1. Analysis of the first 2 minutes of James bond the quantum of solace
The opening scene the quantum of solace is probably one of the best in the history of action movies,
because of all of the fast shots the director uses to set the pace of the movie also how he conveys
the feeling for the rest of the movie excellently in this first 2 minutes of this movie.
The first shot we see is a panning shot across a river to large cliff, the underlying dark classical music
leads the audience to think that this movie is going to be of fast pace, the director then cuts to a
sweeping shot of a black car which looks to be a tunnel because it is so dark. This indicates that it is
going fast. Then we go back to the sea shot but this time it is moving quicker across the sea. We then
cut to a second car which is different it again its filmed with sweeping shots only showing its
shadow. We can now see that these cars a probably chasing each other because of the load car
noises creating suspense and the non-diegetic music in the background is also playing its part.
Then we see some shine bullets which are being loaded into a gun this shot only lasts a second, but
the director has now confirmed to us in the first 20 seconds of the movie that there is going to be
chase between these two cars and there is going to be fight, this has set the theme for the whole
movie and shows how important it is to get the movie opening correct because this will keep the
audience engaged with the movie.
We then cut to multiple shot in a matter of 5 seconds, the director has done this to show the pace of
the movie and show how fast pace it is going to be. This most importantly keeps the audience
hooked on the movie because they have so many shots to process that it requires a lot of thinking so
they will continue to watch.
We then cut to a shot of someone right eye, I think this will be the main character in the movie
because generally first person we see in an action movie tends to be the goodie and main character.
The director has done this so we can relate with the character as soon as possible. This shows how

will set the audiences feeling throughout the movie.
This is only the first minute of the movie and we cn already tell so much about what is going to
happen in the rest of it. This once again shows how important it is to get the opening scene correct
especially in an action movie.
