The document discusses the evaluation of a magazine created by the author to target an indie music audience. The magazine uses iconic indie bands and the name "neon" to appeal to this genre. The front cover aims to look laid back and informal like the indie scene through its arrangement and attitude. It also uses bright colors to target a youthful audience. The contents page continues the color scheme and features indie-oriented images and a focus on social media to engage adolescents. The double-page spread also matches this scheme and features a local indie band guitarist to represent the gig atmosphere.
3. I ensured that my magazine attracted the
audience by embracing aspects of the indie
genre. I used iconic indie bands such as
Arctic Monkeys, Catfish and the Bottlemen
and the 1975. I chose the name ‘neon’ as I
feel that it captivates the lighting and
atmosphere of indie gigs. It also fits in well
with the colour scheme, and during my
research I discovered that most people
associate the term ‘neon’ with the indie
scene.
4. I feel that my front cover is focused on
targeting my chosen audience. This
could be because the arrangement of
the magazine and the attitude of the
main image appears to be laid back
and relaxed, and ever so slightly
informal. This relates to the indie
scene as this “cool” behaviour is
common amongst conventional indie
artists. My magazine is also aimed at
a more youthful age category, hence
why I used bright colours to represent
vibrancy and life. The colour scheme
is also not gender neutral and so the
magazine can appeal to either gender,
thus increasing my target audience.
5. My contents page is also focused on
targeting my chosen audience. I have
done this by continuing the colour
scheme of white and blue, thus
maintaining the magazine’s vibrancy.
The images are structured so that the
magazine is readable and easy to
follow. The images are also indie
orientated, for example denim jackets
and guitars and featured throughout. I
have also mentioned details regarding
social media platforms, with is vital as
it ties into my younger age category.
The most prominent age that uses social
media is the adolescents - who this
magazine is directed to.
6. In addition to this, my
double page spread
also conforms to the
audience’s
requirements. The
colour scheme is
continued however
darker to represent the
gig atmosphere, and
the main image is of a
guitarist from a local
indie band. The colour
scheme here
particularly fits in with
my magazine title as it
is extremely ‘neon’.
