Bil Baird Case Study
Bil Baird collection is considered a spectacular attraction at the MacNider Art Museum in Mason City.
In 1975 Baird and his wife Susanna were in Mason City attending Rotary Club as guests. At the end of
the meeting Dick Leet decided to introduce himself and invite the couple to the MacNider Museum.
After Baird and Susanna had completed a long tour that day the question was asked if Baird might be
interested in having an exhibit with his puppets at the museum. The Art of the Puppet: Bil Baird was
opened to the public August 15 September 12 in 1976. Baird arrived a week earlier to the exhibit and
conducted puppetry workshops at the museums Summer Arts Festival. At the end of the second

Summary Of Self Respect By Didion
Weekly Critique 2 Summary of the reading Self Respect by Didion is an essay that compares a lot of
things about self respect to our lives. In the beginning of the Self Respect essay, the author talks about
the situation she experienced when she was nineteen years old which had to do with the failure to be
pledged to a college honor society. She did not have the grades to qualify her to be pledged into the
honor society, which made her come to a realization that we are not handed out things in life rather,
we have to earn them no winning smiles will do over here, no pretty drawn lines of good intentions
(Didion 2). She also realized that we are not judged in this life based on who we are but on what we
have done to earn them and that made her feel a loss of innocence the day I did not make Phi Beth
Kappa nonetheless marked the end of something and innocence may well be the word for it (Didion 2)
hence making her understand that all situations have a consequence. This essay compares people with
no self respect to children sleeping in the bed they made for themselves showing us that children who
did not make well supported beds did not sleep well at night. This shows us that people without self
respect lacked the very foundation to teach them about it the measure of slipping prestige is that one
tends to think only of homely children (Didion 4). She also lets us understand that the things we do to
earn respect as children is not the same we do as adults. The things she

George Etienne Cartier s Legacy And Contributions
For my heritage fair I decided to research George Etienne Cartier, who if you haven t heard about was
a lawyer, rebel, politician and railway promoter whose contributions to Confederation were on the
same level as figures like John A. Macdonald and George Brown(Sweeny). If you haven t heard of
any of these people, then don t worry I ll be going into length on all of them. Furthermore, if you were
wondering why I chose this topic to research, I would truthfully tell you that the only reason I chose
George Etienne Cartier was because he was as good a topic as anything else, so personally I didn t
care about the topic. But as I put more research into the topic I came to realize just how important
George Etienne Cartier was to Canada. Not just in his efforts towards Confederation but also the work
he put into preserving French culture and identity in Canada to railway development. Of course this
isn t as exciting as many other topics, but without George Cartier s legacy and contributions we would
most likely not be where we are today. In this report I will be covering the life of George Etienne
Cartier, including his early life, background, political life before and after Confederation.
Early Life and Rebellions
How did George Etienne Cartier grow up?
George Etienne Cartier was born on September 6th 1814 in Saint Antoine sur Richelieu to parents

Country And Rap Comparison
In September 2004, American hip hop recording artist Nelly released Over and Over , a collaboration
with American country singer songwriter Tim McGraw; the song peaked at number three on the US
Billboard Hot 100.This being one of the first of many country/ Hip Hop songs produced. When most
people think of Country music and Hip Hop/ Rap they do not think of the two as similar genre s
coming together to make music, but the two are very similar. Rap and Country both portray meaning,
as they express life stories throughout their lyrics. Symbolizing different meanings in their lives. The
two genres can also be very different, using different levels of aggression and portraying messages
differently. Since over the years music has developed now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hip hop/ Rap and Country both portray a very strong meaning behind their lyrical content, as they
express life stories throughout their lyrics. Although, Hip hop/rap is much more aggressive, majority
of rappers compose about drugs, or about how somebody they are close to has been raped or shot, or
even someone that they themselves have shot. As for country singers sing about how all they have
done lately is drink or get into a fight at a local bar over a specific girl. In majority of the music that

Summary Of Anthem By Ayn Rand
In the novella, Anthem, author Ayn Rand depicts a futuristic journey of rediscovery by the protagonist,
Equality 7 2521, and his struggles against the totalitarian government rule of his society. Throughout
the novella, the government shows full manipulation on the life of the people, revealing their moral
views and standards. In fact, everyone within the society is compelled to forget significant aspects of
humanity. However, when Equality 7 2521 escapes from the oppressive government, he undergoes a
series of events that creates contradictions regarding various principles and views he has been taught
to follow since childhood.
Various examples of the government s views are shown through Equality 7 2521 s perspective as the

Rather, the councils focus was on the lack of collectivism, also on the fact that a sweeper rediscovered
it, instead of a scholar. Therefore, the Council s responses show that technology and change aren t
priorities for the totalitarian government.
Equality 7 2521 s experiences throughout the novel enable him to perceive the government s
atrocities. Equality 7 2521 unconsciously demonstrates his repudiation of collectivism through his
actions. For instance, he chooses to keep his discovery of the tunnel undisclosed, as he says, This
place is ours. This place belongs to us, Equality 7 2521, and to no other men on earth (Rand 34).
Moreover, he solely works on his innovations, contradicting the collectivist view by the government.
However, it isn t until escaping the society that he completely rejects the government s view on
collectivism. Equality 7 2521 reads books written during the infamous era known as the
unmentionable times. Consequently, he states, I owe nothing to my brothers, nor do I gather debts
from them. I ask none to live for me, nor do I live for any others as well as, This word (we) must
never be placed first within man s soul (Rand 96). These quotes demonstrate

special place in my heart, due to the weather, its stunning beauty and the way it gives me a sense of
belonging. Beginning, my memories of Chicago are tied to one specific yet beautiful time I went to
Grant s Park in the spring. The first element that made this trip truly amazing was the weather. Of
course, it is a simple thing, but such a simple thing as the type of day it was really had an impact on

Overall, even though these are just little things, it is the type of day, the the places I went in the city,

My Life Goals For College
Most of my pre teen years I thought I was not able to go to college. I thought it was too expensive and
that only the smart people and people who had enough money could go. Until I got to middle school, I
found out about scholarships and how they can really help students of parents with low income go to
college. I wanted to learn more and more about programs that help students like me. I wanted to make
my parents proud but most importantly, myself. I think college is a gateway to a million possibilities
and doing the things you love for the rest of your life. This was the start of my lifelong goals. I was
born in Walla Walla Washington, on September 5th of 2000 but was raised in Lakewood Washington. I
m the oldest of my three siblings. Both of my parents come from Oaxaca, Mexico. As the oldest
sibling, I never had help with school. This kind of affected me with school. My grandparents didn t
have enough money to pay for my parents high school education. I was raised to have responsibilities
ate the age of 9, when my parents worked a lot because they needed money. I now go to Mount
Tahoma high school and will be a graduate of class of 2019 next year. I am hoping that I get enough
help to pay for college. I also am the first generation in my family that will attend college, I used to
think I wasn t going to be able to know things about college because my parents didn t know anything
about it, but then I joined a college program that showed me what college really was.

Robert Frost The Road Not Taken Response
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost also shows the traveler making his own moral decisions. The
traveler values perseverance. At the fork in the road, the traveler takes the less traveled path. The dark,
overgrown, and unpredictable path. As he walks along the path, he doesn t lose sight of what his goal
is, and doesn t even consider going back and taking the other path. His mind is set on taking the more
challenging path, no matter how hard it is. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way
leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. (Frost The Road Not Taken) Frost says, the
character in his poem is a representation of his friend Edward Thomas. Robert Frost admires his Welsh
friend, because he is known for making decisions and never looking back on them. Although the
traveler had originally wanted to travel down both roads, and hopes someday he can, he still chooses
to pick the path less traveled by. In those lines, this traveler is doubting he would ever get the chance
to come back, and pick between the two roads again, so he is happy and grateful he picked the road
that would benefit him, and challenge him the most. Persistence ensures we follow through with our

Substance Abuse And Deviant Behavior
The questions that you asked are very thought provoking. I have never thought about substance abuse
being a disease or caused from deviant behavior. However, now that I think about it, I feel that
substance abuse can be both a disease and caused from deviant behavior (even though I have never
thought of substance abuse as a deviant behavior before).
One example of how substance abuse could be considered a disease is if you have a mother that was
addicted to crack during her pregnancy, that child could have side effects due to the mother s drug use.
This could set the child up for failure because they could be addicted to crack later in life because of
its mother (disease).
Another example of how substance abuse could be considered a

Essay about Rime of Ancient Mariner
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, a complex tale of an old seafarer, was written by Samuel Taylor
Coleridge and published in 1798. According to the Longman Anthology of British Literature, the work
first appeared in Lyrical Ballads , a publication co authored with William Wordsworth (557). The
ancient mariner s journey provides for such a supernatural tale, that all who must hear it, specifically
the wedding guest in the poem, are enthralled. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the mariner s tale
is the obvious themes of sin and redemption. By using the story within a story method, Coleridge
gives the audience a tale that resembles a very Christian like voyage from one theme, sin, to the final
theme, redemption. Throughout his poem, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In James 1:17, the Bible says, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.
The audience, whether religious or not, is aware that the albatross is meant to be a Christian symbol.
From this point forward, the author shapes the story around the arrival and presence of the Albatross
and the subsequent events.
For reasons not specifically mentioned in the text, the mariner kills the albatross, which can be easily
related to a couple of infamous Christian sins.
First, the reader can see obvious similarities between the mariner and the Biblical character Adam.
According to Christian belief, Adam committed the original sin that caused mankind to suffer as a
whole (Harent 3). In The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, the original sin is the mariner s killing of the
God sent albatross. Even though the crew, like humanity, did not commit the original sin, they
ultimately inherit the repercussions of the sin.
The mariner admits that he understands that his actions would affect his shipmates when he says:
And I had done a hellish thing/ And it would work em woe (Coleridge ll. 91 92)
Also relatable to the mariner s sin is the story of Judas, a Biblical character who, in Luke 22, is said to
have betrayed Christ, leading to His ultimate crucifixion at the hands of humans.
Judas and the mariner can be seen as the typical, universal sinner who betrays God by transgressing
against Him. In this poem s case,

How Did Steve Jobs Achieve The American Dream
Joseph Rivelli Miss Curtin English 9 1 December 2015 Steve Jobs and The American Dream The
American Dream isn t an easy thing to achieve. The American Dream is when someone s hard work,
attitude, and determination leads to success and achieving their goals and their happiness. Steve Jobs
has achieved the American Dream because his attitude and determination led him to achieve his goals
and even more than he hoped for. The American Dream is achieving goals set and being happy. Some
say that the American Dream has become the pursuit of material prosperity. This may be achieving
goals and being happy to some people. However, material possessions only bring people short term

Skidmore In Paul Haven s The Case Of The Poisen Pretzel
Often in works of literature, authors will attempt to make the audience form an opinion about a certain
character through various descriptions of that character. The villians of the story are always described
in a dark manner. Usually they have a flaw that makes them an outcast. Being the black sheep in the
crowd does not shed a good light upon the villian in the story and typically the first time the audience
meets the character, they are pushed away at his or her discription. In the excerpt The Case of the
Poisen Pretzel , Skidmore is a character who is outcasted and disliked, yet his brother is the hero and
everyone in the story loves him. The brothers appear to have some sort of rivalry and this eventually
leads everyone to assuming that Skidmore is the cause of Manchester s demise. In the text The Case of
the Poisen Pretzel , by Paul Haven, the use of description, Skidmore s allergy, and the inheritence of
the Slugger s team, leads the reader to assume that Skidmore is gulity of murdering his brother. The
first way that the author implies that Skidmore is guilty is by describing him in the first part of the
excerpt. Skidmore is immediately described as the guy that no one really knows and is not well liked.
For example, SKidmore is described as being thin and wiry while wear dark, baggy clothes and a hat
that never allowed anyone to see his face. This example alone illustrates how Skidmore could give
anyone the creeps. Between his thin and wiry composure and the

Human Trafficking And Sexual Exploitation
Human trafficking has been dubbed the modern version of slavery as it is the act of taking an
individual by force or coercion for some aspect of labour purposes. The phenomenon of human
trafficking for sexual exploitation is not a recent one. Human trafficking has historical roots in
traditions of worldwide slavery and in debt bondage in the South East Asian region. In the 20th
century, during the periods of the First World War and the Second World War, human trafficking for
sexual exploitation grew as comfort women were used in Japanese occupied areas in South East Asia.
In modern times, globalization has proliferated both human trafficking and sex tourism industries
through people s increased ability to travel further and easier. Human trafficking, as opposed to human
smuggling, focuses heavily on the exploitation and violation of those subjected to it. Women, men,
and children are all at risk of being trafficked into exploitative work, including sexual labour. On the
other hand, sex tourism avoids focusing on its exploitative side and instead engages heavily with
global tourism in a lucrative industry. Women prostitutes are the primary contributor to the labour side
of sex tourism industries. Prostitution economies, especially in the Global South, thrive on the exotic
Third World sex workers .
Both sex tourism and human trafficking for sexual exploitation have dynamic gendered natures. Both
sides of the international sex industry have created sexual moral panics

Childhood Trauma and Neurological Development Essay
Childhood is a time for playdates and learning, a time for big dreams and imaginary adventures.
Safety and security should not be questions that linger in uncertainty. However, this is not the case for
many children across the globe. Thousands of children from all walks of life each day are faced with
unspeakable horror and must deal with the resulting trauma from then on. However, in children,
managing this trauma takes a different toll on the mind and heart than it does in adults. While the type
of trauma may vary in pervasiveness across countries, trauma occurring in childhood has the ability to
cause long term damage to the growing neurological functioning in the brain and negatively influence
children s spiritual development, wounding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cross the Atlantic, Canadian researchers Trocme, Fallon, MacLaurin, Vandna, Black, Fast, Felstiner,
Helie, Turcotte, Weightman, Douglas, and Holroyd (2008) denoted that the most common form of
childhood trauma is from abuse. 34% of children were being neglected by their caregivers and 20%
were being physically abused by caregivers (Trocme et al, 2008). As one can see, child trauma is a
major issue that is a part of multiple cultures regardless of the economic status of the country. Damage
done from trauma on the neurological functioning of the brain can be widespread, but can be found to
interfere with functioning of the hippocampus and the limbic system to a greater extent. Randall
(2011) explained that when a large amount of stress is continually placed on the brain from ongoing
trauma, cortisol, a fight or flight response chemical, can fail to stop firing when the stressor that
ignited the cortisol is no longer present. This excess of cortisol impairs the brains ability to function
properly (Randall, 2011). Andersen, Tomada, Vincow, Valente, Polcari, Teicher (2008) found that
women who had experienced sexual abuse during childhood actually had a difference in the volume of
their hippocampus (as cited in Pechtel and Pizzagalli, 2011). The region which controls memory and
emotional regulation was found to be smaller in the women who had been sexually abused in early
childhood in comparison to

The novel was published in the year 1937. It is a depiction of a woman, whose life itself is an
endeavour to oppose patriarchy. The protagonist show case great characteristic traits of representing
the spirit of change. She breaks the norms that are posed by the male chauvinistic people around her.
As the novel begins it is evident that Janie is suppressed by her own grandmother. This is the first
level of suppression she undergoes. Here, a woman is suppressed by another woman of her own
family, who has a mind that is glutted with the notions of patriarchy. The grandmother in Their Eyes
Were Watching God though understands the sufferings of Janie, believes that it is her duty to get Janie
married to the much older rich man. She believes that only a male support can make her life secured
and happy. Here the grandmother represents the familial violence that is meted out to young women
by people with patriarchal ideologies. According to her, a man is superior to a woman. She believes
that only a man can give life and protection to a woman. The grandmother sticks to the old beliefs
about marriage. This is one of the notorious notions that the patriarchal society hold on to. She fails to
understand that women can live a secured life without even getting married. However, Janie is
suppressed here. Janie is unable to protest against her much beloved grandmother. She becomes Logan

The Waking By Theodore Roethke Summary
People often draw meaning from poetry that in some way allows for a personal connection
strengthening the bond the writer hopes to make. The message that the flower of life s beauty can only
be witnessed for a brief moment, makes the individual value that time even more. Theodore Roethke s
conscious use of rhythmic repetition frames The Waking while emphasizing his view: people are not
living life to the fullest. The definition of how to truly live has, as proposed by Roethke, eluded the
people of the world. With this crisis he wastes no time in confronting his audience with his truth. In
the very first line of the poem he hits us with his first repeated phrase I wake to sleep, and take my
waking slow. (Roethke 826) He starts the poem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like in a building these lines are used as large supports that hold up the poem and are the focus of
each stanza. Line one repeats at the end of stanzas two and four while line three is repeated at the end
of stanzas three and five. Interestingly the lines are always placed at the end of the stanza which not
only creates rhythm, but also shows that the entire poem boils down to those two main lines. In stanza
two Roethke builds on line one by showing natural instinct. He includes the instinctual desire to feel
what we cannot see, and to hear which the body often uses to wake up. (Roethke 826) This
strengthens the first line and adds to the poem by emphasizing that living half asleep limits a person,
and robs them of certain things which otherwise might have been experienced. He continues this
pattern of strengthening in stanza three as he now adds more tow line three. By asking a question at
the beginning Roethke emphasizes his own imperceptibility which connects to the fact that he must
learn of those around him through limited senses. (Roethke 826) When he introduces the notion of
god, once again the notion of hope arises while he must still tread softly as not to make a

Athletic Performance Analysis
Throughout the course of Athletic Performance II my main purpose was to become a stronger and
more explosive athlete on the soccer field. By taking this class I have definitely met and exceeded my
purpose for being in this class. My short term fitness goals at the start of the semester were to achieve
a 34 inch vertical jump, get a 8 7 standing long jump, and improve my back squat max by 15lbs. In
order to reach these goals I was going to show up to class every day ready to go, focus on good
technique for lifts, and make sure I m not skipping any lift, set, or rep. This meant every day I needed
to show up to class on time with my goals in the back of my head. No matter how bad it hurt, or how

jump, SL Jump, and sit and reach. This solid base gave us an idea of what areas were our strengths and
what areas we would like to improve in. The Lifting Workouts were good and I liked that we lifted on
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This gave us a days break for our bodies to strengthen and
recover. The best day of class always fell on a Thursday. Thursday is razzle dazzle day which I m
pretty sure everyone in the class including me looks forward too. During Tuesday s I thought we
always had a good plyometric workout, hip, or speed workout. Whether it was jumping rope, going

7. Though numbers given in the cost data can not be contested, I would definitely contest the way total
cost has been computed. The item 345 department operates within a large manufacturing facility that
churns out number of other products too. Hence judging the profitability of item 345 on the basis of
total cost is not practical.
8. I would like to remove allocated costs and fixed overheads and see what would be the variable cost.
If this is done, you can see that the variable cost hovers around 7 FF. ( Not many of you have done
this)
9. As the product manager, I would argue that my primary task is to ensure a healthy contribution

selling overhead is an allocated cost. Moreover, the general plant overheads are also allocated costs.
10. My total variable costs look something like this. The one highlighted in green color.

Haile Selassie King of Kings, Conquering Lion of the tribe of Judah
When Ras Tafari Makonnen took the imperial throne in Ethiopia in 1930 as Haile Selassie I, a new
movement was born in Jamaica. The crowning of a Black King? Was this not what Marcus Garvey
told his Jamaican followers fifteen years earlier when he said Look to Africa for the crowning of a
Black King; he shall be the Redeemer (BARRETT 8 1)?
Selassie would prove to be one of Ethiopia s most noble leaders. He pushed education for his people.
He made a valiant effort to drag Ethiopia out of its stagnant state of unpaved roads, minimal schools,
very little education and no say in international affairs. He looked and carried himself like a king. The

This only added to the Jamaicans belief that he was their savior. Whether or not he was the second

Haile Selassie was not the infallible savior that these people saw from their island in the Caribbean,
however. As true with most governments and monarchies, Selassie s government had its deal of
corruption. Although they placed their faith in a noble King, the Jamaicans were disillusioned about
the man they believed to be their savior.
The old Ethiopian legend of the Kebra Negast tells the story of the Queen of Sheba s visit to Solomon
s mighty kingdom to learn the secrets of being a great leader. While in his kingdom the Queen of
Sheba bore Solomon a son, to which Solomon gave a jeweled ring to prove his descent from the seed
of David. The Queen of Sheba returned to her land in, then southern Ethiopia, what is today Somalia,
with her son to continue to rule the land (GORHAM 9).
Between two hundred and three hundred kings are believed to have ruled between the time of
Solomon and Haile Selassie, the last emperor of Ethiopia.
Believed to have been descended from the seed of David, Tafari Makonnen was born July 23, 1892 in
the city of Harar in the eastern province of Harege (KALEIDOSCOPE). His mother died two years

The Pros Of Construct Validity
Any time a test is conducted, one of the major concerns is if the test is valid or not. Testing the validity
of a test is the measurement of how well what is being tested is measured. For example, a test might
be designed to measure a stable personality trait but instead measure transitory emotions generated by
situational or environmental conditions. A valid test ensures that the results are an accurate reflection
of the dimension undergoing assessment (Cherry, 2016). There are two main types of validity: content
related validity and criterion related validity.
Content related validity includes face validity and constructs validity. Face validity ask the question
does this test what is supposed to be tested. According to Saul McLeod, ... Show more content on

This type of validity refers to the extent to which a test captures a specific theoretical construct or trait,
and it overlaps with some of the other aspects of validity. Construct validity does not concern the
simple factual question of whether a test measures an attribute (Cronbach Meehl, 1955). To test for
construct validity it must be demonstrated that the phenomenon being measured actually exists. So,
the construct validity of a test for intelligence, for example, is dependent on a model or theory of
intelligence. Construct validity entails demonstrating the power of such a construct to explain a
network of research findings and to predict further relationships. The more evidence a researcher can
demonstrate for a test s construct validity the better. However, there is no single method of
determining the construct validity of a test. Instead, different methods and approaches are combined to
present the overall construct validity of a test. For example, factor analysis and correlational methods
can be used (McLeod, 2013). The method is imperative to predicting the future potential of
candidates. Because the more information that can be produced by the construct validity test the more
material can be used to forecast the individual

though to some extent, it is hard for people, who traditionally lived in dormitories divided into male

Lehigh made in giving students a sense of belonging and allowing them to experience more diverse

The Importance Of Historical Fiction
Historical Fiction has been around since the beginning of history. Historical Fiction is always
changing and adapting to the new history around us. Since time changes so fast and so much, it is
important to learn about the past. When learning about the past it is less likely that one would repeat
some of the same horrific actions that happened in the past. Historical Fiction is important because it
is the background information to people s knowledge, it is important for the world to learn and know,
and it should be taught in schools to widen children s education levels. Without out all of these things
many people would not even bother with historical fiction. Since history is always changing it is very
to tell a story about fictional events. Historical fiction is just like that. Historical Fiction is a story told
about an event perhaps fictional or real, and about people also fiction or real. ( Phillpott, A History of
Historical Fiction). Historical fiction takes a piece of history and adds fiction story that people can
relate to. For many people when they read historical fiction it opens up an unknown about history.
When a new historical fiction book is read people can learn more about a historical event that they
might not have known about before. Reading historical fiction can give them a new background
knowledge. This then makes people want to learn more about history and read more historical fiction.
Historical fiction is very important because it can bring

They stated that they all went to the beach and eventually dropped Holloway back off at the Holiday

Faustus. Christopher Marlowe s play dealt with this controversial topic in 1590 s. The story of Doctor
Faustus is just as relevent today as it was hundreds of years ago. This paper will be a study of the pros
and cons of the idea of selling your soul to the devil.
Doctor Faustus was a well respected scholar; he was bored of and not happy with traditional forms of
knowledge like logic, medicine, law, and religion. He wanted to learn magic so two of his friends
promised to teach him the secrets of black magic. The first thing he did was summon
Mephasthophilis, one of Lucifer s servants. Since Doctor Faustus had great ambitions he told
Mephasthophilis to go back to Lucifer so he could strike a deal with the devil to learn everything in
the world. For twenty four years of service from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is evidence to support both. For example in the essay by Elizabeth Poole she discusses his
original goal that starts all this. His ambition to know and see things that no other human has seen
before is considered highly romantic. The way he handles himself after making the deal is the tragedy.
Sadly he is presented with several chances to repent but he refuses. Ms. Poole discusses his denial of
God and his wish for knowledge and control over nature. In Act 2 Scene 1, pg 16 19 he is confronted
by opposing angels good and bad. Faustus says : Contrition, Prayer, repentance what of these? the
good angel replies: O, they are means to bring thee unto heaven. the bad angel says: Rather illusions,
fruits of lunacy. That make them foolish that do use the most. Faustus chooses not to believe he can

  • 3. Summary Of Self Respect By Didion Weekly Critique 2 Summary of the reading Self Respect by Didion is an essay that compares a lot of things about self respect to our lives. In the beginning of the Self Respect essay, the author talks about the situation she experienced when she was nineteen years old which had to do with the failure to be pledged to a college honor society. She did not have the grades to qualify her to be pledged into the honor society, which made her come to a realization that we are not handed out things in life rather, we have to earn them no winning smiles will do over here, no pretty drawn lines of good intentions (Didion 2). She also realized that we are not judged in this life based on who we are but on what we have done to earn them and that made her feel a loss of innocence the day I did not make Phi Beth Kappa nonetheless marked the end of something and innocence may well be the word for it (Didion 2) hence making her understand that all situations have a consequence. This essay compares people with no self respect to children sleeping in the bed they made for themselves showing us that children who did not make well supported beds did not sleep well at night. This shows us that people without self respect lacked the very foundation to teach them about it the measure of slipping prestige is that one tends to think only of homely children (Didion 4). She also lets us understand that the things we do to earn respect as children is not the same we do as adults. The things she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

George Etienne Cartier s Legacy And Contributions For my heritage fair I decided to research George Etienne Cartier, who if you haven t heard about was a lawyer, rebel, politician and railway promoter whose contributions to Confederation were on the same level as figures like John A. Macdonald and George Brown(Sweeny). If you haven t heard of any of these people, then don t worry I ll be going into length on all of them. Furthermore, if you were wondering why I chose this topic to research, I would truthfully tell you that the only reason I chose George Etienne Cartier was because he was as good a topic as anything else, so personally I didn t care about the topic. But as I put more research into the topic I came to realize just how important George Etienne Cartier was to Canada. Not just in his efforts towards Confederation but also the work he put into preserving French culture and identity in Canada to railway development. Of course this isn t as exciting as many other topics, but without George Cartier s legacy and contributions we would most likely not be where we are today. In this report I will be covering the life of George Etienne Cartier, including his early life, background, political life before and after Confederation. Early Life and Rebellions How did George Etienne Cartier grow up? George Etienne Cartier was born on September 6th 1814 in Saint Antoine sur Richelieu to parents Jacques Cartier (not the explorer) and Marguerite Paradis. Country And Rap Comparison In September 2004, American hip hop recording artist Nelly released Over and Over , a collaboration with American country singer songwriter Tim McGraw; the song peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100.This being one of the first of many country/ Hip Hop songs produced. When most people think of Country music and Hip Hop/ Rap they do not think of the two as similar genre s coming together to make music, but the two are very similar. Throughout the novella, the government shows full manipulation on the life of the people, revealing their moral views and standards. Rather, the councils focus was on the lack of collectivism, also on the fact that a sweeper rediscovered it, instead of a scholar. Therefore, the Council s responses show that technology and change aren t priorities for the totalitarian government. Equality 7 2521 s experiences throughout the novel enable him to perceive the government s atrocities. Equality 7 2521 unconsciously demonstrates his repudiation of collectivism through his actions. For instance, he chooses to keep his discovery of the tunnel undisclosed, as he says, This place is ours. This place belongs to us, Equality 7 2521, and to no other men on earth (Rand 34). • 23. Essay about Rime of Ancient Mariner The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, a complex tale of an old seafarer, was written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and published in 1798. According to the Longman Anthology of British Literature, the work first appeared in Lyrical Ballads , a publication co authored with William Wordsworth (557). The ancient mariner s journey provides for such a supernatural tale, that all who must hear it, specifically the wedding guest in the poem, are enthralled. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the mariner s tale is the obvious themes of sin and redemption. By using the story within a story method, Coleridge gives the audience a tale that resembles a very Christian like voyage from one theme, sin, to the final theme, redemption. Throughout his poem, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In James 1:17, the Bible says, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above. The audience, whether religious or not, is aware that the albatross is meant to be a Christian symbol. From this point forward, the author shapes the story around the arrival and presence of the Albatross and the subsequent events. For reasons not specifically mentioned in the text, the mariner kills the albatross, which can be easily related to a couple of infamous Christian sins. First, the reader can see obvious similarities between the mariner and the Biblical character Adam. According to Christian belief, Adam committed the original sin that caused mankind to suffer as a whole (Harent 3). In The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, the original sin is the mariner s killing of the God sent albatross. Even though the crew, like humanity, did not commit the original sin, they ultimately inherit the repercussions of the sin. The mariner admits that he understands that his actions would affect his shipmates when he says: And I had done a hellish thing/ And it would work em woe (Coleridge ll. 91 92) Also relatable to the mariner s sin is the story of Judas, a Biblical character who, in Luke 22, is said to have betrayed Christ, leading to His ultimate crucifixion at the hands of humans. Judas and the mariner can be seen as the typical, universal sinner who betrays God by transgressing against Him. In this poem s case, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Steve Jobs has achieved the American Dream because his attitude and determination led him to achieve his goals and even more than he hoped for. The American Dream is achieving goals set and being happy. Some say that the American Dream has become the pursuit of material prosperity. This may be achieving goals and being happy to some people. However, material possessions only bring people short term happiness. People should try and achieve long term happiness. Yet others look toward a new American Dream with less focus on a financial gain and more emphasis on living a simple, fulfilling life. Skidmore In Paul Haven s The Case Of The Poisen Pretzel Often in works of literature, authors will attempt to make the audience form an opinion about a certain character through various descriptions of that character. The villians of the story are always described in a dark manner. Usually they have a flaw that makes them an outcast. Being the black sheep in the crowd does not shed a good light upon the villian in the story and typically the first time the audience meets the character, they are pushed away at his or her discription. In the excerpt The Case of the Poisen Pretzel , Skidmore is a character who is outcasted and disliked, yet his brother is the hero and everyone in the story loves him. The brothers appear to have some sort of rivalry and this eventually leads everyone to assuming that Skidmore is the cause of Manchester s demise. • 26. Human Trafficking And Sexual Exploitation Human trafficking has been dubbed the modern version of slavery as it is the act of taking an individual by force or coercion for some aspect of labour purposes. The phenomenon of human trafficking for sexual exploitation is not a recent one. Human trafficking has historical roots in traditions of worldwide slavery and in debt bondage in the South East Asian region. In the 20th century, during the periods of the First World War and the Second World War, human trafficking for sexual exploitation grew as comfort women were used in Japanese occupied areas in South East Asia. In modern times, globalization has proliferated both human trafficking and sex tourism industries through people s increased ability to travel further and easier. Human trafficking, as opposed to human smuggling, focuses heavily on the exploitation and violation of those subjected to it. Women, men, and children are all at risk of being trafficked into exploitative work, including sexual labour. On the other hand, sex tourism avoids focusing on its exploitative side and instead engages heavily with global tourism in a lucrative industry. Women prostitutes are the primary contributor to the labour side of sex tourism industries. Prostitution economies, especially in the Global South, thrive on the exotic Third World sex workers . As one can see, child trauma is a major issue that is a part of multiple cultures regardless of the economic status of the country. Damage done from trauma on the neurological functioning of the brain can be widespread, but can be found to interfere with functioning of the hippocampus and the limbic system to a greater extent. Randall (2011) explained that when a large amount of stress is continually placed on the brain from ongoing trauma, cortisol, a fight or flight response chemical, can fail to stop firing when the stressor that ignited the cortisol is no longer present. This excess of cortisol impairs the brains ability to function properly (Randall, 2011). The message that the flower of life s beauty can only be witnessed for a brief moment, makes the individual value that time even more. Theodore Roethke s conscious use of rhythmic repetition frames The Waking while emphasizing his view: people are not living life to the fullest. The definition of how to truly live has, as proposed by Roethke, eluded the people of the world. With this crisis he wastes no time in confronting his audience with his truth. In stanza two Roethke builds on line one by showing natural instinct. He includes the instinctual desire to feel what we cannot see, and to hear which the body often uses to wake up. (Roethke 826) This strengthens the first line and adds to the poem by emphasizing that living half asleep limits a person, and robs them of certain things which otherwise might have been experienced. He continues this pattern of strengthening in stanza three as he now adds more tow line three. By asking a question at the beginning Roethke emphasizes his own imperceptibility which connects to the fact that he must learn of those around him through limited senses. Haile Selassie King of Kings, Conquering Lion of the tribe of Judah When Ras Tafari Makonnen took the imperial throne in Ethiopia in 1930 as Haile Selassie I, a new movement was born in Jamaica. The crowning of a Black King? Selassie would prove to be one of Ethiopia s most noble leaders. He pushed education for his people. Haile Selassie was not the infallible savior that these people saw from their island in the Caribbean, however. As true with most governments and monarchies, Selassie s government had its deal of corruption. Although they placed their faith in a noble King, the Jamaicans were disillusioned about the man they believed to be their savior. The old Ethiopian legend of the Kebra Negast tells the story of the Queen of Sheba s visit to Solomon s mighty kingdom to learn the secrets of being a great leader. While in his kingdom the Queen of Sheba bore Solomon a son, to which Solomon gave a jeweled ring to prove his descent from the seed of David. The Queen of Sheba returned to her land in, then southern Ethiopia, what is today Somalia, with her son to continue to rule the land (GORHAM 9). Between two hundred and three hundred kings are believed to have ruled between the time of Solomon and Haile Selassie, the last emperor of Ethiopia. Believed to have been descended from the seed of David, Tafari Makonnen was born July 23, 1892 in the city of Harar in the eastern province of Harege (KALEIDOSCOPE). • 35. The Pros Of Construct Validity Any time a test is conducted, one of the major concerns is if the test is valid or not. Testing the validity of a test is the measurement of how well what is being tested is measured. For example, a test might be designed to measure a stable personality trait but instead measure transitory emotions generated by situational or environmental conditions. A valid test ensures that the results are an accurate reflection of the dimension undergoing assessment (Cherry, 2016). There are two main types of validity: content related validity and criterion related validity. Content related validity includes face validity and constructs validity. Face validity ask the question does this test what is supposed to be tested. According to Saul McLeod, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This type of validity refers to the extent to which a test captures a specific theoretical construct or trait, and it overlaps with some of the other aspects of validity. Construct validity does not concern the simple factual question of whether a test measures an attribute (Cronbach Meehl, 1955). To test for construct validity it must be demonstrated that the phenomenon being measured actually exists. So, the construct validity of a test for intelligence, for example, is dependent on a model or theory of intelligence. Construct validity entails demonstrating the power of such a construct to explain a network of research findings and to predict further relationships. The more evidence a researcher can demonstrate for a test s construct validity the better. However, there is no single method of determining the construct validity of a test. Instead, different methods and approaches are combined to present the overall construct validity of a test. For example, factor analysis and correlational methods can be used (McLeod, 2013). The method is imperative to predicting the future potential of candidates.
