Assure methods for lesson three
1. Assure Methods for Lesson Three: Compare/Contrast Halloween and El Dia
de los Muertos
A – Analyze Learners - I am teaching a seventh grade classroom that
includes 22 students, 14 of them are girls and the remaining 8 are boys. The
class has a couple of different ethnicities contained in it; the majority of
them are white, yet there are a few African Americans and Latinos in our
classroom. My students are mainly visual and auditory learners; however,
there are some sensual and active learners as well in our class.
S- State Objectives – Students will compare and contrast the two holidays of
Halloween and El Dia de los Muertos with 80% accuracy through class
discussions and a writing assignment after reviewing a website using a QR
code.
S – Select Media, Methods and Materials – 1. QR code- The QR code will be
displayed on the board so students are able to scan it and read over a
website that helps with comparing and contrasting between the two
holidays.
U- Utilize Media, Methods and Materials – For this lesson, I created the QR
code that will direct the students to a website that contains important
information for the lesson. I have previously reviewed the website and it
seems appropriate to use in my seventh grade classroom. I will prepare my
students for the lesson by giving them high expectations; we are going to be
talking about a holiday they are used to celebrating and one they are not.
They will realize that I will not tolerate any rude remarks against any of the
holidays being discussed.
R – Require Learner Participation – My students will get involved in this
assignment through the class discussion and their writing assignments. They
will actively participate when scanning the QR code and discussing the
information presented on the website given from the QR code. After our
discussions are over, the students will have to write a letter to a friend
describing the holiday that they celebrate while making connecting points
between the friend’s celebrated holiday and their holiday. This whole lesson
requires the students to be attentive and actively participate in the assigned
activities.
E – Evaluate and Revise – If my stated objective is not met, I will revise my
lesson plan as many times as needed in order to accomplish the state
objective. I will assess my students’ knowledge on comparing and
contrasting between the holidays of Halloween and El Dia de los Muertos
through class discussions and writing assignments. This lesson is the lesson
2. that makes the unit relevant to the students’ lives because it allows them to
think in intercultural ways. It is very important for them to acknowledge how
similar and different other culture’s holidays may be to their own. So, if the
students do not display an understanding of the similarities and differences
between the two holidays, then I will revise my lesson plan until my
students are able to do that.
