single most precious freedom that prison takes away from us: the freedom to breathe freely, as I now can (3) Upon his experiences, Solzhenitsyn finds that the greatest deprivation within imprisonment is the absence to breathe freely among nature. By saying Solzhenitsyn is able to breathe freely, this signifies that he held onto the hope, and gained an optimistic view that not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Apple iPods Changed the Way we Listen to Music iPods have positively influenced the way people all over the world listen to and share music in the blink of an eye. Since Apple introduced the first iPod in 2001, 350 million iPods have been sold as of September 2012. That s enough iPods for every single person in the United States to have their own device with twenty million still left over. Those are some pretty staggering numbers, considering more iPods are sold every second. The iPod has seven main parts: hard drive, battery, click wheel, display, microprocessor, video chip, and audio chip. Older models of the iPod (with the click wheel) have a hard drive. On the inside of the device, the hard drive is made up of platters, spindle motors, heads and head actuators. Platters are little disks that are covered with a magnetic surface and then placed on a spindle. The disks have a cobalt alloy substance applied to them which is placed on the platter by electroplating. Digital information is stored on the disks and information is written on the disks by electromagnetic flux through read write heads that change the polarization. As the platter rotates, the magnetic fields move and the read write head senses electrical change between the moving magnetic fields. The iPod has a small Liquid Crystal Display (more commonly known as an LCD). The molecules in the liquid crystals in the screen go through multiple changes, one being the nematic phase. The twisted nematic is manipulated when the electric current is applied to it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Two Major Theories Of International Relations Introduction The study of international relations takes a wide range of theoretical approaches. Some emerge from the discipline itself; others have been imported, in whole part from disciplines such as economics or sociology. Many theories of international relations are internally and externally contested, and few scholars believe only in one or another. A theory of international relations is a set of ideas that explains how the international system works (SparkNote on International Politics, 2010). Unlike an ideology, a theory of international studies is backed up with concrete evidence. Societal ideas, interests, and institutions influence state behaviour by shaping state preferences, that is, the fundamental social purposes underlying the strategic calculations of governments. For liberals, the configuration of state preferences matters most in world politics, not as realists argue , the configuration of capabilities and not as, institutionalists (that is functional regime theorists) maintain, the configuration of information and institution. According to Donelan (1990: 24), the central point in realism is then that sometimes we as persons and still more important as associations are made moral, for we have a common power over us; the state. He goes on further to say that we are not made moral, there is no common power, and that is international relations as the frontiers of the state are the limits of morals which on one side we have security of the state, on the other the bleak wastes of international relations, where the states and great associations confront each other in cold ... • 14. The Effects Of Mining On The Environment And Economy For... Mining is the process or industry of obtaining coal or other minerals from a mine. A new mining project, called the Back Forty, is was proposed and is located on the Michigan and Wisconsin border. This project is said to begin around 2020 and created concern for some people. The Aquila Resources Inc. is the company behind this proposal, and they said it will invest more than $300 million to extract gold, zinc, copper and silver along the Menominee River (Bergquist, 2016). The Menominee river is part of the border between Wisconsin and Michigan. The mine will have large effects on the environment and economy for Lake Michigan and Wisconsin. The next paragraphs will discuss the positive and negative effects that the Back Forty could create. One side would be for the mine and say that the economic benefits would outweigh the negative effects on the environment, while the opposing side would say the opposite. To begin, those who are for mining would say that the Back Forty will have positive effects on the economy in places near it. Many people could assume that opening a mine could create more jobs, and essentially help the economy. One example, from another mine from Hunter Valley, is that mining provided the major source of energy for industry, transport and economic development, (Cottle, 2013). This shows that mining can have very good impacts. A specific way the Back Forty can affect northeastern Wisconsin is it would generate more, than $20 million in new tax revenue ... How Did Icarus Change Ovid s Life The story of Daedalus and Icarus, reflected Ovid s changing thoughts and morals of his personal life as he undergoes the life changing event of getting exiled by Emperor Augustus, through the characters of the poem. Ovid is born an Icarus, innocent and naive, with no idea of how much danger awaits him if he chooses to forsake his guide and soar in the boundless sky . Ovid s father planned for him to become a political official, sending him to Rome to get an education, and then Athens. Perdix, after being murdered by Daedalus, was turned into the Partridge. The Partridge hides in shaded places by the leafy trees its nested eggs among the bush s twigs; , writes Ovid himself in Daedalus and Icarus, nor does it seek to rise in lofty flight, for it is mindful of its former fall. The Partridge keeps in the bushes, not all the way under the ground in poverty, as Ovid s father thought he would be, but also not high in the sky, bold and arrogant enough at the success of his career, which causes him to take risks. The Partridge enjoys a steady life, living the middle way. After Ovid s poem and a mistake , which he told his readers himself was the reason that he was exiled, he lived a relatively average life. He was miserable enough at first in his prison, but not because he lived in poverty, the bottom ground. He lived a relatively comfortable life, treated extremely well by inhabitants of Tomis, and as stated by Kenney, there are hints in the later poems that Ovid was even becoming reconciled to his fate when death released him. Ovid continued to write the poetry he so dearly loved, but they never reached the grand heights of his earlier successes. This is an example of hegemonic feminine ideology because they put out Wendy s mom to be the typical housewife that agrees with whatever her husband says. This shows how women are supposed to be submissive and do as they are told by their husbands. They do this to show that the women always have to support the men in whatever they are doing. They always have to be one s cheering for them. Recommendations: Although Adams has clear benefits should the acquisition go through and the Adams strengths would seemingly be a perfect fit for Cadbury Schweppes. I do not assess Cadbury, at this time to be in an ideal situation to acquire Adams. As well, Adams may not prove as lucrative an acquisition that it appears to be. The pros to the Adams acquisition are that CS would more than double its share of the global sugar confectionery market making it the largest sugar confectionery. The key effect would be that CS would then contest Wrigley s global dominance. Moreover, the acquisition would allow Cadbury Schweppes to go to the front of the grid in the confectionery market. The acquisition would appear to be valuable to Cadbury Schweppes as Adams had higher sales than it in a number of important regions such as Latin America. However, regardless of the obvious benefits for Cadbury Schweppes, the acquisition presents significant risks that to me outweigh the grandiose potential of becoming number one. Not only would CS being overpaying for Adams but it appears to not be as profitable after the acquisition takes place. Adams would lose $15M in back office services it currently provides. While it is believed there would be a strong cultural fit at these two companies, CS was not prepared to provide leadership for the merged companies in the expanded Americas ... Observational learningexplains the nature of children to learn behaviors by watching the behaviorof the people around them, and eventually, imitating them. With the ―Bobo Doll‖ experiment(s) , Bandura included an adult who is tasked to actaggressively toward a Bobo Doll while the children observe him. Later,Bandura let the children play inside a room with the Bobo Doll. He affirmedthat these children imitated the aggressive behavior toward the doll, whichthey had observed earlier. After his studies, Bandura was able to determine 3 basic models of observational learning, which include: a. A Live Model, which includes an actual person performing abehavior.b. A Verbal Instruction Model, which involves telling of details anddescriptions of a behavior.c. A Symbolic Model, which includes either a real or fictional characterdemonstrating the behavior via movies, books, television, radio, online media and other media sources.2. There is a way to prevent this and that is to institute the Graduated Driver s License (GDL) in all states. This would help by allowing teens to earn driving privileges gradually. Instituting the Graduate Driver s License will reduce traffic deaths among teens, and also gives teens the driving experience they need to operate a vehicle responsibly. A graduated driver s license allows teens to earn driving privileges gradually, rather than all at once. States that are using the graduate license have less teen caused accidents than states that do not use the GDL. These statistics prove that the GDL can and will work for those who choose to enforce it, and will lessen the amount of teen accident fatalities in the state. With a graduated license, teens will earn the experience they need to become skilled drivers. According to the text, Studies show that it is inexperience, not age, that causes accidents. Think about it: could changing the age from 16 to 18 really prevent accidents or just put more inexperienced adults on the roads? Teens make up 7 percent of all drivers, but are involved in 20 percent of all accidents. The reason being is that many teens do not have the road experience necessary to make safe driving decisions. The GDL is the best option for teen drivers, giving them safer a driving experience. Research has shown that these health disparities against all minorities have begun to implicate all medical professionals including speech pathologists. Among minorities such as Asians, Hispanics, Indians, Native Americans, and Middle Easterners, the African American race has been affected tremendously by the health disparities in the United States. Currently, African Americans have significantly higher mortality rates from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, HIV, unintentional injuries, pregnancy, sudden infant death syndrome, and homicide than do whites Americans (Fiscella Williams, 2004).
