Evaluation question 2
1. E V A L U A T I O N : Q U E S T I O N 2
HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL
GROUP?
2. MY MODEL VS BILLBOARD
My model is wearing similar clothing to what Billboardâs
model; Lorde is wearing. Both have went for the simple t-
shirt and jeans. The makeup of the two artists are also
similar, my model has went for the winged eyeliner natural
look, just like Lorde. The hair style is simply wavy which is the
same for Billboardâs model.

3. COMPARISON
My
model
Billboardâs
model
The lighting of my photograph is quite shaded as I made an edit of the original
so that it would look good on my double page spread. Billboard however
have used very bright colours to expose Nicki Minaj. Both camera angles are
shot from the waist up and show a close up of the two models. My modelâs
body language shows a happy, calm and relaxing pose. Whereas Billboardâs
could be said to be more dominant and overpowering by the pose that the
model is doing. You can also tell by the facial expression on Billboardâs
magazine that the photo-shoot is more serious .
4. IDEOLOGY
⢠The reason my target audience/readers might look
up to my model and aspire to be like them is
because despite using Photoshop to work with the
layout of my magazine, no editing was done to
make my model look better, therefore itâs natural
and teenage girls of today need to see what itâs like
without edits done to the model to make it
âperfectâ. This should make girls feel more
comfortable in their own skin and could help boost
the confidence of those who read my magazine.
This could be good inspiration for teenage girls.
5. MY TARGET AUDIENCE
⢠My target audience is girls aged 15-21. I chose this when I got
the results of my survey which showed 15-21 year old girls are
the oneâs most likely to read my magazine. They loves things
such as fashion and pop music. To connect with my readers I
have took care in choosing my model. The age of my model is
16 therefore fits in with the genre and target audience of my
magazine. Despite my target audience being aimed at 15-21
year old girls this doesnât mean older people canât enjoy the
magazine either. My reader profile on my blog shows my
results of the survey which have an influence on the model I
chose and the colours I used in my magazine which I have
shown at the top of this page. The colours chosen are based
on my survey results and what my target audience want from
my magazine. Iâve limited the choice of colours so that I donât
use too many colours, but the colours are bright and work well
with my genre.
6. SOCIAL CLASS
⢠The social class of my target audience would be
from the underclass to the middle class. I feel like
teenage girls in this category would enjoy my music
magazine because of the genre that it is. I can
relate to this through the survey that I did. My model
wears clothing that could be seen worn by any of
these social classes therefore fits into these
categories.
7. ETHNICITY
⢠Pop doesnât have a specific ethnicity. Many people
listen to this genre of music, however, from my
survey it is mainly white girls who are more likely to
read my magazine. Typically pop is stereotyped into
a girls genre however, there are boys who prefer to
listen to pop than any other genre.
8. WHAT SHOWS ATTITUDE IN MY
PRODUCTION?
⢠The way my model poses shows a friendly attitude, which
welcomes the reader into the magazine. It fits well with the
genre because it invites the reader whereas if my magazine
was rock, the artist may look more fierce and bold.
⢠The facial expression that my model is doing is an indication as
to what genre my magazine is. It shows attitude and because
my model is smiling it shows a warm atmosphere and
welcomes the target audience.
⢠Body language can also show attitude depending on what
the stance the body is in. My model is facing the camera,
which shows a friendly invitation which will draw readers in
who like my genre. If my model was facing away from the
camera and frowning it wouldnât look very inviting to the
target audience and they probably wouldnât buy my
magazine
