 Brothers and sisters, we welcome you to our 17th session of FOUNDATION 1
 In this presentation we are going to continue from where we left off.
 Alhamdulillaah we have covered the past, present and imperative forms for 1 (one) new
scale/pattern, of the 3 letter verb that has one extra letter added to it.
 We are going to do the following derivatives for this scale since the patterns are different:
‫الفاعل‬ ‫اسم‬ ُ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬ ‫اسم‬‫ل‬ْ‫و‬َ‫د‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬‫ر‬
REMEMBER: Only one or more of the following letters are added to the scale/pattern to form derivatives, no other
letters are used: ،‫س‬،‫أ‬،‫ل‬،‫ت‬،‫م‬،‫و‬،‫ن‬،‫ي‬،‫ه‬‫ا‬ They are gathered in the phrase: ‫ا‬َ‫ه‬ْ‫ـ‬‫ي‬ِ‫ن‬ْ‫و‬ُ‫م‬ُ‫ت‬ْ‫ل‬َ‫أ‬َ‫س‬
 Unlike the 3-letter verb which has six different scales/patterns, the 3-letter verb that is increased by ‫أ‬, falls upon
one scale/pattern only: ( َ‫أ‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ْ‫ـ‬‫ف‬/ُ‫ل‬ِ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬ُ‫ـ‬‫ي‬/ْ‫ل‬ِ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬َ‫أ‬ )
 IMPORTANT NOTE: It gives the intransitive verb a transitive implication. So, it gives the meaning of ‘causing’
 How do we form the “Doer”? –
 We take the present tense formation:(
ُ‫ل‬ِ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬ُ‫ـ‬‫ي‬) and replace the sign of the present tense ( ‫عَلمة‬‫ع‬‫املضار‬ -
here it is the ‫ي‬), with a ( ‫م‬). We leave all the vowel signs in their places so we get ( ‫ل‬ِ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬ُ‫م‬). This is the ( ‫اسم‬
‫الفاعل‬) ; the doer or active participle. Examples:
 As for forming the “Receiver” - ‫ل‬ْ‫و‬ُ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬ ‫اسم‬
 We simply take the ( ‫الفاعل‬ ‫اسم‬- ‫ل‬ِ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬ُ‫م‬ ) - and replace the kasrah on the ( ‫ع‬) of the word with a fathah,
so it becomes ( ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬ُ‫م‬ ). Examples:

‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ْ‫ؤ‬ُ‫م‬/ِ‫م‬ْ‫ؤ‬ُ‫م‬َ‫ن‬ْ‫و‬ُ‫ـ‬‫ن‬
‫ة‬َ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ْ‫ؤ‬ُ‫م‬/ْ‫ؤ‬ُ‫م‬‫ات‬َ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬
‫م‬ِ‫ل‬ْ‫س‬ُ‫م‬/ْ‫س‬ُ‫م‬َ‫ن‬ْ‫و‬ُ‫م‬ِ‫ل‬

Forming ‫الفاعل‬ ‫اسم‬-‫ل‬ْ‫و‬ُ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬ ‫اسم‬
Forming ‫ر‬َ‫د‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
 The “Verbal Noun” or ( ‫ر‬َ‫د‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬ ) is the only other scale/pattern that needs to be mentioned
here. It is formed in the following way:
 Take the past tense formation (
َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ْ‫ـ‬‫ف‬َ‫أ‬ )
 Replace the fathah on the hamzatlul qat` with a kasrah so it becomes (
َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ْ‫ـ‬‫ف‬ِ‫إ‬ )
 Then add an alif after the ( ‫ع‬) of the word so it becomes ( ‫ال‬َ‫ع‬ْ‫ـ‬‫ف‬ِ‫إ‬ )
 Some examples of this for words that we know are:

  • 1. َْ‫ال‬َ‫و‬ ،ِ‫م‬‫ي‬ِ‫ح‬َّ‫الر‬ ِ‫ن‬ٰ‫ـ‬َْ‫ْح‬َّ‫الر‬ ِ‫هللا‬ ِ‫م‬ْ‫س‬ِ‫ب‬َّ‫الس‬َ‫و‬ ُ‫ة‬ َ‫َل‬َّ‫الص‬َ‫و‬ ،ِ ‫ه‬ ِ‫لِل‬ ُ‫د‬ْ‫م‬‫ى‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ ُ‫م‬ َ‫َل‬ ‫ى‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬َ‫و‬ ِ‫هللا‬ ِ‫ل‬ْ‫و‬ُ‫س‬َ‫ر‬ِ‫ه‬ِ‫آل‬،ِ‫ه‬ِ‫ب‬‫ا‬َ‫ح‬ْ‫أص‬َ‫و‬ُ‫د‬ْ‫ع‬َ‫ـ‬‫ب‬ ‫ا‬َّ‫َم‬‫أ‬: The 17th Lesson َ‫ع‬ َ‫ع‬ِ‫ب‬‫ا‬َ‫الس‬ ُ‫س‬ْ‫َّر‬‫الد‬َ‫ر‬َ‫َش‬ Week 4  Module 4  Brothers and sisters, we welcome you to our 17th session of FOUNDATION 1  In this presentation we are going to continue from where we left off.  Alhamdulillaah we have covered the past, present and imperative forms for 1 (one) new scale/pattern, of the 3 letter verb that has one extra letter added to it.  We are going to do the following derivatives for this scale since the patterns are different: ‫الفاعل‬ ‫اسم‬ ُ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬ ‫اسم‬‫ل‬ْ‫و‬َ‫د‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬‫ر‬ REMEMBER: Only one or more of the following letters are added to the scale/pattern to form derivatives, no other letters are used: ،‫س‬،‫أ‬،‫ل‬،‫ت‬،‫م‬،‫و‬،‫ن‬،‫ي‬،‫ه‬‫ا‬ They are gathered in the phrase: ‫ا‬َ‫ه‬ْ‫ـ‬‫ي‬ِ‫ن‬ْ‫و‬ُ‫م‬ُ‫ت‬ْ‫ل‬َ‫أ‬َ‫س‬
  • 2.  Unlike the 3-letter verb which has six different scales/patterns, the 3-letter verb that is increased by ‫أ‬, falls upon one scale/pattern only: ( َ‫أ‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ْ‫ـ‬‫ف‬/ُ‫ل‬ِ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬ُ‫ـ‬‫ي‬/ْ‫ل‬ِ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬َ‫أ‬ )  IMPORTANT NOTE: It gives the intransitive verb a transitive implication. So, it gives the meaning of ‘causing’  How do we form the “Doer”? –  We take the present tense formation:( ُ‫ل‬ِ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬ُ‫ـ‬‫ي‬) and replace the sign of the present tense ( ‫عَلمة‬‫ع‬‫املضار‬ - here it is the ‫ي‬), with a ( ‫م‬). We leave all the vowel signs in their places so we get ( ‫ل‬ِ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬ُ‫م‬). This is the ( ‫اسم‬ ‫الفاعل‬) ; the doer or active participle. Examples:  As for forming the “Receiver” - ‫ل‬ْ‫و‬ُ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬ ‫اسم‬  We simply take the ( ‫الفاعل‬ ‫اسم‬- ‫ل‬ِ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬ُ‫م‬ ) - and replace the kasrah on the ( ‫ع‬) of the word with a fathah, so it becomes ( ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬ُ‫م‬ ). Examples: ‫الفاعل‬ ‫اسم‬ ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ْ‫ؤ‬ُ‫م‬/ِ‫م‬ْ‫ؤ‬ُ‫م‬َ‫ن‬ْ‫و‬ُ‫ـ‬‫ن‬ ‫ة‬َ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ْ‫ؤ‬ُ‫م‬/ْ‫ؤ‬ُ‫م‬‫ات‬َ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ ‫م‬ِ‫ل‬ْ‫س‬ُ‫م‬/ْ‫س‬ُ‫م‬َ‫ن‬ْ‫و‬ُ‫م‬ِ‫ل‬ ‫ة‬َ‫م‬ِ‫ل‬ْ‫س‬ُ‫م‬/ْ‫س‬ُ‫م‬‫ات‬َ‫م‬ِ‫ل‬ ‫ن‬ِ‫س‬ُْ‫ُم‬/ِ‫س‬ُْ‫ُم‬َ‫ن‬ْ‫و‬ُ‫ـ‬‫ن‬ ‫ة‬َ‫ن‬ِ‫س‬ُْ‫ُم‬/ُْ‫ُم‬‫ات‬َ‫ن‬ِ‫س‬ ‫ن‬َ‫ص‬ُْ‫ُم‬/َ‫ص‬ُْ‫ُم‬‫ة‬َ‫ن‬/َ‫ص‬ُْ‫ُم‬‫ات‬َ‫ن‬ ‫ص‬َ‫ل‬ُْ‫ُم‬/ُْ‫ُم‬َ‫ن‬ْ‫و‬ُ‫ص‬َ‫ل‬ Forming ‫الفاعل‬ ‫اسم‬-‫ل‬ْ‫و‬ُ‫ع‬ْ‫ف‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬ ‫اسم‬
  • 3. Forming ‫ر‬َ‫د‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬  The “Verbal Noun” or ( ‫ر‬َ‫د‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬ ) is the only other scale/pattern that needs to be mentioned here. It is formed in the following way:  Take the past tense formation ( َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ْ‫ـ‬‫ف‬َ‫أ‬ )  Replace the fathah on the hamzatlul qat` with a kasrah so it becomes ( َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ْ‫ـ‬‫ف‬ِ‫إ‬ )  Then add an alif after the ( ‫ع‬) of the word so it becomes ( ‫ال‬َ‫ع‬ْ‫ـ‬‫ف‬ِ‫إ‬ )  Some examples of this for words that we know are: ِ‫إ‬َ‫ي‬‫ا‬‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬َ‫َل‬ْ‫س‬‫م‬ِ‫إ‬َ‫س‬ْ‫ح‬‫ا‬‫ن‬ The act of being proficient the act of believingthe act of submitting ِ‫إ‬َ‫َل‬ْ‫خ‬‫ص‬ The act of being sincere
