This document provides ideas and plans for promoting a music album and music video. It discusses ideas for the album cover, CD, DVD, and music video. The album cover would be simplistic with a black and white color scheme. The music video would tell a narrative story and include shots of the band performing, following a theme of anger after a breakup. It also outlines plans for costumes, locations, and target audience. The promotional package would be cohesive across formats to effectively promote the artist and album.
2. CD cover –
I like the simplicity of the Arctic
Monkeys album covers, and the
black and white colour scheme.
The Album covers represent the
genre of music that the band
Produces, which is indie/rock.
I would like my CD cover to also be
simplistic yet artistic, and represent
the genre of music shown in the video.
• One main focus on album
cover
• Black and white
• Burst of colour
• Bold and clear font
CD ideas-

Music video ideas-
A few ideas I found in other music
videos that I would like to use if I made
a indie/rock music video include the
use of shadows which fits well with the
black and white theme, for an edgy
look that creates mystery. A few videos
I like include travelling of some sort,
which shows sense of adventure and
adds to the excitement of the video.
3. MY MUSIC VIDEO
COSTUME:
The outfits worn throughout the
music video will be casual and
not too dressy, unless necessary
for the situation. These outfits
will follow the colour scheme of
mostly black and white and will
add to the
edgy/grunge/alternative feel of
the music video.
Outfits play a big role in
representing a character so these
will have to be picked
appropriately. Outfits will change
in different scenes.
SONG IDEAS:
• Dressed to kill – The
Virginmarys
• I bet you look good on the
dancefloor – Arctic Monkeys
• Naïve – The Kooks
• Gold – Chet Faker
I would like my music video to
include a mixture of features. I
would like my music video to
follow a narrative or story that
the audience can understand or
engage with, and I would also
like shots of the band playing
the song to be included in the
video. If the audience can see
the music being played and an
interpretation of the song, it
will be more likely that they are
more able to connect with the
song and find it more engaging.
For example, the Arctic
Monkeys and The Kooks have
multiple songs that include a
narrative and show the song
being performed. Depending
on the song, the narrative
usually covers a sensitive issue
of some sort. An interesting
and engaging video ensures
the audience watches the
entire video. ‘When the sun
goes down’ by the Arctic
Monkeys is a good example of
a music video following an
interesting story.
Even though the video
does not include footage
of the band playing,
which is what they do
show in the music video
for ‘I bet you look good
on the dance floor’. In
my music video I would
like to combine ideas
from the two videos.
LOCATION:
There will be multiple locations for
the music video, as there will be
different lines of action. One of the
locations may be the studio where
we would film the band. Another
location for filming may be another
venue, like a bar or someone's
house, depending on what happens
in the narrative.
4. My song idea: Just a ride – The
Virginmarys
COLOUR SCHEME
Taking inspiration from
previous albums in the
indie/rock genre that I
have looked at, there
was a continuous theme
of using black and white,
or a dark colour scheme.
The dark colours add
sophistication and also
adds to the edgy style
that represents the
genre of music I am
using.
FONTS
To give the cover a
sleek and professional
look I wanted to use a
bold, clear font that is
easy to read. On the
cover, the logo for the
band has a paint stroke
effect, so I wanted to
use a neat font that
contrasted against the
style of the logo. The
writing frames the logo
like the border does.
The music video would include both the band
performing the song, and give a story to the
song. The narrative would include one of the
band members, and show the audience that
his past relationship didn’t work out.
The band would play in the studio, but they
would also play in various parts of a city, as his
ex-girlfriend and the man she is now with walk
past, as she is oblivious he is still emotional
about the break up. The main emotion in this
song is anger which fits with the genre of rock
music, and the video would also be fast paced
to portray this to the audience.
This is a draft design for the album
cover. I used the image of the crashing
waves to represent the emotion and
anger in the song and then the sleek
black design of the border to match the
logo and add sophistication.
• Target audience –
young adults of both
sexes
• Props – Band
instruments
• Actors – Band
members, ex-
girlfriend and new
boyfriend
5. ALBUM DVD
The promotional DVD will be a different way
for the fans and viewers to interact and
connect with the band. Rather than just
listening to the music the band produces,
the DVD will include various footage from
some of the bands biggest tours. Live
performance videos including many of the
bands biggest tracks will be featured on the
DVD, as well as footage of the band
backstage, giving the viewer a more
personal insight on the band and the
members themselves. The cover on the
DVD case will feature the same studio, black
and white image as the magazine
advertisement so that photo of the band
will become recognisable and well known.
This will be one of the bands first albums,
which means that it will feature the
popular songs that have already been
released as singles/ people have already
heard of. On the list of songs on the back,
these well known songs will be at the top
so they will be the first thing the buyer sees
if they pick it up, so they will buy it and
listen to the rest of the songs on the
album. The album will be named after one
of their first songs, which will also be more
known by the audience/fans, “Just a ride”.
The image on the front of the album will
also be printed on the bands merchandise,
so it will become associated with the band.
6. Inside – On the inside of the CD I
would like to have photos from
the band touring. For example, a
photo of the band on stage or a
photo of their audience. This will
show the buyer of the CD that
they perform well live/ other
people enjoying their music.
CD – On the actual CD I would use
a simplistic design. I would have a
plain black CD with the bands
name and the title of their album
in white writing around the CD.
On the digipak behind the CD I
would put the photo of the sea
that is used on the bands CD
album which would contrast with
the sleek CD design.
Here I would use another photo
of the band, this time in a studio,
which would show the more
professional side of the band,
maybe a photo of them in the
process of creating the music.
This side of the digipak would
include a small print of the lyrics
to a number of their songs. This
interests the buyer and gives a
way for them to connect to the
songs as they will know the lyrics
fully.
Back – On the back of the digipak
I would have the list of songs that
are included on the CD. The
background would be black or
grey with contrasting text to
follow the colour scheme.
Front – The front of the digipak
would have the same cover that I
designed for the album cover.
This would match the side inside
the digipak that has the CD on it.
This way the design would
become well known across all the
bands products and
merchandise.

7. MAGAZINE ADVERTISEMENT
Band Name
Reviews of CD/ 5 Star ratings
Photo of band
Band logo
This is a draft for a magazine advertisement, selling
the bands new album. A magazine advertisement
creates another entry point for the audience and
provides synergy, making the band more well known.
The main focus of the advertisement would be the
photo of the band, used as a background. The image
will be shot in a studio on a white background, so text
placed on top is easy and clear to read. Light will be
shone on the band members at an angle, creating a
visible shadow behind them. The use of studio
lighting will make the band look professional and
important, yet with the edit to make the photo black
and white, this will make the shadows look edgy. This
way the image will represent the genre of music the
band produces and also continues the colour
scheme. The font used will also be the same as on
the album cover, as it will stand out against the white
background. I will be using a long shot with an eyeline
match, so the audience gets a full view of the band
yet the advertisement feels personal and connected
to the reader. The band members will be wearing
simple, yet stylish clothing. This will include skinny
jeans, t-shirts and leather jackets, giving the band a
laidback look that doesn’t look too careless or casual.
