The target audience for my magazine is both genders between age 16-30 who enjoy the rock and
indie genre. The chart shows that I distributed my questionnaires evenly between the two age
categories, ‘19-20’ and ’21-30’ evenly. This means that I have covered the full range of ages
within my target audience. A problem with these results may be that the age ranges that I had
selected for the answers were too wide apart for example, I could have used a smaller range so
that the data that I collected would be more specific to the age of my sample. The majority of
people who have answered, ‘21-30’ may have all been all under 25, however I could not identify
this as the age range may have been too wide.

For this question, I provided my sample with a range of colours to select as their favourite. The
majority of people chose blue as their favourite colour, followed by 5 people selecting
purple, and 3 people selecting red. None of my sample chose grey, or suggested another colour
as their favourite and all of the colours left were only selected once. This means that I can tell
which colour that my target audience will prefer to see on the front cover, contents page and
double page spread of my magazine.
4. Which magazine would you prefer to buy?

One that is published weekly

One that is published fortnightly
One that is published monthly
One that is published annually

This question is important when deciding on the initial ideas of the issue information of my music
magazine. For example, based on these results I can decide on how frequent the magazine that I
will create will be published. The data on the chart shows that the sample of my target audience
would prefer to purchase a magazine that is published each month, this may be due to different
factors such as the expense of these magazines or how often they feel like they should be reading
about the genre of music.
5. How much are you willing to pay for a magazine?

This graph shows that the price that my sample would be most willing to pay for a music
magazine would be between £2.01-£3. This will help me decide on which price I should set my
music magazine so that it suits the characteristics of my target audience as they may not
purchase the magazine if it is too expensive on the other hand, less profit would be made from
selling the magazine at a lower price.
6. Which font would you associate the most with a
rock/indie magazine?

These results from my questionnaire show that the majority of my target audience sample would
associate the font, ‘BrowalliaUPC’ the most with a rock and indie magazine. This means that I
can use this font in my magazine as a text for the contents page or double page spread as I don’t
think the text would be suitable for the front cover of themagazine.

For this question, my sample of the target audience filled in an open question after being asked
if they read a magazine currently. Two of the participants put that Kerrang was their favourite
magazine. Therefore, I could make the style of my magazine similar to this magazine.

The sample that I used had the choice to select as many boxes as they wished for this question so
that I could see which they would like to see or read in a magazine as there is more than one
article in a magazine. The majority of the sample chose that they would like to see interviews
inside of a magazine, this allows me to make the decision on the feature articles and regular
content for m contents page and also shows that I should carry out an interview for my double
page spread.
9. Which freebie would attract you the most to buying a
music magazine?

For this question, the sample were asked which freebie would attract them to buying a music
magazine. Most of the sample chose that they would prefer to see a sample CD and would buy
this over the others if they were to buy a music magazine. This allows me to choose whether my
magazine cover should feature an incentive such as a CD, DVD or discount coupon and which one
I should choose.
10. Which three words would you associate with rock
music?
The sample of my target
audience were asked to
state three words that they
would associate with rock
music, I received a wide
range of answers
however, the highest
answer that people put
was, ‘loud’. This may help
me create the text for my
double page
spread, contents page and
the name of my magazine.

The sample were asked an open question of who their favourite band were. The Arctic
Monkeys, Biffy Clyro and the Stone Roses got the highest response with two answers each. This
allows me to decide on what feature articles I should include in my magazine and which artists
will appeal the most to my target audience. A problem with this sample is that there were only
two people who stated these bands, not all of my target audience will like these bands.
12. Which image would be most appealing to you on
the front cover of a magazine?
7
An image from a live
performance
An image photographed in a
studio (one artist)
12
An image photographed in a
studio (a band)

Over half of my sample selected the option,’ An image from a live performance’ when
asked which image they would prefer to see on the front cover of a magazine, 12/20
participants chose that they would like to see an image from a live performance, which
allows me to choose what type of image would appeal to my target audience.
