It's 10 o'clock at night and there are groups of people hanging out in a nearby cemetery. The police are ready to go after them but you
and your investigative journalist team are able to stop them by explaining to them that the people are just celebrating the Spanish
holiday, "El Dia de los Muertos." But, what exactly is this holiday and why do people celebrate it?
In this Webquest, you and your investigative journalist team will create a presentation to explain to the local police force what "El Dia
de los Muertos" is and why it is widely celebrated in Spanish speaking cultures. Keep in mind that your presentation should include
the following important facts:History of the Spanish holidayHow it is celebratedWhy it is celebratedMention Jose Guadelupe Posada
and why he is imporantHalf of your team will create the written part of the presentation and the other half of your team will create a
verbal presentation. The written part can be a PowerPoint presentation, pamphlet, poster, etc. The verbal section can be a YouTube
video, News Broadcast, etc. Be creative!
1. To begin this Webquest, each member of the team needs to become an expert on "The Day of the Dead." Each one of you will
write a short paragraph, in Spanish, explaining "The Day of the Dead." I have listed below websites that will allow every one of you to
gather the appropriate information for writing this overview of the holiday and its traditions. http://www.inside-
mexico.com/featuredead.htmhttp://www.dayofthedeadsf.org/history.htmlhttp://www.celebrate-day-of-the-dead.com/day-of-the-dead-
facts.html#whyhttp://www.mexonline.com/daydead.htm2. There will be four members in your investigative journalist team, and each of
you will use one of the websites listed above to reference to for your short synopsis paragraph. 3. Next, there will be two
sections of presentation for the police force. One section will be the written part and two people from your team will be the journalists.
The other section will be the verbal part and two of the group members will actually present the information to the local police
force. 4. Since each member researched a different website, the first thing you need to accomplish as a team is to
organize the information that the team has already collected. Create an outline using Word in order to gather all of the information
already researched.5. Separate into the journalist and reporter groups and choose the type of presentation you all would like to
create. 6. Begin creating your written and verbal presentations, and remember to include all sources where information was
found. 7. Present all of your information to the local police force in order to stop them from allowing people to celebrate a
wonderful holiday!
You will be graded by the following criteria on the areas of: the written presentation, the verbal presentation, the usefulness of
information, and the grammar/organization of the project. Please take a look at the rubric below in order to help you create the best
project as possible.
