1. Assure Methods for Lesson Two: Vocabulary Terms, Decorations and
Meanings
A – Analyze Learners – I am teaching a seventh grade classroom that
includes 22 students, 14 of them are girls and the remaining 8 are boys. The
class has a couple of different ethnicities contained in it; the majority of
them are white, yet there are a few African Americans and Latinos in our
classroom. My students are mainly visual and auditory learners; however,
there are some sensual and active learners as well in our class.
S – State Objectives –After using a QR code to access information from a
website, students will demonstrate their knowledge on why Jose Guadalupe
Posada is important to the holiday with 90% accuracy through participating
in a class discussion. Following that, students will present their knowledge
on the history and importance of the holiday after completing the WebQuest
assigned on the previous day. They will do this with 90% accuracy through
group presentations. After reviewing a YouTube video on the unit’s
vocabulary words, the students will show their ability to pronounce the
vocabulary words through a class discussion with 80% accuracy. Also, the
decorations and meaning of the decorations will be discussed and the
students will be assessed on the fourth lesson in this unit when they are
asked to create a couple of various decorations for our celebration on the
day of the fifth lesson.
S – Select Media, Methods, and Materials – 1. QR code – This will be used at
the end of the previous lesson in order for the students to access the
website that contains the information on Jose Guadalupe Posada. 2.
WebQuest- This is also used in the previous lesson; however, the
presentations created at the end of the WebQuest will be presented at the
beginning of class today. 3. YouTube Video- This will allow the students to
get familiar with the terms that are going to be used in this unit. 4. Twitter –
Students will explore through a Twitter account that I have assigned in order
to acknowledge how the actual celebrations take place and where some of
the celebrations occur.
U – Utilize Media, Methods, and Materials – Yet again, in this lesson, I
created all of the technology used within it, so I know that all of it is
appropriate for the lesson being taught. I will again prepare my students for
what is expected of them in this lesson and in future lessons, especially in
creating the decorations and participating in the celebration. I want them to
know what the vocabulary words are for this unit and for them to be able to
say all of the terms. I will use the YouTube video in order to accomplish this
because the YouTube video created for this assignment is interactive due to
2. them repeating the vocabulary terms after it is said in the video. I did not
create the Twitter account; however, I have reviewed it and it does seem to
get the point across of how the holiday is celebrated in real life.
R- Require Learner Participation – As stated above, the students will
definitely be involved when it comes to studying the vocabulary terms
because the YouTube video is interactive. The students will also have to be
participating when we discuss the importance of Jose Guadalupe Posada to
the holiday because they will only receive credit for the assignment if they
participate in our live class discussion. Also, today they will present their
presentations of their knowledge of the importance and history of the
holiday with their groups, so needless to say, the students will be actively
participating in the whole entire lesson.
E – Evaluate and Revise – If my objectives are not met for this lesson, I will
revise the lesson however needed in order to accomplish the objectives
listed above. This lesson is very important to the unit and if it is not
accomplished then the rest of the unit may be a little blurry. I will revise my
lesson plan as many times as needed in order to make this lesson the best it
can be. I will assess my students’ knowledge through class discussions,
group presentations, and interactive videos. I will also evaluate all of the
media and materials used in this lesson according to my students’ feedback.
