2. Process
Photography
To take my images for the cover I used a canon camera trying too get long shots of
the musicians including the guitars as much as possible, I also focused on close up
shots allowing them too fit onto portrait A4 pages.
I chose to use the 3rd image along due to there being lots of space above the
musician for my mast head also because that particular image is a more action
shot where the artist is moving, the other images didn’t leave me enough space
fro my mast head as well as the 4th being landscape when I need a portrait view.
3. Process
Once I had chosen my image i started my masthead
using the ‘fat ass’ font I downloaded from
Dafont.com. I decided to base my magazine of the
independent company vice magazine I followed
this magazine by making the page have more white
space focusing on the main points, I also used a
raw image and a similar font style.
4. Process
• Using the sharp font on dafont
I made my subheading of
“subcultures” placing under
the title, his makes it more
visible as a subheading as well
as the hash tag makes people
aware it’s the subculture issue.
• I also made a sticker in the top
right for the issue number, I
based it around vice magazines
sticker again, but I used the
square tool and fonts from
dafont adding a white overlay
on all of it.
5. Process
• In my magazine I plan on making a double page spread covering skin heads, I decided I would
fill in some of my white space to make it look professional I downloaded a S.H.A.R.P trojan
badge and stuck it on. I placed it under the title but in the gap between the guitar and him so
it look nicer.
• I then gave it the subheading of “Skinhead a brief history” summing up the article in few
words.
6. Process
• I then made the main subheading for this page using a pun on words
with the bands title, also I used a bands logo to give fan recognition. I
also olaced the text just below the image of the guy so people can tell
this title fits this image and people will presume he's in this band.
7. Process
• The final change I made to the cover to finish it up was
adding in a selling line full of several different bands, I
used the rectangle tool and turned the opacity down.
• I chose 4 bands and placed a star shape in-between
each one to split them up and list them.
9. Process
• I then began making my contents page for the magazine I again based the
page from vice magazine using one center image on the page then the text
below it in two columns. I used this image because the focus point is the
person in the middle having the most color and it stands out, so using the
rule of thirds I placed the main focus image in the center third. i then used
the stroke tool adding a purple boarder around the image too give the page a
bit more color and fill some white space
10. Process
For my magazine I chose to write my own review on a
band I recently went to go see, so during the bands live
performance I took notes and wrote down what I thought
about the different components of the gig. I sadly did not
manage too take any of my own images on the night.
11. Process
• When I started making the review on Photoshop I
made the layout identical to a review I previously made
with the title of the page at the very top with the page
number and marker, then the image in the centre of
the page and text at the lower half.
• I used the title of the band with the plain lines font of
dafont, due to theme both being a very similar style. I
then used the shape tool at the top left of the page to
make my marker using purple to match the colour
scheme I used.
12. Process
These are the images I chose to be featured in my magazine because they were the
correct landscape shape I made in my layout, and I also believe the filter and style
of the image fits the genre and style of my magazine. I also like the use of the
medium shot as it captures the musicians facial expressions as one image is
portraying the people to be sad and the second image is portraying them to be up-
beat and happy.
13. Process
The next step I took in finishing my page was putting in the text, I used the ruler
tool when making the page so I could easily column the text I have keeping it
more professional. I then had lots of white space left i had to fill in so i chose to
make a marker that shows the bands latest album too give more information
about the band and make it more interesting.
14. Process
• I then decided I would make a double page spread for my magazine, so I
started by laying out the rulers making easier for me to layout the page
and makes it look more professional. Also with the rulers there it makes it
a lot easier for me to write up the article on word then lay it down in
columns on the page, it also gives me boarders for the page number and
web address.
15. Process
• The article I chose to write about was skinhead history and there culture, so I
took several images of a group of skinheads in Leeds and chose two I was
going to use in the magazine. I focused on a portrait shot for the full page
image I was planning on using, and then I wanted an action shot of the group
allowing the readers to see what they actually do and how there culture
makes a different, I found a perfect longshot of the group protesting.
16. Process
• After I chose the image I chose I then used a font from dafont.com, picking
a punk style font that I believe linked with the genre of the article. I also
placed it there because the colours contrast well and I want it to be the
first thing you see on the page. I then used the landscape image I chose of
the skinheads, I chose this image because I wanted an image of the group
together as well as an action shot of them whilst protesting to show what
sort of a movement they are.
17. PROCESS
• I then used the ruler tool to fit in the text for my article making it laid out in columns so it
looks more professional and is easy to follow, I then added the magazines web address to the
page.
18. Process
• I then made the second page of the spread using a portrait image I chose
because it is a relevant long shot portraying what skinheads where, the
image also has plenty of white space for me too play with and fit the rest
of the articles text. I chose too make the text white so it stands out and is
easy to read also it fits the colors in the image from the union jack.
