  2. 2. What Is a Shanty Town <ul><li>Shanty towns are units of irregular low-cost and self-constructed housing built on terrain seized and occupied illegally. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Housing In A Shanty Town <ul><li>The houses are made of scrap metal and other materials that has been found and taken. They are usually one room and will be shared by many people. These homes will be continually improved. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Facilities In A Shanty Town <ul><li>There are very few facilities. Many people wire there homes directly to the electrical wires and take energy illegally. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Employment In A Shanty Town <ul><li>Shanty towns are normally built very close to built up areas and close to factories. The people living in shanty towns are usually employed. Their employers are often very wealthy living near by. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Services In A Shanty Town <ul><li>Homes in shanty towns are illegally built on land that is not owned by the occupants. This means that the council dose not provide any services. There are no proper roads. No clean water and no sewerage. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Education In Shanty Towns <ul><li>For people in shanty towns is often hard to get because in many of the countries with shanty towns education must be paid for. This makes it hard for people in shanty towns to get out of them. </li></ul>
