Just a day after his
budget speech he was

Bhandari and other
top officials attended
the meeting.
Gehlot gave a loud &
clear message to the bu-
reaucracy regarding
his seriousness on time
bound implementation
of his budget announce-
ments.
During the meet-
ing, Gehlot conveyed
that he wanted ‘Niro-
gi Rajasthan’ drive to
make everyone in the
state aware of health
issues right from chil-
dren to the senior
citizens. He stressed on
the drive by calling it
biggest ever ‘Preventive
Health Campaign” ever
launched by any state
govt., which will not
only make people aware
of health issues but also
motivate them to be fit.
He also directed to start
a dedicated helpline
which will bring health
consultation on the fin-
ger tips of the people.
Gehlot said, “soon
the ANM and Asha
workers will conduct
a health survey which
will let the govern-

He also emphasized
on opening of more
Janta clinics to pro-

their homes with help
of Bhamashahs,
NGOs and MLA lad
fund. CM also reiter-

‘Shuddh Ke Liye Yud-

adulteration. He
stressed upon serious
action against the

sending a strict mes-
sage to others.
Meanwhile, Gehlot
also directed officers
to complete all for-
malities like design &
tender and ensure
that the work on med-

September. The three
time CM expressed
that these medical
colleges will bring
health services closer
to the people.
Serious on com-
plaints regarding ir-
regularities in con-
struction of medical
colleges in Bharatpur
and Churu, Gehlot or-
dered a thorough probe
of the complaints and
zero tolerance for the
defaulters. The meeting
focused on health is-
sues and that too just a
day after the budget
speech has clearly con-
veyed the message that
health of the people of
the state is top priority
for Gehlot government.

WHAT ANNOYS THIS MADAM
What keeps the ‘Madam’ annoyed & up-
rooted? Power gallery is abuzz with this
question. Madam heads the dept dealing with
common as well top shots of power gallery so
there is no dearth of personnel seeking her ap-
pointment. But to everybody’s dismay, Madam
is not available during visiting hours. Not very
long ago the gallery near this department was
teeming with visitors. Now few approach her
office and even they go back disappointed.
OFF THE
RECORD
A BABU CROSSES
LINE IN WHATSAPP
In a daring act, an IAS
officer termed the party
in power, Congress, as
‘Alibaba & 40 Thieves’
party. The bureaucrat
gave the above com-
ment in a IAS Whats
App group. After this
controversial comment
the group went into
complete silence. The
heavily loaded comment
assumes gravity as it has
been done in a Congress
ruled state. It is probably
for the first time that an
IAS has crossed the line.
It is really difficult to un-
derstand as to what made
the bureaucrat come up
with such an explosive
comment. This IAS was
recently transferred from
a important department
to a comparatively less
relevant post. He was
shifted to Revenue dept
from the ever cozy PHED.

REALTY GIANTS KEEN TO
INVEST IN PINKCITY
The face of real estate market in
Jaipur might change forever. Real
estate giants from Delhi & Mumbai are
eyeing the cityscape with a new vision.
The 5 star hotels witnessed many such
meetings where big local investors gave
presentations to metro giants. The senior
executives of Tata real estate company
were present at such meetings. DLF is
already financing some projects. Godrej,
HDIL, India Bulls Real Estate & Oberoi
Reality are also interested to introduce
real estate projects in the city.
NEW AVENUES FOR
CREDAI MEMBERS
Actually a major chunk of CREDAI
members are diversifying in other
business. This might be the reason why the
list of CREDAI members is reducing every
month and that is not all...even the existing
members of this organisation are trying
their hands at other business avenues.
Some have ventured in to education
industry & hospitality sector. Nothing
wrong with diversification except for the
fact that the already cash stripped property
market is further being pushed to corner by
money drain into other business ventures.

First India News
Jaipur: Two former
ministers in Raje gov-
ernment have posed
many questions to chief
minister Ashok Gehlot
asking him to clarify on
corruption in transport
department and alleged
relationship between
transport minister and
agent Jaswant Yadav.
MalviyaNagarMLAKa-
licharan Saraf and for-
mer state BJP president
Arun Chaturvedi who
had lost to transport
minister Pratap Singh
Khachariyawas in As-
sembly election have
sought resignation from
the minister or asked
CM to dismiss him.
Both asked the CM to
disclose mobile num-
bers and conversations
that were taken on sur-
veillance by the ACB.
They claimed that ‘nee-
dle of suspicion’ point-
ing towards the trans-
port minister. They
asked the CM about
links between Khacha-
riyawas and Yadav who
was arrested by ACB.
Another question
was under whose pa-
tronage 40 buses of Ya-
dav’s Gold Line Trans-
port Company had been
plying in city.
They asked on whose
order Mahesh Sharma
was given charge of a
major centre like Jaipur
despite the fact that he
was awaiting posting
order. Transporter who
paid monthly amount
were given special sign
and bus or truck with
that sign was not
stopped by officials.
“Is it possible for an
agent or officer to pass
such order,” they asked.
Who permitted this lib-
erty to transporters?
Who received the
monthly bribe collected
by the agents?
“If vehicles of the
transporters who gave
monthly bribe were not
checked on directives of
agents does it mean of-
ficers were running the
department and not a
minister considered
‘powerful’?” they ques-
tioned.
MANY COPS UNDER SCANNER
AS CBI PROBES INTO NDPS CASE
The CBI has now initiated investigation
in the NDPS action conducted by Jaipur
Commissionerate’s East District police. The
investigation has brought several cops under
the scanner and word is that a few khaki clad
men could be arrested as well! Word is that
the cops tried to ‘fix’ the accused in NDPS Act
by claiming that the arrest was made from
city. However the accused have contested that
their arrest has been shown from the spot
where they were not even present! However,
the entire episode was ‘caught’ by the third eye
ie CCTV. While the ‘sahab’ was saved by his
juniors when the Raj police investigated the
claim by accused, it is now a different game
altogether as the CBI is handling the matter
and the cops involved in the matter are a
worried lot now!

A TIGER WHO GROWLS WHEN
JUNIORS ASK FOR A LEAVE
One Tiger sahab posted in Ajmer is ‘dreaded’ by
his juniors as the sahab’s work ethics is pretty
tiring! Such is the ‘fear’ of the Tiger among his
juniors that they try and not stay within the Tiger’s
‘strike’. Interestingly, this fear has even brought
the juniors together as they all have the same
problem, the Tiger does not give a single leave to
the juniors and those who even dare to approach
him for leaves are given a “blast” instead of an
approval. Such is the situation that cops have not
taken leaves for nearly half year!

COPS DITCH THADI KI CHAI FOR
GAMA’S BLACK COFFEE!
Lets tell you a story about the new favourite
‘programme’ of cops in North district of Jaipur
Commissionerate. Cops are being ‘treated’
these days with ‘black coffee’ by a Gama Sahab.
Although it is an acquired taste, yet several
of the Gama’s peers and juniors have started
gulping down mugs of hot bitter coffee. But why
the sudden change from ‘thadi ki chai’ to an
international beverage? Well, the Gama really likes
black coffee and offers the same to everyone who
visits him at the police station. When questioned
as to why does he drink the ‘dark liquid’, he
gives out certain logical explanations. Claiming
that the black coffee has zero calories, Gama
goes on to mention the efficacy of black coffee
in giving a jump start to the body system and
also keeping one energetic and full of positive
thoughts. Probably this is why the sahab has been
performing excellently in maintaining law and
order in his area and probably this is why most
of his peers and a few of his seniors have started
drinking the black coffee so much so that cops
take out time and make plans to meet the Gama
and drink his brew!

Jaipur: Union minister
Arjunram Meghwal
claimed differences be-
tween CM Ashok Ge-
hlot and his deputy
Sachin Pilot is root
cause of lawlessness in
the state. Union minis-
ter and BJP’s promi-
nent Dalit face alleged
that crime has shot up
under Congress regime
in state. All kind of
atrocities whether
against women, SC/ST
or child have increased
ever since Congress
came to power, he said
while speaking to me-
dia persons at circuit
house in Nagaur.
“The Congress gov-
ernment in the state is
divided between two
groups belonging to Ge-
hlot and Pilot, which is
why crime has gone up,”
said Meghwal who came
from Delhi after a video
clip went viral in which
two Dalit youth were al-
legedly tortured by up-
per caste men.
Meghwal who led a
BJP delegation to in-
quire into the incident,
which has caught na-
tionwide attention,

NAMASTE
TRUMP
Planned kem cho Trump, typical Gujarati
greeting made way for Namaste, to show that
entire India will be there to welcome him
resident of the United States (PO-
TUS), Donald Trump is coming to
India on February 24 and 25 along
with the First Lady Melania.
With the forthcoming American
elections and a trade imbalance with India
on his mind, he is scheduled to visit
Ahmedabad, Agra and New Delhi. He ex-
pects Namaste Trump to be far more spec-
tacular than ‘Howdy Modi’. “I hear, they’re
going to have 10 million people. They say
anywhere from six to 10 million people are
going to be showing up along the route to one
of the largest cricket stadiums in the world,”
Trump said at a rally.
Ahead of his departure Trump rued, “In-
dia has been hitting us very hard with high
tariffs for many years” and said he will sign
a trade deal with Prime Minister Modi only
if it is favourable to American interests. “I’m
going to India next week and we’re talking
trade. They’ve been hitting us very hard for
many, many years,” Trump said at “Keep
America Great” rally of his supporters in
Colorado a few days back. He said he “really
likes” the Indian prime minister but stressed
on giving priority to business talks. “We’ve
got to talk a little…We’ve got to talk a little
business. It’s been hitting us hard. They give
us tariffs, one of the highest in the world is
India,” he told the crowd. Although the two
countries are expected to sign a trade deal,
Trump played down his expectations. The
talks on a “tremendous” trade deal could
slow down, Trump said, if he did not get a
gooddeal.“We’reonlymakingdealsif they’re
good deals because we’re putting America
first. Whether people like it or not, we’re put-
ting America first,” Trump said. India is
likely to lower tariffs on import of American
chicken and dairy products as a sign of flex-
ibility. Last year, India had cut down tariffs
on American motorcycle Harley Davidson by
50 per cent.
Considering that American national elec-
tions are around the corner, India may not
yield much ground. Trump, who has come
throughtheimpeachmentprocessunscathed,
is also aware of this as he said, “Maybe we’ll
slow down. We’ll do it after the election. I
think that could happen too.”
The humongous crowd expected at the Na-
maste rally, Trump said, would spoil him. The
planned kem cho Trump, the typical Guja-
rati greeting made way for namaste, the tra-
ditional Indian welcome, to show that not just
Gujaratis but entire India will be there to

IN-DEPTH
P
ahashivarathri is a day, or rath-
er a night of many possibili-
ties. The fourteenth day of
every month, which is known
as a Shivarathri, is the darkest
day of the month. Celebrating
Shivarathri on a monthly ba-
sis, and the particular day, Ma-
hashivarathri, almost seems
like celebration of darkness.
Any logical mind would resist
darkness and naturally opt for
light. But the word “Shiva” lit-
erally means “that which is
not.” “That which is,” is exist-
ence and creation. “That which
is not” is Shiva.
That which is not means, if
you open your eyes and look
around, if your vision is for
small things, you will see lots
of creation. If your vision is re-
ally looking for big things, you
will see the biggest presence in
the existence is a vast empti-
ness. A few spots which we call
galaxies are generally much
noticed, but the vast emptiness
that holds them does not come
into everybody’s notice. This
vastness, this unbounded emp-
tiness, is what is referred to as
Shiva. Today, modern science
also proves that everything
comes from nothing and goes
back to nothing. It is in this
context that Shiva, the vast
emptiness or nothingness, is
referred to as the great lord, or
Mahadeva.
Every religion, every culture
on this planet has always been
talking about the omnipresent,
all-pervading nature of the di-
vine. If we look at it, the only
thing that can be truly all-per-
vading, the only thing that can
be everywhere is darkness,
nothingness, or emptiness.
Generally, when people are
seeking wellbeing, we talk of
the divine as light. When peo-
ple are no longer seeking well-
being, when they are looking
beyond their life in terms of
dissolving, if the object of
their worship and their sadha-
na is dissolution, then we al-
ways refer to the divine as
darkness.
Light is a brief happening in
your mind. Light is not eternal,
it is always a limited possibili-
ty because it happens and it
ends. The greatest source of
light that we know on this plan-
et is the sun. Even the sun’s
light, you could stop it with
your hand and leave a shadow
of darkness behind.
But darkness is all-envelop-
ing, everywhere. The imma-
ture minds in the world have
always described darkness as
the devil. But when you de-
scribe the divine as all-pervad-
ing, you are obviously refer-
ring to the divine as darkness,
because only darkness is all-
pervading. It is everywhere. It
does not need any support from
anything. Light always comes
from a source that is burning
itself out. It has a beginning
and an end. It is always from a
limited source. Darkness has
no source. It is a source unto
itself. It is all-pervading, every-
where, omnipresent. So when
we say Shiva, it is this vast
emptiness of existence. It is in
the lap of this vast emptiness
that all creation has happened.
It is that lap of emptiness that
we refer to as the Shiva.
In Indian culture, all the an-
cient prayers were not about
saving yourself, protecting
yourself or doing better in life.
All the ancient prayers have
always been “Oh lord, destroy
me so that I can become like
yourself.”
So when we say Shivarathri,
which is the darkest night of
the month, it is an opportunity
for one to dissolve their limit-
edness, to experience the un-
boundedness of the source of
creation which is the seed in
every human being. Mahashiv-
arathri is an opportunity and a
possibility to bring yourself to
that experience of the vast
emptiness within every human
being, which is the source of
all creation.
On the one hand, Shiva is
known as the destroyer. On the
other, he is known as the most
compassionate. He is also
known to be the greatest of the
givers. The yogic lore is rife
with many stories about Shi-
va’s compassion. The ways of
expression of his compassion
have been incredible and aston-
ishing at the same time. So Ma-
hashivarathri is a special night
for receiving too.
It is our wish and blessing
that you must not pass this
night without knowing at least
a moment of the vastness of
this emptiness that we call as
Shiva. Let this night not just be
a night of wakefulness, let this
night be a night of awakening
for you.

n a new parent-
ing podcast,
Catherine, the
Duchess of Cam-
bridge, said she
used hypnobirthing tech-
niquestohelphergetthrough
severe morning sickness – a
conditioncalledhyperemesis
gravidarum. She also used
thetechniquesduringlabour.
She told the Happy Mum,
Happy Baby podcast:
I saw the power of it, the
meditation and the deep
breathing and things like
that, that they teach you in
hypnobirthing, when I was
really sick, and actually I
realised that this was some-
thing I could take control of
during labour. It was hugely
powerful.
So what is hypnobirthing
and what does the evidence
say about its use?
Calmness & relaxation
Hypnobirthing aims to re-
duce fear, pain and anxiety
during childbirth. It in-
volveslearningcalmbreath-
ing techniques, some deep
relaxation, guided media-
tion, visualisation, positive
suggestions & affirmations.
These affirmations
might include phrases such
as, “I have the ability to give
birth to my baby,” or “I
trust in my body and my
baby to help me.”
Hypnobirthing teaches
women to induce a “self-
hypnotic” state of mind
where a woman focuses her
attention inwards, concen-
trates deeply and this helps
her to decrease peripheral
awareness. But she can still
respond to suggestions and
affirmations.
When a woman is afraid
she will physically become
tense, rigid and produce the
stress hormones adrena-
line and cortisol. Her per-
ception of pain will in-
crease and this can affect
labour. Hypnobirthing
aims to counteract the ef-
fects of fear and help wom-
en secrete the hormones
oxytocin and endorphins
which enable her to remain
calm and relaxed, so labour
can progress.
Some women who have
used hypnobirthing tech-
niques say they feel like
they are day dreaming, in a
trance and drifting into a
calm, deeply relaxed state
but are not actually sleep-
ing. Hypnobirthing tech-
niques are founded on Brit-
ish obstetrician Grantly
Dick-Read’s observations.
In his 1942 book, Childbirth
without Fear, he proposed
women in a calm state of
mind, and who had faith in
their ability to give birth,
did so with less pain.
These days, women and
their partners or support
people can learn self-hyp-
notic techniques for hypno-
birthing by attending one-
to-one sessions, group
classes or online courses.
Usually, women attend
sessions from about 25-30
weeksof pregnancybutself-
hypnosis and guided media-
tion techniques are some-
times taught earlier in preg-
nancy. There is also emerg-
ingevidenceitcouldbeused
postnatally if women have
had a traumatic birth or are
experiencing increased lev-
els of anxiety, stress or de-
pression after birth.
Fear and anxiety in
childbirth
Historically, women have
been supported and com-
forted by other women dur-
ing labour and birth, in-
cluding in traditional Abo-
riginal birthing practices.
Women would support oth-
er women by performing
special songs, chants and
rituals to ease the birthing
process and make the wom-
an feel safe and calm.
But while great advances
in care have resulted in bet-
ter outcomes for mothers
and babies in childbirth,
many women today are ex-
tremely anxious and afraid
of this process.

hey say history

repeat itself in Ra-

the biggest question
facing the six legisla-

from the Bahujan Sa-
maj Party and formal-
ly joined the ruling

desert state. The politi-
cal circles are abuzz
with the speculation
that these six former
BSP MLAs are on union
Home Minister Amit
Shah’s ‘radar’. It is be-
ing said that much like
what happened with de-
fectors in Karnataka
and Goa, where the saf-
fron party registered
court case against the
defectors to render
them ineligible. Inter-
estingly, while the saf-
fron party is headed
by new president JP
Nadda, it was during
Shah’s time - as Presi-
dent - that the ‘action’
on defectors was tak-
en at Karnataka and
Goa assemblies. As
such, although Shah
may have left the
‘chair’ of BJP chief,
he still very much
continues to be the
‘strategic head’ of the
BJP after Narendra
Modi and thus the ‘re-
mote’ of the party lies
with Shah simply due
to the reason that
there is no substitute
of the ‘New Sardar
Patel’ within the BJP.
With a formidable force
as Amit Shah could eas-
ily ‘rile up’ and play his
‘cards’ in Rajasthan too
and knowledgeable
sources reveal that if a
similar case is done by
Rajasthan BJP against
the six MLAs, these
men will be on ‘slippery
wicket’ and could poten-
tially be made ineligi-
ble. Sources also re-
veal that the BJP High
Command is mulling
over various legalali-
ties and options avail-
able to them in this
scenario as a team of
senior legal experts is
examining this entire
issue on behalf of

Power gallery is abuzz with this question. Madam heads the dept dealing with common as well top shots of power gallery so there is no dearth of personnel seeking her ap- pointment. But to everybody’s dismay, Madam is not available during visiting hours. Not very long ago the gallery near this department was teeming with visitors. Now few approach her office and even they go back disappointed. OFF THE RECORD A BABU CROSSES LINE IN WHATSAPP In a daring act, an IAS officer termed the party in power, Congress, as ‘Alibaba & 40 Thieves’ party. The bureaucrat gave the above com- ment in a IAS Whats App group. After this controversial comment the group went into complete silence. The heavily loaded comment assumes gravity as it has been done in a Congress ruled state. It is probably for the first time that an IAS has crossed the line. It is really difficult to un- derstand as to what made the bureaucrat come up with such an explosive comment. This IAS was recently transferred from a important department to a comparatively less relevant post. He was shifted to Revenue dept from the ever cozy PHED. REALTY GIANTS KEEN TO INVEST IN PINKCITY The face of real estate market in Jaipur might change forever. Real estate giants from Delhi & Mumbai are eyeing the cityscape with a new vision. The 5 star hotels witnessed many such meetings where big local investors gave presentations to metro giants. The senior executives of Tata real estate company were present at such meetings. DLF is already financing some projects. Godrej, HDIL, India Bulls Real Estate & Oberoi Reality are also interested to introduce real estate projects in the city. NEW AVENUES FOR CREDAI MEMBERS Actually a major chunk of CREDAI members are diversifying in other business. This might be the reason why the list of CREDAI members is reducing every month and that is not all...even the existing members of this organisation are trying their hands at other business avenues. Some have ventured in to education industry & hospitality sector. Nothing wrong with diversification except for the fact that the already cash stripped property market is further being pushed to corner by money drain into other business ventures. MalviyaNagarMLAKa- licharan Saraf and for- mer state BJP president Arun Chaturvedi who had lost to transport minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas in As- sembly election have sought resignation from the minister or asked CM to dismiss him. Both asked the CM to disclose mobile num- bers and conversations that were taken on sur- veillance by the ACB. They claimed that ‘nee- dle of suspicion’ point- ing towards the trans- port minister. They asked the CM about links between Khacha- riyawas and Yadav who was arrested by ACB. Another question was under whose pa- tronage 40 buses of Ya- dav’s Gold Line Trans- port Company had been plying in city. They asked on whose order Mahesh Sharma was given charge of a major centre like Jaipur despite the fact that he was awaiting posting order. Transporter who paid monthly amount were given special sign and bus or truck with that sign was not stopped by officials. “Is it possible for an agent or officer to pass such order,” they asked. Who permitted this lib- erty to transporters? Who received the monthly bribe collected by the agents? “If vehicles of the transporters who gave monthly bribe were not checked on directives of agents does it mean of- ficers were running the department and not a minister considered ‘powerful’?” they ques- tioned. MANY COPS UNDER SCANNER AS CBI PROBES INTO NDPS CASE The CBI has now initiated investigation in the NDPS action conducted by Jaipur Commissionerate’s East District police. The investigation has brought several cops under the scanner and word is that a few khaki clad men could be arrested as well! Word is that the cops tried to ‘fix’ the accused in NDPS Act by claiming that the arrest was made from city. However the accused have contested that their arrest has been shown from the spot where they were not even present! However, the entire episode was ‘caught’ by the third eye ie CCTV. While the ‘sahab’ was saved by his juniors when the Raj police investigated the claim by accused, it is now a different game altogether as the CBI is handling the matter and the cops involved in the matter are a worried lot now! GUP SHUP A TIGER WHO GROWLS WHEN JUNIORS ASK FOR A LEAVE One Tiger sahab posted in Ajmer is ‘dreaded’ by his juniors as the sahab’s work ethics is pretty tiring! Such is the ‘fear’ of the Tiger among his juniors that they try and not stay within the Tiger’s ‘strike’. Interestingly, this fear has even brought the juniors together as they all have the same problem, the Tiger does not give a single leave to the juniors and those who even dare to approach him for leaves are given a “blast” instead of an approval. Such is the situation that cops have not taken leaves for nearly half year! pt’ t se ed in like COPS DITCH THADI KI CHAI FOR GAMA’S BLACK COFFEE! Lets tell you a story about the new favourite ‘programme’ of cops in North district of Jaipur Commissionerate. Cops are being ‘treated’ these days with ‘black coffee’ by a Gama Sahab. Although it is an acquired taste, yet several of the Gama’s peers and juniors have started gulping down mugs of hot bitter coffee. But why the sudden change from ‘thadi ki chai’ to an international beverage? Well, the Gama really likes black coffee and offers the same to everyone who visits him at the police station. When questioned as to why does he drink the ‘dark liquid’, he gives out certain logical explanations. Claiming that the black coffee has zero calories, Gama goes on to mention the efficacy of black coffee in giving a jump start to the body system and also keeping one energetic and full of positive thoughts. Probably this is why the sahab has been performing excellently in maintaining law and order in his area and probably this is why most of his peers and a few of his seniors have started drinking the black coffee so much so that cops take out time and make plans to meet the Gama and drink his brew! Camp on Feb 23 to rectify voters list First India News Jaipur: District Elec- tion Officer (Munici- pal) and District Col- lector Dr Jogaram in- formed that a special camp would be organ- ised on February 23 to receive claims and ob- jections of citizens re- garding electoral nom- inations prepared for the 2020 elections of both the Municipal Corporations, Jaipur Heritage and Greater. All the BLOs would be present at their booths on this day and citizens will be able to give the form to them mentioning their claims and objections. Jogaram added that physical verification of voters has been done by the enumera- tors, EROs and AEROs by visiting the areas. Also, the voter lists have been published based on the verifica- tion. Elections lists have also been read in the wards and at poll- ing booths, regarding which the citizens will be able to submit claims and objections till February 24. The last date for set- tlement of claims and objections will be March 3 and the last publication of elector- al lists will be done on March 16. MIN LASHES OUT AT BJP Transport Minister accused BJP leaders of politics laced with lies aimed at cheating public. Khachariyawas charged Saraf by recalling infamous ‘Petrol pump deals’ and ‘Corruption in the name of college permissions’ when he was health and education minister during previous BJP rule. He also accused Chaturvedi of corruption in the purchase of bed linen for the ‘Divyang’ hostel inmates.

They give us tariffs, one of the highest in the world is India,” he told the crowd. Although the two countries are expected to sign a trade deal, Trump played down his expectations. The talks on a “tremendous” trade deal could slow down, Trump said, if he did not get a gooddeal.“We’reonlymakingdealsif they’re good deals because we’re putting America first. Whether people like it or not, we’re put- ting America first,” Trump said. India is likely to lower tariffs on import of American chicken and dairy products as a sign of flex- ibility. Last year, India had cut down tariffs on American motorcycle Harley Davidson by 50 per cent. Considering that American national elec- tions are around the corner, India may not yield much ground. Trump, who has come throughtheimpeachmentprocessunscathed, is also aware of this as he said, “Maybe we’ll slow down. We’ll do it after the election. I think that could happen too.” The humongous crowd expected at the Na- maste rally, Trump said, would spoil him. The planned kem cho Trump, the typical Guja- rati greeting made way for namaste, the tra- ditional Indian welcome, to show that not just Gujaratis but entire India will be there to welcome him. While the two great democracies move closer, Pakistan got a jolt on Trump’s India visit as it will remain in the FATF Grey list till June 2020. Back in the US, the Indian diaspora may well spoil him further by voting the Republi- cans to power one more time. IN-DEPTH P ahashivarathri is a day, or rath- er a night of many possibili- ties. The fourteenth day of every month, which is known as a Shivarathri, is the darkest day of the month. Celebrating Shivarathri on a monthly ba- sis, and the particular day, Ma- hashivarathri, almost seems like celebration of darkness. Any logical mind would resist darkness and naturally opt for light. But the word “Shiva” lit- erally means “that which is not.” “That which is,” is exist- ence and creation. “That which is not” is Shiva. That which is not means, if you open your eyes and look around, if your vision is for small things, you will see lots of creation. If your vision is re- ally looking for big things, you will see the biggest presence in the existence is a vast empti- ness. A few spots which we call galaxies are generally much noticed, but the vast emptiness that holds them does not come into everybody’s notice. This vastness, this unbounded emp- tiness, is what is referred to as Shiva. Today, modern science also proves that everything comes from nothing and goes back to nothing. It is in this context that Shiva, the vast emptiness or nothingness, is referred to as the great lord, or Mahadeva. Every religion, every culture on this planet has always been talking about the omnipresent, all-pervading nature of the di- vine. If we look at it, the only thing that can be truly all-per- vading, the only thing that can be everywhere is darkness, nothingness, or emptiness. Generally, when people are seeking wellbeing, we talk of the divine as light. When peo- ple are no longer seeking well- being, when they are looking beyond their life in terms of dissolving, if the object of their worship and their sadha- na is dissolution, then we al- ways refer to the divine as darkness. Light is a brief happening in your mind. Light is not eternal, it is always a limited possibili- ty because it happens and it ends. The greatest source of light that we know on this plan- et is the sun. Even the sun’s light, you could stop it with your hand and leave a shadow of darkness behind. But darkness is all-envelop- ing, everywhere. The imma- ture minds in the world have always described darkness as the devil. But when you de- scribe the divine as all-pervad- ing, you are obviously refer- ring to the divine as darkness, because only darkness is all- pervading. It is everywhere. It does not need any support from anything. Light always comes from a source that is burning itself out. It has a beginning and an end. It is always from a limited source. Darkness has no source. It is a source unto itself. It is all-pervading, every- where, omnipresent. So when we say Shiva, it is this vast emptiness of existence. It is in the lap of this vast emptiness that all creation has happened. It is that lap of emptiness that we refer to as the Shiva. In Indian culture, all the an- cient prayers were not about saving yourself, protecting yourself or doing better in life. All the ancient prayers have always been “Oh lord, destroy me so that I can become like yourself.” So when we say Shivarathri, which is the darkest night of the month, it is an opportunity for one to dissolve their limit- edness, to experience the un- boundedness of the source of creation which is the seed in every human being. Mahashiv- arathri is an opportunity and a possibility to bring yourself to that experience of the vast emptiness within every human being, which is the source of all creation. On the one hand, Shiva is known as the destroyer. On the other, he is known as the most compassionate. He is also known to be the greatest of the givers. The yogic lore is rife with many stories about Shi- va’s compassion. The ways of expression of his compassion have been incredible and aston- ishing at the same time. So Ma- hashivarathri is a special night for receiving too. It is our wish and blessing that you must not pass this night without knowing at least a moment of the vastness of this emptiness that we call as Shiva. Let this night not just be a night of wakefulness, let this night be a night of awakening for you. MAHASHIVARATHRI: SAVOUR THE DARKNESS MAHASHIVARATHRI IS A DAY, OR RATHER A NIGHT OF MANY POSSIBILITIES M So when we say Shivarathri, which is the darkest night of the month, it is an opportunity for one to dissolve their limitedness, to experience the unboundedness of the source of creation. Mahashivarathri is an opportunity and a possibility to bring yourself to that experience of the vast emptiness within every human being n a new parent- ing podcast, Catherine, the Duchess of Cam- bridge, said she used hypnobirthing tech- niquestohelphergetthrough severe morning sickness – a conditioncalledhyperemesis gravidarum. She also used thetechniquesduringlabour. She told the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast: I saw the power of it, the meditation and the deep breathing and things like that, that they teach you in hypnobirthing, when I was really sick, and actually I realised that this was some- thing I could take control of during labour. It was hugely powerful. So what is hypnobirthing and what does the evidence say about its use? Calmness & relaxation Hypnobirthing aims to re- duce fear, pain and anxiety during childbirth. It in- volveslearningcalmbreath- ing techniques, some deep relaxation, guided media- tion, visualisation, positive suggestions & affirmations. These affirmations might include phrases such as, “I have the ability to give birth to my baby,” or “I trust in my body and my baby to help me.” Hypnobirthing teaches women to induce a “self- hypnotic” state of mind where a woman focuses her attention inwards, concen- trates deeply and this helps her to decrease peripheral awareness. But she can still respond to suggestions and affirmations. When a woman is afraid she will physically become tense, rigid and produce the stress hormones adrena- line and cortisol. Her per- ception of pain will in- crease and this can affect labour. Hypnobirthing aims to counteract the ef- fects of fear and help wom- en secrete the hormones oxytocin and endorphins which enable her to remain calm and relaxed, so labour can progress. Some women who have used hypnobirthing tech- niques say they feel like they are day dreaming, in a trance and drifting into a calm, deeply relaxed state but are not actually sleep- ing. Hypnobirthing tech- niques are founded on Brit- ish obstetrician Grantly Dick-Read’s observations. In his 1942 book, Childbirth without Fear, he proposed women in a calm state of mind, and who had faith in their ability to give birth, did so with less pain. These days, women and their partners or support people can learn self-hyp- notic techniques for hypno- birthing by attending one- to-one sessions, group classes or online courses. Usually, women attend sessions from about 25-30 weeksof pregnancybutself- hypnosis and guided media- tion techniques are some- times taught earlier in preg- nancy. There is also emerg- ingevidenceitcouldbeused postnatally if women have had a traumatic birth or are experiencing increased lev- els of anxiety, stress or de- pression after birth. Fear and anxiety in childbirth Historically, women have been supported and com- forted by other women dur- ing labour and birth, in- cluding in traditional Abo- riginal birthing practices. Women would support oth- er women by performing special songs, chants and rituals to ease the birthing process and make the wom- an feel safe and calm. But while great advances in care have resulted in bet- ter outcomes for mothers and babies in childbirth, many women today are ex- tremely anxious and afraid of this process. The 6”8’ Jamieson could not have asked for a better start, picking up 3 for 38 in 14 overs and his prized scalps in- cluded two of India’s best long-form batsmen -- skipper Virat Kohli (2) and the dogged Chetesh- war Pujara (14 off 42 balls). —Agencies New Zealand veteran batsman Ross Taylor made history on Friday when he took the field against India in the open- ing Test in Wellington. He became the first player to play 100 matches in all three formats of the game. The ongoing match at the Basin Reserve is his 100th Test. Taylor was presented his 100th Test cap by for- mer New Zealand wicket keeper Ian Smith before the match. “Really excited about the occasion. It’s very nice for the team and the family to experience something they might never do again,” he said. “I’ll need some help drinking (the hundred bottles of wine), but they can be stored for a while. It keeps the tradition from Fleming, Brendon and Dan, who all played over a hundred Tests each and, hopefully, we can celebrate this one with a win.” The 35-year-old played his 100th T20 International against India last month. He has also played 231 ODIs for New Zealand. —Agencies Taylor first cricketer to play 100 matches in all 3 formats New Zealand’s Tim Southee celebrates the wicket of Prithvi Shaw during the first test match series at the Basin Reserve cricket ground in Wellington on Friday. n The play was called off due to heavy downpour, gloomy conditions typifying India’s batting blues n Rahane’s 38 was saving grace for India after debutant Jamieson put on an impressive performance Hungarian Open: Manika, Sathiyan enter pre-quarters Budapest: Common- wealth Games gold medallist Manika Batra notched up a stunning win over World No 26 Chen Szu-Yu to enter pre- quarters of 2020 ITTF World Tour Hungarian Open. Jamieson, who made an impact on his white ball debut during New Zea- land’s 3-0 ODI series win, picked three for 38 on his Test debut and also took a fine catch in the deep to leave India struggling at 122 for 5 on the first day of the opening Test. Is he able to believe what’s happening? “Not really. It’s still sinking in. The last couple of weeks have been pretty surreal as well. On Sunday, a state level function of the officers and employ- ees of the RHB will be organized at Birla au- ditorium where CM Gehlot will be the Chief Guest and the program will be pre- sided by Shanti Dhari- wal. “To ensure that all officials and employees of the board are present in the function, they have been instructed to appear on duty. First India News Jaipur: Days after the horrific dalit atrocity incident rocked the state, late on Friday night the state govern- ment issued orders and transferred the Ajmer range Inspector Gen- eral (IG) Sanjib Kumar Narjari and shifted him to Armed Battalion. Meanwhile, his shoes will be filled in by IG Law and Order Dr Hawa Singh Ghumariya, who till now was serving as IG Law and Order. Interestingly, although the range IG has been shunted out, the district SP has been given a respite as of now. Moreover, IPS P Ramjee, who was serv- ing on deputation has been brought back to the PHQ as IG Law and Order in place of Ghu- mariya. Notably, the incident has sparked widespread discontent against policing in the state with a demonstra- tion also being carried out near the state as- sembly with the agita- tors hold placards de- manding removal of Nagaur SP Vikas Pathak. Aditi Nagar T hey say history repeats itself, but will the po- litical history of Karnataka and Goa repeat itself in Ra- jasthan, is probably the biggest question facing the six legisla- tors who defected from the Bahujan Sa- maj Party and formal- ly joined the ruling Congress party in the desert state. The politi- cal circles are abuzz with the speculation that these six former BSP MLAs are on union Home Minister Amit Shah’s ‘radar’. It is be- ing said that much like what happened with de- fectors in Karnataka and Goa, where the saf- fron party registered court case against the defectors to render them ineligible. Inter- estingly, while the saf- fron party is headed by new president JP Nadda, it was during Shah’s time - as Presi- dent - that the ‘action’ on defectors was tak- en at Karnataka and Goa assemblies. As such, although Shah may have left the ‘chair’ of BJP chief, he still very much continues to be the ‘strategic head’ of the BJP after Narendra Modi and thus the ‘re- mote’ of the party lies with Shah simply due to the reason that there is no substitute of the ‘New Sardar Patel’ within the BJP. With a formidable force as Amit Shah could eas- ily ‘rile up’ and play his ‘cards’ in Rajasthan too and knowledgeable sources reveal that if a similar case is done by Rajasthan BJP against the six MLAs, these men will be on ‘slippery wicket’ and could poten- tially be made ineligi- ble. Sources also re- veal that the BJP High Command is mulling over various legalali- ties and options avail- able to them in this scenario as a team of senior legal experts is examining this entire issue on behalf of BJP in the national capital. WEDDING BELLS First India News Jaipur: Rajsamand MP Diya Kumari, who is also a mem- ber of National Ti- ger Conservation Authority (NTCA), has written a letter to the Union Minis- ter of Environment and Forest Prakash Javadekar. She has expressed her disap- pointment and con- cern over a recent confidential report submitted to the State Government. The report on the sta- tus of 116 tigers of Ranthambore Na- tional Park (RNP) is disturbing. It states that as many as 26 tigers are missing from the park. In her letter, Diya has appealed to Minister Javadekar for a high level en- quiry to get down to the bottom of the matter. It states that the poachers must be identified, caught and strict action must be tak- en against them so that such incidents are not repeated. Furthermore, the MP also stated in her letter that the atti- tude of the con- cerned officials and authorities of the park is half-hearted and lackadaisical. A national park is supposed to con- serve the endan- gered animals and not lead to their decrease in num- bers.
