3. •My magazine is about dance music and upbeat songs:
• The person on the covers appearance and style will influence what your
audience will be like. Due to her being a well-known artist her work will be
known worldwide so she will get a lot of attention. AS well as collaborating
with Drake a superstar globally.
• The age group varies on the music the subject likes. However my intended
audience is 13/21 years old. Chey is young and she’s a female.
• My magazine is suited to girls or boys whoever likes the artist. The colours
aren’t towards a certain gender more her style of music however different
genders might have a specific preference. My artist’s ethnicity is mixed race
however that doesn’t mean her music pertains to that ethnicity or religion. As
well as sexuality anyone can enjoy our magazine and music, her music
enforces positivity and good vibes not prejudice and persecution towards
others; just about having a good time.
4. •I conveyed her as:
• A very edgy and stylish person.
• Due to her outfits and her advertising of “skrrr” a very modern clothing brand, selling
clothes via social media and models wearing their clothing range. Chey Dubeck is a very
pretty girl, her outfits are summery and bright as hats what she’s advertising in this
magazine. Her look is trendy and on point many of her clothes you can find on “Boohoo” a
cheap website to purchase clothes, with 30% off.
• Her facial expression on the image on the front cover is very serious however it’s not rude
or aggressive. Her mannerisms and the way she’s standing connotes she’s powerfully and
prestige. She has fists clenched however her hands are cut out of the final cover.
• As well as her lips are plum and pursed she’s using her sexuality to get what she wants. If
she is not depicted as sexy and alluring or in revealing clothing then you are breaking even
more conventions. Her aim is to sell covers. Due to her age and the age of some of her
audience she’s not going to portray herself in an inappropriate provocative way.
• She looks very serious and zoned out in this shot. Although her facial expression and body
language is serious and on edge the magazines music is about happy vibes ad good moods
like when you’re dancing and festivals. Her appearance and the genre of the magazine
contradicts her facial expression. It does follow the conventions to a certain extent however
there should be some changes to the magazine genre but some elements like the name of
masthead and costumes make the music style appropriate.
5. Front cover:
The front cover of my magazine has a
background of bright yellow to attract the
subject to our magazine. The yellow
represent happiness and life, so it
insinuates the style of dance does the
same.
As well as the bold outlines of the
mastheads. My masthead is all in capital
letters and has no lower case as well as in
black font, with a spatter around it to
shade the letters. This particular font was
downloaded from 1001 fonts; I chose it
due to its bold features and has a unique
print that suits the style of music.
The date is under the masthead in quite
big letters to stand out.
The strapline is above the masthead to
draw more attention to it as well as the
first line is in Capitals and advertises free
music to get people’s attention.
There are different colours used I chose to
have her name in Red just it stands out
against the yellow and rest of the font.
The Mise-en-scene in the picture she’s
wearing a bright yellow crop top,
therefore I wanted the background to
match and compliment her clothing.
She’s wearing a black baseball jacket
with short sleeves, and blue ripped
jeans, in the non-cropped version of this
image. Her makeup is minimal but
detailed, she has clear completion and
dark purple lips to contract with her
bright clothing. As well as her lips being
her main feature on her face, with big
bouncy curly hair.
The red compliments the yellow it
stands out more. My magazine title is
“Upbeat” this is to connote the style of
my music and that it’s happy and lively.
The title is self-explanatory for the
genre of music it would be; as well as it
being a music magazine due to the
name, a very descriptive word. I got
inspiration from the magazine “vibe”
and tried to copy a similar name for my
magazine.
6. Layout of front cover:
• Strapline above
masthead at the top
• There are cover lines
all over and her
name is centre and
large
• Masthead at the top
of the page like
normally
• Barcode is at the
bottom
• The date is under the
masthead but still
bod and visible
7. •The written content :
• On the first page is minimum. On my magazine I used catchy quotes and brief
information to draw the reader in. However it’s not a lot of information just
minor snippets to catchy the audience’s attention.
• As well as the front cover image it has to be bold and attractive as “sex sells”
there her midriff and low cut top will help sell covers.
• As well as the cover lines they have to relate to the article on the double page
spread; it has to have something personal and gossip for people to be interested
in you and your live and to buy “Upbeat”.
8. The contents page is in bold and
black and stands out against the
yellow background
This white box is advertising
clothing brands, in different
bright colours
There are 4 different boxes 2 are
white and 2 are yellow
There are 3 headings: feature, review
and exclusive they are all in bright
orange and same style font that is easy
to read
She's wearing bright clothes
advertising the brand
The picture is colourful and bright taken at wireless festival
Layout of Contents page:
9. Contents page:
• My contents page is separated in boxes so nothing is touching. I choose for the
layout to keep everything separate.
• There are 2 images of on wireless festival to show people what they should
expect and build up a buzz of excitement. And the other picture I Chey in her
“skrrr” jacket again being advertised.
• The words contents are in plain bold letters so it’s clear to read, as well as
brightly orange labelled sub headings for all the information in the contents
section.
• I have used numbers to bullet point all the different sub genres in the
magazine. Each bullet point is short and brief and tells you page to go to in the
magazine.
• My contents page lists the conventional items a magazine needs. It also has
one main person as an image and the title contents is clearly displayed and
bold at the top.
10. Double page spread:
In my magazine challenges the forms and conventions
of music magazines. Due to not changing my
background as one of my images, and keeping the
yellow background throughout my article.
I chose not to change my image to make my cover more
authentic and real rather than editing it in to a separate
background. The image is important but the costumes
and props aren’t supposed to distract people from the
article or cover lines, or draw attention away from the
articles. I have chosen not to use any props in my
magazine because I think it too fussy and will draw
attention away from my article. My genre doesn’t
require a prop necessary; whereas if you did grime you
might want jewellery exc…
The manner in which the magazine shows its music
genre depends on what genre it is. For dance magazine
it’s shown by bright colours and summer advertisement
for festivals as that’s her audience she would perform
to.
