Evaluation Question 2
1. How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
2. Similarities
• Direct mode of address by looking at
the audience both times.
• High key lighting used in both
instances which gives the magazine
the happy feeling.
• Facial expressions are both serious
and there is no smiling on either
magazines.
• Both have blonde curly hair which is
stereotypical of pop stars.
• Both shots are medium close ups and
are at the eye level of the model.
• Both images represent a genre of a
pop/charts magazine because Taylor
Swift is one of these artists.
Differences
• Costumes are different. My model is
wearing winter clothing whilst the
magazine is wearing summer
clothing.
• Over the shoulder shot on the
professional magazine whereas mine
is an eyelevel shot.
• Positioning of characters with mine
being straight on and the professional
magazine having the model tilted.
• The professional magazine has a
background whereas my magazine is
just plain white.
• Taylor Swift looks paler than my
model which is to do with the
lighting.
• Taylor Swift seems to be stood up
whereas my model is sat down.
3. How does the model represent the
target audience?
• The target audience are both genders who are
mid teenage (15+) to young adult age (approx
25).
• My model is stereotypical of people of this age
group. My model has large, blonde frizzy hair
and is wearing branded clothing. She looks
quite glamorous.
• She also has a stern look on her face which
would be relatable for teenage girls.
4. How does the model represent the
target audience?
• My model is wearing makeup and this is
relatable for the young girl section of my
target audience.
• My target audience is more female because
my model is somebody that teenage girls
would want to aspire to look like and they
would want to be like her.
5. How does the model represent the
target audience?
• Some would believe that the model looks
rather wild with the extravagant hair. This
represents teenage females as if they are wild
and care about their appearance which is
how I wanted the model to be perceived by
the target audience and have her as a role
model for them.
6. Conclusion
• Overall, I feel the model displays some
similarities to those in existing magazines
(such as Taylor Swift, as mentioned before).
• However, I do believe the model accurately
represents the target audience of young
females due to her appearance and her
clothing.
