The document discusses editing scene 1 of a film. It explains that the editor decided to split the film into separate scenes for each person to edit. The editor describes opening Adobe Premiere Pro to upload clips and decide which to use with the team. They edit the scene by cutting between shots of dialogue and a character's reaction for emotional impact. Matching audio and video continuity was challenging but important. Basic editing skills were used to keep the short scene simple and focused on the narrative.
2. Once we had finished filming everything that we needed
we decided that the next appropriate task would be to
start editing the film. we knew that this would probably
be the most challenging part and the reason for this is
because we knew that it would take the longest as we
had to learn about the programme as we went on. We
decided to split each scene up to edit, this way everyone
is able to contribute to the task, i decided to edit scene
one and also the opening sequence. Alannis edited
scene two and the end credits and Sadie edited scene 3.
We haven’t filmed for the opening sequence yet so i
started editing scene one. The program i will be using is
called adobe premiere pro. Premiere pro is a timeline
based video editing software, and it means i am able to
edit videos using different graphic designs and input
sound. The first thing that i done once i opened up the
programme was to upload the clips that i will go onto use
for the film. Myself and the rest of the team went through
the footage together and decided which clips would be
the best to use
3. When looking at the footage there
was one with a really strong start
however, the ending was quite bad
due to the sound of the wind
overtaking the dialogue which is
why i have decided to use another
clip for the end of this part. This
was another why when we were
filming to keep the camera in the
same spot as it made the two
separate clips work well together
and allows the continuity of the two
shots to work together and
essentially be ‘hollywood’ editing as
i believe it is unnoticeable
4. The next thing that i wanted to was to change the
camera shot, and to edit it so it cuts directly to Mollys
reaction, the reason for this is because we wanted to
show the audience her reaction so they are able to get
emotionally attached to her, one code and convention
of a short film is to be able to have a strong lead
character, and one which they can relate to which is
why i wanted to get across her reaction and raw
emotion for the audience i chose to use a mid shot of
the main character with the character still in it the
reason for this is because i wanted this scene to focus
on the dialogue and Molly’s reaction to it.
As you can see on the print screen it shows that there
is a clip under video 2 which is the mid shot of the main
character, Molly however, the there also a clip within
the video 1, the reason for this because i need the
dialogue from the the other clip and in the previous print
i placed in the timeline however, the stage was
important because i needed to ensure that dialogue
actually met up with the action, this took a few trials and
errors because i had to ensure that the clip was cut at
the right bit and didn’t overlap the other shot.
5. The next thing that i needed to do was to
cut the final clip down to make sure it
ended where the next scene needed to be
added on which is where we cut the sound,
the sound is on the same tab as we didn’t
want the sound to overlap and not match
up with the action, this really important as it
kept within the continuity of the film to
make it as smooth as possible. The first
scene editing was very simple which
showed basic skills and knowledge of
using the software, however, the reason
that i used minimal effects is because
scene one last for about twenty-five
seconds and if i was to add something like
cross-cutting then it would very unnatural
and would distract the audience from the
actual narrative.
6. The final thing that i
needed to do was to
export the footage that i
had completed, the reason
i done this is because it
enabled me to watch it
back without lagging which
it did throughout editing,
so i could see if the editing
had been done effectively.
