3. HOMEPAGE: The link in the centre of the homepage allows
Freya Riding’s target audience to pre-order her
latest album. This is a way to let consumers be
aware of her latest release and will enable her to
make more sales.
The ‘Music’ link lets
the artist’s audience
purchase her music
online instead of in
stores. So its accessible
to everyone.
4. The ‘Live Dates’ page informs the
user of the website when and where
the artist will next be performing as
well as selling tickets.
Fans of Freya Riding can buy her
merchandise online at an affordable
price. This suggests that her targeted
audience ranges from C2-A on the
socio-economic scale.
5. Overall, Freya
Riding’s website
includes a lot of
visuals and is
organised in a stylish
and sophisticated
way. This can imply
that the website is
aimed at young
mainstream adults. In
addition to this, she
doesn’t sexualise
herself in order to
attract a male
audience. Her
merchandise is also
very feminine which
can suggest that she
is aiming her
products towards
female consumers.
7. The ‘News’ page of Maroon 5’s Website is
formally laid out without any pictures. This
may be done to make it more appealing to
an older audience.
The ‘Shows’ tab leads the consumer to the
pop band’s Tour dates page. This is where
they can view the dates of their tour and
purchase tickets from.
Like most music web pages, the ‘Music’
section allows the band’s fans to listen to
Maroon 5’s singles and debut albums on
Spotify.
8. The ‘Videos’ tab gives users access to
view Maroon 5’s music videos and
vlogs of them on tour and interacting
with fans at their concerts.
Fans can also view the band’s photos
that have been taken during their Live
Performances in foreign countries
from their Tour.
The ‘Shop’ page allows people to
purchase Maroon 5’s merchandise
and music through their own
independent Store.
9. Overall, this website I believe is
targeted at mainstream middle-
aged adults. This is strongly
suggested through the
website’s use of dark colours
and sophisticated layout. The
website also does not have that
many pictures on show.
Furthermore, their social media
has not been advertised which
can also indicate that younger
people are not targeted.
10. Dua Lipa’s Website
http://swansong.dualipa.com/
This page helps Dua Lipa promote her new single to the
audience before gaining access to the homepage of her website
by clicking the ‘ENTER SITE’ tab. This is a great way to capture
the consumer’s attention and let them become more aware of
her new content.
11. Promoting her new single and making
it accessible to her targeted audience.
These icons above the ‘Enter Site’ link
leads the consumer to Dua Lipa’s
social media platforms, where she can
interconnect with her fans through
posting on Instagram, Facebook,
Snapchat and Twitter. Her fans can
also have easy access to her music
through YouTube and Spotify.
The ‘Enter Site’ link brings the
user to the home page of Dua
Lipa’s website.
The artist aims to attract a male
audience through her sexualised
physical appearance.
12. Dua Lipa uses many
social media platforms
in order to promote
her content. This
strongly suggests that
her target market
mainly consists of a
young mainstream
audience.
13. HOMEPAGE:
Like the previous page, Dua Lipa’s homepage
advertises her new single ‘Swan Song’ and
promotes her social media platforms.
The Menu Bar at the top of the artist’s
homepage offers the user a wider
range of options that enable them to
learn more about the singer’s talents,
concerts and branding (Merchandise).
The homepage of the
artist’s website is very
professional and involves
a lot of visuals, which
can attract teenagers.
14. The VIP lets fans buy tickets
for other gigs and concerts
that they are interested in.
This site attracts a more
youthful target market as
these festivals and concerts
involve camping and
entertainment venues
aimed at teenagers and
young adults.
The ‘Live’ section
informs the targeted
consumers about the
artist’s upcoming
concerts and
festivals. As shown in
the picture, Dua Lips
has not got any
upcoming shows at
the moment.
15. On the ‘Music’ page, Dua Lipa presents
her Albums and Singles to the
consumer.
When the viewer of the website hovers
the cursor over an album/single cover,
more information is represented which
tells the viewer where they can listen to
the product.
16. This page informs the user about
the Artists’ latest achievements
and updates about new
collaborations with other artists.
The user of the website
can also view Dua Lipa’s
music videos that aim
promote her music.
17. The ‘Music Store’ and ‘Merch
Store’ tabs lead the consumers
to a different web page so that
they can purchase the artist’s
music, clothing and other
products online.
18. To conclude, it is
evident that Dua Lipa’s
website is mainly aimed
at youths. This is
evident through the
website’s use of colour
and visual effects.
Moreover, her clothing
is being sold at a
reasonable price,
meaning that on the
socio-economic scale
C1-A customers are
being targeted.
19. ConclusionThe purpose of an artist’s website is to commercially advertise the talents, achievements and the music compositions
produced by the artist. The generic conventions of a pop music webpage usually involves the use of bright colours,
photographic visuals of the artist and – in some cases – links where consumers can click on and purchase products from
the artist.
Dua Lipa has the most visual effects on her webpage, this strongly suggests that she is using her image in order to attract
her audience. Maroon 5 and Freya Riding on the other hand, don’t promote or sexualise themselves to their consumers
implying that they are trying to increase their popularity through the effect of their music.
Moreover, a conventional feature of music webpages include a homepage where a menu bar is present so that users can
easily access different sections of the page. A merch store and tour dates link is also very conventional for music websites
as these enable the artist to promote their music further by informing their targeted audience about upcoming festivals
and concerts. It may also increase their popularity and allow them to promote their musical content. Music can also be
available on many different platforms (YouTube, Spotify, SoundCloud etc) as well as being advertised on the website.
Spotify and YouTube seems to the most used platform across the 3 performers I have analysed, this is because Spotify
and YouTube are the most popular platforms to promote soundtracks to mainstreamers.
Overall, it seems that Dua Lipa is the one with the most content on her page. This is evident through the promotion of
her many social media platforms on her website. This could be suggesting that Dua Lipa is aiming for a younger audience,
where as Maroon 5 and Freya Riding are aiming for a slightly older audience who aren’t as advanced with technology.
