Pros And Cons Of Becoming A Pharmacy Technician
Even though there are talks of the US converting to the exclusive use of the metric system, it has not
happened as of yet. Therefore, it is still best for us as pharmacy technicians to learn all three systems
of measurement so that we are adequately prepared in the event we come across an abbreviation or
conversion that is less common. Even if it's not until five years into your career as a pharmacy
technician that you encounter the apothecary system, maybe you have forgotten the conversions but
at least it's not completely foreign to you. You recognize that the abbreviation is from the apothecary
system, therefore you have an idea of where to start with refreshing your memory. Of the specific
pharmacy practice environments, I believe that

Seven Seas Lagoon Summary
A desperate search continues to find a two–year old boy who was snatched by an alligator at the
Seven Seas Lagoon near Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spain Orlando.
Article: Another incredibly sad story emerges from Orlando after a toddler is attacked in a lagoon at
a Disney hotel near Orlando. Despite the father's efforts to save his 2–year–old son from the
alligator's jaws, the boy remains missing.
Gator swims away clutching child
The nightmare continues for the parents of a toddler who was grabbed by an alligator at the Seven
Seas Lagoon. The 911 call came in just after 9:15 pm, according to Orange County Sheriff Jerry
Demings. The 2–year old, on vacation from Nebraska with his parents and two siblings, a 4–year–
old and an 18–year–old, had been attacked by an alligator while playing in and around a foot of
water. Signs posted around the lagoon said the area was not for ... Show more content on

A nearby lifeguard was alerted, but could not rescue the child in time. The father struggled to free
his son from the grips of the gator but was successful, sustaining minor scratches to his hands in the
effort said Demings. The boy's mother also went into the water, trying to find her child, he said.
Authorities have not been able to determine how large the alligator was but it's thought it may be
between four and seven feet in length. Meanwhile, more than 50 law enforcement officers, including
two marine units, are actively searching the lagoon.
Recent alligator attacks
Florida is no stranger to alligator attacks in fact only a week ago, a gator was found with a human
body in its mouth reports WFLA News Channel 8. After a 911 call was dispatched, officers arrived
to find analligator with a person in its mouth. But the victim was deceased for more than a day

Hows does changing the length of wire affect resistance?
OBJECTIVE For this piece of coursework I have been asked to investigate into the resistance of
wires when the length is changed. INTRODUCTION The objective for my coursework (as already
stated above) is to investigate how changing the length of wire can affect the resistance. There are
factors which can affect how accurate our expriment is come on four levels. As in any scientific
experiment, there are always variables ( "likely to change or vary subject to variation; changeable." )
which can alter a potentially good set of results into a bad set full of anomalies. In this particular test
there are five main variables. Length affects resistant, this is the variable which we are changing. As

The USould Adopt The Metric System
The US should adopt the metric system. The US is one of three countries that still use the imperial
system. Everybody else uses the metric system. We need to change to the metric system because of
two factors, social and economic. There are many reasons why we need to change. Some of the
reasons are conversion errors. Another reason is the metric system is easier to use. Though the
metric system and the imperial system are quite different.
The Imperial system use feet, inches, and pounds. The metric system use meters and grams and then
it also adds prefixes. To be in more depth, foot is the unit of length, pound is the unit of weights, and
seconds are the unit of time, for the Imperial system. For the metric system, meter is the basic unit
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a lot of conversion errors because we use a different measurement system. For example,
in 1999 NASA's Mars Orbiter spacecraft crash, costing them $125 million dollars. The project has
been already $327.6 million. It should of been 140–150 km above Mars, but instead it was 57km
above. Being so close to Mars's surface cause it to crash. This happened because one team of
engineers used the imperial system and everybody else used the metric system. This supports my
reason, because of one team using a different measurement system cost them millions of dollars.
Another example is Tokyo Disney Space mountain. It shut down because an axle on it snapped. The
bolt that was delivered was 31.75 millimeters, which was 19.25 millimeters too small. That
happened because of a conversion error. This supports my reason because we used a different
system they got the wrong sized bolt. My final reason is a passenger plane ran out of fuel about
halfway to their destination. The fuel loading was miscalculated. There was 7,682 liters in the tank
and they needed 22,300 kilograms. They added 4,916 liters and they needed 20,088 liters. This
supports my reason, because they miscalculated they ran out of fuel. That's my main examples for
the social factor. The social factor is not the only factor. Another main factor for the US to change to
the metric system is economic. It's costing us money for not changing. For example any company
that deals outside the US has to deal with conversions between the metric and the imperial systems.
Even when they know how to switch the units, they still made errors. Those errors cost them money,
and why are these errors happening can be contribute to learning the metric system at an early

Why Should The USitch To The Metric System
The United States of America: a country with one of the largest influences in the world. They have a
substantial international presence as well as many allies with which information and culture are
shared. Yet, the great United States is at a disadvantage when compared to most other countries
across the globe because of the outdated English system of measurement. Like the other countries of
the world, the U.S. should switch to the metric system.
The metric system is the fundamental way of measuring anything within the sciences. Never is the
English system used, even in the United States. For example, in a physics lab, students are told to be
careful while measuring height and distance; only the metric units are allowed. SI units
(International System of Units, the modern metric system) are the basis of all measuring in scientific
fields. Part of the reason behind this is that conversions are much simpler this way. In the metric
system, every unit has a conversion factor of ten (i.e. one hundred centimeters is equal to one
meter). Converting from English units to metric units is a rather messy affair. The values do not
match up to be whole numbers, and the amount significant figures – the ... Show more content on

The United Sates is currently the only industrialized country that uses English system (English Units
of Measurement 1). A country with such a powerful international influence should be able to
communicate information and discoveries with its allies quite effortlessly, but the English system
serves as an obstacle that must first be overcome. Language is enough of a barrier; if the metric
system was in place, calculations could much more easily be understood. However, there stands the
mentality that it would be so much more of a hassle to switch systems. While it is true that it would
take time and patience, the payoff would greatly benefit not only the nation itself, but its allies as

Why The United States Should Convert To The Metric System
Introduction
An interesting fact is that only 3 countries don't use the metric system. Another interesting fact is
that at one point Canada did not use metric. The Metric system Is a system of measurement that is as
said earlier is used in most countries. The Us is one of the few that doesn't use metric. The reason
this is because most countries deemed it suitable, but the U.S still uses Imperial measurement. In
short the United States should convert to the metric system because conversion from standard to
metric is difficult, the metric system is more precise, and people already use metric in the US
anyway.
The first reason is conversion from standard to metric is difficult. This is because a miscalculation in
converting between metric and imperial. NASA lost a Mars orbiter. This all happened because the
other team used imperial. A plane from air Canada crashed because of converting error. This
happened because the plane was the company's first metric measurements and the gage was not
working. They used ripsticks to see how much fuel the plane took but conversion to volume to
weight went wrong and they crashed. As stated above conversion from standard to metric is difficult
for those reasons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The metric system can be broken into multiple different units to be more precise. If you break things
down it just uses a new prefixes. The broken down pieces are also easier to make bigger The
Imperial system is harder to remember and has a less effective ways to break down. The Imperial
measurement leave room for errors. The Imperial system is also harder to make into bigger pieces.
As said in this paragraph the metric system is more

Why The Imperial System Should Be Abolished Essay
Why the Imperial System Should be Replaced
A few months back, I was in a car with my father driving down the 409, and I wondered, How many
feet are in a mile anyway? So I asked my Dad, who didn't know. This made me wonder if the
imperial system as a whole was just a waste of time. Even though a considerable amount of people
think the US should stay in the imperial system, switching to the metric system would help prevent
doubt of the people in their very own system of measurement, and devastating accidents.
The imperial system is dying, and the people may be losing faith in this dying system. The imperial
system has remained in effect in America since they broke off from the British colonies. Because of
that, one may think that they'd make a new system, because they wouldn't want ... Show more

So, the main arguing point for the imperial system's side is Fahrenheit. Fahrenheit is more specific
than Celsius by around 2 times, and has been around longer, but other than that, there really isn't any
other selling points. The imperial system can also be more useful for real–world measurements,
such as inches, feet, yards, and cups. This differentiates from the metric system, dividing by tens,
while the imperial system divides by threes, fours, sixes and twelves, like 12 Inches to a foot, 3 feet
to a yard, and 4 cups to a pint. The imperial system has a large amount of units used only in very
specific areas, such as furlongs, hogsheads, drams, and long tonnes. Furlongs are only used to
measure horse racing tracks, hogsheads were used to transport tobacco, and drams used to be used
to measure minuscule amounts of fluids. In all honesty, the imperial system is an outdated tool of
measurement on the brink of collapse, and doesn't have a valid enough argument to stay as the
USA's primary system of

The Metric System And Imperial System
The two main systems for the measurement are known as the Metric system and Imperial
system. The Imperial system is also known to be as British Imperial system, used in many parts of
the world in from 16th to the 19th century. Although the Metric system has gained popularity
nowadays, the Imperial system is still used by many countries, like the United Kingdom.
While working in these countries you may find difficulty in units. In Metric System we use gram as
a unit of measurement of mass and if you are told the mass in Pounds used by the Imperial system,
you will probably get confused.
In this article, we will explain the conversion of different units in pounds one by one. Before starting

Metric System Persuasive Essay
More than likely you have run a 5k or know someone who has ran one. This is something that

Measurements and calculations are something that you use every day, if you realize it or not, and
one time or another you will or already have converted imperial units to metric units. Today, I am
going to try and persuade you that the U.S.A. should switch to using the metric system. First, by
looking at the current situation and why it is a problem. Second, by looking at ways to solve this
problem. Currently we have to learn metric and imperial units in school. Finally, by showing you
how everyone will benefit from the changes and what you can do to help I will start by telling you
about the need for the U.S. to convert to the metric system. The U.S. is one of only 3 countries that

(Condliffe)The U.S. is losing money and trade opportunities because we aren't metric,(Marciano)
and every day we have to make conversions from imperial to metric just to understand things. Life
would be so much easier with the metric system, converting from inches to feet and quarts to
gallons wouldn't be necessary, there are 27 measurments in imperial for liquid compared to the 1,
liter, in metric. (Condliffe) If you travel to another country you aren't confused when you see a 90
kilometers per hour sign. One of the major examples for why we need to go metric is that NASA
lost 350 million dollars because one of the robots was speaking to another robot in metric units and
that robot was talking back in imperial units. (Susannah) A smaller example is that many runners
including myself run 5ks and other running events and commonly get asked how far that is, and we
have to reply with 3.11 miles because Americans are too stubborn to switch. A kilometer is .62 of a
mile, the fact that we have to know that isn't necessary. While this

one defective fuel pump. A few seconds of wary calm passed.
Then more alarms sounded. The second pump in the left wing tank was also failing. It was too much

The Importance Of Critical Thinking
Over time society and technology change, and so do our skills in almost about everything, for
instance our survival skills. Learning to think critically and creatively, is the scientist's uttermost
skill to have. Scientists are able to correctly repeat data, identify problems, record observations, and
plan experiments. Critical thinking is when you confront or approach a problem by making
observations, ask questions, and use logic. Scientists use critical thinking, in problems that occur in
their experiments. As a result of using critical thinking, in the problems we face everyday, it will
help solve your problems. Scientific methods are also used to solve problems, but it seems more
complicated and complex. There generally used to help organize the persons thinking about
questions. Using this method can help you find and analyze possible answers. Important to know or
realize is the steps from the sets of procedures that scientists use, is the scientific method and these
steps can vary. The sets of procedures don't always depend on the question to be answered; these
questions more than often, begin with observations. Every time you use a scientific method, you
don't have to use the exact same steps. Scientists that do controlled experiments are able to test a
hypothesis's. Variables are needed in these experiments, because of the result of the changing and
observed variables. In a controlled experiment, variables that don't affect the outcome of the
experiment are not observed; only the ones that affect the outcome. Changing conditions in the
experiment around the same time can affect and can effect the scientist to form a reliable
conclusion. Ideas that scientists have been tested by experiments. In an experiment that doesn't give
the results you wanted, it is not considered as a failure. For a hypothesis to be revised and to have
planned tests of a different variable, observations of events in the natural world are needed. Due to
extraordinary and surprising experimental results, scientists are led in new unknown directions. For
scientists not to create a false conclusion, they always keep in mind the question that it is needed to
be tested. After they have planned and analyzed their experiments, they

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Moles

Before going to talk about how to evacuate moles let us first get a fast thought regarding what moles
are and why or where they create?
Moles are little hued spots on the skin made up of cells called Melanocytes. The logical name for
moles is melanocytic naevi. Moles are regularly brownish in colour albeit some might be darker or
skin–hued. They can be level or raised, smooth or harsh, and some have hair developing from them.
Moles are typically roundabout or oval with a smooth edge.
Moles can change in number and appearance. Some blur away after some time, frequently without
you understanding. They additionally some of the time reacts to hormonal changes, for instance

Metric System Research Paper
How many 16ths of an inch are in a mile? How many fluid ounces in a cubic inch? What is the
conversion factor between degrees celsius and degrees Fahrenheit? These are some of the terrible
questions that plague only the minds of people in three countries in the world: the United States of
America, Myanmar, and Liberia. All 193 of the other countries in the world use the metric system.
The United States of America should convert to the metric system because of the following reasons:
it is the global and scientific standard, it is much easier to use, not using it causes US consumers and
businesses to lose money, and our lack of familiarity with it is part of the reason why our students

One example of this occurred in 1999 when the NASA spacecraft Orbiter burned up in the Martian
atmosphere due to a conversion error. This was caused because one of the Lockheed Martin
engineers tried to use the US customary (imperial) system while all the other engineers used the
metric system (SI) This eventually caused the $125,000,000 orbiter to miss its proper orbit and burn
up in the atmosphere of mars (NASA). Although losses due to conversion errors on this magnitude
are rather uncommon, there are still other ways in which not using the metric system that can cause
US consumers and business to lose money, When selling a product, the seller needs to have
sufficient demand for their product in order to justify the cost of production. One way to increase
the profit is to start mass producing the product. This is because mass producing can significantly
reduce the cost per item to produce a product. However when there is insufficient demand for a
product to mass produce the profit margin will substantially decrease, and the price of the item for
consumers will need to be increased to maintain the cost of operations for the company making the
product. This means that because the US uses a different measurement system than the rest of the
world and has different sizes of products, that any business that makes things for our country has
fewer potential buyers and a higher cost to make each item. This means that if that business
converted to the metric system that they could potentially increase their sales by a factor of 31.
Along with increasing business profits, changing to the metric system would lead to cheaper prices
for all consumers because businesses would not need to have both metric and special US customary
equipment –thus, lowering the operating costs of the

Metric System Benefits
Contention 1: Numerous Benefits
Assists Globalization If the US adopted the metric system, many businesses and industries would
benefit.
The United States is now the only industrialized country in the world that does not use the metric
system as its predominant system of measurement. Judge, that is 95% of the world's total
manufacturing business that uses a different, more precise, and better method than the one we use to
manufacture goods.
As a study from Cambridge University in 2015 states, if the US switched to the metric system,
thousands of new jobs would be created This is because the US workforce will be more prepared to

The metric system also avoids the use of multiple units for the same quantity; for instance, the inch
pound system's multiple units for volume include teaspoons, tablespoons, fluid ounces, etc.
Contention 2: Adoption of Metric System is Feasible Thinking metric won't be hard
Judge, the metric system is a very simple unit of measurement that is simple to understand because
it is easy to convert and easy to use.
Also, schools are already teaching the metric system along with the English system in day to day
classes. Aside from education, almost all, water bottles, thermometers, and food bags already
include metric measurements along side them.
Thinking metric is easy. For example, "thinking metric" for temperature means relating zero degrees
Celsius with the freezing point of water, 20 degrees Celsius with room temperature, 37 degrees
Celsius with body temperature, and 100 degrees Celsius with the boiling points of water.

fork in centimeters and then convert our findings to give us the appropriate units of millimeters and
meters for each object required in the exercise.

the amount of moles of that substance in a solution. For example; in exercise 3 we were asked to

molecular weight of sugar (C = 12.01 grams/mol, H = 1.008 grams/mole, O = 15.00 grams/mole).

Observation Of Wild African Elephants
Wild African elephants may break sleep records for mammals. New data show that they seem to get
by just fine on about two hours of shut–eye a night. Much of that snoozing took place while they
were standing up. The animals lie down to sleep only once every three to four nights. Trying to
figure out how much wild elephants sleep just by watching them 24 hours a day is tricky, especially
in the dark. Much of what scientists had known about sleeping elephants came from animals living
in captivity, notes Paul Manger. He is a neuroscientist, or brain researcher, at the University of the
Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. In zoos and enclosures, elephants have been recorded
snoozing from about three hours to nearly seven during a 24–hour period. Using electronic monitors

The new data seem to now confirm they were right. Manger and his team shared their findings

(similar to Fitbit trackers) in the trunks of two elephants. Both were matriarchs (female leaders) of
their herds in the Chobe National Park. It lies in northern Botswana, a nation in southern Africa. The
trunk on these animals is "250 pounds of muscle," Manger says. That's why, he says, these moms
would hardly have noticed the small tracker implants. Trunks, like human hands, are important for
exploring the world. Elephants rarely keep them still – unless sleeping. The researchers assumed
that a trunk monitor that didn't move for at least five minutes likely meant its host was asleep. Neck
collars helped researchers figure out whether animals were standing up or lying down. The
electronic devices tracked the animals over about a month. During that time, the elephants averaged
just two hours of sleep a day. What's more, the elephants were able to skip a night's sleep without
needing extra naps the next

believe that triceratops' roamed the earth about 65–70 billion years ago. That was around the same
time as the K–T Mass Extinction Event. Which means that triceratops' were one of the last dinosaurs
to live. Though they seem really old to us, they were actually alive towards the end of the dinosaur
age, during the Cretaceous Period. So they are considered not so old for dinosaurs. Or compared to

Toward The Metrication Of The United States
Toward the Metrication of the United States The United States was founded on the ideologies of
originality and independence from extraneous authority. To many, America is more than just a
country, it is the land of the free and is a light in the darkness from the rest of the world. This
inspiration has served Americans well throughout the past, but provides a reason to be reluctant to
try successful ideas from foreign countries. The reluctance of accepting the metric system is the
prominent example of the country's stubbornness to change its views. The switch to the metric
system in the United States is more than just a proposal to be pushed aside, it is a necessity to
survive in the changing market. College students are the next ... Show more content on

In all cases, the increase of ten to the power of three causes the prefix to become "kilo". This
simplification increases efficiency and allows for much easier calculations.
History of the metric system. In order for the younger generation to push for the switch to the metric
system in the United States, they must have some background knowledge on how the metric system
came about. According to the U.S. Metric Association, the founding father of the metric system is
Gabriel Mouton of France. He first thought of a system of measurements based on decimals in 1670.
The system was first based on a nautical mile and also the length of a pendulum needed to swing at
one swing per second. During the years following 1670, numerous French scientists edited and
made improvements to the system. The metric system then became the official units of weights and
measurements in France on April 7, 1795 (Origin of the Metric System). When France decided to
adopt the metric system, this served as a catalyst for the adoption in the rest of the world. After
France became the first country to adopt these measurements, other countries started to notice that
the metric system was well suited for science and industrialization, so they decided to adopt the
measurements as well. To no surprise, the change caught on quickly. According to the U.S. Metric
association, "By 1900 a total of 35 nations, including the major nations of continental

The Importance Of The International System Of Measurement
12 inches equal 1 foot. 3 feet equal 1 yard. 1,760 yards equal 1 mile. At a young age we are forced
to memorize these countless conversions making school a real struggle, but what if there is an easier
way. If you asked anyone else in the world about measurements, 10 cm equals 1 decameter. 10
decimeter equals 1 meter. 1,000 meters equals 1 kilometer. As a math student in the US, using the
traditional system seems absolutely ridiculous; when compared to SI, none of the measurements are
consistent or make sense. Take a look at the world, the International System of Measurements (SI) is
used by every country around the world except for three. Liberia, Burma, and of course the US. In

There are about 300 non–SI units! Converting to SI would not only be beneficial to our teachers,
making their jobs easier because they don't have to waste time on teaching two systems or teaching
conversions, it's also making the lives of students a lot more simplistic. No longer would they have
to worry about if they made their conversion correctly, or what system they should be using. In the
long run converting will have an immense impact. Now, it's no surprise that Americans are lazy and
arrogant. When looking at the reasons why SI is not in effect in the US is because we are lazy and
want to prove a point. "Whenever the discussion of switching unit systems arose in Congress, the
passage of a bill favoring the metric system was thwarted by big businesses and American citizens
who didn't want to go through the time–consuming and expensive hassle of changing the country's
entire infrastructure. Many also believed that the United States should keep its particular system,
setting it apart from other countries and symbolizing its status as a leader rather than a follower."
(Hogeback) Isn't that an American thing to say "leader rather than a follower." No matter what it
comes to the US has to make a statement and be the different one. Americans decided that they do
not want to convert just due to the fact that it will take time and money and change their "status".
However, when

Physics Lab Report On Using A Simple Pendulum Model

Determine the acceleration due to gravity using a simple pendulum
Objective
The objective of this practical is to determine acceleration due to gravity 'g' using the simple
pendulum model. This is shown when a period of oscillation is seen to be independent of the mass
of the mass 'm'.
Theory
A simple pendulum consists of a mass that is attached to a string of length 'L' that is fixed to a point,
in this case, a cork suspended by a clamp stand. This allows the mass to be suspended vertically
downwards and allows it to be displayed at an angle that it swings. A period 'T' of oscillation is the
time required for one complete swing. For this to happen ideally its mass must swing from an angle
that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Eg. 13.26/10 = 1.326)
Step 7: Now square each 'T' value to make 'T^2' (Eg. 1.3262 = 1.758)
Step 8: We can now plot our values into the rearranged equation to figure out acceleration due to
gravity 'g'. (Eg. (4π2 x 43.70)/ 1.758 = 981.4 cm/s2)
Step 9: Because we measured the lengths in centimeters rather than meters, we need to calculate are
'g' value into m/s2 so we can compare it to the SI unit for acceleration due to gravity. (Eg. 981.4/100
= 9.81 m/s2)
Step 10: Draw a scatter plot of T2 on the Y–axis against L on the X–axis.

The Scientific Method Of Science
The first lab I ever did in Biology 101 was about the scientific method. The scientific method is
used to solve everyday problems. I learned about all the steps it takes to carry out the scientific
method completely. This lab taught me the basics of how any scientific experiment is performed.
The first part of the scientific method is to begin making observations and asking questions about
different situations. It is important to always check accumulated sources of scientific data to gain
information about any situation that's being observed. The next part of the scientific method that
should completed is formulating a hypothesis. In other words, a hypothesis is what will lead to the
formation of a statement that can be tested. Usually when a hypothesis is being tested, a controlled
experiment is the type to use. Before any experiment can be tested, all the required materials need to
be gathered together. Then, a reasonable procedure should be written out to be able to perform the
experiment. In a controlled experiment, every factor is held constant except for the single
experimental variable. The single experimental variable is the one that is manipulated, while the
dependent variable is the one that is constantly watched and measured. When designing an
experiment, I learned it is important to include two groups of test subjects. The experimental group
and the controlled group. This is the basis for comparison. Once the experiment is performed,

In the following it is assumed that the Ardunio is able to capture time within a microsecond,
therefore smallest measure of time is 0.000001 or 1micro second. Then form the law :
Distance = 0.5 * Speed of Sound * ( smallest measurable time increment )
Distance= 0.5 * 344 * (0.000001) = 0.0002 meters
Therefore Ideally, the displacement of an object, can be measured with a precision of about 0.2
millimeters.
Considering Doppler effect may affect the Ultrasound sensor accuracy, therefore It is better to
measure time difference with Ardunio instead measuring frequency. Since frequency can be
expressed in terms of the time, (Frequency = 1/T).
The relationship above can be expressed in terms of time instead of frequency, which mean:
V = C * ( Ttx / Trx – 1 ) ..For the approaching car ( from back)
V = C * ( 1 – Ttx / Trx ) .. For the retreating car (from front)
Where :
T = Time period between wave peaks
C = Speed of sound
V = Velocity of object Therefore practical consideration must done when using the Ardunio Uno
with the Distance sensor to measure the safe distance 12 ft. and a safe velocity of minimum 15
mile/hour.:
If the frequency of the transmitted wave is 40Khz, then the time period between peaks is 1/40000
equivalent to 25 microseconds.

Factors Affecting the Resistance of Wire
Aim: To investigate the factors that affect the resistance in a conductor. The main factors that affect
the resistance in a conductor are:
· Length
· Temperature
· Cross sectional area
· Material
· Magnetism
The factor that we are going to change is the cross sectional area.
Hypothesis: I think that the higher the cross sectional area, the lower the resistance in the conductor
will be. This is because the Resistance in a metal conductor happens because as the electrons move
through the material (once a voltage has been applied) they collide with the atoms in the material
and as a result lose some of their energy. The idea of resistance is simply how difficult it is for the
electrons to move through a material. The more difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The equation implies that the resistance is inversely proportional to cross–section, so doubling the
cross section should halve the resistance.
Prediction Graph:
Preliminary work:
The circuit (above) shows how we set up the circuit for our preliminary work and our experiments.
In our preliminary work, we used some constantan wire in a circuit like above and used it to see
what voltage is best to keep the same to find the current and resistance. We found that 3 volts was a
good voltage because the current not too high or too low to get a good resistance.
We also did some preliminary work to see if there is a difference weather the two wires are apart
from each other or constantly touching each other at all parts, all the time. Our preliminary findings
were that it makes no difference. Since it made no difference, we decided to keep them separated so
we don't have to twist the wires around each other.
We also had to work out the cross sectional area of the wires. We knew that the diameter for one
wire was 0.25mm. We used the following formula to work out the cross sectional area:
Cross Sectional Area = Õr²
r = the radius of the wire. The radius is half the diameter so it should therefore be 0.125mm.
Using the formula, I have worked out the Cross Sectional Area for all the wires I will use. To get the
Cross Sectional Area for two wires together you multiply what you found for the first wire by two,
for three wires you multiply by 3

The Odd One Out What is 120 divided by 10? Pretty simple, but now take 120 by 13. The latter

work better with other countries, would make traveling and trading with other countries and

This mishap happened because while a Lockheed engineering team used measurements from the US
Standard System While, the agency's team used the metric system for the operation. This caused
there to be different information on both sides. The spacecraft ended up shooting around 100km
closer to Mars than it should've and about 25 kilometers beneath the level it would have to be in
order to function properly (Lloyd). Traveling out of the country is very difficult if you plan on
driving yourself, too, because they use km/hr to measure their speed instead of mph. If the US were
to switch over to the metric system there would be significantly less missed understandings and
would allow for countries to work better together easier.
One of the reasons many people don't want the Unites States to convertis that 'the "American way"
has gotten this far, why do something different now?' However, the US Standard System of
measurement was actually derived from Great Britain. The US adopted ta measurement system that
stemmed from the units and numbers used in England until 1824 (The Editors of Encyclopædia
Britannica). The metric system is an overall superior option for America. When children go to
school the majority of them, specifically littler kids, aren't fond of math, but this could very well be
the effect of them not understanding the curriculum. If the US were to transfer to the metric system,

Mathematics : A Better System
A Better System
Have you ever wondered what would happen if there was no order in the world? No way to keep
track of time or other necessary things crucial to making sense of the world around us? Math was
created for that specific reason. It is an extremely essential type of "language" that is used by
humans in almost every aspect of their life. It consists of a wide variety of numbers, symbols, and
notations which help to measure many different units of measurements some of which are distance,
time, and quantity. Math is used to maintain an order of these numbers so that the many different
quantities are not jumbled together; simplifying them for humans to be able to better understand.
Two of the biggest systems of math known all around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The metric system is far superior than any other form of measurement known to man. One reason
lies within one of its major characteristics, simplicity. There are two major points that help
breakdown and define why this system is so simple: it has one unit of measurement, and its easy
scalability by prefixes ("Metric" 1). It is a lot easier to convert in the metric system between
different measurements such as mass, volume, and distance due to all of the measurements being in
increments of ten. It removes all of the unnecessary extensive formulas and replaces it with a magic
number to easily do any conversion necessary. The scalability by prefixes builds on top of the one
unit of measurement needed by simply multiplying or dividing by ten, whichever is needed, and just
changing the units "suffix" to achieve the desired measurement. The imperial system, on the other
hand, makes all of these measurements more complicated than they need to be.
Unlike the metric system, the imperial system has several different units for each form of
measurement. For example, a measurement of length contains several units some of the common
ones being inches, feet, and yards. In order to measure all of these together, they would all need to
be converted into one of the three units. It just makes everything much more difficult as the numbers
begin to rise in quantity. Some major subjects such as science and medicine also use the

Reasons Why The US Should Convert To The Metric System
So much hard work and money has been lost just because America has refused to use the metric
system; why do we continue to make life so hard for ourselves and foreigners? Only three countries
in the world don't use the metric system: Burma, Liberia, and the United States. Since the Metric
Act was passed by the Senate in 1866, the U.S. has started using the metric system on things like
food labels and in the military. Yet, we continue to use the imperial system (or USCS) for body–
weight scales, food recipes, and road signs, which makes it difficult for any foreigner traveling to
the U.S., or any American traveling anywhere else. Therefore, for the ease of Americans, for better
interaction with people from other countries, and for science, medicine, and international commerce,
the United States should convert to the metric system.
First of all, the metric system is much easier to use than the U.S. imperial system. The metric system
is much more organized because it is based on the number 10 and adds prefixes like kilo, milli, and
centi. The system America uses seems almost random and is much more difficult to use. We

should convert is because it would make traveling to and from the U.S. a lot easier. Going to a
different country coming from America (and the other way around) can be very confusing if you do
anything that requires measuring food, knowing your weight or height, or knowing the distance to a
place. It shouldn't have to be this way. This difference in measurement systems can even be
dangerous. For example: foreigners traveling to America or Americans traveling somewhere else
would have a lot of difficulty figuring out the speed limit because the road signs would be using
miles per hour when that person thinks in kilometers per hour or vice versa. Why is the United

Self-Storage Discounts
Need To Cut Back On Your Self–Storage Costs? Consider These 3 Potential Discounts While you
may want to get some things out of sight that are in your home or apartment, having the additional
cost of a storage unit will be something you need to fit into your budget. Those small rooms that are
on average 150 square feet can easily cost as much as $140 every single month. Every dollar you
save helps, which is why you should look into one of these three discounts on your storage unit. 1.
Student Discount If you are used to showing your student ID to get into your local movie theater for

What Is Three Materials In Use For Hip Protective Padss?
Three materials, either in use for hip protective pads or with plausibly suitable characteristics, were
selected for evaluation. The first material was 3D vertically lapped nonwoven fabric; the second
material was the same, but with its upper and lower surfaces covered by single layers of jersey–
knitted fabric. The third material was polyurethane closed–cell foam that was claimed to be suitable
for hip protective pads by the manufacturer. The mean values of experimental pads' thicknesses
were 14.16 mm, 15.77mm and 15.89 mm respectively.
The fabric for pocket assembly was made of 92.35% :7.65% cotton elastane . The mean value of

It had density of 1.1 kg/m3 and shore A hardness of 12, the same properties as the artificial flesh
used in previous hip protector testing (Derler et al., 2005). Its thickness of 20 mm corresponds to the
typical thickness of soft tissue found over the most prominent part of the greater trochanter in
female hip fracture patients (Lauritzen and Askegaard, 1992). The artificial flesh (and the fabric
specimen size) was 5 cm × 5 cm, derived from the 5 cm diameter of the average female femur head
(Derler et al., 2005, Mall et al., 2000) and the vulnerable area that projects over the femur (Choi et
al., 2010).
The tower with a dropper was placed above the load cell, as shown in Figure 1. The desired impact
energy of the dropper was obtained by varying its falling height. The impact force the dropper
transferred to the experimental pad was captured by the load cell, which was connected to an
Arduino circuit board to record the data. The data was then transferred to a computer using
Bluetooth.
According to Robinovitch et al. (2009), typical speeds of person fall are 2.0 m/s for a mild fall, 3.4
m/s for a moderate fall and 4.5 m/s for a severe fall. The kinematic equation for free fall is
illustrated below.
V2 = 2gh (1)

Pros And Cons Of Becoming A Pharmacy Technician

  • 1. Pros And Cons Of Becoming A Pharmacy Technician Even though there are talks of the US converting to the exclusive use of the metric system, it has not happened as of yet. Therefore, it is still best for us as pharmacy technicians to learn all three systems of measurement so that we are adequately prepared in the event we come across an abbreviation or conversion that is less common. Even if it's not until five years into your career as a pharmacy technician that you encounter the apothecary system, maybe you have forgotten the conversions but at least it's not completely foreign to you. You recognize that the abbreviation is from the apothecary system, therefore you have an idea of where to start with refreshing your memory. Of the specific pharmacy practice environments, I believe that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Seven Seas Lagoon Summary A desperate search continues to find a two–year old boy who was snatched by an alligator at the Seven Seas Lagoon near Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spain Orlando. Article: Another incredibly sad story emerges from Orlando after a toddler is attacked in a lagoon at a Disney hotel near Orlando. Despite the father's efforts to save his 2–year–old son from the alligator's jaws, the boy remains missing. Gator swims away clutching child The nightmare continues for the parents of a toddler who was grabbed by an alligator at the Seven Seas Lagoon. The 911 call came in just after 9:15 pm, according to Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings. The 2–year old, on vacation from Nebraska with his parents and two siblings, a 4–year– old and an 18–year–old, had been attacked by an alligator while playing in and around a foot of water. Authorities have not been able to determine how large the alligator was but it's thought it may be between four and seven feet in length. Meanwhile, more than 50 law enforcement officers, including two marine units, are actively searching the lagoon. Recent alligator attacks Florida is no stranger to alligator attacks in fact only a week ago, a gator was found with a human body in its mouth reports WFLA News Channel 8. • 4. Hows does changing the length of wire affect resistance? OBJECTIVE For this piece of coursework I have been asked to investigate into the resistance of wires when the length is changed. INTRODUCTION The objective for my coursework (as already stated above) is to investigate how changing the length of wire can affect the resistance. There are factors which can affect how accurate our expriment is come on four levels. As in any scientific experiment, there are always variables ( "likely to change or vary subject to variation; changeable." ) which can alter a potentially good set of results into a bad set full of anomalies. In this particular test there are five main variables. Length affects resistant, this is the variable which we are changing. As water in a hose pipe, the longer the pipe ... • 5. The USould Adopt The Metric System The US should adopt the metric system. The US is one of three countries that still use the imperial system. Everybody else uses the metric system. We need to change to the metric system because of two factors, social and economic. There are many reasons why we need to change. Some of the reasons are conversion errors. Another reason is the metric system is easier to use. Though the metric system and the imperial system are quite different. The Imperial system use feet, inches, and pounds. The metric system use meters and grams and then it also adds prefixes. To be in more depth, foot is the unit of length, pound is the unit of weights, and seconds are the unit of time, for the Imperial system. For the metric system, meter is the basic unit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are a lot of conversion errors because we use a different measurement system. For example, in 1999 NASA's Mars Orbiter spacecraft crash, costing them $125 million dollars. The project has been already $327.6 million. It should of been 140–150 km above Mars, but instead it was 57km above. Being so close to Mars's surface cause it to crash. This happened because one team of engineers used the imperial system and everybody else used the metric system. This supports my reason, because of one team using a different measurement system cost them millions of dollars. Another example is Tokyo Disney Space mountain. It shut down because an axle on it snapped. The bolt that was delivered was 31.75 millimeters, which was 19.25 millimeters too small. That happened because of a conversion error. This supports my reason because we used a different system they got the wrong sized bolt. My final reason is a passenger plane ran out of fuel about halfway to their destination. The fuel loading was miscalculated. There was 7,682 liters in the tank and they needed 22,300 kilograms. They added 4,916 liters and they needed 20,088 liters. This supports my reason, because they miscalculated they ran out of fuel. That's my main examples for the social factor. The social factor is not the only factor. Another main factor for the US to change to the metric system is economic. It's costing us money for not changing. For example any company that deals outside the US has to deal with conversions between the metric and the imperial systems. Even when they know how to switch the units, they still made errors. Those errors cost them money, and why are these errors happening can be contribute to learning the metric system at an early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Why Should The USitch To The Metric System The United States of America: a country with one of the largest influences in the world. They have a substantial international presence as well as many allies with which information and culture are shared. Yet, the great United States is at a disadvantage when compared to most other countries across the globe because of the outdated English system of measurement. Like the other countries of the world, the U.S. should switch to the metric system. The metric system is the fundamental way of measuring anything within the sciences. Never is the English system used, even in the United States. For example, in a physics lab, students are told to be careful while measuring height and distance; only the metric units are allowed. SI units (International System of Units, the modern metric system) are the basis of all measuring in scientific fields. Part of the reason behind this is that conversions are much simpler this way. In the metric system, every unit has a conversion factor of ten (i.e. one hundred centimeters is equal to one meter). Converting from English units to metric units is a rather messy affair. The values do not match up to be whole numbers, and the amount significant figures – the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The United Sates is currently the only industrialized country that uses English system (English Units of Measurement 1). A country with such a powerful international influence should be able to communicate information and discoveries with its allies quite effortlessly, but the English system serves as an obstacle that must first be overcome. Language is enough of a barrier; if the metric system was in place, calculations could much more easily be understood. However, there stands the mentality that it would be so much more of a hassle to switch systems. While it is true that it would take time and patience, the payoff would greatly benefit not only the nation itself, but its allies as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Why The United States Should Convert To The Metric System Introduction An interesting fact is that only 3 countries don't use the metric system. Another interesting fact is that at one point Canada did not use metric. The Metric system Is a system of measurement that is as said earlier is used in most countries. The Us is one of the few that doesn't use metric. The reason this is because most countries deemed it suitable, but the U.S still uses Imperial measurement. In short the United States should convert to the metric system because conversion from standard to metric is difficult, the metric system is more precise, and people already use metric in the US anyway. The first reason is conversion from standard to metric is difficult. This is because a miscalculation in converting between metric and imperial. NASA lost a Mars orbiter. This all happened because the other team used imperial. A plane from air Canada crashed because of converting error. This happened because the plane was the company's first metric measurements and the gage was not working. They used ripsticks to see how much fuel the plane took but conversion to volume to weight went wrong and they crashed. As stated above conversion from standard to metric is difficult for those reasons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. Why The Imperial System Should Be Abolished Essay Why the Imperial System Should be Replaced A few months back, I was in a car with my father driving down the 409, and I wondered, How many feet are in a mile anyway? So I asked my Dad, who didn't know. This made me wonder if the imperial system as a whole was just a waste of time. Even though a considerable amount of people think the US should stay in the imperial system, switching to the metric system would help prevent doubt of the people in their very own system of measurement, and devastating accidents. The imperial system is dying, and the people may be losing faith in this dying system. The imperial system has remained in effect in America since they broke off from the British colonies. Because of that, one may think that they'd make a new system, because they wouldn't want ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, the main arguing point for the imperial system's side is Fahrenheit. Fahrenheit is more specific than Celsius by around 2 times, and has been around longer, but other than that, there really isn't any other selling points. The imperial system can also be more useful for real–world measurements, such as inches, feet, yards, and cups. This differentiates from the metric system, dividing by tens, while the imperial system divides by threes, fours, sixes and twelves, like 12 Inches to a foot, 3 feet to a yard, and 4 cups to a pint. The imperial system has a large amount of units used only in very specific areas, such as furlongs, hogsheads, drams, and long tonnes. Furlongs are only used to measure horse racing tracks, hogsheads were used to transport tobacco, and drams used to be used to measure minuscule amounts of fluids. In all honesty, the imperial system is an outdated tool of measurement on the brink of collapse, and doesn't have a valid enough argument to stay as the USA's primary system of ... Although the Metric system has gained popularity nowadays, the Imperial system is still used by many countries, like the United Kingdom. This is something that affects me every day and I have researched this by looking at articles online from credible sources. Measurements and calculations are something that you use every day, if you realize it or not, and one time or another you will or already have converted imperial units to metric units. Today, I am going to try and persuade you that the U.S.A. should switch to using the metric system. First, by looking at the current situation and why it is a problem. Second, by looking at ways to solve this problem. Currently we have to learn metric and imperial units in school. Finally, by showing you how everyone will benefit from the changes and what you can do to help I will start by telling you about the need for the U.S. to convert to the metric system. Learning to think critically and creatively, is the scientist's uttermost skill to have. Scientists are able to correctly repeat data, identify problems, record observations, and plan experiments. Critical thinking is when you confront or approach a problem by making observations, ask questions, and use logic. Scientists use critical thinking, in problems that occur in their experiments. As a result of using critical thinking, in the problems we face everyday, it will help solve your problems. Scientific methods are also used to solve problems, but it seems more complicated and complex. There generally used to help organize the persons thinking about questions. Using this method can help you find and analyze possible answers. Important to know or realize is the steps from the sets of procedures that scientists use, is the scientific method and these steps can vary. The sets of procedures don't always depend on the question to be answered; these questions more than often, begin with observations. Every time you use a scientific method, you don't have to use the exact same steps. Scientists that do controlled experiments are able to test a hypothesis's. Variables are needed in these experiments, because of the result of the changing and observed variables. In a controlled experiment, variables that don't affect the outcome of the experiment are not observed; only the ones that affect the outcome. Changing conditions in the experiment around the same time can affect and can effect the scientist to form a reliable conclusion. Ideas that scientists have been tested by experiments. In an experiment that doesn't give the results you wanted, it is not considered as a failure. For a hypothesis to be revised and to have planned tests of a different variable, observations of events in the natural world are needed. Due to extraordinary and surprising experimental results, scientists are led in new unknown directions. For scientists not to create a false conclusion, they always keep in mind the question that it is needed to be tested. After they have planned and analyzed their experiments, they ... These are some of the terrible questions that plague only the minds of people in three countries in the world: the United States of America, Myanmar, and Liberia. All 193 of the other countries in the world use the metric system. The United States of America should convert to the metric system because of the following reasons: it is the global and scientific standard, it is much easier to use, not using it causes US consumers and businesses to lose money, and our lack of familiarity with it is part of the reason why our students lag so far behind much of the rest of the world in STEM ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example of this occurred in 1999 when the NASA spacecraft Orbiter burned up in the Martian atmosphere due to a conversion error. This was caused because one of the Lockheed Martin engineers tried to use the US customary (imperial) system while all the other engineers used the metric system (SI) This eventually caused the $125,000,000 orbiter to miss its proper orbit and burn up in the atmosphere of mars (NASA). Although losses due to conversion errors on this magnitude are rather uncommon, there are still other ways in which not using the metric system that can cause US consumers and business to lose money, When selling a product, the seller needs to have sufficient demand for their product in order to justify the cost of production. One way to increase the profit is to start mass producing the product. This is because mass producing can significantly reduce the cost per item to produce a product. However when there is insufficient demand for a product to mass produce the profit margin will substantially decrease, and the price of the item for consumers will need to be increased to maintain the cost of operations for the company making the product. This means that because the US uses a different measurement system than the rest of the world and has different sizes of products, that any business that makes things for our country has fewer potential buyers and a higher cost to make each item. This means that if that business converted to the metric system that they could potentially increase their sales by a factor of 31. Along with increasing business profits, changing to the metric system would lead to cheaper prices for all consumers because businesses would not need to have both metric and special US customary equipment –thus, lowering the operating costs of the ... In order for the younger generation to push for the switch to the metric system in the United States, they must have some background knowledge on how the metric system came about. According to the U.S. Metric Association, the founding father of the metric system is Gabriel Mouton of France. He first thought of a system of measurements based on decimals in 1670. The system was first based on a nautical mile and also the length of a pendulum needed to swing at one swing per second. During the years following 1670, numerous French scientists edited and made improvements to the system. The metric system then became the official units of weights and measurements in France on April 7, 1795 (Origin of the Metric System). When France decided to adopt the metric system, this served as a catalyst for the adoption in the rest of the world. After France became the first country to adopt these measurements, other countries started to notice that the metric system was well suited for science and industrialization, so they decided to adopt the measurements as well. To no surprise, the change caught on quickly. According to the U.S. Metric association, "By 1900 a total of 35 nations, including the major nations of continental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Factors Affecting the Resistance of Wire Aim: To investigate the factors that affect the resistance in a conductor. The main factors that affect the resistance in a conductor are: · Length · Temperature · Cross sectional area · Material · Magnetism The factor that we are going to change is the cross sectional area. Hypothesis: I think that the higher the cross sectional area, the lower the resistance in the conductor will be. This is because the Resistance in a metal conductor happens because as the electrons move through the material (once a voltage has been applied) they collide with the atoms in the material and as a result lose some of their energy. The idea of resistance is simply how difficult it is for the electrons to move through a material. The more difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The equation implies that the resistance is inversely proportional to cross–section, so doubling the cross section should halve the resistance. Prediction Graph: Preliminary work: The circuit (above) shows how we set up the circuit for our preliminary work and our experiments. In our preliminary work, we used some constantan wire in a circuit like above and used it to see what voltage is best to keep the same to find the current and resistance. We found that 3 volts was a good voltage because the current not too high or too low to get a good resistance. We also did some preliminary work to see if there is a difference weather the two wires are apart from each other or constantly touching each other at all parts, all the time. Our preliminary findings
  • 34. were that it makes no difference. Since it made no difference, we decided to keep them separated so we don't have to twist the wires around each other. We also had to work out the cross sectional area of the wires. We knew that the diameter for one wire was 0.25mm. We used the following formula to work out the cross sectional area: Cross Sectional Area = Õr² r = the radius of the wire. The radius is half the diameter so it should therefore be 0.125mm. Using the formula, I have worked out the Cross Sectional Area for all the wires I will use. To get the Cross Sectional Area for two wires together you multiply what you found for the first wire by two, for three wires you multiply by 3 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Metric System Essay The Odd One Out What is 120 divided by 10? Pretty simple, but now take 120 by 13. The latter problem is much more complex than the first if if you put down the calculator and pick up a pencil and paper. With the metric system you usually only measure with numbers that are multiplicates of 5 and 10. The United States should convert to the metric system because it would help America work better with other countries, would make traveling and trading with other countries and businesses easier, and the transition would benefit many other things. Right now in the world, America is one of the few countries that do not use the metric system making it tricky to work easily with other countries. There are approximately 200 countries in the world, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This mishap happened because while a Lockheed engineering team used measurements from the US Standard System While, the agency's team used the metric system for the operation. This caused there to be different information on both sides. The spacecraft ended up shooting around 100km closer to Mars than it should've and about 25 kilometers beneath the level it would have to be in order to function properly (Lloyd). Traveling out of the country is very difficult if you plan on driving yourself, too, because they use km/hr to measure their speed instead of mph. If the US were to switch over to the metric system there would be significantly less missed understandings and would allow for countries to work better together easier. One of the reasons many people don't want the Unites States to convertis that 'the "American way" has gotten this far, why do something different now?' However, the US Standard System of measurement was actually derived from Great Britain. The US adopted ta measurement system that stemmed from the units and numbers used in England until 1824 (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica). The metric system is an overall superior option for America. When children go to school the majority of them, specifically littler kids, aren't fond of math, but this could very well be the effect of them not understanding the curriculum. But also on that weekend, will be even more fun, Lexington will be hosting an equine run! The Breeders' Cup as it's called, is less than two months away, so let's change it up, and talk about some horse feet today! Here are some fun horse foot facts as they relate to human feet! 1) The size of a horse foot is relative to the size of the horse * The estimated size of an adult male and female foot is roughly 14% and 13% of the body height of a man and women, respectively. This does not work with children however, as their limb proportions are different and vary with growth. 2 )The horse foot continues to grow until the age of about 6, (approx. 33 in human ... In a way, this brings up a different concept of killing one of his own men rather than the enemy. Either way, he murdered another being. I thought about this and wondered what Captain Leather will be remembered for when he dies. • 42. Mathematics : A Better System A Better System Have you ever wondered what would happen if there was no order in the world? No way to keep track of time or other necessary things crucial to making sense of the world around us? Math was created for that specific reason. It is an extremely essential type of "language" that is used by humans in almost every aspect of their life. It consists of a wide variety of numbers, symbols, and notations which help to measure many different units of measurements some of which are distance, time, and quantity. Math is used to maintain an order of these numbers so that the many different quantities are not jumbled together; simplifying them for humans to be able to better understand. Two of the biggest systems of math known all around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The metric system is far superior than any other form of measurement known to man. One reason lies within one of its major characteristics, simplicity. There are two major points that help breakdown and define why this system is so simple: it has one unit of measurement, and its easy scalability by prefixes ("Metric" 1). It is a lot easier to convert in the metric system between different measurements such as mass, volume, and distance due to all of the measurements being in increments of ten. It removes all of the unnecessary extensive formulas and replaces it with a magic number to easily do any conversion necessary. The scalability by prefixes builds on top of the one unit of measurement needed by simply multiplying or dividing by ten, whichever is needed, and just changing the units "suffix" to achieve the desired measurement. The imperial system, on the other hand, makes all of these measurements more complicated than they need to be. Unlike the metric system, the imperial system has several different units for each form of measurement. For example, a measurement of length contains several units some of the common ones being inches, feet, and yards. In order to measure all of these together, they would all need to be converted into one of the three units. It just makes everything much more difficult as the numbers begin to rise in quantity. Some major subjects such as science and medicine also use the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Reasons Why The US Should Convert To The Metric System So much hard work and money has been lost just because America has refused to use the metric system; why do we continue to make life so hard for ourselves and foreigners? Only three countries in the world don't use the metric system: Burma, Liberia, and the United States. Since the Metric Act was passed by the Senate in 1866, the U.S. has started using the metric system on things like food labels and in the military. Yet, we continue to use the imperial system (or USCS) for body– weight scales, food recipes, and road signs, which makes it difficult for any foreigner traveling to the U.S., or any American traveling anywhere else. Therefore, for the ease of Americans, for better interaction with people from other countries, and for science, medicine, and international commerce, the United States should convert to the metric system. First of all, the metric system is much easier to use than the U.S. imperial system. The metric system is much more organized because it is based on the number 10 and adds prefixes like kilo, milli, and centi. The system America uses seems almost random and is much more difficult to use. We shouldn't have to teach students two different measurement systems just because we ... Going to a different country coming from America (and the other way around) can be very confusing if you do anything that requires measuring food, knowing your weight or height, or knowing the distance to a place. It shouldn't have to be this way. This difference in measurement systems can even be dangerous. For example: foreigners traveling to America or Americans traveling somewhere else would have a lot of difficulty figuring out the speed limit because the road signs would be using miles per hour when that person thinks in kilometers per hour or vice versa. The first material was 3D vertically lapped nonwoven fabric; the second material was the same, but with its upper and lower surfaces covered by single layers of jersey– knitted fabric. The third material was polyurethane closed–cell foam that was claimed to be suitable for hip protective pads by the manufacturer. Its thickness of 20 mm corresponds to the typical thickness of soft tissue found over the most prominent part of the greater trochanter in female hip fracture patients (Lauritzen and Askegaard, 1992). The artificial flesh (and the fabric specimen size) was 5 cm × 5 cm, derived from the 5 cm diameter of the average female femur head (Derler et al., 2005, Mall et al., 2000) and the vulnerable area that projects over the femur (Choi et al., 2010). The tower with a dropper was placed above the load cell, as shown in Figure 1. The desired impact energy of the dropper was obtained by varying its falling height. The impact force the dropper transferred to the experimental pad was captured by the load cell, which was connected to an Arduino circuit board to record the data.
