The McLean Metro Gravity Sewer Capacity Improvements project was completed in April 2020. The project increased the carrying capacity of the gravity sewer near the McLean Metro Station by installing approximately 223 feet of new gravity sanitary sewer, with 124 feet installed using the jack and bore method. The project team included staff from the Wastewater Design and Construction Division, Utilities Design and Construction Division, and DPWES Director's Office. Patriot Development Corporation served as the contractor and Black & Veatch as the engineer.

This emergency project replaced approximately 60 feet of 10-inch wastewater sewer pipe that was broken during the installation of an electricity utility conduit. The project included installation of an emergency wastewater bypass pumping system, excavation and removal of the broken wastewater sewer pipe, installation of new manholes, and rehabilitation of the work site. The repairs were conducted between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. to limit disruptions to traffic in this busy corridor.

The McLean Hunt Estates Pond Improvement Project consisted of retrofitting an existing dry pond to an extended detention dry pond. The goals of the project were to stabilize the incoming degraded channel constructing a step pool conveyance system; replace the existing corrugated metal pipe principal spillway pipe with reinforced concrete pipe; install a new riser structure with BMP plate to provide water quality benefits; and upgrade the asphalt trail into an access road to accommodate equipment/vehicles for future maintenance.

The work on this project included investigation and repair to an 8-inch sewer line in Waterway Drive which had been previously lined with a plastic liner system. The project location was in Waterway Drive from Cavalier Court to the vicinity of Half Moon Circle. The project involved setting up a bypass system to remove sewage from the line so the pipe could be properly cleaned and inspected. Following this process, it was determined the plastic liner was causing capacity issues. It was determined that the liner could be repaired using internal methods and no excavation was needed. In addition, the five manholes associated with the segments of pipe in the project area were also rehabilitated. This project was substantially complete on June 25, 2021.

In August 2020 Wastewater Collection employees responded to an odor complaint. They used closed circuit television to find a cross bore. After research, it was found that the cross bore was accidently created by Dominion Energy. Staff worked with the property owner and Dominion Energy to relocate the electrical conduit and repair the 8-inch sanitary sewer. The project was completed on November 23, 2020.

During a routine Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Camera inspection by Wastewater Collection Division (WCD), it was found that 45 linear feet of 8-inch asbestos reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) between MH-292 to MH-291 was within imminent danger of failing. The bottom of the RCP was missing within the 45 linear feet of repair and the pipe was on the verge of surcharging. After an immediate pre-construction meeting with Merrifield Nursery, it was agreed to work from 6pm-10am everyday of the week to avoid disruption and potentially placing patrons at risk during the biggest time of the year for Merrifield Garden Center. The contractor mobilized to the site and began the 20-foot excavation to replace 45 linear feet of broken gravity sewer. The project started on March 14th, 2022 and was substantially complete on March 23, 2022.

The Sully Basins Stormwater Pond Retrofits project was substantially completed on April 19, 2022. The project is located within the Cub Run watershed. The project consisted of repair and enhancement of multiple stormwater basins, 0326DP, 0964DP and 1484DP. The project also included construction of new stone cascades, stone weir basin structures and the construction of wetlands with high and low marsh areas. The project will facilitate improved sediment removal and improve downstream water quality using forebays and micro pools. Aquatic and natural habitat were also added within the three basins.

The Clarks Crossing Road Pedestrian Access Improvement project improved the pedestrian and bicycle access along Clarks Crossing Road and was substantially completed on March 23, 2022. This project completed the missing link between the existing sidewalk at Brookside Lane and the previously constructed sidewalk along Clarks Crossing Road. The scope of this project included construction of asphalt sidewalk, curb ramps, curb and gutter, drainage improvements along Brookside Lane and asphalt mill/overlay on Clarks Crossing and Brookside Lane.

Breast cancer is the most fatal women’s cancer, and accurate diagnosis of this disease in the initial phase is crucial to abate death rates worldwide. The demand for computer-aided disease diagnosis technologies in healthcare is growing significantly to assist physicians in ensuring the effectual treatment of critical diseases. The vital purpose of this study is to analyze and evaluate the classification efficiency of several machine learning algorithms with hyperparameter optimization techniques using grid search and random search to reveal an efficient breast cancer diagnosis approach. Choosing the optimal combination of hyperparameters using hyperparameter optimization for machine learning models has a straight influence on the performance of models. According to the findings of several evaluation studies, the k-nearest neighbor is addressed in this study for effective diagnosis of breast cancer, which got a 100.00% recall value with hyperparameters found utilizing grid search. k-nearest neighbor, logistic regression, and multilayer perceptron obtained 99.42% accuracy after utilizing hyperparameter optimization. All machine learning models showed higher efficiency in breast cancer diagnosis with grid search-based hyperparameter optimization except for XGBoost. Therefore, the evaluation outcomes strongly validate the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed technique for breast cancer diagnosis.

We investigated the applicability and efficiency of the MLMC approach to the Henry-like problem with uncertain porosity, permeability and recharge. These uncertain parameters were modelled by random fields with three independent random variables. Permeability is a function of porosity. Both functions are time-dependent, have multi-scale behaviour and are defined for two layers. The numerical solution for each random realisation was obtained using the well-known ug4 parallel multigrid solver. The number of random samples required at each level was estimated by calculating the decay of the variances and the computational cost for each level. The MLMC method was used to compute the expected value and variance of several QoIs, such as the solution at a few preselected points $(t,\bx)$, the solution integrated over a small subdomain, and the time evolution of the freshwater integral. We have found that some QoIs require only 2-3 mesh levels and samples from finer meshes would not significantly improve the result. Other QoIs require more grid levels.

The objective is to design and develop an application that will help to imp rove the efficiency and effectiveness of the police security measures in keeping criminal records. ABSTRACT The victims can file the FIR through the website under various sections. The user can send photo evidence if any online. There will be an 'SOS 'capability in which, the user can press a button and his/her location will be sent to the nearest Police station. There will be a separate component for the accident victims so that FIR can be registered fast and treatment can be started as soon as possible. In this current system, user's information will be kept confidential and only users complain will be forwarded to its nearest police station. Users complain number will be forwarded from the server side automatically. For identifying location and authentic person, concept of cookies and IP addressing has been used. To eliminate the location conflicts between police station, server will play a vital role. It will search the address table using IP address and forward message to that police location from where the message has been received. We intend to create a project which will help bridge the gap between the police department and the common man. 'Online FIR Registration and SOS system' project will have an app from where the users can file FIR against the offender under the various sections. The main site will be maintained by the admin (from the police) who will then notify the user if the FIR has been registered and the necessary action has been taken.

Project Details MCLEAN METRO GRAVITY SEWER CAPICITY IMPROVEMENTS Capital Facilities/Wastewater Design and Construction Division Description: The McLean Metro Gravity Sewer Improvements project was substantially completed on April 28, 2020. This project increased the carrying capacity of the gravity sewer near the McLean Metro Station. Project Overview: • Installation of approximately 223 feet of gravity sanitary sewer. • Construction of 124 feet of sewer via the jack and bore method. • Installation of the remaining alignment via open cut installation.
