on Thursday evening in Gurugram, the police said. The

Police constable's service weapon as he intervened in a scuffle,
according to police. Two persons sustained minor injuries in
the incident, the police said. Around 9.40 am, a scuffle broke

New Delhi (Agen-
cies): Edifice Engineer-
ing, the private firm
contracted to demolish
Supertech’s 32-storeyed
twin towers—Apex and
Ceyane—in Noida, has
started covering some
of the floors with piec-
es of white cloth to
ready them.
Officials of the com-
pany said that the
floors are covered be-
forehand as an addi-
tional security layer.
There are about 10
floors in each building
where all columns will
be demolished during
the blast. On the rest of
the floors, several col-
umns will be removed
before the blast.
“We are covering the
floors--also called blast
floors--where all col-
umns are to be demol-
ished for security pur-
poses. All columns on
blast floors will come
down on the same day.
These floors will have
several layers of pro-
tective covering to en-
sure that there is no
flying debris. On sev-
eral other floors, we
will remove columns
and load-bearing walls.
These are non-blast
floors,” said Uttkarsh
Mehta, partner, Edifice
Engineering.
He added that the
ground, first, second
and third floors of both
buildings are blast
floors and will be cov-
ered beforehand. Mov-
ing upwards, one floor
after every two or three
will be designated a
blast floor, depending
on the final blast plan.
Every column and wall
will also be separately
covered with thin steel
sheets and then with
geo-textile fabric to pre-
vent flying debris from
the structure.
Following the test
blast on April 10, offi-
cials of Edifice Engi-
neering and Jet Demoli-
tions are now designing
the details of the actual
blast depending on the
structural details.

In a heated exchange
that has gone viral, an

in Delhi is seen asking
the family of an 11-year-
old boy who died in an
accident to “shut up” as
they protested seeking
action over the incident.
Anurag Bharadwaj
died on Wednesday after
he peeped out of the
school bus window and
his head hit a pole. Later,
angry parents and fami-
ly reached Dayawati
Public School and raised
a protest against the
school authorities for
negligence. A case of
murder has been filed
against the school au-
thorities and the bus
driver and conductor
have been arrested.
“We came to know
that the principal has

there. It was later in-
formed that he had been

said Preeti Bharadwaj,
Anurag’s aunt.
New Delhi (PTI):
Twelve of the 18 major
drains in Delhi are still
discharging untreated
water into the Yamuna,
the National Mission on
Clean Ganga (NMCG)
has told the Delhi Pollu-
tion Control Committee
(DPCC) and the Delhi
Jal Board (DJB).
Eighteen major
drains open into the Ya-
muna in the 22-km Del-
hi stretch of the river
between Wazirabad and
Okhla. Though the
stretch is less than two
per cent of the river’s
length, it accounts for
about 80 per cent of the
pollution in it.
According to a DPCC
report submitted to the
Union Jal Shakti Minis-
try in February, the
DJB had informed the
pollution control body
that 13 out of the 18
drainshadbeentrapped
and no untreated water
from them was flowing
into the Yamuna.
The NMCG, in a let-
ter to the DPCC and the
DJB, said it had sent
survey teams to ascer-
tain the status of the
trapped drains on
March 30 and 31.
“It is reported that
out of the 13 trapped
drains, seven are still
discharging into the
river Yamuna. So, as of
now, 12 drains (seven
trapped and five un-
trapped) are discharg-
ing untreated wastewa-
ter into the Yamuna,”
it said.
The seven drains are
the Khyber Pass Drain,
Civil Military Drain,
Delhi Gate Drain, Drain
No 14, Tughlaqabad
Drain, Kalkaji Drain
and the Sen Nursing
Home Drain.
The NMCG has asked
the DPCC and the DJB
to take action on the
field observation report
and submit an action-
taken report to it.
According to DJB of-
ficials, the 13 drains
have been trapped
through intercepting
sewers, which carry the
untreated waste to
nearby sewage treat-
ment plants. Only treat-
ed water from the STPs
drains into the Yamu-
na, they said.

the region. Two terror-

The encounter started
after security forces

The attack comes

New Delhi: There is go-
ing to be some upheaval
in the politics of Bihar.
Chief Minister Nitish
Kumar recently ex-
pressed his desire to go
to the Rajya Sabha and
then turned against it.
After that it is reported
that they are leaving the
official residence of
Chief Minister and go-
ing to a bungalow at
Seven, Circular Road. It
isbeingsaidthatrenova-
tion work is going on at
CMR. Meanwhile, the
discussionhasalsostart-
ed that a BJP leader will
be seated in BIhar CMR
while Nitish Kumar will
go to Delhi. Earlier there
was talk of him becom-
ing the Vice President,
but BJP will hardly give
him this post. There is
talk of a veteran BJP
leader and Union Minis-
ter becoming the Vice
PresidentandNitishKu-
marcanjointhetopmin-
isters of the Centre in
his place. But this is also
speculation.
On the other hand,
the tone of BJP leaders
has started changing.
State President Sanjay
Jaiswal, who had been
targeting the Nitish Ku-
mar government till
now, has said that Nit-
ish Kumar will remain
our Chief Minister till
the next assembly elec-
tions. The state govern-
ment’s powerful minis-
ter Samrat Chaudhary,
who kept finding faults
in the functioning of
his government, also
said that there is no
question on the leader-
ship of Nitish Kumar.
Thusononesidethere
is discussion of Nitish
moving to Delhi while
on the other hand, BJP
leaders are making
statements considering
him as a leader; which is
actually a contradictory
reality
. But there is also
the possibility of some
change from the contra-
diction. Keep in mind
thatinthebypollheldon

New Delhi: The Con-
gress party had given a
Rajya Sabha ticket to its
former president Ripun
Bora in Assam. It is a
different matter that
the party did not put
much emphasis to en-
sure his victory. The
Congress and ally AI-
UDF combined had 44
votes, while 43 votes
were needed to win the
seat. Despite this, Con-
gress candidate Ripun
Bora got only 35 votes
and lost. For this Bora
is blaming the party,
while in reality it was
also the lack of man-
agement since he too
could not unite the
votes. He had been the
state president and the
party had given him a
Rajya Sabha ticket, so it
was his responsibility
to win the seat. But he
lost the election and
within a week of his de-
feat left the party accus-
ing the party and went
to Trinamool Congress.
Just think, while giv-
ing him ticket in mid-
March, did the party
high command have no
idea that he is in touch
with Trinamool leaders
and he should not be
given tickets? He was in
touch with Sushmita
Deb, who left the party.
But Congress had no
idea. Similarly, Con-
gress did not get any
idea about RPN Singh.
The party made him a
star campaigner in the
Uttar Pradesh elections
and two days after the
release of the list of
star campaigners, he
joined the Bharatiya
Janata Party. It is the
lack of the organisa-
tion general secretary
of the Congress as well
as the state committee
and everyone in charge
that they do not know
anything about their
own leaders. If the top
leaders of the party
just keep their eyes and
ears open, then they
will know in time
which of their leaders

don ship’.

were on Friday turned
away from the examina-

PRESIDENTIAL POLL
IN FARAWAY FRANCE
ijab row is back to
haunt in Karnataka
with two Muslim stu-
dents who reached
their examination
centre in Udupi wearing burqas
being turned back from the cen-
tre. The Karnataka government
has banned hijab in classrooms.
The state high court upheld the
ban. The two class 12 students
wanted to write their exams
wearing burqas but when they
were denied permission, they
returned. However, other Mus-
lim students agreed to take off
the head scarf before entering
their class rooms.
Thousands of miles away in
France, the simple hijab may de-
cide the fate of far-right candi-
date Marie Le Pen who has
promised to ban the covering of
face by Muslim women in public
places.PresidentEmmanuelMa-
cron is against the ban. In their
televised debate before Sunday’s
vote, Macron told Le Pen that her
move will lead France to a “civil
war”. France has the largest
Muslim population in Western
Europe. Wearing of the Islamic
covering is already illegal in
French schools.

ndia couldn’t
have made its pro-
Russia stand
clearer than the
way it did at the
G20 meet on Wednesday
when Finance Minister Nir-
mala Sitharaman did not join
the western bloc in boycott-
ing Russian finance minister
Antony Siluanov’s virtual
address. At least 10 other who
stayed on during the Russian
leader’s speech despite the
US call for boycott included
Indonesia’s finance minister

was chairing the session,
China, Brazil, South Africa
and Saudi Arabia. The boy-
cott led by US treasury secre-
tary Janet Yellen over inva-
sion of Ukraine was backed
by the UK, Canada, Germany
and France among others.
The vertical split in the
group on economic coopera-
tion indicated that the Amer-
ican effort to isolate Russia
over Ukraine only has the
backing of the western bloc,
Japan and UK. If the war
continues, the chasm will
present an awkward sight
when the G20 heads of state
meet at Bali in November.
With India and China on
its side, ousting Russia from
G20, as desired by US Presi-
dent Joe Biden, will be im-
possible. And that has creat-
ed another issue for the G20
Common Framework which
is meant to resolve the prob-
lem of debt incurred by na-
tions during the pandemic.
Debt restructuring of coun-
tries like Sri Lanka, which is
in a deep economic crisis,
may face hurdles. Colombo is
in talks with the IMF for a
bailout package but has been
bluntly told that its $51 bil-
lion loan was unsustainable
and required restructuring.
Lankan crisis is due to
poor management of the
economy and the pandemic.
It is for such situations that a
united G20 is needed.

Mumbai grapples with its un-

it has stood out as a severely
threatened city along the
western coast of India. Why?
The bulk of the coastal zones
around the financial capital
have witnessed the highest
amountof erosionasrevealed
after the Union Environment

statistics on ecological chal-

coastal regions before the Ra-

a large portion of the people,

THE CRZ CONUNDRUM
The Coastal Regulation Zone
(CRZ) notice was issued by
the Ministry of Environment
and Forests in 1991 under the
Environmental Protection
Act, 1986, to regulate activi-
ties in India’s coastal zones.
The legislation has been re-
vised multiple times since
then, most recently with the
CRZ 2019 notification.
As highlighted by Mum-

tion Action Trust, CZMP
maps for Mumbai city and
suburbs produced recently
failed to include all CRZ IA
categories, and there is no
distinction between man-
groves and mudflats.

THREE-PRONGED
APPROACH NEEDED
BEFORE ITS TOO LATE
In view of the increased sea-
level rise projections for 2050,
RMSI has proposed that the
Centre launch a project to cre-

edness throughout the whole
Indian coastline. All locations

This DSS will also help pre-
dict the dangers of heavy
rains and cyclones. In addi-
tion, all rivers and streams
should have their water levels
modelled, and locations at
risk of permanent submer-
gence marked. With this new
reality, inundation mapping
for Mumbai and other cities
in danger from increasing sea

New Delhi: The lead-
ers of Trinamool Con-
gress and Telangana
Rashtra Samithi are
upset and complaining
over two issues. Word is
that some senior lead-
ers of Trinamool have
met Mamata Banerjee
and complained about
Prashant Kishor while
objecting to his meet-
ings with Congress
party leaders. Their
first complaint is that
when Prashant Kishor
has an agreement with
the Trinamool Con-
gress, hence how can he
talk to the Congress
party. Secondly, these
leaders have objected
as to how has he as-
sured the Congress that
he will bring harmony
in West Bengal without
talking to the Trina-
mool Congress.
In fact, Trinamool
Congress wants to fight
alone in West Bengal.
He knows that if the
card of Bengali identi-
ty is played by raising
the issue of making
Mamata Banerjee the
Prime Minister, the
party can win maxi-
mum seats. The party
leaders are also looking
at the possibility of
winning all the seats in
Gujarat like the BJP.
They feel that if there
is a campaign to make
the first Prime Minis-
ter from Bengal, Mamta
can win all the seats. In
such a situation, they
are displeased with
Prashant Kishor’s
claim of reconciliation.
However, Mamta has
not taken these com-
plaints seriously, yet.
She knows that her
agreement is not with
Prashant Kishor, but
with the Indian Politi-
cal Action Committee
(I-PAC). She also knows
that Prashant Kishor
has separated himself
from this company. So,
Trinamool Congress’s
deal with this company
is till 2026 elections but
technically not with
Prashant Kishor and
hence Kishor is free to
do his politics. Yes, she
too has raised an eye-
brow over Kishor’s
claim of coordination
with other parties.
On the other hand,
Prashant Kishor has
also had talks with Tel-
angana Rashtra
Samithi. Recently,
Kishor had gone to Hy-
derabad and he also
met Chief Minister
Chandrashekhar Rao.
Telangana Rashtra
Samithi leaders also
have the same problem
as the Trinamool and
are also not ready to
align with the Con-
gress. Congress leaders
of Telangana have also
objected to this. State
Congress President Re-
vanth Reddy has said
that Congress will fight
the elections on its own
and will make a come-
back.
So, the question is
how Prashant Kishor
will bring a cohesive
coordination between
the Congress and TRS
in Telangana and if he
does, will the BJP not
automatically become
the only opposition par-
ty. There is no confron-
tation in the rest of the
states regarding
Prashant Kishor. Be-
cause the Congress al-
ready has coordination
in the states like Tamil
Nadu, Maharashtra,
Jharkhand etc. But
there is a problem in
West Bengal and Telan-
gana.

India, UK call for ceasefire in Ukraine
Both sides discussed situation in Ukraine, underscoring importance of diplomacy and dialogue
New Delhi (AP): India
and Britain on Friday
called on Russia for an
immediate ceasefire in
Ukraine as British
Prime Minister Boris
Johnson announced
steps to help move New
Delhi away from its de-
pendence on Russia by
expanding economic
and defense ties.
Prime Minister Nar-
endra Modi said that
both sides discussed the
situation in Ukraine,
underscoring the im-
portance of dialogue to
settle issues.
“Both sides also
called for a free, open,
inclusive and rule-
based order in the Indo-
Pacific,’’ Modi said an
apparent reference to
China’s aggressiveness
in the region.
Johnson switched
over to Hindi language
to describe Modi as a
“Khaas-Dost,” or spe-
cial friend, and said,
“Our relations have
never been as strong or
as good between us as
they are now,’’
Johnson said Britain
will issue an Open Gen-
eral Export License to
India, reducing bureau-
cracy and shortening
delivery times for de-
fense procurement.
Johnson also an-
nounced $1.29 billion in
new investments and
export deals in areas

Washingto: A senior
US diplomat again
warned China of
sanctions if it offers
“material support”
for Vladimir Putin’s
war in Ukraine, while
also pledging to help
India end its depend-

she hoped Beijing

BRITAIN SETS UP TASK FORCE AGAINST
PRO-KHALISTAN, OTHER EXTREME GROUPS
New Delhi (ANI): EAM
S Jaishankar on Friday
called on British PM
Boris Johnson here and
discussed bilateral ties
and implementation of
the India-UK Roadmap
2030. “Delighted to call
on UK PM @BorisJohn-

visit. Discussed our ex-
panding partnership and
implementing the #In-
diaUK Roadmap 2030,”
Jaishankar tweeted.
New Delhi (ANI): Pro-
Khalistan and other
extremist groups in the
UK may face heat in the
coming days. British
PM Boris Johnson,
during his visit to India,
announced that the UK
has set up Anti-Extremist
Task Force. “We have a
very strong view that we
don’t tolerate extremist
groups threatening other
countries, threatening
India. We’ve set up an
Anti-Extremist Task
Force,” Boris Johnson
said. Pro-Khalistan
groups have time and
again resorted to violent
protests outside the High
Commission of India.
Recently, UK police also
conducted raids against
pro-Khalistan organisa-
tion in the country.

Hate speech case: SC
directs Delhi Police to
file ‘better affidavit’
New Delhi (PTI): The
Supreme Court on Fri-
day expressed its dis-
pleasure over a Delhi
Police affidavit which
said “no hate speech
was made” during an
event held here by a
right-wing outfit, and
wondered whether the
officer who filed the
document had applied
his mind or merely re-
produced the inquiry
report.
Posing searching
questions, the court
also directed the police
to file a “better affida-
vit” after which Addi-
tional Solicitor General
(ASG) KM Nataraj, ap-
pearing for the Delhi
Police, said they will
have a “re-look” of the
matter and file a fresh
affidavit.
The Delhi Police had
told the top court that
“no specific words
against any community
were uttered” at the
event organised by the
‘Hindu Yuva Vahini’ on
December 19 last.
“The affidavit has
been filed by the Deputy
Commissioner of Po-
lice. We hope he has un-
derstood the nuances.
Has he merely repro-
duced the inquiry re-
port or applied his
mind? Is it your stand
as well or the reproduc-
tion of inquiry report
of sub-inspector level
officer?” a bench of Jus-
tices AM Khanwilkar
and Abhay S Oka asked.
The bench ques-
tioned can such a stand
be taken on an affidavit
before the court and
wanted to know who
verified the affidavit.

RLD endeavours towards new political alignment!
Gyanendra Kumar Shukla
Lucknow: In the re-
cently concluded assem-
bly polls, SP chief Akh-
ilesh Yadav had forged
an alliance with RLD
under the assumption
that Jayant Chaud-
hary’s support would
prove to be a game
changer for his camp’s
victory
. But this experi-
ment of alliance did not
meet the test of success.
Since these election re-
sults, the spontaneity of
the relationship be-
tween Akhilesh Yadav
and Jayant started
showing a decline as
compared to earlier.
In the backdrop of the
developments after the
election defeat, resent-
ment flared up among
many Muslim leaders
associated with the SP.
Strengthening the im-
pression of a concerted
move, Some SP leaders
considered close to
Azam Khan even ten-
dered their resigna-
tions, citing Akhilesh’s
alleged apathy towards
Azam and the Muslim
community
. At a time
when there was visible
turmoil in the SP camp,
its ally RLD chief Jay-
ant Choudhary created
a political stir by meet-
ing jailed MLA Azam
Khan’s wife Tanzeen
Fatima and son Abdul-
lah Khan at their Ram-
pur residence on
Wednesday
. Describing
this important meeting
as a courtesy call, Jay-
ant refrained from
speaking on questions
related to Akhilesh Ya-
dav. But Jayant Chaud-
hary fueled the specula-
tions about the new
alignment by pointing
to the “new political
axis” in UP
. Interesting-
ly, in response to a re-
porter’s question re-
garding this meeting,
Akhilesh Yadav replied
angrily
, “You should ask
Jayant ji. I don’t know. It
is good he met them. But
I didn’t send him.”
Arjun Chaudhary, a
political expert who has
a better understanding
of the politics of west-
ern UP, says that the
RLD chief’s meeting
with Azam Khan’s fam-
ily was not a random
incident. This was a
well thought out step for
future plans. Because
the election challenges
of the year 2024 are now
in the focus of Jayant
Chaudhary and it is
evident from the re-
sults of the recently
concluded elections
that despite getting the
support of SP, the party
could not achieve the
expected results. That’s
why RLD is exploring
new political possibili-
ties. Jayant’s close as-
sociation with ASP
chief Chandrashekhar
Azad is pointing in this
direction. Both of them
recently made a joint
visit to a village in Ra-
jasthan where a Dalit
youth was murdered.
With the unity of Jat-
Dalit and Muslim vot-
ers, an effective political
axis can emerge in west-
ern UP
.
RLD has been trying
to regain its lost
ground in UP for
many years. This time
the party was expect-
ed to perform well in
western UP, but could
win only eight of the
33 assembly seats it
got under the alliance.
However, its vote
share has definitely
increased to about 3
per cent from 1.78
per cent in 2017.
RLD TRYING
TO REGAIN
ITS GROUND
Sitapur (PTI): Shiv-
pal Singh Yadav on
Friday accused his
nephew Akhilesh Ya-
dav's SP of not taking
up the jailed SP lead-
erAzamKhan'scause
and said he would
soon put the matter
before Uttar Pradesh
Chief Minister Yogi
Adityanath.
The Pragatisheel
Samajwadi Party (Lo-
hia) president target-
ed the Samajwadi
Party soon after
meeting Khan at the
district jail here, a
day after he dared
Akhilesh Yadav to
throw him out of the
SP legislature party
if he thought he was
with the ruling BJP
.
When reporters
waiting for the PSPL
leader outside the jail
asked him if he was
with Khan or Akh-
ilesh Yadav, he said, I
am with Azam and
Azam is with me.
Shortly after Shiv-

Imran warns those who ousted
him to rectify their ‘mistake’
Lahore (PTI): In a
veiled warning to Paki-
stan’s military estab-
lishment, former prime
minister Imran Khan
has given an ultimatum
to those who have oust-
ed him to rectify their
“mistake” by holding
early elections or else
his supporters will
reach the capital to
overthrow the “import-
ed government”.
Addressing a rally of
his Pakistan Tehreek-e-
Insaf (PTI) at Minar-i-
Pakistan in Lahore on
Thursday night, Khan
lashed out at the new
coalition government
led by Prime Minister
Shehbaz Sharif and
those who brought it to
power.
In an indirect refer-
ence to the military es-
tablishment, Khan said,
“Those who had com-
mitted this mistake of
ousting my government
should rectify it by hold-
ing fresh elections with-
out any delay
.”
He also asked the peo-
ple of Pakistan to wait
for his call to reach the
capital. “Wait for my
call when I will invite
you to Islamabad. I am
not giving a call just to
the PTI but all Pakistan-
is. I want to make it
clear that I don’t want
confrontation,hesaidin
an hour-long speech.
“The actual party has
just begun, our cam-
paign will intensify [...]
wait for my call. I don’t
want anything else ex-
cept early elections,” he
said. In a veiled attack
on Pakistan’s Army
chief General Qamar
Javed Bajwa, Khan on
Wednesday alleged that
“some elements” in the
powerful establishment
who indulged in “bad
practices” were respon-
sible for his unceremo-
nious ouster from pow-
er. According to experts,
Khan, who was ousted
from power on April 10
after the National As-
sembly passed a no-con-
fidence motion against
him, had apparently lost
the support of the Army
after he refused to en-
dorse the appointment
of the ISI spy agency
chief last year. Finally,
he agreed but it soured
his ties with the Army
.
The Pakistan Army,
which has ruled the
coup-prone country for
more than half of its 73
plus years of existence,
has hitherto wielded
considerable power in
the matters of security
and foreign policy
.
Khan, 69, is the only Pa-
kistani PM to be ousted
in a no-confidence mo-
tion in Parliament. He
was replaced by Sharif,
the Opposition leader
and President of Paki-
stan Muslim League-
Nawaz. Khan asked the
people to pledge that
they would continue
their peaceful struggle
for real democracy and
independence in Paki-
stan till the announce-
ment of fresh elections.

Jammu (PTI): Con-
demning the terror at-
tack, the Jammu and

serious concerns
against the anti-nation-
als that vitiate the at-
mosphere of peace in

ists of Jaish-e-Moham-

also died, on the out-

Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi’s scheduled
visit to Samba district.
Encounter of terror-
ists in Sunjwana area
today is an eye-opener
about the modus oper-
andi of terrorism
spreading its tentacles
in Jammu region. It is
happening when PM’s
visit is just two days
away and it raises seri-
ous concerns, chief
spokesperson of the
party Sunil Sethi told
reporters here.
He alleged that the
area where the encoun-
ter took place was ille-
gally occupied by Roh-
ingaya emigrants and
that they had settled in
Jammu as part of a con-
spiracy .
The local protection
and assistance being
given to the terrorists
needs to be curbed, he
warned.
The conspiracy is
showing its fangs with
increased terror and
hate activities in the
area. Earlier, an at-
tempt was made to engi-
neer communal riots in
Jammu by deliberately
hurting the sentiments
of one community by
an act of vandalism at a
religious place, the BJP
leader said.
PAK NSC DISMISSES KHAN’S CLAIMS OF
‘FOREIGN CONSPIRACY’ TO TOPPLE HIS GOVT
Islamabad (PTI): Pakistan’s National Security Committee

as claimed by former prime minister Imran Khan to
topple his government. “The NSC discussed the telegram
received from the Pakistan Embassy in Washington.
Pakistan’s former ambassador to the US briefed the
committee on the context and content of his telegram,”
the Committee said in a statement released after its
meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The
NSC is the highest forum in Pakistan for coordination on
security issues. The NSC said it examined the “contents
of the communication” shared by the ambassador and
“reaffirmed the decisions” of its last meeting, the Dawn

The initiative was

foreign ministry has an-

In a statement on its

Alongside Harris and

New Delhi (Agen- cies): Edifice Engineer- ing, the private firm contracted to demolish Supertech’s 32-storeyed twin towers—Apex and Ceyane—in Noida, has started covering some of the floors with piec- es of white cloth to ready them. Officials of the com- pany said that the floors are covered be- forehand as an addi- tional security layer. There are about 10 floors in each building where all columns will be demolished during the blast. On the rest of the floors, several col- umns will be removed before the blast. “We are covering the floors--also called blast floors--where all col- umns are to be demol- ished for security pur- poses. All columns on blast floors will come down on the same day. These floors will have several layers of pro- tective covering to en- sure that there is no flying debris. On sev- eral other floors, we will remove columns and load-bearing walls. These are non-blast floors,” said Uttkarsh Mehta, partner, Edifice Engineering. He added that the ground, first, second and third floors of both buildings are blast floors and will be cov- ered beforehand. Mov- ing upwards, one floor after every two or three will be designated a blast floor, depending on the final blast plan. Every column and wall will also be separately covered with thin steel sheets and then with geo-textile fabric to pre- vent flying debris from the structure. Anurag Bharadwaj died on Wednesday after he peeped out of the school bus window and his head hit a pole. Later, angry parents and fami- ly reached Dayawati Public School and raised a protest against the school authorities for negligence. A case of murder has been filed against the school au- thorities and the bus driver and conductor have been arrested. “We came to know that the principal has been taken to Niwari po- lice station which does not fall in the (proper) jurisdiction. When we reached, we saw no one there. It was later in- formed that he had been let go after questioning. Then we sat down on the road to protest the action against them because he died due to negligence,” said Preeti Bharadwaj, Anurag’s aunt. New Delhi (PTI): Twelve of the 18 major drains in Delhi are still discharging untreated water into the Yamuna, the National Mission on Clean Ganga (NMCG) has told the Delhi Pollu- tion Control Committee (DPCC) and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). Eighteen major drains open into the Ya- muna in the 22-km Del- hi stretch of the river between Wazirabad and Okhla. Though the stretch is less than two per cent of the river’s length, it accounts for about 80 per cent of the pollution in it. According to a DPCC report submitted to the Union Jal Shakti Minis- try in February, the DJB had informed the pollution control body that 13 out of the 18 drainshadbeentrapped and no untreated water from them was flowing into the Yamuna. The NMCG, in a let- ter to the DPCC and the DJB, said it had sent survey teams to ascer- tain the status of the trapped drains on March 30 and 31. “It is reported that out of the 13 trapped drains, seven are still discharging into the river Yamuna. So, as of now, 12 drains (seven trapped and five un- trapped) are discharg- ing untreated wastewa- ter into the Yamuna,” it said. The seven drains are the Khyber Pass Drain, Civil Military Drain, Delhi Gate Drain, Drain No 14, Tughlaqabad Drain, Kalkaji Drain and the Sen Nursing Home Drain. The NMCG has asked the DPCC and the DJB to take action on the field observation report and submit an action- taken report to it. According to DJB of- ficials, the 13 drains have been trapped through intercepting sewers, which carry the untreated waste to nearby sewage treat- ment plants. Only treat- ed water from the STPs drains into the Yamu- na, they said. The court made the observation when the counsel representing Khalid was reading the portion where he is re- ported to have said Ma- hatma Gandhi had launchedanon-coopera- tion movement against the British in 1920, and Jamia Millia Islamia University was one of the first educational in- stitutestobeestablished after Gandhi’s call. There is talk of a veteran BJP leader and Union Minis- ter becoming the Vice PresidentandNitishKu- marcanjointhetopmin- isters of the Centre in his place. But this is also speculation. On the other hand, the tone of BJP leaders has started changing. State President Sanjay Jaiswal, who had been targeting the Nitish Ku- mar government till now, has said that Nit- ish Kumar will remain our Chief Minister till the next assembly elec- tions. The state govern- ment’s powerful minis- ter Samrat Chaudhary, who kept finding faults in the functioning of his government, also said that there is no question on the leader- ship of Nitish Kumar. Sharat K Verma New Delhi: The Con- gress party had given a Rajya Sabha ticket to its former president Ripun Bora in Assam. It is a different matter that the party did not put much emphasis to en- sure his victory. The Congress and ally AI- UDF combined had 44 votes, while 43 votes were needed to win the seat. Despite this, Con- gress candidate Ripun Bora got only 35 votes and lost. For this Bora is blaming the party, while in reality it was also the lack of man- agement since he too could not unite the votes. He had been the state president and the party had given him a Rajya Sabha ticket, so it was his responsibility to win the seat. But he lost the election and within a week of his de- feat left the party accus- ing the party and went to Trinamool Congress. Just think, while giv- ing him ticket in mid- March, did the party high command have no idea that he is in touch with Trinamool leaders and he should not be given tickets? He was in touch with Sushmita Deb, who left the party. But Congress had no idea. Similarly, Con- gress did not get any idea about RPN Singh. The party made him a star campaigner in the Uttar Pradesh elections and two days after the release of the list of star campaigners, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. It is the lack of the organisa- tion general secretary of the Congress as well as the state committee and everyone in charge that they do not know anything about their own leaders. If the top leaders of the party just keep their eyes and ears open, then they will know in time which of their leaders are soon going to ‘aban- don ship’. They tried to convince the invigila- tors and the college principal for around 45 minutes but were even- tually not allowed any exception to the court order upholding the state government’s ban. They were then seen quietly leaving the premises without tak- ing the exams. The principal of Vidy- odaya college which was the designated examina- tion centre blamed it on the girls. “We are following the rule. He was seen meet- ing Rabri Devi and Tejashwi Yadav. Nitish Kumar’s meeting with Tejash- wi Yadav has a big message for BJP top leadership – coming it is a day before Un- ion Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the state. TOP TWEETS HIJAB ROW: FROM KARNATAKA SCHOOL PRESIDENTIAL POLL IN FARAWAY FRANCE ijab row is back to haunt in Karnataka with two Muslim stu- dents who reached their examination centre in Udupi wearing burqas being turned back from the cen- tre. The Karnataka government has banned hijab in classrooms. The state high court upheld the ban. The two class 12 students wanted to write their exams wearing burqas but when they were denied permission, they returned. However, other Mus- lim students agreed to take off the head scarf before entering their class rooms. Thousands of miles away in France, the simple hijab may de- cide the fate of far-right candi- date Marie Le Pen who has promised to ban the covering of face by Muslim women in public places.PresidentEmmanuelMa- cron is against the ban. In their televised debate before Sunday’s vote, Macron told Le Pen that her move will lead France to a “civil war”. France has the largest Muslim population in Western Europe. Wearing of the Islamic covering is already illegal in French schools. H ndia couldn’t have made its pro- Russia stand clearer than the way it did at the G20 meet on Wednesday when Finance Minister Nir- mala Sitharaman did not join the western bloc in boycott- ing Russian finance minister Antony Siluanov’s virtual address. At least 10 other who stayed on during the Russian leader’s speech despite the US call for boycott included Indonesia’s finance minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati who was chairing the session, China, Brazil, South Africa and Saudi Arabia. The boy- cott led by US treasury secre- tary Janet Yellen over inva- sion of Ukraine was backed by the UK, Canada, Germany and France among others. The vertical split in the group on economic coopera- tion indicated that the Amer- ican effort to isolate Russia over Ukraine only has the backing of the western bloc, Japan and UK. If the war continues, the chasm will present an awkward sight when the G20 heads of state meet at Bali in November. With India and China on its side, ousting Russia from G20, as desired by US Presi- dent Joe Biden, will be im- possible. And that has creat- ed another issue for the G20 Common Framework which is meant to resolve the prob- lem of debt incurred by na- tions during the pandemic. Debt restructuring of coun- tries like Sri Lanka, which is in a deep economic crisis, may face hurdles. Colombo is in talks with the IMF for a bailout package but has been bluntly told that its $51 bil- lion loan was unsustainable and required restructuring. Lankan crisis is due to poor management of the economy and the pandemic. It is for such situations that a united G20 is needed. RUSSIA’S ISOLATION AT G20 IS DIFFICULT If the war continues, the chasm will present an awkward sight when the G20 heads of state meet at Bali in November. As you sit up and take notice of your beautiful morning turning intoanimminentlyfatalpaint- ing, thingsstartgettingworse. Reads just like one of those movies like ‘2012’, right? How- ever, this is not fiction. As Mumbai grapples with its un- precedentedpopulationburst, it has stood out as a severely threatened city along the western coast of India. Why? The bulk of the coastal zones around the financial capital have witnessed the highest amountof erosionasrevealed after the Union Environment Ministry presented stunning statistics on ecological chal- lenges impacting India’s coastal regions before the Ra- jya Sabha earlier this month. TheNationalCentreforSus- tainableCoastalManagement, Chennai had undertaken shorelinechangestudiesusing satellite data from the past 38 years, identifying locations badly impacted by erosion. In Mumbai, the coastline along the Mahul village towards the eastern suburbs shrunk by 146.16metres(themostforany location across Maharashtra). SHRINKING SPACES BY 2050 IN MUMBAI Taking it a step further, in- creased erosion puts infra- structure in jeopardy, and whenpairedwiththeprospect of risingsealevels, itbecomes much more so. According to a study conducted by Noida- based IT consulting firm RMSI (based on Intergovern- mental Panel on Climate Change reports) for six major coastal cities in India, by 2050, a large portion of the people, property, and infrastructure would be at risk of submer- sion due to rising sea levels. THE CRZ CONUNDRUM The Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) notice was issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forests in 1991 under the Environmental Protection Act, 1986, to regulate activi- ties in India’s coastal zones. The legislation has been re- vised multiple times since then, most recently with the CRZ 2019 notification. As highlighted by Mum- bai-based group Conserva- tion Action Trust, CZMP maps for Mumbai city and suburbs produced recently failed to include all CRZ IA categories, and there is no distinction between man- groves and mudflats. RESTRICT CONSTRUCTION IN MUMBAI’S LOW-LYING AREAS Low-lying locations, in com- parison to high places, would see a direct and immediate impact, according to RMSI’s research. Building in Mum- bai’s low-lying regions should besuspendedimmediately ,ac- cordingtotheMCAP ,launched inMarchthisyear, tolimitthe risk of erosion and sea-level rise. THREE-PRONGED APPROACH NEEDED BEFORE ITS TOO LATE In view of the increased sea- level rise projections for 2050, RMSI has proposed that the Centre launch a project to cre- ateanewshoreline, inundation mapping, and disaster prepar- edness throughout the whole Indian coastline. INDIA NEW DELHI | SATURDAY, APRIL 23, 2022 05 www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epapers/delhi I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia Moni Sharma New Delhi: The lead- ers of Trinamool Con- gress and Telangana Rashtra Samithi are upset and complaining over two issues. Word is that some senior lead- ers of Trinamool have met Mamata Banerjee and complained about Prashant Kishor while objecting to his meet- ings with Congress party leaders. Their first complaint is that when Prashant Kishor has an agreement with the Trinamool Con- gress, hence how can he talk to the Congress party. Secondly, these leaders have objected as to how has he as- sured the Congress that he will bring harmony in West Bengal without talking to the Trina- mool Congress. In fact, Trinamool Congress wants to fight alone in West Bengal. He knows that if the card of Bengali identi- ty is played by raising the issue of making Mamata Banerjee the Prime Minister, the party can win maxi- mum seats. The party leaders are also looking at the possibility of winning all the seats in Gujarat like the BJP. They feel that if there is a campaign to make the first Prime Minis- ter from Bengal, Mamta can win all the seats. In such a situation, they are displeased with Prashant Kishor’s claim of reconciliation. However, Mamta has not taken these com- plaints seriously, yet. She knows that her agreement is not with Prashant Kishor, but with the Indian Politi- cal Action Committee (I-PAC). She also knows that Prashant Kishor has separated himself from this company. So, Trinamool Congress’s deal with this company is till 2026 elections but technically not with Prashant Kishor and hence Kishor is free to do his politics. Yes, she too has raised an eye- brow over Kishor’s claim of coordination with other parties. On the other hand, Prashant Kishor has also had talks with Tel- angana Rashtra Samithi. Recently, Kishor had gone to Hy- derabad and he also met Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao. Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders also have the same problem as the Trinamool and are also not ready to align with the Con- gress. Congress leaders of Telangana have also objected to this. State Congress President Re- vanth Reddy has said that Congress will fight the elections on its own and will make a come- back. So, the question is how Prashant Kishor will bring a cohesive coordination between the Congress and TRS in Telangana and if he does, will the BJP not automatically become the only opposition par- ty. There is no confron- tation in the rest of the states regarding Prashant Kishor. Be- cause the Congress al- ready has coordination in the states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Jharkhand etc. But there is a problem in West Bengal and Telan- gana. TMC TRS upset over PK’s ‘role’ both within outside party lines! Prashant Kishor India, UK call for ceasefire in Ukraine Both sides discussed situation in Ukraine, underscoring importance of diplomacy and dialogue New Delhi (AP): India and Britain on Friday called on Russia for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced steps to help move New Delhi away from its de- pendence on Russia by expanding economic and defense ties. Prime Minister Nar- endra Modi said that both sides discussed the situation in Ukraine, underscoring the im- portance of dialogue to settle issues. “Both sides also called for a free, open, inclusive and rule- based order in the Indo- Pacific,’’ Modi said an apparent reference to China’s aggressiveness in the region. Johnson switched over to Hindi language to describe Modi as a “Khaas-Dost,” or spe- cial friend, and said, “Our relations have never been as strong or as good between us as they are now,’’ Johnson said Britain will issue an Open Gen- eral Export License to India, reducing bureau- cracy and shortening delivery times for de- fense procurement. Johnson also an- nounced $1.29 billion in new investments and export deals in areas from software engineer- ing and artificial intel- ligence to health, creat- ing almost 11,000 jobs across the United King- dom. China wasn’t helping the situation in Ukraine by doing things like amplifying Russian disinformation cam- paigns, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said at an event in Brussels. She said she hoped Beijing will learn the “right lessons” from Rus- sia’s war, including that it can’t separate US from its allies. BRITAIN SETS UP TASK FORCE AGAINST PRO-KHALISTAN, OTHER EXTREME GROUPS New Delhi (ANI): EAM S Jaishankar on Friday called on British PM Boris Johnson here and discussed bilateral ties and implementation of the India-UK Roadmap 2030. “Delighted to call on UK PM @BorisJohn- son during his India visit. Discussed our ex- panding partnership and implementing the #In- diaUK Roadmap 2030,” Jaishankar tweeted. New Delhi (ANI): Pro- Khalistan and other extremist groups in the UK may face heat in the coming days. British PM Boris Johnson, during his visit to India, announced that the UK has set up Anti-Extremist Task Force. “We have a very strong view that we don’t tolerate extremist groups threatening other countries, threatening India. We’ve set up an Anti-Extremist Task Force,” Boris Johnson said. Pro-Khalistan groups have time and again resorted to violent protests outside the High Commission of India. Recently, UK police also conducted raids against pro-Khalistan organisa- tion in the country. ‘NO PRESSURE’ FROM UK OVER RUSSIA: INDIA New Delhi (Agencies): British Prime Minister Boris Johnson put no pressure on his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi over New Delhi’s position on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine when they met on Friday, India’s foreign secretary told reporters. India has not explicitly condemned the invasion by Russia, its biggest supplier of military hardware. Hate speech case: SC directs Delhi Police to file ‘better affidavit’ New Delhi (PTI): The Supreme Court on Fri- day expressed its dis- pleasure over a Delhi Police affidavit which said “no hate speech was made” during an event held here by a right-wing outfit, and wondered whether the officer who filed the document had applied his mind or merely re- produced the inquiry report. Posing searching questions, the court also directed the police to file a “better affida- vit” after which Addi- tional Solicitor General (ASG) KM Nataraj, ap- pearing for the Delhi Police, said they will have a “re-look” of the matter and file a fresh affidavit. The Delhi Police had told the top court that “no specific words against any community were uttered” at the event organised by the ‘Hindu Yuva Vahini’ on December 19 last. “The affidavit has been filed by the Deputy Commissioner of Po- lice. We hope he has un- derstood the nuances. Has he merely repro- duced the inquiry re- port or applied his mind? Is it your stand as well or the reproduc- tion of inquiry report of sub-inspector level officer?” a bench of Jus- tices AM Khanwilkar and Abhay S Oka asked. The bench ques- tioned can such a stand be taken on an affidavit before the court and wanted to know who verified the affidavit. Underlining that trade relations between India and Cambodia are yet to reach to their po- tential, Birla stressed the need for increasing bilateral trade between the two countries. New areas of cooperation need to be explored and tapped, said Birla. He was speaking at ‘Van Samiti Sammelan’, a program where bonus was distributed to col- lectors of forest pro- duce such as Tendu leaves. “This is a gov- ernment of the poor, Scheduled Tribes, dal- its and backward class- es. During Congress government’s time, only Rs 21,000 crore were provided for the welfare of (tribal com- munities) people, but after Modi came to pow- er in 2014, it has been enhanced to Rs 78,000 crore,” Shah said. Guwahati (PTI): A Russian malware plant- ed from a server in Ni- geria was used for a re- cent cyber attack on Oil India’s (OIL) system in Assam’s Duliajan, which had brought down the PSU major’s network, a top police of- ficial said on Friday . The OIL system is yet to be restored complete- ly even after 10 days of the incident, they add- ed. A top police official, who wished not to be named, told PTI that their investigations in- dicated the cyber attack was carried out from overseas. He said, “We have found that a Russian malware was used in it. And someone, individu- al or group, planted it from Nigeria. “We are working out the details and also as- certaining whether it was planned attack or a random one that hit OIL,” the official added. • 8. NEW DELHI | SATURDAY, APRIL 23, 2022 07 NEWS www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epapers/delhi I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia RLD endeavours towards new political alignment! Gyanendra Kumar Shukla Lucknow: In the re- cently concluded assem- bly polls, SP chief Akh- ilesh Yadav had forged an alliance with RLD under the assumption that Jayant Chaud- hary’s support would prove to be a game changer for his camp’s victory . But this experi- ment of alliance did not meet the test of success. Since these election re- sults, the spontaneity of the relationship be- tween Akhilesh Yadav and Jayant started showing a decline as compared to earlier. In the backdrop of the developments after the election defeat, resent- ment flared up among many Muslim leaders associated with the SP. Strengthening the im- pression of a concerted move, Some SP leaders considered close to Azam Khan even ten- dered their resigna- tions, citing Akhilesh’s alleged apathy towards Azam and the Muslim community . At a time when there was visible turmoil in the SP camp, its ally RLD chief Jay- ant Choudhary created a political stir by meet- ing jailed MLA Azam Khan’s wife Tanzeen Fatima and son Abdul- lah Khan at their Ram- pur residence on Wednesday . Describing this important meeting as a courtesy call, Jay- ant refrained from speaking on questions related to Akhilesh Ya- dav. But Jayant Chaud- hary fueled the specula- tions about the new alignment by pointing to the “new political axis” in UP . Interesting- ly, in response to a re- porter’s question re- garding this meeting, Akhilesh Yadav replied angrily , “You should ask Jayant ji. I don’t know. It is good he met them. But I didn’t send him.” Arjun Chaudhary, a political expert who has a better understanding of the politics of west- ern UP, says that the RLD chief’s meeting with Azam Khan’s fam- ily was not a random incident. This was a well thought out step for future plans. Because the election challenges of the year 2024 are now in the focus of Jayant Chaudhary and it is evident from the re- sults of the recently concluded elections that despite getting the support of SP, the party could not achieve the expected results. That’s why RLD is exploring new political possibili- ties. Jayant’s close as- sociation with ASP chief Chandrashekhar Azad is pointing in this direction. Both of them recently made a joint visit to a village in Ra- jasthan where a Dalit youth was murdered. With the unity of Jat- Dalit and Muslim vot- ers, an effective political axis can emerge in west- ern UP . RLD has been trying to regain its lost ground in UP for many years. This time the party was expect- ed to perform well in western UP, but could win only eight of the 33 assembly seats it got under the alliance. However, its vote share has definitely increased to about 3 per cent from 1.78 per cent in 2017. RLD TRYING TO REGAIN ITS GROUND Sitapur (PTI): Shiv- pal Singh Yadav on Friday accused his nephew Akhilesh Ya- dav's SP of not taking up the jailed SP lead- erAzamKhan'scause and said he would soon put the matter before Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lo- hia) president target- ed the Samajwadi Party soon after meeting Khan at the district jail here, a day after he dared Akhilesh Yadav to throw him out of the SP legislature party if he thought he was with the ruling BJP . When reporters waiting for the PSPL leader outside the jail asked him if he was with Khan or Akh- ilesh Yadav, he said, I am with Azam and Azam is with me. Shortly after Shiv- pal Yadav's prison visit, SP MLA Ravi- das Mehrotra and an SP ally, SBSP leader Om Prakash Rajbhar, said they too will meet Khan in jail soon. Yadav won the recent assembly polls on an SP ticket but has signalled his growing closeness to the BJP after the re- sults, even meeting Adityanath once. The senior Yadav said it was unfortu- nate that the SP is not helping or agitating for a founder of its own party . The Azam Khan camp has expressed unhappiness with Akhilesh Yadav, claiming that he has been ignoring the jailed MLA. Shivpal meets Azam Khan in jail, says ‘SP not helping him’ Shahjahanpur (UP) (PTI): A day after bull- dozing an illegal building belonging to Samajwadi Party lead- er Roshanlal Verma's daughter-in-law, the district administra- tion is looking into his properties to check whether they violate rules. The property which was demolished be- longed to Ruchi Ver- ma, who lost her hus- band in 2019. District Magistrate Umesh Paratap Singh said, We have also re- ceived complaints against alleged illegal properties of the for- merlegislator(Roshan- lal Verma). Addressing the gath- ering, Warring said the Congress is a 'soch' (thought) and 'vichar' (ideology) which cannot wither away . Addressing a rally of his Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI) at Minar-i- Pakistan in Lahore on Thursday night, Khan lashed out at the new coalition government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and those who brought it to power. In an indirect refer- ence to the military es- tablishment, Khan said, “Those who had com- mitted this mistake of ousting my government should rectify it by hold- ing fresh elections with- out any delay .” He also asked the peo- ple of Pakistan to wait for his call to reach the capital. “Wait for my call when I will invite you to Islamabad. I am not giving a call just to the PTI but all Pakistan- is. I want to make it clear that I don’t want confrontation, hesaidin an hour-long speech. “The actual party has just begun, our cam- paign will intensify [...] wait for my call. I don’t want anything else ex- cept early elections,” he said. In a veiled attack on Pakistan’s Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Khan on Wednesday alleged that “some elements” in the powerful establishment who indulged in “bad practices” were respon- sible for his unceremo- nious ouster from pow- er. According to experts, Khan, who was ousted from power on April 10 after the National As- sembly passed a no-con- fidence motion against him, had apparently lost the support of the Army after he refused to en- dorse the appointment of the ISI spy agency chief last year. Finally, he agreed but it soured his ties with the Army . The Pakistan Army, which has ruled the coup-prone country for more than half of its 73 plus years of existence, has hitherto wielded considerable power in the matters of security and foreign policy . Khan, 69, is the only Pa- kistani PM to be ousted in a no-confidence mo- tion in Parliament. He was replaced by Sharif, the Opposition leader and President of Paki- stan Muslim League- Nawaz. Khan asked the people to pledge that they would continue their peaceful struggle for real democracy and independence in Paki- stan till the announce- ment of fresh elections. Khan lashes out at the new coalition government led by PM Shehbaz Sharif Jammu (PTI): Con- demning the terror at- tack, the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the BJP on Friday raised serious concerns against the anti-nation- als that vitiate the at- mosphere of peace in Jammu. Encounter of terror- ists in Sunjwana area today is an eye-opener about the modus oper- andi of terrorism spreading its tentacles in Jammu region. It is happening when PM’s visit is just two days away and it raises seri- ous concerns, chief spokesperson of the party Sunil Sethi told reporters here. He alleged that the area where the encoun- ter took place was ille- gally occupied by Roh- ingaya emigrants and that they had settled in Jammu as part of a con- spiracy . The local protection and assistance being given to the terrorists needs to be curbed, he warned. The conspiracy is showing its fangs with increased terror and hate activities in the area. Earlier, an at- tempt was made to engi- neer communal riots in Jammu by deliberately hurting the sentiments of one community by an act of vandalism at a religious place, the BJP leader said.
