QUESTION 2:
  How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
SLIDE 1

I have created a music magazine that will appeal
to a particular audience due to the representation
and muse-en-scene. I have studied a variety of
music magazines and the conventions they hold
to obtain the attention from the social group
most attracted to these certain magazines. Mise-
               en-scene works on the
costume, model, location, fonts, colours and
props on the front of the magazine and there are
certain stereotypes of these for an indie/rock
music magazine like the one i have created.
Stereotypes of the readership of a indie/rock
music magazine would be those with skinny
ripped jeans wearing dark colours and messy hair
much like the ones demonstrated in the image.
The females also have clothing that is retro or
vintage along with the messy just out of bed look
which fits in with the stereotype of an
"indie". They are thought to often be seen in
quirky locations and are attracted to props such
as guitars, or cigarettes to give a rebellious vibe.
SLIDE 2

On the front cover i have taken in to consideration the main
points of miss-en-scene to attract the social group
represented that of which will be most inclined to read the
magazine i have created. My model follows these conventions
as she is indie looking with messy hair and follows the vintage
style clothing and colouring, her poses are quirky to attract
the social group which follows these stereotypes. The location
has a plain background so that it looks professional and as if
it was in a music studio, furthermore i have used her hands as
props to make it look scruffy and fun as well as real to portray
her as a real singer who is just like a normal person instead of
a fake uptight pop star that my target audience might not be
                             drawn to.
My product represents its target audience as the model is
fun, fresh, young and quirky just as the social group are that
read it. This therefore demonstrates the readership to follow
this kind of style and see her as an inspiration as well as enjoy
her as a musician. The layout and content is something i have
created especially to appeal to the target audience, as it is
something you stereotypically link with the social group and
                          there interests.
SLIDE 3

I have ensured the representation I offer supports dominant ideas about my
social group by including a miss-en-scene that is especially adapted to the
specific group. They support the dominant ideas by conforming to the
stereotype that is to have a particular look carry particular props and be in
certain locations. Not only that i have created sub headings to appeal to my
target audience as these are ideologies that you would expect to want to read
about certain types of things. I have made the colour scheme have three
colours so that it looks like a high end glossy magazine again addressing the
target audience i am out to appeal to. I have also challenged some of the
dominant ideas about my particular social group as the price is £2.10 which
might be unaffordable for particular students interested in buying this
magazine. The other side of my readership would be happy to pay for a
magazine of its significance for this price as it is should have a high reading
level audience interested in value for money.
