1. How does my media
product represent
particular social groups?
Bethan Foster
2. My media product is a magazine focused mainly on the classic rock/heavy metal genre of
music. To make my magazine appealing to these types of people who listen to this music,
I have kept to the conventions of similar magazines. Firstly, my front cover has a dark
background. I thought this would be the most fitting colour for my magazine, as this is the
colour my genre of music is mainly associated with. I used the front cover as the main
attraction for my readers and used bold fonts and articles to draw them in. I wanted to
create a slight nostalgic effect with my magazine, by using the colour gold and
discussing older artists however, I did not want to rule out a younger audience, so I used
a younger person on the cover, to widen my target audience.
!
My two page spread is an article that also focuses on both a younger and older
audience. I included a wide range of older and younger artists in this article. I wanted the
article to appeal to all audiences who want to read about their favourite guitarists.
However, I continued using the gold colours as I did on my front cover.
!
I did not want to make my price too high for my readers as I knew that there would be
young people reading my magazine, and I did not want to make it unaffordable. I have
looked at similar magazine prices and they are also in range of my price. This adds
realism to my magazine and allows all readers to buy it.
!
I believe many different social groups are represented in my magazine because of the
wide spectrum of articles, conventions and artists included.
