This document analyzes and compares the digipak designs of albums by Arctic Monkeys, Jake Bugg, and Sia. For the Arctic Monkeys album AM, the digipak uses a black and white color scheme and waveform images to symbolically represent the band and be recognizable to fans. For Jake Bugg's album Shangri La, the simple images portray independence as the artist is alone with his guitar, reflecting his indie genre. Sia's album 1000 Forms of Fear uses a faded color scheme and shaky handwritten font to represent fear and something hiding behind the white lines of the CD design. The target audiences are generally adolescents and teenagers who can relate to the artists and music.
3. Layout & Images/Visuals
– the schematic
arrangement of the
digipack gives it an
aesthetic concept,
it symbolic for the
audience, so they will be
able to recognise any of
the subjects that have a
waveform, belongs to
Arctic Monkeys.
Colour Scheme – Black
and white mainly which
is a very clear choice
that causes no
confusion
CD Design - is pretty
basic but the
symmetry makes it
looks aesthetic which
matches with the front
cover of the digipack,
giving it a continuous
phrase.
Target audience – Adolescents and teenagers
mainly because kids or elderlies may not
understand the meaning behind the
waveforms, but adolescents would be able to
recognise the artist and can possibly relate to
the songs’ lyrics more.

5. Layout – Is quite different if we
compare it to some other
digipack as the name of the
album is not included on the
front cover and the legal
information is on the CD. These
make the digipack unique and
interesting, making people want
to explore and find out.
Visuals/Images and Colour
Scheme – The pictures included in
the digipack are quite simple,
giving it a basic look. The images
also represent independence
because he is shown alone with
his guitar and this highlight the
indie genre, small and
independent.
Shangri La means an earthly heaven, especially when involving a retreat from the
pressures of modern civilisation. Bugg could have used this name to show his style is
changing for good in order to meet the demands that are evolving through the
society’s perception of music. Tones of yellow which compliment this idea, are
associated with the expression of thoughts and the intellectual side of the mind. It
can therefore aid the powers of memory and clear thinking, decision-making and
good judgement.
CD Design - By putting the
name of the album on the
CD, Bugg is almost
suggesting that ‘I represent
to you the music source
(CD) of the changed
patterns I am going through
to meet the demands of
yours’ since it is a big step
up from being an indie artist
from evolving into a genre
that is well known by
everyone, such as pop or
R&B.
Target audience - We can say
the adolescents and teenagers
– they can relate to the artist
more because he is also young
- as they are usually the ones
who keep up with listening to
new tracks (since Bugg is
putting a new production ‘out
there’) and following their
favourite artists.
6. 1000 FORMS OF FEAR (2013)
Front cover CD Back cover
Track Listing
Legal informationArtist’s name
7. Layout and Colour
scheme – it suits the
context of the album by
being faded and
which is associated with
‘fear’ as also the
name mentions.
CD Design - Shaky hand written font is used
to represent fear and the design gives you a
sense of something behind the white lines is
hiding.
Visuals/Images – Looking at the front cover, biggest
common fear is known as the dark and wig represents
her identity. This image may also be seen as if the
artist is scared of herself that she hides herself in the
dark The wig can be examined in two different ways,
the fact that it is blonde and light can represent her as
a good person showing her purity above all the fear,
however, because there is a wig used this may
interpret the idea of her being fake, hiding her
identity.
Target audience – Mostly
adolescents or teenagers
because the artist, by
covering her face, may also
indicate depression which a
lot of us at these ages can
go through so we will be
able to relate to her more.
