3. Research
• Strengths
• The strengths of research were that you could get an idea of what to
include on your magazine cover and what the conventions are. For
example when looking at the magazines you know what type of font , text
and pugs are usually used. Another strength is that you get to see and
think about your target audience and demographic.
• Weakness
• One weakness is that you don’t need to analyse every little detail on the
cover. For example all magazines include different backgrounds and text
styles. Another weakness is that you may not need to analyse 3 magazines
as they are all the same genre.
4. Planning
• The strengths of planning is that you get to get to grip with what type of
magazine you are going to create. The mind map also gives you a lot of
options as you can chose 3 or 4 genres which you can then chose from
when the mind map is finished. Another strength Is that you get to look at
images when doing a mood board to do with your magazine. This lets you
visually see what you are going to include or similar things you are going
to use.
• A weakness is that you can not change ideas once you have finished your
mind map and mood board unless you want to do it all again. Another
weakness is that many of the images on you mood board are very similar
to others such as with a football magazine you can only include a limited
amount of pictures.
5. Time Management
• I think that I managed my time very well , this is because I finished before
the deadline and had time to check over my work numerous times. If I had
additional time I probably wouldn't’t make any changes to my magazine
due to it being done to my satisfaction. When getting a new piece of work
I would complete it within the deadline and then look back over it. For
example with the production experiment I completed that within the
deadline therefore I started to create more experiments.
6. Technical Qualities
Similarities
One similarity is that they both include white/grey background so that the other things on the magazine stand out
such as text. Another similarity is that both magazines include big bold text which can be easily identified as the
title. The final similarities is that they both include similar color schemes for example on the real magazine the
player is wearing red therefore they have used red all over the magazine.
Differences
One difference is that I have include more black on my magazine , this is because black stands out on a white
background. Another difference is that the real magazine has included a main story in the middle of the page.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
I think that my work looks fairly good , this is because I have
looked at magazines very closely and tried to replicate all
the conventions. I think that my magazine was quite creative
as I have included personal made up stories as well as I have
customized the main image. If I was going to improve the
cover I would include a main article on the front with Wayne
Rooney as the headline.
Strengths
One strength is that it unique as it includes made up articles
as well as unique competitions. Another strength is that
there is a clear color scheme within the magazine
(red,white,black).
Weakness
One weakness is that there is not such a main article on the
front which is common in magazines. Another weakness is
that the text could be bigger as it is hard to read when the
cover is minimized.
8. Audience Appeal
I have appealed to my age demographic as I have used
simple language which is easy to understand. Another way I
have appealed to my target audience is by using the team
Manchester united , this appeals to my target audience of
football fans and Manchester united fans. Finally I have
appealed to my age audience as I have used words such as
exclusive , free and win , all these words make the audience
want to purchase the magazine.
My magazine has appealed to the male audience as on the
cover there is an image of England's most well known
footballer.
Finally my magazine has appealed to working class people as
this magazine is only £1.98 a week however that it optional.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
I like your magazine because you linked the colour
scheme to the player and added content related to the
character in the centre of the magazine.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
I think you could have put in more content to the
magazine because there was too much space what
wasn’t filled.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
• I like the cover of the magazine with details on the footballer on the
front and the text boxes that match the colours of the football kit
• Another thing that I like about the cover is the title what also
matches the theme of football
• I also like the double page spread because it matches the theme of
fifa 18 with the yellow colour
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• I would make an improvement so that the double page spread is
also red to match the front cover
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I like how detailed the manoeuvres are
– The cover portrays exactly what kind of magazine
it is
– The colours are eye catching
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• You could centre the text in the red bubble
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
• I do agree with that I could include more text or pictures on the magazine as there is to much
room not being filled. I also agree with the fact that the colors are eye catching and the
pictures show the magazine to be a football one. Finally I agree with yellow background as it
relates to FIFA.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
• I disagree with changing the background red , this is because then the black font would not
stick out on the background as much. I also disagree with moving the red circle as then the
cover would looked more cramped.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
One change I may make is adding more text or pictures on the front of the
magazine. This is so then people would get more of an insight of what is in the
magazine. To do this I would include possible game facts to do with FIFA or add
more competitions onto the front. Another thing I may change is to add a main
article on the front of a magazine , this is as most football magazines have on. For
example on mine would be Wayne Rooney then text underneath it. I also may add
an issue number on the front so that people know what week this is. Finally I may
add more shapes on my double page spread so that people will know what else is in
the magazine , this will also intrigue the reader.
