ASSURE
A. Analyze Learners
My students will learn holiday traditions of various cultures such as Muslim, Jewish,
American and African American. I will be teaching these traditions to my 4th grade class
consisting of eleven boys and nine girls. Of these twenty students two are Muslims, two are
African American, three are Jewish and thirteen are American.
S. State Objective
I will use videos, PowerPoints. Learners will also be doing activities that involve cutting
pictures out and placing them above the holiday it goes with. They will also complete crossword
puzzles and I will get my hands on food that family’s make during the holidays and share them
with my class. I will also implement the use of the SmartBoard, so my students can be engaged
in the learning. I will have activities and readings projected onto the SmartBoard. Eighty-two
percent of my students will know holiday traditions by the end of two weeks.
S. Select methods, media and materials
The use of computers (educational videos, PowerPoint), crossword puzzles, Word
searches, cut out worksheets and food from different holiday traditions. There will also be
activites presented onto the SmartBoard for them to complete. The learners will be asked to
create a small presentation on a holiday tradition I assign to them, I will also assign them to a
group of four.
U. Utilize media and materials
The methods and materials I will use to help my students learn holiday traditions are
crossword puzzles, word searches, food from Muslim, Jewish, American and African American
culture to link food to traditions. Also I will be using an activity that allows students to see a
picture of a tradition and be able to identify the name. They will do this by cutting out the picture
and placing it over the name. Videos and PowerPoints will be my method of media.
R Require learner participation
Learners will participate in crosswords, group discussion about the videos and
PowerPoints. Also the days I have food for the students we will also do the project of cutting out
pictures and placing them with their proper names. For homework I will ask the students to take
the word searches home and complete them for homework. Also the kids will be assigned to a
group of four, and be asked to create a small presentation where they must stand in front of the
class and present their holiday tradition I assign to them.
E. Evaluate and revise
Learners will be asked to present their presentation with their assigned group. The
students will be able to use PowerPoint to present. This is the “testing” part of the lesson.
