2. India Refutes US Comment On Citizenship Amendment Act;
Says, It Is An Internal Matter Of India
External Affairs Ministry on Friday (15th March 2024) said the
Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, CAA is an internal matter of
India and is in keeping with India’s inclusive traditions and long-
standing commitment to human rights.
Addressing media in New Delhi, Ministry spokesperson Randhir
Jaiswal said the Act grants a safe haven to persecuted minorities
belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian
communities from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh who
have entered India on or before 31st December 2014.
He stressed that CAA is about giving citizenship, and not about
taking away citizenship. He added that it addresses the issue of
statelessness, provides human dignity and supports human
rights.

3. Union government has rolled out an e-vehicle policy to encourage
and boost domestic manufacturing of e-vehicles.
The policy is aimed at attracting investments in e-vehicle space.
The policy will allow Indian consumers access to latest technology
while ensuring Make in India initiative.
By promoting healthy competition among EV players, the policy
aims to enhance volume of production and economies of scale. It
also aims to reduce imports of crude Oil, lower trade deficit and
reduce air pollution.
While the companies will be required to make a minimum
investment of 4,150 Crore Rupees, no cap has been set on maximum
Investment.

4. Centre Launches Alternate Auto Fuel
Ethanol100
Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri
on Friday (15th March 2024) launched Ethanol100, an
alternate auto fuel in New Delhi.
Mr Puri said that the green fuels like ethanol100, which the
Modi government has laid special focus on, will play a key
role in sustaining the economic growth of the country.
Ethanol100, a cleaner and greener alternative to gasoline,
is a blend of 92 to 94 percent ethanol, 4 to 5 percent motor
spirit to provide colour to flame and 1.5 percent Co-solvent
higher saturated alcohol.
The fuel produces lower emissions of greenhouse gases, a
reduction by around 63% on well to wheel basis.

5. Defence Ministry Signs Contract Worth Over Rs 2,890 Crore With
HAL For MLU Of 25 Dornier Aircraft
Defence Ministry signed contract on Friday (15th March 2024)
worth over two thousand 890 crore rupees with Hindustan
Aeronautics Limited for Mid Life Upgrade MLU of 25 Dornier
Aircraft of Indian Navy in New Delhi.
The MLU for Dornier Aircraft includes an upgrade to
incorporate state-of-the art Avionics Systems and Primary Role
sensors.
The upgrade would significantly enhance the operational
capability of the Dornier aircraft to perform Primary Roles of
Maritime Surveillance, Coastal Surveillance, Electronic
Intelligence and development of Maritime Domain Awareness.

7. Govt Unveils New Financial Upgradation Plan
For Over 2.56 Lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks
Union Minister of Communications Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday
(15th March 2024) unveiled a new financial upgradation plan for
over 2.56 lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDSs) in the Department of
Posts.
The scheme offers three upgrades at 12, 24, and 36 years of
service, boosting annual income by four Thousand 320 Rupees,
five Thousand 520 Rupees and seven Thousand 200 Rupees.
This is in addition to the existing compensation like the Time
Related Continuity Allowance TRCA.

8. Government has notified the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024 to
comprehensively improve the film certification process.
Information and Broadcasting Ministry said the Rules have been
comprehensively overhauled in order to improve and contemporize the
entire process of certification of films for public exhibition.
The Indian film industry is one of the biggest and most globalised
industries in the world producing more than three thousand films annually
in more than 40 languages.
These new rules aim to streamline and modernize the film certification
process for the digital age, keeping pace with the emerging technologies
and advancement in film sector.
The key aspects include reduction in time-lines for the processing of film
certification and adopting complete digital processes for eliminating all
transactional time.

Govt Notifies Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024
9. Union Minister of Consumer Affairs Piyush Goyal on Friday (15th
March 2024) inaugurated National Time Protocol (NTP) for
dissemination of Indian Standard Time in Mumbai.
This will provide Uniform and precise time information with
milliseconds accuracy and will also increase the cyber security.
Public can access it via time.nplindia.org or time.nplindia.in.
Mr. Goyal also virtually inaugurated timing infrastructure at
Regional Reference Standard Laboratory (RRSL) at Faridabad and
Ahmedabad.
Talking exclusively to Akashvani, CSIR National Physical
Laboratory’s Head of Indian Standard Time division Dr. Ashish
Agarwal said, India is the first country to implement time
distribution system.

10. Voting Underway In Russia For Three-Day
Presidential Elections
Voting is taking place in Russia for the three-day presidential
elections.
The polling began on Friday (15th March 2024) morning from the
country’s easternmost regions, Chukotka and Kamchatka and it will
close at 11:30 PM Indian Time on Sunday in Kaliningrad — a
Russian exclave bordering Poland and Lithuania.
People across Russia are voting to elect their President for the next
six years.
The candidates who are contesting for the top state post in the
election are Russia’s incumbent President Vladimir Putin, New
People’s Party’s Vladislav Davankov, LDPR party’s Leonid Slutsky and
Communist Party of Russia’s Nikolay Kharitonov.

11. UK Government Unveils New Definition Of
Extremism To Counter Radical Ideology
The UK government has issued a new definition of
extremism under which certain groups will be blocked
from government funding and meeting officials.
The new definition of extremism is more precise and
aims to counter radical ideology.
Extremism in the UK is now defined as the promotion or
advancement of an ideology based on violence, hatred
or intolerance, that aims to negate or destroy the
fundamental rights and freedoms of others or
undermine, overturn or replace the UK’s system of
liberal parliamentary democracy and democratic rights.

12. French President Emmanuel Macron Warns
Allies Against Imposing Limits On Support For
Ukraine
French President Emmanuel Macron has warned allies against
imposing limits on support for Ukraine.
During an interview, Mr. Macron said European security was at stake in
Kyiv’s battle against the Russian invasion.
He said if Russia wins this war, Europe’s credibility will be reduced to
zero and Europe has to keep all options open in case the spread.
The statement comes as president Macron’s visit to Berlin for a summit
on Ukraine.

13. Lakshya Sen To Face Lee Zii Jia In
Quarterfinals Of All England Open C’ships
In Badminton, India’s Lakshya Sen will face Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia in
Men’s Singles quarterfinals of All England Open Championships in
Birmingham tonight.
Commonwealth Games gold medallist Lakshya entered the
quarterfinals beating Denmark’s Anders Antonsen in a hard fought
match last night.
Lakshya, who had finished runner-up at the 2022 edition, fought his
way back from a 2-8 deficit in the decider after losing the second
game to prevail 24-22, 11-21, 21-14.
