This document describes Sonar's filter, which can separate the sine and cosine components from a signal of the form Vi = A sin ωt + B cos ωt using only a resistor and capacitor.
Sonar's lowpass filter outputs A sin ωt by configuring an RC lowpass filter with R = B/A and C = 1/ω. Sonar's highpass filter outputs B cos ωt using an RC highpass filter with the same component values. Simulation results show the filters correctly separating the sine and cosine waves. By varying the RC configuration, this simple filter can extract different frequency components from a composite signal.
