3. FRONT COVERThe front cover instantly reflects the genre of the album. The Script are an alternative/indie
pop boy band. The alternative/indie part is instantly recognisable by the lack of direct mode
of address and colour scheme.
In terms of framing the entire shot is a medium shot with medium-close up of the lead singer
as he is at the front of the boy band. This use of framing helps identify Danny O’Donoghue as
the lead singer. The simplicity of the shot helps draw the audience to the band members and
gives us a clearer look at their visual style. Each member shares the same style with black
clothing and pretty normal haircuts. This visual style helps show them as ordinary people .
The setting of them being outside is a common theme within the indie genre as it helps show
the artist as an explorer of the world.
The image has a sepia filter effect with colours being dark and yellowy. This could possibly
be a reflection of their music which is quite emotional so they don’t want
a fresh happy looking cover. They use synergy with the font of the
artist title ‘The Script’ which is the exact same as other albums. It
is their logo. It helps identify the band before the audience has seen
anything else.
4. BACK COVERThe back over has conventional elements
like the tracklist, although it is placed in
the top right corner in small print which is
slightly unusual., but I think it fits in with
the genre of the script being quite arty so
they focus on the art of the digipak. There
is a lot of blank space for the image which
is a close-up of two hands pressed against
each other, possibly related to the album
title of science and faith with one hand
being science and the other being faith.
This also strengthens their arty theme.
Conventionally it follows the same colour
scheme with the sepia filter and dark
yellowy colours. This helps keep a strong
theme throughout the digipak and gives
the album a visual style. Other
conventional features is the barcode
located at the bottom with copy right
information and the record label being
5. INSIDE COVER/CDThe CD itself has the structure of an atom covering the
entire cd. The CD is fully black with the structure of the
atom being an amber yellow, following the sepia filter
effect colour scheme. Within the atom structure there
is the star of David, I’m not entirely sure if this is on
purpose but it relates to the album being called
‘Science and Faith’.
The inside cover follows the same style as the back
cover, with a lot of blank space and a close up of two
hands, although this time the hands are connecting.
The repetition of the image gives the Script a strong
visual style.
The colour scheme matches all parts of the digipak,
giving the entire package the alternative/indie style,
helping engage with the target audience.
Again, there is idea of the image relating to the title as
one hand is female and the other male relating to the
science and faith album title, showing to opposites
6. MY PRODUCTION
Analysing this Digipak has helped me
understand the conventions of a digipak
and what kind of style it should be
throughout the entire thing to display a
genre and engage with the target audience.
