Assignment
This assignment provides student with an opportunity to
demonstrate their understanding of the concept of the control
function and the application of control systems to improve
quality and performance, especially around the management of
human resources (e.g. people).

Chapter 12
1.Distinguish between an unstructured, a semistructured, and a
structured decision. Which level of manager or employee
generally makes each type of decision?
2.Give an example of each type of decision referenced in #1.
3.The four stages in decision making include: Intelligence,
Design, Choice and Implementation. Which question does each
stage ask?
4.Managerial roles interpersonal roles, informational roles and
decisional roles. Select one role and describe how managers
perform in this role.
5.What is business intelligence and business analytics?
6.Explain how eBay analyzes and uses big data.
7.What is a pivot table and how is it used in business decisions?
8.The balanced scorecard is defined as a framework for
examining a firm’s strategic plan and goals. The scorecard
focuses on measured performance in four areas: financial,
processes, customers and learning and growth. What is the
definition of key performance indicators (KPIs)? Give an
example of a KPI and how it’s used.
Chapter 13
9.Information technology supports four basic areas of
organizational change: automation, rationalization, business
process redesign and paradigm shifts. Describe how IT supports
automation.
10.Total Quality Management (TQM) and Six Sigma are two
business processes that promote quality in an organization.
Describe these two processes.

Explain the suggested types of control and evaluate how they connect to approaches to managing people. Discuss the application of one or more leadership theories in the control process. The presentation should have between 12 to 15 slides and detailed speaker notes.
