A Critique of the Proposed National Education Policy Reform
Assure methods for lesson one
1. Assure Methods for Lesson One: Introduction to the Spanish Holiday, ‘El Dia
de los Muertos’
• A – Analyze Learners – I am teaching a seventh grade classroom
that includes 22 students, 14 of them are girls and the remaining
8 are boys. The class has a couple of different ethnicities
contained it; the majority of them are white, yet there are a few
African Americans and Latinos in our classroom. My students are
mainly visual and auditory learners; however, there are some
sensual and active learners as well in our class.
• S – State Objectives – After displaying a YouTube video and a
Voki and completing a WebQuest, the children will determine
what the Spanish holiday, ‘El Dia de los Muertos,’ is about with
90% degree of accuracy by completing the presentation listed on
the WebQuest.
• S – Select Media, Methods, and Materials – 1. Voki- TheVoki will
be played at the beginning of the first lesson to introduce our
journey through the Spanish holiday, ‘El Dia de los Muertos.’ 2.
YouTube Video – The YouTube video will be played following the
Voki and the video will serve as a basis to provide the basic
history behind the holiday. It also describes some of the
importance of the holiday. 3. Media and Materials – There will be
a poster displayed in the classroom portraying The Day of the
Dead and sugar skulls. The sugar skulls will serve as a talking
point between my students and I. 4. WebQuest – If time
permits, the WebQuest will serve to further the introduction and
history of the holiday. The students will display their knowledge
of the holiday by participating in a group presentation. 5. QR
Code- Students will scan the QR code before leaving the class for
that day and the QR code will give them information on why Jose
Guadalupe Posada important to the holiday, so they are able to
participate in the class discussion the next day.
• U – Utilize Media, Methods, and Materials- I created all of the
technology that I will use in this lesson, so I know that they are
all appropriate to use for the lesson. I will prepare my students
for this unit by telling them how high my expectations are for
them. I will let them know how I want them to understand the
history and importance of the holiday. I will use all of the media
and materials listed above in order for them to meet my
2. expectations of understanding the Spanish holiday of El Dia de
los Muertos.
• R – Require Learner Participation – I will require my students’
participation throughout this entire lesson. During the
discussion, I will continually make sure my students are paying
attention and trying to add their voice to the class discussion.
During the WebQuest, the students will definitely be participating
in the lesson because they have to get involved in order to
complete the WebQuest. At the end of it, they have to create a
presentation about the history and importance of the holiday and
present it to the class, which is the optimal participation in the
lesson.
• E – Evaluate and Revise – I will evaluate my lesson plan by
assessing my students’ knowledge of the history and importance
of the Spanish holiday. I will assess their knowledge through the
WebQuest, presentation, and class discussion. I will evaluate my
media and materials that I specifically created for this lesson by
using feedback from my students. Finally, I will see if my
obtained my objective for this certain lesson through my
students’ assignments. If I did not obtain my objective, I will
alter my lesson as many times as need be in order to effectively
teach the lesson of the importance and history of ‘El Dia de los
Muertos.’
