2. Process
• I first started with this picture as I saw a similar
magazine double page spread which inspired me to
create one based on an image of the artists on both
sides of the magazine page. After choosing the
image I then added the text and chose the headline
“nowadays” due to the artist singing that song and
the article being about what he is up to, this is
similar to many newspaper headlines however this
it very common also within magazines. I chose the
white and the black font as I felt that it stood out on
the peachy background, I also wanted the
background to be quite simplistic however I wanted
it to stand out. I also chose a darker colour of peach
so that it would contrast with the background.
When finishing off my double page spread I ensured
that every detail would be in line and fitted within
the magazine. This is because in magazines
everything is usually aligned. This makes it look
more professional. To do this I inserted rulers all
around the page in necessary places so that I could
line up all the font. To do this I selected CRT and R.
This was necessary when doing a magazine as it
makes the magazine look more professional.
3. Process
• For my album cover I wanted to create a cartoon
album cover , this was due to myself looking at
existing ones which inspired me to do this. I looked at
ones such as Tekashi 69 and lil uzi. To do this I had to
get a well known artist this was so that the audience
would recognise him I also wanted someone with a
clear background. I then also chose an artist with
shorter hair as is they had for example frizzy hair
drawing round them would be to time consuming. To
draw round the artist I would select the lasso polygon
tool and outline the character , after selecting the
specific part I would fill that in. I thought this went
quite well however I did find it challenging at first. I
then continued to go round the hair , body and the
facial features. After completing the cartoon I felt
quite happy especially with the drake one as it was
clear to me as well as the audience that it was drake. I
also received feedback form the audience about the
cartoon , this was all positive. I then repeated this
method several times , some coming out looking
decent and some looking poor. For the background I
wanted to include a summer colour such as red and
orange or even included a gradient consisting light
pale colours.
4. Process
• When creating my album cover I wanted to use
my cartoon characters or implement at least one
due to them taking several hours. I then chose
the name focused due to the image making drake
look focused. I chose the black font due to it
already being shown on the album cover and it
also standing out and being simplistic , this is so
the audience can tell what the album cover Is
called. I then wanted to add something which
related to the artist as the background , this was
because then I could so I chose the Canadian flag
colours as well as the famous maple leaf. This is
where the rapper is from. To get the maple leaf to
be very faint I changed the brightness to about 7
per cent. I then finally added the finishing
touches which were the parental advisory logo ,
this is because in most of drakes songs he usually
swears or uses bad language. I also then added a
black bold line under the title so that there was a
separation between the title and the artist. To do
this I selected the line tool and changed the
stroke , this was so it was clearly visible. To do this
I selected the line and added a 3pt stroke.
.
5. Process
• Firstly when creating my magazine I looked at
existing ones , one being the drake Billboard
magazine cover. This inspired me to create one
similar. I copied one element from that cover such
as the highlighted the sub headings, this was so
they stand out and draw the readers attention. This
is different to most magazine covers. I felt that this
looked decent and classy. I then also added a pug
which was the sticker on the right hand side , I
included this so that the audience can instantly see
what they can win , this may influence the
customer to buy it. I then added a large black
heading of DRAKE , this was because older or
younger readers than my target audience did not
know who he was they do now. I then added
several teasers to what is inside this weeks edition ,
this is so that the buyer can see what is going to be
inside without buying it.
• Finally I added the large white masthead as it stood
out on the grey scale background. I also added the
barcode as this is necessary for the buyer to
purchase the item. To do this I got a barcode from
Google and pasted it into Photoshop.
6. Process
• When fist starting this version of an album cover I
wanted to include a gradient background to do this
I went and found one on Google. I then wanted to
include a mixture of artists similar to albums such
as now 96 and the ministry of sound. I then had
loads of experimental cartoon characters I wanted
to include. I then added them all on the cover. I
altered the size depending on the artists for
example Drake is the most well known therefore he
is the biggest has he has the largest fan base. I also
added their names which I curved around them ,
this was so that people would know who they are.
To bend the text I had to select edit and wrap the
text I then had to select the arc tool and bend it to
the amount I wanted. I then came up with the
name the mix due to their being a mixture of artists
and also relating to a mix tape which involves many
songs. I then finally included a parental advisory
logo as these artists all include explicit language.
When completing this album cover I had mixed
opinions as I liked the cartoons however I didn't’t
like them all together . I then decided to make a
backup and see how that went.
