Agreement between India and Guyana
Union Cabinet has approved the signing of the Air
Services Agreement between India and Guyana.
The agreement will come into force after the exchange
of diplomatic notes between the parties confirming that
each party has completed the necessary internal
procedure for entry into force of this Agreement.
Indians have a sizeable presence in Guyana and are the
largest ethnic group comprising about 40 per cent of the
population.
The signing of Air Services Agreement with Guyana will
enable a framework for provision of air services between
the two countries.

US President, Joe Biden will meet with the leaders of nine
countries on NATO's eastern flank in Warsaw today to reaffirm
support for their security.
Responding to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statement
against the West, Mr Biden said the West is not plotting to
attack Russia as Mr Putin said.
He said millions of Russian citizens who only want to live in
peace with their neighbours are not the enemy.
Earlier on Tuesday Mr. Biden said that Ukraine will never be a
victory for Russia.

Indian teen Tilottama Sen has won bronze medal in the women’s 10m Air Rifle
at ISSF World Cup at Cairo in Egypt. The 14-year-old Sen won second bronze
for India, fifth overall after ending the top eight ranking round with a score of
262.
She missed out on the gold medal match by the narrowest possible margin of
0.1. Great Britain’s Seonaid Mcintosh won gold and Switzerland’s Olympic
Champion Nina Christen came second to win silver.
The third day of the event was yet another profitable day for India with
Rudrankksh Patil earlier winning gold in the men’s Air Rifle.
India is placed comfortably on top of the medal tally with three golds, with
Hungary, Britain and Slovakia winning the other three awarded. Four more finals
are scheduled in the next couple of days.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research has developed a new wheat
variety which can overcome the challenges arising out due to
changes in weather patterns and rising heat levels.
This new wheat variety called HD-3385 is amenable to early sowing,
escaping the impact of heat spikes and can be harvested before
March end.
Talking to AIR News, ICAR Principal Scientist Rajbir Yadav explained
the merits of this new variety and how the farmers can get good
production by sowing this wheat variety.

10. Bangladesh envoy in Moscow summoned to
protest against blocking entry of Russian ships
The Ambassador of Bangladesh to Russia Kamrul Hasan was
summoned by the Russian Foreign Ministry to protest the
decision of Dhaka to block entry of some Russian ships into
Bangladeshi ports, reports Reuters.
The Russian Foreign Ministry conveyed to the Bangladeshi side
that ‘this step does not correspond to the traditionally friendly
bilateral relations’ and it may ‘adversely affect the prospects for
cooperation in various fields’.

11. Israel's parliament advances contested law for
judicial overhaul
Israel’s Parliament, the Knesset, passed two Bills that seek to
overhaul Israel’s judiciary after garnering a majority of 63 to 47
votes in a 120-member Parliament.
The Bills, proposed by the ruling coalition, increase government
control over judicial appointments and block courts from reviewing
Basic Laws.
The Bills were passed in the first out of three readings, amidst mass
protests which witnessed thousands of Israelis, gathered in the
streets, blocking highways to the capital of Jerusalem.
Both “judicial reform” Bills will now return to the Knesset’s
Constitution, Law, and Justice Committee for discussion and will be
followed by second and third readings, which must be cleared to
ultimately pass the laws.

12. Sri Lanka Consumer Price Inflation declines to
53.2% in January
In Sri Lanka, Inflation under the National Consumer
Price Index declined to 53.2% for the month of January
2023.
The inflation for December 2022 was 59.2 percent.
Food products contributed to 53.6 percent while non
food group contributed 52.9 percent.
The inflationary pressure in comparison from previous
year is linked to the printing of money by the central
bank of Sri Lanka and the resultant devaluation of
Rupee.
The Lankan Rupee devalued over 80 percent in the
forex markets over the last 10 months.

13. Prime Minister Hasina honours
Dr. Mahendra Mishra with the International Mother
Language Award in Dhaka
Indian educationist and social worker for the promotion of
indigenous languages in Odisha Dr. Mahendra Kumr Mishra was
conferred the International Mother Language Award by Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Dr. Mishra is the first India to receive this award. Dr. Mishra has
worked over three decades on the language, culture and education
of the marginalised languages of Odisha.
The award instituted in 2021 by UNESCO is given in recognition of
the extraordinary contribution to the preservation, revitalization and
development of mother languages.
Prime Minister Hasina conferred the two national awards and two
international awards to four recipients in Dhaka.
Bangladeshi nationals Habibur Rahman and Ranjit Singha were given
the national awards, while Mahendra Kumar Mishra and Mother
Language Lovers of World Society, Vancouver, Canada were
conferred with the international awar
