4. GREEN DAY – WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS
The album cover and magazine advert are very similar for Green Day. The
image used is the same but a different lighting has been adopted, with the
album cover being darker than the magazine advert. This is significant and
looks worse in my opinion. The fonts for both are the same but different
colour for album name on the advert. Also, the font size has increased for
the magazine advert, therefore being more eye-catching and stands out.
The album cover for Green Day is boring in my opinion, and I believe that it
could be improved with the addition of barcodes, label names like the
previous album covers I have analysed.
The introduction of new singles is a massive advantage in the success of
Green Day’s magazine advert and this is a convention of normal magazine
adverts. I will therefore be including this when creating my magazine
advert. I also believe that the inclusion of facts about the album is an
advantage to the success and I will also be including facts like this when
creating my advert.
5. OLLY MURS – RIGHT PLACE RIGHT TIME
Again, the album cover and the magazine advert are both similar for
Olly Murs. The background colours are both the same shade of blue
and he is wearing the same clothes, suggesting that these two photos
are either the same or taken on the same day. However the lighting in
his face is slightly different, with the magazine advert being darker and
his face is more red. The fonts used are both the same in the two
documents but there are significant differences between the two. In
the album cover, the name of the artist and the name of the album are
both the same colour but different size whereas the name of the artist
in the advert is a red shade but the colour for the album name is black,
the same as the album cover. Also in the album cover has a repeated
words of ‘Right place right time’ situated all around Murs’ body in a
shade of white but this does not occur in the magazine advert. The
magazine advery features his number one single Troublemaker and his
own website. This is a normal convention of a magazine advert and I
will be including this when creating my own.
6. JESSIE J – WHO YOU ARE
The production company of Jessie J’s album have used the same
picture for her magazine advert. This is very beneficial for me and
I can therefore use the same picture to keep to the conventions of
specific genres. The only colours used in both the digipak and the
magazine advert are: black, white and gold. This is important as
for many videos, they include simple techniques that are not too
over complicated. The audience can either feel confused or
delighted to have multiple colours. The editors have included the
name of the album, latest song that has been in the international
charts, the website of the artist as well as the production
company and record label. When creating my digipak I will be
including all of these features and feel that it’ll look professional if
I do achieve this. The font style, size and colours used are all the
same, apart from the information about the debut album and
international record included. This is more of the important
information and shouldn’t be in the same graffiti style font used
on the title of the artist and album.
