 Brothers and sisters, we welcome you to our 21st session of FOUNDATION 1
 In this presentation we want to continue discussing “The Introduction” in-shaa’ Allaah. We are also
going to introduce the different types of phrases in the Arabic language.
 We have already discussed (‫البسملة‬) i.e. ( ِ‫م‬ْ‫س‬ِ‫ب‬ِ‫هللا‬ِ‫ن‬ٰ‫ـ‬َْ‫ْح‬َّ‫الر‬ِ‫م‬‫ي‬ِ‫ح‬َّ‫الر‬ )
 In this presentation we want to introduce ( ‫ا‬ُ‫ة‬َ‫ل‬َ‫د‬ْ‫م‬َْ‫ل‬ ). This is the statement ( ُ‫د‬ْ‫م‬َْ‫ال‬ِ‫هلل‬ ). This statement
is found in both the shortened introduction and the Khutbatul-Haajah ( ‫خطبة‬‫الاجة‬ ).
 However, before we start, I just want to tell you that Khutbatul-Haajah ( ‫خطبة‬‫الاجة‬ ) means: “The
Address of Need,” and it basically addresses our needs from a spiritual angle. Actually, it covers many
of the major issues of spirituality which are all requirements for one who wants Jannah.
 In-shaa’ Allaah, we hope to highlight these in a brief way as we encounter them during our
explanation.

2. The Phrase or Incomplete Sentence ‫ة‬َ‫د‬ْ‫ي‬ِ‫ف‬ُ‫م‬ ُ‫ر‬ْ‫ـ‬‫ي‬َ‫غ‬ ٌ‫ة‬َ‫ل‬ُْ‫ُج‬–َ‫ر‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬َ‫ا‬‫ص‬ِ‫َّاق‬‫ن‬‫ال‬ ُ‫ب‬َّ‫ك‬
There are five (5) types of phrases, but we are only going to discuss three (3), in-shaa’ Allaah:
i) (
ُ‫ب‬َّ‫ك‬َ‫ر‬ُ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬َ‫ا‬‫ي‬ِ‫ر‬‫ا‬َ‫ش‬ِ‫إل‬‫ا‬ ) The Demonstrative Phrase
ii) (
ُ‫ب‬َّ‫ك‬َ‫ر‬ُ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬َ‫ا‬ْ‫ي‬ِ‫ف‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫و‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬/ْ‫ي‬ِ‫ف‬ْ‫ي‬ِ‫ص‬ْ‫َّو‬‫ـ‬‫ت‬‫ال‬ ) The Descriptive Phrase or the Adjectival Phrase
iii) (
ُ‫ب‬َّ‫ك‬َ‫ر‬ُ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬َ‫ا‬ْ
ِ‫اف‬َ‫ض‬ِْ‫اإل‬ ) The Possessive Phrase
First: (
ُ‫ب‬َّ‫ك‬َ‫ر‬ُ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬َ‫ا‬ْ‫ي‬ِ‫ر‬‫ا‬َ‫ش‬ِ‫إل‬‫ا‬ ) The Demonstrative Phrase
 It is a phrase whereby one ism (‫اسم‬) i.e. the (
ُ‫م‬ْ‫اس‬ِ‫ة‬َ‫ار‬َ‫ش‬ِْ‫اْل‬ ) points to
another noun (
ُ‫ار‬َ‫ش‬ُ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬‫ه‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫إ‬ )
 The (‫اسم‬) that is pointed to i.e. ( ُ‫ار‬َ‫ش‬ُ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬‫ه‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫إ‬ ) must have the definite article
( ْ‫ال‬) e.g. which means , “this boy”‫ا‬َ‫ذ‬ٰ‫ـ‬َ‫ه‬ُ‫د‬َ‫ل‬َ‫و‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬

ُ‫م‬ْ‫اس‬ِ‫ة‬َ‫ر‬َ‫ش‬ِْ‫اْل‬ )(‫ه‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫إ‬ ُ‫ار‬َ‫ش‬ُ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬)

3.  NOTE: If the ( ُ‫ار‬َ‫ش‬ُ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬‫ه‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫إ‬ ) which is the noun (‫اسم‬) that is pointed to does not have ( ْ‫ال‬),
then it would be a complete sentence. For example: ( ‫ا‬َ‫ذ‬ٰ‫ـ‬َ‫ه‬ٌ‫د‬َ‫ل‬َ‫و‬ ) means “This is a boy.”
 If the Predicate ( َ‫ب‬َ‫خ‬) is also definite then a suitable pronoun ( ْ‫ي‬ِ‫م‬َ‫ض‬) should be added
between the subject which is a demonstrative pronoun and the predicate for it to
remain a complete sentence.
 If no pronoun ( ْ‫ي‬ِ‫م‬َ‫ض‬) is added, it would remain an incomplete sentence.

5. Some Times that we Praise (‫المد‬) Allaah in our Daily Lives
a) Upon waking up:

d) The opening chapter of the Qur’aan - Al-Faatihah:

َ‫ر‬ ِ‫ـه‬َّ‫ل‬ِ‫ل‬َ‫ي‬ِ‫م‬َ‫ل‬ٰ‫ـ‬َ‫ع‬ْ‫ل‬‫ٱ‬﴿٢﴾
e) In and around the prayer: There are many places in the salaah and especially after
the solaah where we praise Allaah.
We will deal with all of the above later, in-shaa’ Allaah
