6. Self-Promotion
Insight to Life
Rumours Reinvention
It could be about a celebrity trying
to clear up rumors circulating.
This is usually carried out by
having a question and answer
style interview. This is the format
I will take for my article, and the
article will include rumours about
the model as I would like her to
conform to Hip-hop associations.
The interview I will do will be an
insight to the models life, this
means it will be insightive to the
audience and presented and
‘new’ and ‘unheard’ of. This also
means that the article should be
emotional and captivate the
audience so that they are
compelled to read on.
I will be interviewing the model
referring to her ‘self-promotion’. I
will ask about her life and all
things to do with the career. This
will involve things that are
presented to be exclusive so that
the audience can feel that they
are receiving something more
than a standard repetitive
interview.
The interview will include details
on the new and improved version
of my celebrity, this means that
the questions will be about how
they have turned their life around.
I will also have to develop a
distinctive language or way of
speech that is different to the
interviewer.

7. Location Shot
I will use this location as I
feel it is a good
background for a Hip Hop
magazine.It has many
different pieces of art of
different colours, this
shows that I can use
different colours as
backgrounds. I also
chose to the photoshoot
outside as with my
chosen camera, natural
lighting allows the colours
to be bolder and more
attracting.

9. Representation:
● The person I have chosen for my magazine must conform to the typical
conventions of a Hip Hop magazine.
● However, by choosing to use a female for the cover of my magazine, I have
already gone against the most common convention. Like Vibe Vixen for
example, my magazine will appeal to women. Men will also be able to enjoy
the contents but the males in my age range may not be as drawn to a female
Hip Hop model.
● The models story will be a ‘Rags to Riches’ Story. They It will be an interview
styled article and explore the life of the model. This will be conveyed in the
images as they will show a graffiti background, suggesting a typical
upbringing.
10. Conventions: Setting (Background)
● For the setting of my magazine will be either somewhere with a graffiti
background or a plain white background. This is undecided so I will
take pictures of the models in both settings.
● I have chosen these settings to take pictures with as when conducting
research, these were the two most common backgrounds, this will help
the audience to identify what the genre of the magazine is from afar.
● The graffiti is often referred to as rebellious and this links to hip hop
music, this would be a colourful and eye catching background to use.
However, more hip hop covers already out there have plain
backgrounds and simple layouts. This setting would also be easier to
put text on top of too.
11. Conventions: Modelling
● I have chosen to use two models for this as I think that this is another
common convention of a hip hop magazine, when conducting research,
I found that there were often two people on the cover. However, I will
also take pictures of the models separately- this means that I can test
and analyse both types of covers.
● They will be female, which is uncommon within the typical hip hop
magazines, but some hip hop magazines have completely separate
magazines directed at and featuring women.
12. ● I will ask the models to attempt to wear mainly on colour, being white or black.
This is another convention of hip hop magazines.
● All of the men wear typically white shirts with jeans and the females are
usually wearing black and white also. Most women featured on the cover of hip
hop magazines are usually sexualised, this convention will not be used for my
magazine as I feel that it should be mainly women based and empower
women rather than sexualise them.
● I may ask the model to wear a hat as well as this is one of the most common
features I came across when I was researching hip hop magazines.
● This will also hopefully stand out amongst the colourful background.
Conventions: Clothing
13. Conventions: Props
● I will not use any props for my magazine images in terms of what the
models will be holding but I will ask the models to wear chains or other
expensive looking jewelry.
● This conforms to the conventions of a hip hop magazine as the models are
usually focused on showing their wealth.
● Apart from this, if the background of the image is busy, I do not want to add
to this clutter.
14. Conventions: Camera Angles
● I will take pictures at all angles but I think that I will be mainly focused on
taking them as ‘medium shots’.
● This is so that most of the model's body is in the frame and there is still
space to add information and a masthead to the image.
● I will need to leave room at the top of the image as this is where the
masthead will need to be placed.
● I have also chosen to focus on mid shots as this was the most common
camera shot for the cover image. However, for the inside I will use different
angles to show location.
● I will be using a 13 megapixel camera to ensure that the quality of the
photos will be maintained when they are larger.
15. Contents Page:
>I will use this type of layout for my magazine. After conducting
research, this is the most typical type of layout for a Hip Hop
magazine. I will use a white background so that the writing is
clearly visible and and the colours can be changed to match the
colour conventions of the magazine.
>The text will be around the main image so that the image is the
main feature, this means that it will attract the reader even more.
The detailed writing underneath will also be visible even though it
is smaller.
>The numbered pages will be feature pages, the contents page
will not include all of the pages but only the pages that will
automatically appeal to the audience.
>My magazine will also feature subheadings, for example; ‘Style’,
‘Music’,’On the cover’.
>It will also have the issue number and brand name, if there is
enough space and the page doesn't look too cluttered.
