The document discusses conventions of artist/band websites. It provides examples of websites for Rihanna, Chase & Status, and MAX Schneider. The key purposes of artist websites are to promote the artist, allow fan interaction, provide information on upcoming shows/releases, and sell merchandise/tickets. Rihanna's site uses photos as links to different sections, while Chase & Status has text links at the top and MAX splits his acting and music careers between two sites. All sites provide social media links and ways for fans to stay updated.
2. What is the purpose of a website?
To promote the artist/band itself, this could be by having a weekly blog or posting
regular pictures to keep them always in the public eye and don’t get forgotten.
It also allows fans to interact with the artist/band, receiving information about
what’s going on and also contacting them in a new form of “fan mail”.
Keep people knowing when up coming shows are happening, if there is any new
songs or albums coming out and just general information people want to know.
To help sell merchandise, tickets and boost overall sales.
3. Rihanna’s website
Here you
have all
the various
‘links’
within the
website
that would
lead you to
other
pages. This
connects
to every
aspect of
not only
her music
but also
her
fashion
line,
charity
work and
her around
the world
tour.
There is no title however there are plenty of photos of
Rihanna, indicating this is her website.
This is her homepage and on all
the photos there is a link to
another section of her website.
Even though there is no
writing until you hover the
photos, you can see the
variety of work you as a fan
have access too. It provides a
lot of information about her
life and work.
There is a sign up section, where this allows the fans to receive emails and updates about
information about what’s going on. There is also links to her social media to keep them in
constant reach of what is going on not only in her personal life but also work e.g. new music,
promotions and more
http://www.rihannanow.com/
Clear concise layout of where
to find different segments of
information. Additionally
there are a variety of styles to
show what each link is for. E.g.
the shoes are promoting her
sponsorship for Puma.
4. Chase and Status Bands logo, this gives the viewers of the
website a form to recognise Chase and
Status if there wasn’t their name on a
form of merchandise for example.
All the links to their social media sites to
stay in the loop of what they may be doing
in their personal life and work. There will
be most likely be links within their social
media profiles to connect to new music.
These are the links to their latest news which
include new music, what they are doing and where
they are. The tour dates are for their 2016/2017
European Tour. Unlike Rihanna's website their
links are directly at the top and labelled rather than
pictures being displayed across the home page.
The band name in capitals
and large to state whose
website it is.
Links to
their
latest
performa
nces, this
keeps
fans
involved
with them
even if
they
couldn’t
attend
their
concert.
Unlike Rihannas website the background is black and simplistic, everything is very large and takes up the entirety of the home page. There isn’t as many links to
their work or how to get in contact with them. Furthermore, they have their name and logo at the top and no pictures of themselves which is polar opposite to
Rihannas, which is all photos and no name.
Here is a link to
what could be
assumed charity
work, “Rave 4
Refugees”
indicates them
raising money
for the Syrian
Refugee crisis. It
doesn’t need to
state that they
have a whole
page of charity
work, however if
you wanted to
find information,
its not obvious
where you could
find it.

5. MAX (Max Schneider)
http://maxschneider.com/
http://maxhellskitchen.com/
Two different links to his acting and music career, the way he
splits it up at the beginning gives the viewers more
indication at what they want to look at his website for.
Giant header of his name so you know who you are looking at
and a photo of him. Because he is not as well known as
Rihanna there is a possibility the designers felt as if they
needed to show who he is as well as his name.
Links to take you to where you want to go. Clear layout. Unlike
Rihannas where you hover over photos to take you to the location
you want to be.
Youtube link to his newest song which then leads you to a
playlist of his.
Link to his new album and how to purchase. This is bold letters to
attract viewers and to inform them that he has an album out in case
they didn’t know before hand. Additionally the name of his new
album links to his website URL and one can assume this changes
everytime a new album/single is released.
His social media pages, how to subscribe to his
website and ways to contact him, again all in large
icons or text to attract viewers.
