1. be considered to be innocent; in my opinion the back cover conveys an innocent characteristic as it has a soft light
pink, washed out edit over the image. The actual CD is also a rose which compliments the setting of the Digipak well
also roses are an iconic symbol of love. The costume she is wearing on the inside photograph is white and looks like
typical iconography of love as the dress is quite big and white which suggests it could be a wedding dress, she is also
lay in a garden of roses which is extremely iconic of love. On the back cover she looks like she is on a bed surrounded
by white sheets which again is a romantic setting. The fact she doesn’t use direct address perhaps suggests she isn’t
very independent, in my opinion she looks dependent on a man. She looks as if she is in love and waiting around
thinking of this man who she is waiting for.
The titles ‘RIHANNA’ and ‘LOUD’ are simplistic and not very clear, I think this may represent that the audience focus
more on her style and look rather than her music as the main focus of the front cover is her own face. They are also in
white colour therefore the name ‘LOUD’ contradicts itself as it isn’t very ‘loud/bold’ on the front cover, instead this
may suggest her personality is loud as I think her bright bold red lipstick makes more of a statement than the title of
the album. On the back cover their titles of her songs, the ones which feature other artist say, for example ‘Featuring
Drake’. This may also attract the audience to buying their CD if they notice another artist that they like featuring on
the album.
I think Rihanna is quite overly sexualised in these covers and conveys a negative representation of women. The light
pink also contrasts against the bold red this may be to create narrative enigma although I think the red symbolises love
put also passion and lust, possibly that love is dangerous also. Rihanna has a tattoo on her neck which says ‘’Rebelle
Digipak Analysis – Rihanna, Loud
Album
Rihanna is a female mainstream pop
artist which is clearly represented
through this Digipak design.
The mise en scene of the Digipak conveys
a sexual/love story narrative. This is clear
through her dramatic makeup and the
clothes she is wearing. The front cover
image especially has been manipulated
so that her sexual features (lips) are
enhanced to attract the audience. None
of the images use direct mode of address
therefore although Rihanna is sexualised
by her makeup and hair she could also
