2. Front cover…
I tried to address my target audience as best as possible
throughout my magazine. I tried to incorporate my selected
audiences style which I achieved by adding a vintage yet urban
style to my magazine. The minimal text on the front cover gives a
feel of simplicity, common of the indie/rock audience. However
the image gives a more urban look as the models facial
expression does not provide typical ‘beautiful’ connotations, but
more of a unique beauty, common of the indie/rock genre. I took
a close up shot with the model looking directly into the lens as to
connect with the audience as if she were looking at them when
they looked at the cover. The text style also incorporates a
vintage look to appeal to my target audience, the lexis choice of
‘off-key’ provides ambiguity as to whether the statement means a
broken or wrong musical note, or having the wrong physical key.
Finally the content upon the cover, mainly the sell lines which are
all artists popular in the music genre to attract the audience.
3. Contents Page…
The contents includes popular bands and stories I believe my
target audience would be interested in, for instance new album
releases and tours. I also used a live gig article to entice my
audience as it is a typical hobby of them to attend gigs. I also
included album covers for which I used young models to attract
the chosen audience of teens to young adults. I encorporated
urban and indie qualities to my images to attract my target
audience.
4. Double Page Spread
I applied my consistent colour palette to keep fluency within the
magazine, I also used the same font style for the title. I directed
my model to look away from the camera and in my positioning
upon the page the impression is given that she is judging her
own life story which is the article. This is a common theme used
in many indie quotes ‘self judgment” and therefore this idea will
appeal to my target audience. The content of the article
discussed the artists life story which will appeal to the creative
nature of my audience. They can wonder at how she made her
way into the industry. This can create the impression that the
general content of the magazine will be similar making the
audience want to purchase the magazine more regularly.
