1. Openly Credits: Girls Just Want To Have Fun– Cyndi Lauper This is an old and feminist song but
I interpreted it in the way that I'm not the only one who wants to have fun sometimes. It could be
possible that I have a totally different meaning at the real one. But, when I listen the song makes me
interpreted that parents occasionally could not understand their kids, despite they were young one
time in life. Sometimes when I came home after school, my parents judge without knowing how
hard and difficult could be a day at school. It is hard to be at school when sometimes I could not
understand the assignment because of the language. The english is not my first language and I only
have three years in this country trying my best to learn it. Occasionally my parents think is it easy to
be studying and having good grade but is not, and after a hard day at school the only thing you want
to do is to rest or have fun. This is what the singer is trying to say "When the working day is done,
girls– they want to have fun." 2. Waking Up: Vivir Mi Vida– Marc Anthony I like to hear Vivir Mi

On my perspective, this song is about an old man who depend from an old woman, and this woman
instead of taking care of him she prefers to take a rest. I feel connected with Avicii's song because
when I hear it, I feel that nobody should depend on someone. In the song until the woman leaves
him, he noticed that he can lives without her and be someone. Another reason I feel connected with
this song because my cousin from Mexico was the one who showed me the song. We are so closed,
therefore, I feel that I like the song because she like it. When I drive in my car and I listen this song,
I imagine like I'm at Mexico and that I'm going to see her. Avicii's song is a way in which a can feel

Gary Webb's Death Of The CIA: A Conspiracy?
This paper will discuss how the CIA and/or the American government played a role in the death of
investigative journalist, Gary Webb. Whether it is a conspiracy or not many question how the
investigative journalist died and why his death was ruled as a suicide. Gary Webb was most known
for tracking down corruption and exposing it to millions of Americans. He wrote stories about
corruption from county, state, and federal levels, for more than thirty four years. He is most known
for writing an article titled "Dark Alliance", which "linked the CIA to the crack cocaine epidemic in
Los Angeles during the Iran–Contra scandal. He found that drug dealers were smuggling cocaine
into the United States and the CIA was using the money to arm Nicaraguan rebels." (Webb, G. 1998)
Webb is also known for writing his last article, written for the Sacramento News titled "The Killing
Game". The article exposes "the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Webb's article, "the Army and civilian directors of a Navy think tank at the Naval
Postgraduate School in Monterey joined together in 1999 to develop "America's Army," an online
computer game used to attract computer gamers into the military. According to Webb's article, the
Army had been collecting player information in a vast relational database system called
"Andromeda" that recruiters were able to use to look up a player's statistics if one of them showed
up in a recruiting office." (Paterno, S. 2014) "Suppose you played extremely well, and you stayed in
the game an extremely long time", military economist Col. Casey Wardynski told Webb. "You might

The Million Dollar Arm: Rinku Singh And Dinesh Patel
Brown 1 Daniel Brown Prof. Facci SOC 1113–011 24 September 2014 The Million Dollar Arm
Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel were a couple of East Indian teenagers, who were training to be
Olympian javelin throwers. They had never heard of American baseball or any type of baseball for
that matter. They both came from poor families and Rinku had actually left school and gone back to
his small home town to help his father in his business. His father had one rickety truck that needed
to be replaced in a bad way. Then, in 2008, Dinesh and Rinku heard the news that a talent scout was
coming to their country to search for young men that could throw a baseball not only fast but
accurately. The potential prize was one million dollars and an opportunity ... Show more content on

People don't realize that culture and ethnicity are usually first in a human being, before their talents
or dreams. How a person is raised and the things they experience form what they become.
(Facci,"Socialization") Being a talented athlete in India, does not necessarily make one a gifted
athlete in another country. But the reality talent search show has continued each year in India since
that first debut in 2008. No one has won the million dollar jack pot yet, but Dinesh has gone back to
India and helps young kids get ready for the contest each year. Of course, Rinku and Dinesh
probably didn't even realize they were being stereotyped as athletes or East Indians. All they knew
was they were whisked off to the great and magical America, where they were met with extreme
culture shock. "Learning about the culture was really hard," says Rinku Singh. "That was the biggest
shock. As an example, walking down the street seeing a bunch of girls and a bunch of guys holding
and kissing each other, which is back home not usually happening. ... For me, it was like a totally
different planet." (IMDb) From their point of view, the Indian pitcher wannabes were just hoping to
help their families in India to rise above the socioeconomic level they were in. Athletic stardom was

Chick Fil A is an American fast food restaurant spread across the United States, Chick Fil A
specializes in their famous chicken sandwiches, Chick Fil A does not serve any type of red meat at
their restaurants, just chicken. Chick–fil–A has the highest same–store sales and is the largest quick–

restaurants, it's actually the opposite. Chick Fil A is a religious company, it became popular very

Case Study: Chick-Fil-A
1. What went wrong in terms of cultural awareness? This case study deals with Chick–fil–A, a
family owned company. The purpose of the business is to "glorify God by being a faithful steward
of all that is entrusted" (Chick–fil–A (b), nd) to them. The firm runs its business following Biblical
principles and a kind of "Christian model". So for example, the company's restaurants are closed on
Sunday (Chick–fil–A (a), nd). In 2012, the CEO Dan Cathy obviously affirmed his opposition to gay
marriages in saying: "We are very much supportive of the family – the biblical definition of the
family unit" and "We are a family–owned business, a family–led business, and we are married to our
first wives. We give God thanks for that" (Gilgoff, 2012). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Even if the company follows religious rules, and admits to follow them, it has to stay neutral on
sensitive questions. For example, some time ago, the founder of the company, Truett Cathy said that
"you don't have to be a Christian to work at Chick–fil–A [...] we ask you to base your business on
Biblical principles because they work", (The Economist, 2012). There is no problem with this type
of declaration because it stays neutral even if the founder admits that she follows some religious
rules, she did not neglect or offense anyone, also because she provides a clear explanation of the
reason behind this policy. And her son should have act in the same way, in staying out of this debate
because the business in itself does not have any implication with it, it is only a personal

What Is Outstanding Customer Service, Friendly Team Members?
Outstanding customer service, friendly team members, superb quality, investment in people, and
community development are just a few things that come to mind when you bring up Chick–Fil–A.
As we all know from our personal escapades, you can't bring up those same qualities when talking
about many businesses, especially if the discussion is centered around prowess in the fast food
industry. When judging off the aforementioned qualities, there really is no additional fast–food
company that can compete with the Chick–fil–a experience. This is due to the very intentional
servant style leadership that is portrayed and enforced by the company 's leader and founder, S.
Truett Cathy. Everyone who visits a Chick–fil–A is usually amazed by the ... Show more content on

Even after becoming a Billionaire, he continued to teach his Sunday School class for nearly 50
years. Similar to the Green family and founders of Hobby Lobby, the Cathy family structured their
family business upon morals that included humility and integrity, and they selflessly shared their
blessings with extreme generosity. The Cathy family has upheld their Christian conviction by ot
working on Sundays, so that they and their workers may practice their faith. In a society where
monetary gain trumps all, and determines most business decisions, this act alone is a huge example
of integrity and abiding by conviction even if it means personal sacrifice (Rick Warren, 2014).
When first questioned about my worldview I questioned myself, "What exactly does that mean?" I
knew the technical definition based on the context, yet, I couldn 't provide a strong personal
definition of the word, "worldview". Maybe this was due to the current turmoil that the world i
cohabited was in. Although I considered myself to be saved, I really had no idea what it truly meant
to be a child of the King. Since i first began to ponder upon what my worldview was, and what it
meant to me, the Lord has blessed me with a better understanding. I show gratification to this
experience, because the more that I as an individual reflect on my learnings; I grow more and more

Dark Alliance By Gary Webb
Dark Alliance GARY Webb book review
In the book Dark Alliance by Gary Webb, is about the conspiracy of how the CIA had monitored the
selling of crack cocaine in America to help fund the Nicaraguan contras secretly. And also during
this process the Nicaraguan drugs were being sold to inner cities to create a drug known as crack
that harmed the black population drastically.
First of all Gary Webb had made a newspaper over this topic Gary was once a news paper reporter
and when he released the paper version of dark alliance it shocked America many believing it was
real many believing there was not enough evidence however it has stood till today as being an
accurate interpretation of corruption that indeed happened in present day America.
The book tells us the story of how this all went down, basically there was a Latin American army
that was obtaining profits from the illegal drugs that were being sold to the inner city gang groups
known as the Crips and bloods. and while all this was happening the CIA was well aware and in fact
they were supposedly running the whole operation. Know that the drugs ... Show more content on

his story. After this incident Webb was demoted for telling the truth so quit soon after.
Thane eventually many of the suspensions came to light when the inspector general of the CIA had
confessed that the CIA was involved in the drug trafficking between the contras and the united states
and also stated that the operation was under wraps for 13 years there was no documentation of the
events. However the American government just pretended as if nothing was ever going

Essay on Should High School Students Join the Military?
Less than one percent of all Americans are enlisted in the military. An even smaller percentage of
high school students are enlisted in the military. Students are thought to be incompetent, and not
mature enough to decide on enlisting in the military. However, students should be allowed to join
the military. The military offers many benefits students can use to help their future. The protection
of our country is not overlooked for recruits; they are awarded many personal benefits as well.
Tuition assistance, job training, and many benefits that help prepare recruits for occupations while
enlisted. Not only are students getting great benefits, but they are also in a small group of

The military even pays for children of veterans and active duty soldiers. Through the military an

Education is not the only benefit that comes from service in the military. When many people first

Each MOS is specific and is usually related to the field an individual is interested in. He is sent to

Preschool Class Reflection
For this task, I watched my mom's preschool class and the three kids which she keeps an eye on
ends of the week. The majority of the children that are in the preschool class were three years of age,
however, there was one five years old. The children I helped keep an eye on two twin three–year–
old young ladies, and one five years old.
When I initially touched base at the preschool, the children appeared to be extremely timid towards
me and they didn't appear as though they were exceptionally agreeable. I was an outsider to them,
and I would need to figure that the greater part of the youngsters was encountering a tiny bit of more
unusual uneasiness. I conversed with my mom about how the kids responded toward the start of the

Causes Of The Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance was an important "national movement with connections to international
developments in art and culture" in the African American culture (Wintz). The movement also
known as the "Jazz Age", started on different dates depending on the viewer's interpretation of the
Harlem Renaissance. For instance, if your interpretation of the Harlem Renaissance is literature,
then it began in the year 1924. However, most people associate the year 1920 with the creation of
the Harlem Renaissance. The Great Migration was one major start to the Harlem Renaissance due to
the movement of African Americans from the South to Harlem. The Great Migration was caused by
racial discrimination against African Americans as well as slavery. There were racial groups such as
the KKK (Ku Klux Klan) that used violence against African Americans to prove a point. Not only
were the KKK the cause of the Great Migration but as well as the wanting of improvement in
lifestyle. Harlem provided the African Americans the opportunity to receive a better paying job to
support their families as well as superior education. As we all know, African Americans did not have
an easy life in the South as a result of slavery and segregation. As a result, many African Americans
saw Harlem in New York as an opportunity to improve their family's lifestyles along with their own.
This led to the development of African American culture, such as jazz music, art and literature. For
instance, Chick Webb reflects the ideas, values and contributions of the Harlem Renaissance through
his accomplishments and musical influence. William Henry Webb was a famous swing–era jazz
drummer and bandleader, however; he did face many challenges to accomplish his goal. William
Henry Webb was born in Baltimore, Maryland with spinal tuberculosis. Spinal tuberculosis affects
the spinal vertebrates, which causes the individual to have a lump in their back and prevent them
from growing like a normal human being. As a result, William Henry Webb was given the nickname
Chick Webb. In addition, his date of birth is unclear due to the lack of documentation during his
birth. However, some believe he was born in the year 1902 while others believe it was 1909. Due to

Taking a Look at Chick-Fill-A
Which came first: the chicken sandwich or the egg sandwich? The world may never know.
However, the world does know the chicken sandwich easily trumps an embryonic hoagie. The hard
working Samuel Truett Cathy rose from the ashes of the Great Depression and established his own
ideas of modern chicken consumption. In 1946, Cathy constructed a small restaurant, the Dwarf
Grill, which was named after how miniscule the space was. Four tables and ten stools later, Cathy
desired an expansion and to revolutionize the world of accelerated dining. He yearned for a poultry
meal that was as elegant as a beef filet (hence the name Chick "Fillet", however, neither time
consuming to craft, nor expensive to purchase (Starrs). The owners of Goode Brothers Poultry, a
business in Atlanta, Jim and Hall Goode, were approached by an airline to design a "boneless,
skinless chicken breast that would fit in the plastic trays they used to serve meals on planes." After
accomplishing such an innovating tax, the Goode's had remaining pieces of chicken; that is where
Samuel Truett Cathy enters in this poultry fairytale. Cathy's Dwarf Grill neither excelled nor failed,
though, it enabled Cathy to further his ambition, essentially a springboard to success. However, the
business itself lacked potential to grow. The Goode's approached Cathy to develop some sort of
innovative method with the left–over chicken. Having previously toyed with idea of chicken
already, Cathy undoubtedly took the challenge. The

My Life Of The Dixie Chicks
On August 17, 2016, as I sat in row GG seat 4, I realized that my childhood had come to a close.
Just seven days shy of starting a new chapter in my life, college, I was standing in Bridgestone
Arena in the presence of the Dixie Chicks. Since I was a little girl, I have been listening to their
music through out every part of my life. I can remember as a three year old, blonde headed little girl,
my daddy would put one of their CDs in the radio and dance around the living room with me
standing on his feet. On Sunday afternoons, when I was around the age of six, my Mi–mi, Uncle
David, and I would pile into their jeep and go for a ride down some back roads with their music
playing in the background. Or as a thirteen year old girl, knowing every single word to "Travelin '
Solider." Now as an eighteen year old, as I listened to the song being played, I thought to myself,
"This is it. I am about to enter a brand new chapter in my life."
Rewind to six months earlier, it was Valentine 's Day and my parents were getting ready to give my
sister and I our gifts. We were handed a small, narrow wrapped box that contained tickets to the
DCX MMXVI World Tour. My parents had bought tickets for them, my sister, and I. This tour was

"Chick–Fil–A has experienced more than 10% sales increase almost every year since launching in
1946 and their franchisees retention rate has been 96% for nearly 50 years." (Kurse, 2015).
We can all agree Chick–Fil–A has accomplished tremendous success by any commercial standard.
Truett Cathy opened his first restaurant in 1946 named Dwarf Grill in Hapeville, Georgia. In the

Getting to Know Hiromi Uehara
She often wears a strange, (but seems to be her personal characteristic), hairstyle to get on stage. She
always has a cheeky smile, swinging her body freely while her fingers dance on the piano. She is
intelligent and mischievous with endless musical whimsy. She is the pianist, the composer that
brings all the surprise to us, along with her fiery rhythm and creative keyboard sound. Her name is
Hiromi Uehara.
She is born in Shizuoka, Japan, started learning by the age of six. In addition to classical techniques,
she also started to learn jazz techniques and participated in improvisation trainings. At the age of 12,
she started to perform on stage and by the age of 17, she met Chick Corea and got invited to play
with him in the next day concert.
In Hiromi's career, Hiromi has a lot of inspiration from all jazz musicians, such as Chick Corea and
Oscar Peterson. Here is a recording of Hiromi Uehara and Chick Corea duet on Hiromi's piece " Old
Castle, by the river, in the middle of a forest" (2007). In comparison of these two great jazz
musicians, Corea insists on his lyrical jazz style while Hiromi is punchier and more rhythmic.
(Chick & Hiromi, 2008). This combination allows Hiromi and Corea to present their strengths,
surprise audiences with their delicate musical ideas.
Here is another recording of Hiromi performing " I got rhythm"; she dedicated this work to Oscar
Peterson. Just like her words in an interview with Anil Prasad in 2008 " I really have to respect the

The Gi Bill And How It Effected Student Equity
Introduction Prior to this assignment student veterans were a portion of the student population that I
had no prior experience or knowledge of interacting with outside the scope of my history of higher
education course reviewing the components of the GI Bill. The assignment allowed me to get an in
depth historical analysis of the GI Bill and how it effected student equity in higher education from
its establishment. I have come to understand the services students veterans possess but as well as
some of the limitations they face being advocates for themselves in order to receive their benefits. In
revolving around the topic of student equity, my team's research found a wealth of knowledge from
higher education scholars who see the need of the GI Bill in further providing student equity to
student veterans. Scholars saw the important qualities that the GI Bill possess and advocated for
further services in assisting student veterans and their families in not only understanding their
medical benefits but also create a supportive community on campus. The overall goal of researching
the GI Bill and by doing so includes student veterans is that the bill provides equitable support to
returning students that have served, support for dependents of those who serve(d), and the growing
student population student veterans are becoming through the new GI Bill. Historical Analysis The
Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944 or the original "GI Bill" provided: 1. educational funding

Chick Fil An American Food Restaurant Franchise Essay
Chick–Fil–A is an American food restaurant franchise having its head office in Georgia, USA. The
company was established in 1946 and has gradually entrenched itself in the American food industry
as a cultural icon in the Southern United States for its specialty in preparation of chicken
sandwiches. Chick–Fil–A prides itself for the establishment of over1690 branches located within the
United States alone as well as its economic contribution to the larger part of Western America and
California. It realized sales of around $4.6 billion in 2012, which reflected a 14 percent increase
over the overall performance experienced in the previous year by the chain while the same–store
sales performance increased by 8 percent. In Houston, Texas, the greatest performer realized a 7.2
million total gross sales in 2012. Chick–Fil–A uses a significantly distinct model, notable in the
retention of the ownership of each restaurant since its acquisition. Chick–Fil–A selects the most
suitable restaurant location, undertakes its construction, then takes over its ownership. Chick–Fil–A
requires a payment of only a $5,000 as capital to become an owner of their branch while its rival
franchises pay almost $2 million. The company receives over 15, 000 submissions annually from
interested franchise operators for the available 70 slots. Chick–Fil–A receives a bigger allocation of
income in comparison to other chains amounting to $190,000 per year. Chick–Fil–A's solid mission

Review Of ' Eat Mor Chikin '
A Chik–Fil–A Located In Vail
"Eat Mor Chikin!" Shouts this fast food chain's mascot. The Chik–Fil–A mascot may not be well
educated, misspelling common known words, but he knows how to get people to eat and enjoy this
new american classic. The Chik–Fil–A restaurants are one of the most popular eating establishments
in America. People of all ages enjoy their food but people in Vail, Arizona are feeling left out of this
delicious picture.
History of Chik–Fil–A In 1951, S. Truett Cathy made an outstanding discovery. After fifteen years
of being in the greasy fast food business he found a pressure–fryer that could cook a delicious
chicken sandwich in the same time as it would a hamburger patty (Chik–Fil–A.com). Cathy loved it.
He decided to birth 'The Chik–Fil–A.' Because of the noteable all chicken menu and new way of
making chicken sandwiches, Cathy came up with the slogan, "We did not invent the chicken, just
the chicken sandwich." Believe it or not Chik–Fil–A is half a century old. The first ever to open was
at Greenbriar Mall in Atlanta. Throughout the seventies and eighties this franchise expanded their
business by opening new restaurants in mall food courts. Finally in 1986 Chik–Fil–A opened their
very first ever freestanding restaurant. Now as of 2015 there at approximately 1,900 locations in

Danilo Blandon's Use Of Crack Cocaine In The United States
In 1996, Gary Webb claimed that black men were incarcerated for charges dealing with selling
cocaine because of the CIA. "Thousands of young black men are serving long prison sentences for
selling cocaine – a drug that was virtually unobtainable in black neighborhoods before members of
the CIA's army started bringing it into South–Central in the 1980s at bargain–basement prices." This
claim outraged members of the black community because it reaffirmed suspicions of the government
intentionally tainting their community with crack. "... about 2,000 people converged on the
Crenshaw district [LA] Saturday to demand that U.S. government officials be held accountable for
alleged complicity in the city's deadly scourge of crack cocaine."

Questions Fenster asked fueled the material Webb used in his articles to support his claims. If he did
give Fenster this idea, and Fenster didn't come to the conclusion himself it makes the material used
in the article illegitimate.
The Washington Post continues on to say, "... No evidence of specific transactions or of explicit
financial links has emerged to back up Blandon's and Menses's claims of sending money to the
rebels."
If there isn't evidence of financial links to back up Blandon's and Menses's claims, then Blandon
might have not told the truth to the grand jury in 1994. It is another possibility that Blandon and
Menses kept the profits made from cocaine trafficking and spent it on themselves.

Chick Fil A Successful Company
Public relation employees have the duty to deal with potential issues or scandals that have already
occurred. Chick–fil–A is a successful company who got in a bit of trouble when President Dan
Cathy released a statement regarding the definition of marriage. This statement angered many
people and caused attention to the media. There were protests, opinions, and much more that Chick–
fil–A had to deal with. They released the statement for all their publics to view. Chick–fil–A did not
do too much during this scandal other than stay true to their values and release statements
supporting the nuclear family and their Christian values. Chick–fil–A lost customers, but at the end
of the day their profits grew from previous years of business. Chick–fil–A is fast–food, chain
restaurant unlike other fast–food franchises. Chick–fil–A has been a family–owned, private–held
business since it opened in the early 1960s ("Facts and History..."). Also, another unique part of
Chick–fil–A is that they are closed on Sundays so employees can have a day of rest or "worship if
they choose to do so ("Closed on Sundays...")." It all started with a man named Truett Cathy when
he opened the Dwarf Grill in Hapeville, Georgia. Dwarf Grill was Cathy's original restaurant and is
still open today with the addition of Chick–fil–A products on the menu ("Facts and History...").

Despite this, Chick–fil–A has posted positive increases in revenue all 40 years the company has
been in business, many of which have been double–digit increases. These increases may seem
extraordinary, but Chick–fil–A has used a strategy that ensures their success. Another factor which
has the ability to have a major impact on profitability is the increasing price of chicken. With the
increasing popularity of ethanol based fuels – made primarily of corn – it is becoming more costly
to feed and raise chickens, whose main source of food is corn. This new demand for corn has
increased the price, which is in turn passed onto the next buyer. It is necessary for Chick–fil–A to
address this issue and formulate a plan of action to try to combat these rising costs. Technology
Chick–fil–A does not have any distinct or visible technological advantages that can distinguish the
company from its competitors. The company does, however, have processes in place which gives
Chick–fil–A an advantage in both profitability and customer service. First, Chick–fil–A's smaller
menu offering, compared to its competitors, contributes to the company's large profit margins.
Secondly, Chick–fil–A has stringent guidelines and goals concerning service time for customers;
customers should wait no more than one minute for service. The combination of these two

solution to their situation. Tricare, the name of the military health care, is provided to every service

Service Members’ Transition to Community College Essay
Introduction
As demographics of college and university students in the United States evolve, so too must the
policies and procedures used to assist students in their pursuit of post–secondary education
(Radford, 2009). By the passage of educational acts such as the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of
1944 (Public Law 78–346), the 1985 Montgomery GI Bill (Public Law 110–252), and now the Post
9/11 GI Bill (Public Law 100–48), institutions of higher education have committed themselves not
only to educate the recently discharged and deactivated, but to address a student population with
unique needs. Student development practitioners must adapt strategies to assist the transition

Problem Statement
Under the original GI Bill (Public Law 78–346), about 4.9 million veterans enrolled in vocational
and technical training (Field, Helbel, & Smallwood, 2008). According to the Department of Veterans
Affairs, Bradley (2009) surmised that an estimated 112,000 claims for benefits under the new GI
Bill have already been processed, and an estimated 250,000 veterans are expected to receive
education benefits in the next two years. Perhaps the greatest need of many returning veterans is
assistance in addressing psychological and social problems associated with post–traumatic stress
disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury, or multiple physical injuries (Ford, Northrup, & Wiley,
2009). While, historically, community colleges are charged with serving those outside traditional
student populations, it is imperative that institutions of higher education recognize and plan for
military and veteran student needs.
Many combat veterans return with mental health needs that can complicate educational
achievement. In addition to specific disorders such as traumatic brain injury and post–traumatic
stress disorder, combat veterans experience psychosocial disruption as they rapidly transition from
the role from warrior to that of student. (Sachs, 2008, p.1)

Crack: The Decade of American Destruction Essay
In the 1980s, the United States has witnessed a scar that swept many Americans off their feet. The
scar consisted of the effect that crack had on Americans in the 1980s. Many Americans believe that
drugs are the main thing that is causing many social problems in society. For instance, in 2004, New
York Senator Charles Schumer stated, "Twenty years ago, crack was headed east across the United
States like a Mack truck out of control, and it slammed New York hard because we just didn't see the
warning signs" (n.p). Therefore, crack was a serious problem during the 1980s and it was also
destroying society. Due to the negative impact of crack, America began to create homeless addicts,

This concept appears to be strange to me because a public drug dealer never managed to end up in
prison; therefore, Meneses must have had an alliance with the police force. "Records show the no–
bail warrant was never entered into the national law enforcement database called NCIC, which
police use to track down fugitives" (Webb n.p). Therefore, my conclusion might be correct because
the police was unable to detain a man who was making his business public. In the 1990s, Meneses
got arrested in Nicaragua; however, during his earlier success he remained at peace in the United
States. Furthermore, "his judge expressed astonishment that the infamous smuggler went
unmolested by American drug agents during his years in the United States" (Webb n.p). Oscar
Danilo Blandon was another infamous crack dealer along with Ross and Meneses. "Blandon has
also implied that his cocaine sales were, for a time, CIA–approved" (Webb n.p) Therefore, Blandon
was also receiving help from officials from the United States in a way that was similar to Meneses.
According to Gary Webb, Blandon testified, "And the people that was in charge, it was the CIA, so
they didn't want to raise any drug money because they had the money that they wanted" (Webb n.p).
The CIA was using the cocaine dealers for their own benefits in order to save up money for their

Dark Alliance by Gary Stephen Webb
In 1996, Gary Stephen Webb was best known for his three part article series, Dark Alliance. Webb
exposed The Central Intelligence Agency's (C.I.A.) drug trafficking operations. These articles were
first written for the San Jose Mercury News before later being published into a book. Webb
discovered a drug operation between a California drug ring, the C.I.A., and the Nicaraguan Contras.
Evidence showed that the C.I.A. had direct contact with smugglers, knowing that the profits being
made from the drugs were used to purchase equipment for the Nicaraguan Contras. The San
Francisco Bay Area drug ring had tons of cocaine, which they turned into crack cocaine. Crack
cocaine was a cheaper version of the drug that was highly addictive. This more affordable drug was
distributed to the Los Angeles street gangs by drug dealer, Ricky Donnell Ross better known by his
nickname, "Freeway Ricky." They then sold the product to people in the black communities. By
1994, Freeway Ricky was known as the master marketer mainly responsible for flooding the streets
of L.A. with cocaine. Today, Los Angeles is known as the "crack" capital of the world.
Juan Norwin Meneses Cantarero was the head boss over the Bay Area drug ring. Meneses owned a
home, bars, restaurants, a car lot, and factories. Though he was never imprisoned, the federal
government knew about his drug dealings. In 1996, Meneses was arrested by Nicaraguan police on

Malcolm Klein, director of the Social Research Institute at the University of Southern California

more than 250 tons of the drug were distributed every year, according to official and academic

the argument that migrants trying to cross the border and dying on their way over is a humanitarian
crisis. He mentions that the people who died are given case numbers and not a name and that this is
unfair. Fernandez's argument is good, but it is also a little bit indifferent. His argument is strong
because he offers a lot of evidence that is very descriptive and credible and some of his evidence is
something that the reader can relate to. Having accurate evidence from a credible source is very
important to an author's argument because it gives the argument support and reliability. If that

evidence. For example, he shares stories about different "cases numbers" and the belongings that
these people had with them. These stories are reliable because they come from the Brooks County
Sherriff's Department in Texas. The Sherriff's Department is a reliable, legitimate source. We know
that the stories are true because Fernandez gives real case numbers that came from this Sherriff's

The Military And Institutions Of Higher Education
Background
Throughout most of the wartime eras of the United States, there has been a symbiotic relation
between the military and institutions of higher education. This relationship was precipitated by the
Morrill Act of 1862, which provided grants of public land to states to establish institutions of higher
learning to be operated in conjunction with state and federal governments (Renne, 1960). One
particular focus of the land grant institutions was to focus on the teaching of military tactics.
Considered an "afterthought stipulation" to the Morrill Act Legislation (Abrams, 1989, p. 16), this
stipulation that required land grant institutions to offer military training as part of the curriculum
would become pivotal in building the foundation for relationship between the military and institutes
of higher education.
The military training provision of the Morrill Act was perhaps undergirded by the nation's
commitment to the notion of the citizen–soldier versus the need for a standing army. Congressman
Justin Morrill, the author of the legislation, thought it best to give young men the experience of
being soldiers in colleges run by civilians versus the United States possibly creating a large
professional military establishment (Abrams, 1989). In addition to citizen–soldiers, the Morrill Act
was aimed at educating the children of the working class and farmers (Renne, 1960).
World War II would begin to solidify the connection between universities and the military as it was

ROTC programs are also helpful in college tuition. There are scholarships and courses that help an
individual prepare to be an officer in the military. Typically the programs are their own courses and
take at least four years to complete. After the courses are completed, the individual goes straight to
the military for the branch, as an officer, he enrolled in. He also are given many different
allowances. The allowances given are usually a housing allowance and a food allowance, depending
on the region the individual is attending college. He also gets his tuition paid for, as well as money
for books and monthly spending allowance (Yuengling). Worrying about college can be avoided
from joining the military. The military even pays for children of veterans and active duty soldiers.
Through the military an individual may be relieved, because of all the educational benefits provided

  • 1. Textual Analysis Songs 1. Openly Credits: Girls Just Want To Have Fun– Cyndi Lauper This is an old and feminist song but I interpreted it in the way that I'm not the only one who wants to have fun sometimes. It could be possible that I have a totally different meaning at the real one. But, when I listen the song makes me interpreted that parents occasionally could not understand their kids, despite they were young one time in life. Sometimes when I came home after school, my parents judge without knowing how hard and difficult could be a day at school. It is hard to be at school when sometimes I could not understand the assignment because of the language. The english is not my first language and I only have three years in this country trying my best to learn it. Occasionally my parents think is it easy to be studying and having good grade but is not, and after a hard day at school the only thing you want to do is to rest or have fun. This is what the singer is trying to say "When the working day is done, girls– they want to have fun." 2. On my perspective, this song is about an old man who depend from an old woman, and this woman instead of taking care of him she prefers to take a rest. I feel connected with Avicii's song because when I hear it, I feel that nobody should depend on someone. In the song until the woman leaves him, he noticed that he can lives without her and be someone. Another reason I feel connected with this song because my cousin from Mexico was the one who showed me the song. We are so closed, therefore, I feel that I like the song because she like it. When I drive in my car and I listen this song, I imagine like I'm at Mexico and that I'm going to see her. Avicii's song is a way in which a can feel near of her, since she leave really far from ... Whether it is a conspiracy or not many question how the investigative journalist died and why his death was ruled as a suicide. Gary Webb was most known for tracking down corruption and exposing it to millions of Americans. He wrote stories about corruption from county, state, and federal levels, for more than thirty four years. He is most known for writing an article titled "Dark Alliance", which "linked the CIA to the crack cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles during the Iran–Contra scandal. He found that drug dealers were smuggling cocaine into the United States and the CIA was using the money to arm Nicaraguan rebels." (Webb, G. 1998) Webb is also known for writing his last article, written for the Sacramento News titled "The Killing Game". The article exposes "the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Webb's article, "the Army and civilian directors of a Navy think tank at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey joined together in 1999 to develop "America's Army," an online computer game used to attract computer gamers into the military. According to Webb's article, the Army had been collecting player information in a vast relational database system called "Andromeda" that recruiters were able to use to look up a player's statistics if one of them showed up in a recruiting office." (Paterno, S. 2014) "Suppose you played extremely well, and you stayed in the game an extremely long time", military economist Col. Casey Wardynski told Webb. "You might just get an e–mail seeing if you'd like any additional information on the Army." (Webb, G. 2004) In October of 2004, Gary Webb was found dead in his apartment. • 5. The Million Dollar Arm: Rinku Singh And Dinesh Patel Brown 1 Daniel Brown Prof. Facci SOC 1113–011 24 September 2014 The Million Dollar Arm Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel were a couple of East Indian teenagers, who were training to be Olympian javelin throwers. They had never heard of American baseball or any type of baseball for that matter. They both came from poor families and Rinku had actually left school and gone back to his small home town to help his father in his business. His father had one rickety truck that needed to be replaced in a bad way. Then, in 2008, Dinesh and Rinku heard the news that a talent scout was coming to their country to search for young men that could throw a baseball not only fast but accurately. The potential prize was one million dollars and an opportunity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People don't realize that culture and ethnicity are usually first in a human being, before their talents or dreams. How a person is raised and the things they experience form what they become. (Facci,"Socialization") Being a talented athlete in India, does not necessarily make one a gifted athlete in another country. But the reality talent search show has continued each year in India since that first debut in 2008. No one has won the million dollar jack pot yet, but Dinesh has gone back to India and helps young kids get ready for the contest each year. Of course, Rinku and Dinesh probably didn't even realize they were being stereotyped as athletes or East Indians. All they knew was they were whisked off to the great and magical America, where they were met with extreme culture shock. "Learning about the culture was really hard," says Rinku Singh. "That was the biggest shock. As an example, walking down the street seeing a bunch of girls and a bunch of guys holding and kissing each other, which is back home not usually happening. ... For me, it was like a totally different planet." Chick Fil A Research Paper Chick Fil A is an American fast food restaurant spread across the United States, Chick Fil A specializes in their famous chicken sandwiches, Chick Fil A does not serve any type of red meat at their restaurants, just chicken. Chick–fil–A has the highest same–store sales and is the largest quick– service chicken restaurant chain in the United States However, Chick Fil A isn't like most fast food restaurants, it's actually the opposite. Chick Fil A is a religious company, it became popular very fast, and it is known for it's great hospitality. Chick Fil A is a religious company. • 9. Case Study: Chick-Fil-A 1. What went wrong in terms of cultural awareness? This case study deals with Chick–fil–A, a family owned company. The purpose of the business is to "glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted" (Chick–fil–A (b), nd) to them. The firm runs its business following Biblical principles and a kind of "Christian model". So for example, the company's restaurants are closed on Sunday (Chick–fil–A (a), nd). In 2012, the CEO Dan Cathy obviously affirmed his opposition to gay marriages in saying: "We are very much supportive of the family – the biblical definition of the family unit" and "We are a family–owned business, a family–led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that" (Gilgoff, 2012). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even if the company follows religious rules, and admits to follow them, it has to stay neutral on sensitive questions. For example, some time ago, the founder of the company, Truett Cathy said that "you don't have to be a Christian to work at Chick–fil–A [...] we ask you to base your business on Biblical principles because they work", (The Economist, 2012). There is no problem with this type of declaration because it stays neutral even if the founder admits that she follows some religious rules, she did not neglect or offense anyone, also because she provides a clear explanation of the reason behind this policy. And her son should have act in the same way, in staying out of this debate because the business in itself does not have any implication with it, it is only a personal ... Outstanding customer service, friendly team members, superb quality, investment in people, and community development are just a few things that come to mind when you bring up Chick–Fil–A. As we all know from our personal escapades, you can't bring up those same qualities when talking about many businesses, especially if the discussion is centered around prowess in the fast food industry. When judging off the aforementioned qualities, there really is no additional fast–food company that can compete with the Chick–fil–a experience. This is due to the very intentional servant style leadership that is portrayed and enforced by the company 's leader and founder, S. Truett Cathy. Even after becoming a Billionaire, he continued to teach his Sunday School class for nearly 50 years. Similar to the Green family and founders of Hobby Lobby, the Cathy family structured their family business upon morals that included humility and integrity, and they selflessly shared their blessings with extreme generosity. The Cathy family has upheld their Christian conviction by ot working on Sundays, so that they and their workers may practice their faith. In a society where monetary gain trumps all, and determines most business decisions, this act alone is a huge example of integrity and abiding by conviction even if it means personal sacrifice (Rick Warren, 2014). When first questioned about my worldview I questioned myself, "What exactly does that mean?" I knew the technical definition based on the context, yet, I couldn 't provide a strong personal definition of the word, "worldview". Maybe this was due to the current turmoil that the world i cohabited was in. Although I considered myself to be saved, I really had no idea what it truly meant to be a child of the King. Since i first began to ponder upon what my worldview was, and what it meant to me, the Lord has blessed me with a better understanding. • 25. Causes Of The Harlem Renaissance The Harlem Renaissance was an important "national movement with connections to international developments in art and culture" in the African American culture (Wintz). The movement also known as the "Jazz Age", started on different dates depending on the viewer's interpretation of the Harlem Renaissance. For instance, if your interpretation of the Harlem Renaissance is literature, then it began in the year 1924. However, most people associate the year 1920 with the creation of the Harlem Renaissance. The Great Migration was one major start to the Harlem Renaissance due to the movement of African Americans from the South to Harlem. The Great Migration was caused by racial discrimination against African Americans as well as slavery. There were racial groups such as the KKK (Ku Klux Klan) that used violence against African Americans to prove a point. Not only were the KKK the cause of the Great Migration but as well as the wanting of improvement in lifestyle. Harlem provided the African Americans the opportunity to receive a better paying job to support their families as well as superior education. As we all know, African Americans did not have an easy life in the South as a result of slavery and segregation. As a result, many African Americans saw Harlem in New York as an opportunity to improve their family's lifestyles along with their own. This led to the development of African American culture, such as jazz music, art and literature. For instance, Chick Webb reflects the ideas, values and contributions of the Harlem Renaissance through his accomplishments and musical influence. However, the world does know the chicken sandwich easily trumps an embryonic hoagie. The hard working Samuel Truett Cathy rose from the ashes of the Great Depression and established his own ideas of modern chicken consumption. In 1946, Cathy constructed a small restaurant, the Dwarf Grill, which was named after how miniscule the space was. Four tables and ten stools later, Cathy desired an expansion and to revolutionize the world of accelerated dining. He yearned for a poultry meal that was as elegant as a beef filet (hence the name Chick "Fillet", however, neither time consuming to craft, nor expensive to purchase (Starrs). After accomplishing such an innovating tax, the Goode's had remaining pieces of chicken; that is where Samuel Truett Cathy enters in this poultry fairytale. Cathy's Dwarf Grill neither excelled nor failed, though, it enabled Cathy to further his ambition, essentially a springboard to success. However, the business itself lacked potential to grow. Cathy loved it. He decided to birth 'The Chik–Fil–A.' Because of the noteable all chicken menu and new way of making chicken sandwiches, Cathy came up with the slogan, "We did not invent the chicken, just the chicken sandwich." • 53. Danilo Blandon's Use Of Crack Cocaine In The United States In 1996, Gary Webb claimed that black men were incarcerated for charges dealing with selling cocaine because of the CIA. "Thousands of young black men are serving long prison sentences for selling cocaine – a drug that was virtually unobtainable in black neighborhoods before members of the CIA's army started bringing it into South–Central in the 1980s at bargain–basement prices." This claim outraged members of the black community because it reaffirmed suspicions of the government intentionally tainting their community with crack. Questions Fenster asked fueled the material Webb used in his articles to support his claims. If he did give Fenster this idea, and Fenster didn't come to the conclusion himself it makes the material used in the article illegitimate. The Washington Post continues on to say, "... No evidence of specific transactions or of explicit financial links has emerged to back up Blandon's and Menses's claims of sending money to the rebels." If there isn't evidence of financial links to back up Blandon's and Menses's claims, then Blandon might have not told the truth to the grand jury in 1994. It is another possibility that Blandon and Menses kept the profits made from cocaine trafficking and spent it on themselves. Roberto Suro and Walter Pincus, journalists for The Washington Post, have years of experience. Suro has written books on immigration, and is a professor at University of Southern California. • 55. Chick Fil A Successful Company Public relation employees have the duty to deal with potential issues or scandals that have already occurred. Chick–fil–A is a successful company who got in a bit of trouble when President Dan Cathy released a statement regarding the definition of marriage. This statement angered many people and caused attention to the media. There were protests, opinions, and much more that Chick– fil–A had to deal with. They released the statement for all their publics to view. Chick–fil–A did not do too much during this scandal other than stay true to their values and release statements supporting the nuclear family and their Christian values. Chick–fil–A lost customers, but at the end of the day their profits grew from previous years of business. Chick–fil–A is fast–food, chain restaurant unlike other fast–food franchises. Chick–fil–A has been a family–owned, private–held business since it opened in the early 1960s ("Facts and History..."). Also, another unique part of Chick–fil–A is that they are closed on Sundays so employees can have a day of rest or "worship if they choose to do so ("Closed on Sundays...")." It all started with a man named Truett Cathy when he opened the Dwarf Grill in Hapeville, Georgia. Dwarf Grill was Cathy's original restaurant and is still open today with the addition of Chick–fil–A products on the menu ("Facts and History..."). Through intense strategic planning, based upon the vision, mission and corporate values, Chick–fil–A has been able to establish a unique position in a very competitive industry. The corporate purpose of Chick–fil–A, "To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come into contact witch Chick–fil–A", their commitment to family and the community, and their sound business decisions, have made Chick– fil–A one of the most profitable and fastest growing quick–service restaurants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite this, Chick–fil–A has posted positive increases in revenue all 40 years the company has been in business, many of which have been double–digit increases. These increases may seem extraordinary, but Chick–fil–A has used a strategy that ensures their success. Another factor which has the ability to have a major impact on profitability is the increasing price of chicken. With the increasing popularity of ethanol based fuels – made primarily of corn – it is becoming more costly to feed and raise chickens, whose main source of food is corn. This new demand for corn has increased the price, which is in turn passed onto the next buyer. It is necessary for Chick–fil–A to address this issue and formulate a plan of action to try to combat these rising costs. Technology Chick–fil–A does not have any distinct or visible technological advantages that can distinguish the company from its competitors. The company does, however, have processes in place which gives Chick–fil–A an advantage in both profitability and customer service. First, Chick–fil–A's smaller menu offering, compared to its competitors, contributes to the company's large profit margins. Secondly, Chick–fil–A has stringent guidelines and goals concerning service time for customers; customers should wait no more than one minute for service. The combination of these two ... Most of the kids that are in the preschool class were three years old, but there was one five year old. The kids I helped baby–sit were two twin three year old girls, and one five year old. When I first arrived at the preschool, the kids seemed very shy towards me and they did not seem like they were very sociable. I was a stranger to them, and I would have to guess that all of the children were experiencing a little bit of stranger anxiety. I talked to my mother about how the children reacted at the beginning of the year when they did not know her and the parents left them there. She said that the children often would ... While these kids were eating their snacks, I left and put gold candy in their pots, and then waited for their reactions and comments when they came back to see what had happened. I wish I could have recorded their reactions because some of them were hilarious. I noticed that one child jumped around and screamed that ?he was here, he was here,? and another child was looking around the room trying to find the leprechaun. Overall, I found that my animistic thinking project worked well. To conclude my observations on animistic thinking, I found that most of the kids seemed to have beliefs based on what they sensed to be true, rather than on what would be logic or rational. Language development between the three–year–old kids, and the five–year–old kids was amazing. Today the military draft seems obsolete with the rise in volunteers. Over the past half–century, military drafts have controlled the fates of eligible men on and off the battlefield. Thankfully this is not the case today with qualified men and women signing up and risking their lives for their country. With the United States at war in the Middle East, having plenty of volunteers is essential in the effort to win. Perhaps the greatest need of many returning veterans is assistance in addressing psychological and social problems associated with post–traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury, or multiple physical injuries (Ford, Northrup, & Wiley, 2009). While, historically, community colleges are charged with serving those outside traditional student populations, it is imperative that institutions of higher education recognize and plan for military and veteran student needs. In addition to specific disorders such as traumatic brain injury and post–traumatic stress disorder, combat veterans experience psychosocial disruption as they rapidly transition from the role from warrior to that of student. • 65. Crack: The Decade of American Destruction Essay In the 1980s, the United States has witnessed a scar that swept many Americans off their feet. The scar consisted of the effect that crack had on Americans in the 1980s. Many Americans believe that drugs are the main thing that is causing many social problems in society. For instance, in 2004, New York Senator Charles Schumer stated, "Twenty years ago, crack was headed east across the United States like a Mack truck out of control, and it slammed New York hard because we just didn't see the warning signs" (n.p). This concept appears to be strange to me because a public drug dealer never managed to end up in prison; therefore, Meneses must have had an alliance with the police force. "Records show the no– bail warrant was never entered into the national law enforcement database called NCIC, which police use to track down fugitives" (Webb n.p). Therefore, my conclusion might be correct because the police was unable to detain a man who was making his business public. In the 1990s, Meneses got arrested in Nicaragua; however, during his earlier success he remained at peace in the United States. Furthermore, "his judge expressed astonishment that the infamous smuggler went unmolested by American drug agents during his years in the United States" (Webb n.p). Oscar Danilo Blandon was another infamous crack dealer along with Ross and Meneses. "Blandon has also implied that his cocaine sales were, for a time, CIA–approved" (Webb n.p) Therefore, Blandon was also receiving help from officials from the United States in a way that was similar to Meneses. According to Gary Webb, Blandon testified, "And the people that was in charge, it was the CIA, so they didn't want to raise any drug money because they had the money that they wanted" (Webb n.p). • 67. Dark Alliance by Gary Stephen Webb In 1996, Gary Stephen Webb was best known for his three part article series, Dark Alliance. Webb exposed The Central Intelligence Agency's (C.I.A.) drug trafficking operations. These articles were first written for the San Jose Mercury News before later being published into a book. Webb discovered a drug operation between a California drug ring, the C.I.A., and the Nicaraguan Contras. Evidence showed that the C.I.A. had direct contact with smugglers, knowing that the profits being made from the drugs were used to purchase equipment for the Nicaraguan Contras. The San Francisco Bay Area drug ring had tons of cocaine, which they turned into crack cocaine. Crack cocaine was a cheaper version of the drug that was highly addictive. This more affordable drug was distributed to the Los Angeles street gangs by drug dealer, Ricky Donnell Ross better known by his nickname, "Freeway Ricky." They then sold the product to people in the black communities. By 1994, Freeway Ricky was known as the master marketer mainly responsible for flooding the streets of L.A. with cocaine. Today, Los Angeles is known as the "crack" capital of the world. Juan Norwin Meneses Cantarero was the head boss over the Bay Area drug ring. Meneses owned a home, bars, restaurants, a car lot, and factories. Though he was never imprisoned, the federal government knew about his drug dealings. Washington Post claims, "Blandon's own accounts and law enforcement estimates say Blandon handled a total of only about five tons of cocaine during a decade–long career...during the 1980s... more than 250 tons of the drug were distributed every year, according to official and academic estimates." Summary Of 'A Northbound Path' By Manny Fernandezs In Manny Fernandez's article "A Northbound Path, Marked by More and More Bodies" he makes the argument that migrants trying to cross the border and dying on their way over is a humanitarian crisis. He mentions that the people who died are given case numbers and not a name and that this is unfair. Fernandez's argument is good, but it is also a little bit indifferent. His argument is strong because he offers a lot of evidence that is very descriptive and credible and some of his evidence is something that the reader can relate to. These stories are reliable because they come from the Brooks County Sherriff's Department in Texas. The Sherriff's Department is a reliable, legitimate source. We know that the stories are true because Fernandez gives real case numbers that came from this Sherriff's Department. This evidence is extremely effective because it is true stories that the reader can picture in their minds. • 73. The Military And Institutions Of Higher Education Background Throughout most of the wartime eras of the United States, there has been a symbiotic relation between the military and institutions of higher education. This relationship was precipitated by the Morrill Act of 1862, which provided grants of public land to states to establish institutions of higher learning to be operated in conjunction with state and federal governments (Renne, 1960). One particular focus of the land grant institutions was to focus on the teaching of military tactics. Considered an "afterthought stipulation" to the Morrill Act Legislation (Abrams, 1989, p. 16), this stipulation that required land grant institutions to offer military training as part of the curriculum would become pivotal in building the foundation for relationship between the military and institutes of higher education. The military training provision of the Morrill Act was perhaps undergirded by the nation's commitment to the notion of the citizen–soldier versus the need for a standing army. Congressman Justin Morrill, the author of the legislation, thought it best to give young men the experience of being soldiers in colleges run by civilians versus the United States possibly creating a large professional military establishment (Abrams, 1989). In addition to citizen–soldiers, the Morrill Act was aimed at educating the children of the working class and farmers (Renne, 1960).
