2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the goal of complete
development cannot be achieved until the challenges related to the
agriculture sector are eliminated.
The Prime Minister observed that private innovation and investment are
keeping a distance from this sector which leads to low participation of
India’s youth in the agricultural sector compared to the other sectors.
Addressing the post budget webinar on Agriculture and Cooperatives
on Friday, Mr Modi highlighted that various announcements have been
made in this year's budget to fill this lacuna.
He urged the youth to work towards delivering the right advice at the
right time while creating a bridge of information between the
government and the farmer about their innovations and also assisting in
policy making.
The Prime Minister also touched upon using drones for crop
approximation while providing real-time information about weather

The first G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meet
deliberated on international financial architecture, sustainable
finance and infrastructure in Bengaluru on Friday, during the first
session.
This session was jointly steered by Union Finance Minister Nirmala
Sitharaman and Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das.
The Finance Minister invited the views of the G20 delegation on
how multilateral development banks can be strengthened to
address the shared global challenges of the 21st century.
She highlighted rising debt vulnerabilities in many countries and
sought the views of members on multilateral coordination.
She also spoke on India’s priority of financing the cities of
tomorrow.

4. All-India Taekwondo Championship marking 50 years
India Korea relations begins in Delhi
Sports Secretary Sujata Chaturvedi on Friday inaugurated the
three-day All-India Taekwondo Championship in New Delhi.
The championship is being organised to commemorate the
50th year of diplomatic ties between Korea and India and to
revitalize Taekwondo that has been stagnant since the
pandemic, and to lay the foundation for the future as a major
sports event between the two countries.
The Sports Authority of India is co-hosting the event with
Korean Cultural Centre India and Korea National Sports
University.
Speaking on the occasion, the Sports Secretary expressed hope
that this sporting event will further strengthen the ties between
the two countries.

5. Guyana Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo calls
on President Droupadi Murmu
Vice President of Guyana Dr Bharrat Jagdeo on Friday called on the
President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Welcoming Dr
Jagdeo to Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President said that India attaches
very high importance to its relations with Guyana as it has been a
homeland to Indian brothers and sisters for the last 180 years.
She said, even though India and Guyana are separated geographically
by a large distance but both have many aspects in common such as
colonial past, predominantly agricultural and rural-based economies,
and multicultural societies. President Murmu noted that trade between
India and Guyana is on an upward trajectory and in 2021-22, despite
the pandemic the bilateral trade witnessed a growth of over 300

6. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has specified a
comprehensive group standard for millets under Food Safety and
Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Second
Amendment Regulations, 2023.
Union Health Ministry in a statement said that it will be enforced from
1st of September this year. Currently, individual standards for only a few
millets like sorghum (jowar), whole and decorticated pearl millet grain
(bajra), finger millet (ragi) and amaranth are prescribed.
The Authority has now framed a comprehensive group standard for 15
types of millets specifying eight quality parameters to ensure availability
of good quality millets in domestic and global markets.
The group standard is applicable to the millets including Buckwheat
(Kuttu), Kodo Millet (Kodo), Little Millet (Kutki), Brown top (Korale) and
Job's tears (Adlay).

says Union Minister Piyush Goyal
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has
said India will be the pillar of the global economic revival as it
exhibited steady growth and emerged as the fastest-growing
country among large economies of the world.
Mr. Goyal was participating in programs organized by industry
groups in Bhilwara of Rajasthan on Thursday.
The Minister said, India is already the fifth largest economy in the
world and is advancing rapidly to become the third largest in the
coming years.

9. Defence Secretary Aramane Giridhar has been given
extension in service till October next year.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved
his extension in service as Secretary, Department of Defence,
beyond the age of superannuation for a period upto 31st of
October, 2024.

Bank, praising his background in business in his native India and

11. UNGA passes resolution calling for immediate
end to hostilities between Ukraine and Russia
United Nations General Assembly has passed a resolution on
the need to reach comprehensive, just and lasting peace in
Ukraine.
The resolution calls for Russia to end hostilities and withdraw its
forces from Ukraine. 141 members voted in favour of the
resolution while seven members opposed it.
32 members including India abstained from voting. Foreign
ministers and diplomats from more than 75 countries addressed
the assembly during two days of debate, with many urging
support for the resolution that upholds Ukraine’s territorial
integrity.

12. US winter storm pounds Northern Plains and
Upper Midwest
U.S winter storm has pounded the Northern Plains and
Upper Midwest.
More than 9 lakh people lost power in several parts of
the United States.
More than 2,000 flights were cancelled and another
15,000 delayed due to the bad weather. According to
the National Weather Service, there could be another
18 inches of snowfall, winds of up to 50 miles per hour
and wind chills as low as minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit
all day long across a significant portion of the northern
United States, from Washington state to New England.

13. Prime Minister Hasina honours
Dr. Mahendra Mishra with the International Mother
Language Award in Dhaka
Indian educationist and social worker for the promotion of
indigenous languages in Odisha Dr. Mahendra Kumr Mishra was
conferred the International Mother Language Award by Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Dr. Mishra is the first India to receive this award. Dr. Mishra has
worked over three decades on the language, culture and education
of the marginalised languages of Odisha.
The award instituted in 2021 by UNESCO is given in recognition of
the extraordinary contribution to the preservation, revitalization and
development of mother languages.
Prime Minister Hasina conferred the two national awards and two
international awards to four recipients in Dhaka.
Bangladeshi nationals Habibur Rahman and Ranjit Singha were given
the national awards, while Mahendra Kumar Mishra and Mother
Language Lovers of World Society, Vancouver, Canada were
conferred with the international awar
