Prime Minister Modi will address the farmers virtually on December 16,
2021, at a valedictory function of an agro-event which will be organized
by the Government of Gujarat.
During the National Summit on Agro and Food Processing, contours of
natural farming will be presented. The three-day National Summit has
kick-started from December 14.
The Union Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Aggarwal while informing about
the event said that the National Agro Summit is the very first initiative
where natural farming is one of the major focus.
He also announced that a committee to set up in the near future to look
into the demands of the protesting farmers will also discuss the
promotion of natural farming.
Prime Minister Modi will virtually address the National Summit on Agro
while the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Chief Minister of Gujarat
Vijay Rupani, and others will be present during the National Summit on
Agro and Food Processing.

3. First TOPS athletes list for 2024 Paris
Olympics
The first list of TOPS athletes for the 2024 Paris Olympics was finalised
during a meeting of the Mission Olympic Cell of the Union Ministry of
Youth Affairs and Sports on December 13, 2021. The list includes 148
athletes including 20 new names from seven Olympic disciplines and six
Paralympic disciplines.
The athletes identified for support under the Target Olympic Podium
belong to different sporting disciples including shooting, weightlifting,
wrestling, sailing, swimming, sailing, cycling and table tennis.
The list also includes Para athletes from para-sports including Athletics,
Badminton, Swimming, Archery, Shooting and Table Tennis.
The list of TOPS athletes from sporting disciplines including Athletics,
Archery, Badminton, Golf, Gymnastics, Judo, Boxing, Rowing, Tennis,
Fennis and Equestrian will be decided in a meeting later this month.
The meeting of the Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) marks the formal
beginning of planning and preparation for the 2024 Olympic Games in
Paris. Around seven athletes have been elevated from the Khelo India
Scheme and are among the new inductees in the TOPS athletes list.

4. Miss Universe 2021 Winner: India’s Harnaaz
Sandhu crowned Miss Universe 2021 after 21
years
Harnaaz Sandhu from India created history by bringing home
the Miss Universe crown after a gap of 21 years after Lara Dutta
had won the prestigious beauty pageant in 2000. Harnzaaz
Sandhu, the 21-years old from Punjab, was representing India at
the 70th Miss Universe 2021 taking place in Israel. Miss Universe
2021 edged out the contestants from South Africa and
Paraguay to claim the Miss Universe Crown.
Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu was presented the crown
by Andrea Meza, former Miss Universe 2000 from Mexico. The
widely popular Miss Universe event was live-streamed globally.

5. Second edition of water innovation
challenges launched to address global water
woes
NITI Aayog, Atal Innovation Mission and Denmark Royal Embassy in India have
together launched the second edition of water innovation challenges on
December 13, 2021 to address the global water woes as a part of the Indo-
Danish Bilateral Green Strategic partnership.
The AIM-ICDK water challenge is being rolled out under the aegis of the
Denmark Embassy in India and the Denmark Technical University (DTU).
Vice chairman NITI Aayog Dr. Rajiv Kumar said while addressing the virtual
event that the collaboration will provide solutions to improve sustainable water
supply in India and at the global level. He asserted that this will aid in catalysing
global cross-sectorial learning environments, innovation and impact on SDGs.
"We need innovation to augment supply, conserve water & rationalize our
water consumption as a regional disparity of water availability is one of the
biggest problems in our country,” he added.
Royal Danish Embassy Ambassador to India, H.E Freddy Svane said, “On the
ground, the climate crisis is first and foremost a water crisis, especially in rural
communities. I hope to see concrete and scalable water tech solutions coming
from our 2022 AIM-ICDK Water Challenge.”

6. Supreme Court allows widening of Char
Dham road
The Supreme Court of India on December 14,
2021, permitted the Central Government for double lane
widening of the roads for the Char Dham Project in the light
of the security concerns.
An oversight committee has also been set up which will be
headed by the former Justice A K Sikri for the direct
reporting of the ambitious project.
The oversight committee set up by the Supreme Court
bench will receive all the support from the Ministry of
Defence, Uttarakhand Government, Ministry of Road
Transport and all the district magistrates.

7. Indonesia Earthquake: 7.6 magnitude
earthquake strikes Eastern Indonesia,
tsunami warning issued
In the latest, an earthquake of magnitude 7.6 on the Richter
scale has struck Indonesia. According to the United States
Geological Survey, the earthquake struck around 100 km
north of the town of Maumere at a depth of 18.5 kilometers
in the Flores Sea.
Reportedly, Indonesia issued a Tsunami warning after the
Earthquake.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center also announced that
hazardous waves are possible for the coasts located within
1000 km of the Earthquake epicenter.

8. India votes against UN Security Council draft
resolution to securitize climate action
India, in a major move, on December 13, 2021,
voted against a UNSC draft resolution that aimed to
securitize climate action.
The UNSC resolution will also undermine the hard-
won consensual agreements in Glasgow. The
explanation to vote against the draft resolution by the
United Nations Security Council was done by India’s
Permanent Representative to the United Nations, T.S.
Tirumurti.
In his speech at the UNSC, he also spoke against
drawing a separate link between climate change and
security.

9. Who is Priyank Panchal? Know all about
batsman who replaced injured Rohit Sharma
in India test squad for SA series
Priyank Panchal has replaced injured vice-captain Rohit Sharma in India's Test
squad for the South Africa tour. Rohit had sustained a left hamstring injury during
his training session in Mumbai on December 13th and has been ruled out of India's
upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa.
This would be Priyank Panchal's second call up into the Indian Test Squad, as he was
a part of India's extended squad as a standby player for the 4-match Test series
against England at home.
Priyank Panchal is one of the best opening batsman in domestic cricket. He has
played over in 100 First-class cricket matches and scored over 7000 runs, which
includes 24 centuries and 25 fifties.
The 31-year-old had also recently played for India A in South Africa.
If he is included in the playing XI, it would be his debut test match as a part of the
Indian senior men's cricket team. He will be the third specialist opener in India's Test
squad for the South Africa tour besides KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal.

10. National Energy Conservation Day 2021
(December 14)
National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated across India every year
on December 14th to raise awareness about energy conservation. The
day is also known as Energy Efficiency Day.
The Union Ministry of Power is celebrating National Energy
Conservation Week under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav from December 8-
14, 2021.
Various programmes have been organised as a part of the celebration
including workshops and discussions on the outcomes of Energy and
Resource Mapping of MSME Clusters.
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) of India, which spearheads the
National Energy Conservation Day celebrations every year, had
implemented the Energy Conservation Act in 2001. The BEE is a
constitutional entity that assists the government in the creation of
energy-saving policies and programmes.
