12 angry men comparison
12 angry men is a courtroom drama. I am comparing the differences between the two
different films that have been (were) released, in 1957 and the newer version (that was)
released in 1997. This filmis about an 18-year-old man who supposedly killed his father (he
is taken to court where) 12 jury members have to choose if he is guilty or innocent. One of
the juror member decides to say that he is innocent and then it causes a huge argument and
all of the men get angry and decide after a long time that the kid is innocent.
Between the two different films, there is different styles of camera work in both of them. In
the newer film, there is more use of panning shots.
Another difference between the old filmand the new
film is that in the older film it involves more eye level
shots to make you feel that u are with the characters in
the film it also does shots where it starts at eye level and
the puts the camera below the character to make to
make the room look smaller and this will make the
character feel clostrifobic because there is so much
tension in the air because they canโt decide if the boy is
innocent or guilty and they are arguing about it. Some
more differences are that the judge gets more camera time in the newer filmthan in the
older filmI think this is because they want to know what the judge is saying and they look at
the judge to see what she is saying and the facial expressions she uses. Some a difference in
the camera work on the judge in both films are that in the new film the judge is seen from
over shoulder shot and the old film the judge is eye level with the camera.
The similarities between the two films are that they both
use a lot of close up to show the
characters emotions and what
they saying. In both film u can
see that it is the hottest day of
the year and they are sweating
and as both of the films go on
when they do close ups you can
see that are sweating more
every close up they have. In
both of the films, they use
tracking shots to follow the
characters when they get out of
their seats and go over to other
characters. They do this because
they want to follow the
characters movements to see what they are doing.

There are also some differences between the two films these are in mese-en-sene. These
could be that in the older film the camera was in black
and white because they had not developed colour in
film yet and the newer film is in colour. Some more
differences are that in the older, there is ashtrays on
the tables for the people to smoke at the tables but in
the newer film, there is just paper cups on the table so
they can drink water or they can use it for an ashtray.
Another difference is that in the newer film, they wore
summery clothes like poloโs but they are still smart but
in the older film, they are all wearing suites even though it is the hottest day of the year.
The last different I could think of is that they use different props for the different years they
make the films they use props that suit that year they made the film. For an example, they
use an ac unit for the newer film and in then older film, they use a fan. In the older film, we
do not know what the lighting is like because it is in black and white be we know what it is
like in the colour because we can see how the light is used.
The similarities between them are that both of the rooms are the same
layout. The window is in the same place the fans and ac unit are in the
same place. This is good because then we know where everything is in
both films. Something else that is the same is that all of the jurors all sit
in the same places in both films. some more similarities are that it rains
in both of the films and it makes the character seal anxious and
annoyed because whenever they are trying to talk all they can hear is
the rain and that is annoying when u are trying to have a conversation
about someoneโs life.
There is a difference in sound between the two films there is none
diegetic sound and there is diegetic sound there is sound that the characters canโt hear that
is in the background that is in the text and there is sound that the character would make our
something he says.
Some differences in sounds between the old filmand the new film are that in the new film
you can hear the character more clearly when they talk but in the old filmwhen the
characters speak it is crackly and you cannot really hear what they are saying. Some more
differences are that in the older film they were using music is classical and suits the setting
but in the newer filmthere isnโt any music and makes it feel real because that is how it
would be in a court room. Another difference is that in the older film, they all sounded
smart and formal but in the newer film, they spoke feeler and did not care about the way
they were speaking. Another thing is that they all have different accents in the variation of
their ages because the older people spoke quite posh but the younger people had more
slang in the way they spoke. The last difference is that in the older film they used nicer and
cleaner language but in the newer film they used language like shit and bull shit to make the
person watching the film fell like they mean It and they are angry. Another difference tis
that in the newer film when the film starts they act out the notices from the scene when he

supposedly kills his farther but you can hear I the background someone shouts โIโm going to
kill you.โ In addition, it only say it in the newer film. I think that this was said to give us a
picture of how it all played out.
Some similarities of the sound are that they both contain the same amount of background
music like it rained in both films and the characters acted the same in both films because of
the rain. Another similarity is that when it is stress full they use the same tone of voice in
both of the films and this shows that the dialogue is very similar in both films. Another
similarity is that when they but the knife in the table it makes the same noise in both which
might mean that they used the same knife in both films to get the same sound twice. The
last similarity is tin the background when they are standing by the window at the start of the
film you can hear the traffic out in both of the films but it is very quiet in the older filmbut
you can still hear it but in the newer film you can hear the traffic of the people hooting the
horns.
Some more detail about the film, the film in my opinion is that first impressions are not
always what you should go with you should think about it before you do that action. Like in
the film they all said straight away that he is guilty and did not second-guess it but one man
actually thought about it and changed his mind because that is what he thought was right.
In addition, he then made all of the other jurors change their mind because he made them
think about it. In both films, they followed the same storyline though even some of the lines
and phrases they used were the same but they used different thing like language and props
to show that ages of films, because in the newer film, they started to start using technology
but in the older film, there was not that much involved. Therefore, I think the message of
these films is that even though u might be wrong but you should always think about it
before you risk it.
