Just remember, these rides are really scary if you re not a fun of heights, rotations and inversions.
Make sure to follow the instructions of the crew for your safety.
5. Kingda Ka
Location: Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey
Kingda Ka is considered the father of all roller coaster rides because this one is the tallest and fastest
roller coaster.
It s 456 feet high or about 45 stories up! The ride starts by bringing you to the top at 128 miles per
hour, roughly 3.5 seconds. Then you ll plummet back down in a 270 degree spiral. Quite fast, right!

Ride this Insanity ride!
Located at the top of the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel and Tower, the ride has a massive mechanical arm
extending out 64 feet over the edge of the hotel.
The ride will propel the passengers up to an angle of 70 degrees (making their position straight down)
and spin them in the open air at the speeds of up to three G s.
2. Fahrenheit
Location: Hersheypark in Pennsylvania
The Fahrenheit ride was opened to the public in May 2008. This ride only last about 85 seconds!
In this very short period of time, passengers will: be taken up to about 121 feet, then dropped at a 97
degree angle, then a 107 foot inverted loop, corkscrew roll, cobra element, airborne S roll and another
corkscrew. Amazing!
I think it will be the longest 85 seconds of the passengers.

Islam Phobia
Allah Akbar is a phrase in the Arabic language of Islam religion, translating to say,
Allah is great , and a phrase a terrorist would supposedly use before a wide spread explosive
attack seriously injuring or bringing fatality. This phrase is used commonly, for a punch line in a
joke, where a Muslim with characteristics of the Islamic religion, (like their attire, or race) is
humorously labeled as a terrorist. Many Americans are unaware of the origin of term, and of its
true sentiment. Moreover, this misinformation brings about cognitive misers who conclude that

African American Racism
Since African Americans came into America they have been looked at as unequal. From 1619 1865
Whites controlled African Americans in slavery. Within slavery, African Americans were overworked,
abused, and sold. Even when slavery ended it was not the end of discrimination. African Americans
dealt with Jim Crow laws with which were state and local laws in the United States enacted between
1876 and 1965. An example of these laws would be It shall be unlawful for a negro and white person
to play together or in company with each other at any game of pool or billiards . All of this
discrimination still affects society today 152 years later. African Americans are still affected today by
past discrimination. An example of this would be according to the U.S. Census African Americans are
three times more likely than Whites to live in an impoverished household. Many neighborhoods are
predominantly one race within it, to live in the city is seen more as an African American trait while
living in the suburbs is considered White. Nothing can fix the discrimination in the past but America
has made efforts to help end it these efforts include affirmative action as well as the 13th, 14th, and
15th amendments. Although nothing can fix the horrendous acts of discrimination, the United States
has progressively gotten better to end it.
There are many components in African American criticism that make it a very complex issue. Within
African American there are six main components these

Neutral Tones Thomas Hardy Analysis
In the poem, Neutral Tones ,by Thomas Hardy, the readers will inquire information from the author
through use of imagery. In the first three stanzas Hardy reminisces about a memory he has with a past
loved one. During the last stanza, Hardy reflects how the relationship shaped him. The speaker is
aggravated mentally by the disappointment of love, believing that things were once beautiful. He is
devastated and frustrated when love perishes and feels deceived by the sweet promises love had to
offer.
In the first stanza, Hardy compares his dying relationship to his surroundings. He sets the tone during
this stanza as melancholy and gloomy. The water in the pond represents Hardy s relationship and how
it is not progressing in line 1, We stood by a pond that winter day .... A pond is a small body of water
that rarely has movement just like Hardy s relationship. The sun is described as white in line 2 and is
seemingly deprived from the power to warm and nurture. This intensifies the tone of sadness and
hopelessness. During the third line of the first stanza the leaves that lay on the ... Show more content

The first line of the third stanza describing her smile contains a disheartening meaning. Usually, a
facial gesture would be associated with happiness and joy; whereas in Neutral Tones the smile is
described as the deadest thing . The cold causality of the gesture serves as reminder to the bitterness of
the poem. This metaphor continues, with the phrase: alive enough to have the strength to die (l.10).
This phrase further enhances the emotional uproar experienced by Hardy, presenting a horrifying
image of something that just has enough energy to die. Based from this line, the speaker had already
known that his lover would deceive him in love; just as her smile that defeats the purpose of joy and
happiness. Hardy gives his readers a sense that he knew the relationship was going to be deceased or
was in the process of

Dmitri Shostakovich was Russian composer born on September 25, 1906. He was born and raised in
St. Petersburg Russia. He was the second of 3 children. For the first 9 years of his life, he was not
involved with music. It wasn t until he was nine that he started actively learning and playing music,
starting with piano lessons taken under his mother. From 1919 1925 he studied piano and composition
at St. Petersburg Conservatory. He wrote his First Classical symphony as his graduation piece. In 1927
he won an honorable mention diploma at the 1st International Piano Competition in Warsaw. Many
people saw him as the new hero of Russian music, since Prokofiev and Rachmaninov had fled to the

Compare And Contrast Nevada Constitution And Us Constitution
Constitutions are ordinances set forth by a legislative body to establish the foundations of a
government. The United States of America wrote their constitution to set the rules in place for the
branches of government, their separate powers, and the limitations of the federal government. Since
the United States operates under a federalist government, each state is responsible for establishing
their own governments. There arise the states constitutions. There are inevitable differences between
the content of a constitution of a state versus that of the federal government. In this essay, we will be

Constitution are called the Bill of Rights, they outlined the civil liberties as a citizen of the United
States. Civil liberties are the restrictions of powers the government has on the citizens. For example,
freedom of speech, freedom of the press, no government established religion, and the right to a jury
trial are all examples of liberties the government cannot deny its citizens. According to the Supreme
Court case Barron v. Baltimore in 1833, none of the provisions in the Bill of Rights applied to the
states, they only applied to the federal government and their restrictions (Bowers 43). However, the
authors of Nevada s 1864 constitution included their own Bill of Rights named the Declaration of
Rights. The Declaration of Rights included all of the same principles that the Bill of Rights did such as
the ones listed above. There are two significant differences between the two sets of amendments. For
one, the Nevada constitution requires compensation before the government can seize private property,
the U.S. constitution does not have the same requirement. Second, civil cases in Nevada only require a
three fourths vote to make a decision, federal civil cases require a unanimous decision. However, in
criminal cases, both Nevada and the federal government require a unanimous

11. List the five steps of hypothesis testing, and explain the procedure and logic of each.
The first step in testing hypotheses is to take the question at hand and turn it into a pair of theories that
can be tested; the question is stated as a research hypothesis, and as a null hypothesis about the
populations to be studied. The purpose behind this is to establish something to test the research
hypothesis against, and essentially proving that the opposite of something is false is the same as
proving that the thing is right. A prediction is made and then the polar opposite of the prediction is
studied to ascertain its validity. If the null is proved wrong then the research hypothesis testing ...

A researcher predicts that listening to music while solving math problems will make a particular area
of the brain more active. To test this, a research participant has her brain scanned while listening to
music and solving math problems, and the brain area of interest has a percentage signal change of 58.
From many previous studies with the same math problems procedure (but not listening to music), it is
known that the signal change in this brain area is normally distributed with a mean of 35 and a
standard deviation of 10. (a) Using the .01 level, what should the researchers conclude? Solve this
problem explicitly using all five steps of hypothesis testing, and illustrate your answers with a sketch
showing the comparison distribution, the cutoff (or cutoffs), and the score of the sample on this
distribution. (b) Then explain your answer to someone who has never had a course in statistics (but
who is familiar with mean, standard deviation, and Z scores). The hypothesis testing process begins by
forming a question about the topic at hand. In this case, Does listening to music while doing math
stimulate a certain region of the brain that is not affected when doing math without music? This
question is then turned into a pair of

Essay On Sleep Apnea
One of the most common types of sleep disorders that a person may suffer from is sleep apnea. Sleep
apnea is when a person suffers from uncontrolled stops in breathing. People with this disorder usually
stop breathing while asleep. This disorder is caused from blockage in the airway. When a person is
asleep, the airway may become tight because the muscles that keep it open are relaxed. One form of
sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea. In obstructive sleep apnea, blockage in the airway may be
caused from clotted tissue or fat. Snoring can be caused from any air that gets through the blockage.
When the snoring is stopped and the airway is completely blocked, a person may stop breathing for
about ten to twenty seconds or until the brain recognizes the apnea. A less common form of ... Show

Daytime sleepiness is considered to be the most common symptom that a person with sleep apnea
suffers from. Although a person is not aware of the problem that they have, they are aware of the
symptoms because the sleep that they are getting is not good quality sleep. As a result of the
symptoms they are having, the person with sleep apnea will experience a full day of feeling tired
(Davis w.p.). In order to treat sleep apnea, a sleep test called a polysomnography is performed on the
patient. According to Dr. Vince Berger, This test records the patient s brain waves, heartbeat, and
breathing during an entire night. Treatments are available to patients who are diagnosed with sleep
apnea. Some cases of sleep apnea can be treated by advising the patient to lose weight and to stop
sleeping on his or her back. More extreme cases of sleep apnea may require the patient to have surgery
in order to fix the blockage that prevents a person from breathing. The most common type of treatment
that is recommended is a specialized device called a

Patient Safety and Risk Management Essay
Patient safety and risk management should be intertwined in the organization. Patient safety is where
the patient does not experience unnecessary harm or pain or other suffering during their treatment
(Youngberg, 2011). Minimizing risk is to decrease unnecessary losses or improve or implement
process that will decrease adverse event (Youngberg, 2011). The Samantha Jones adverse event is a
perfect example to enhance patient safety through improved process or project. To understand the
event a root analysis needs to be done and action items are created from this analysis.
Taking time to conduct a proper analysis of the cause eliminates a premature conclusion that may lead
to inadequate corrective actions (William, 2008). A root ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

b. Management needs to empower nurses to speak when they feel there is a safety issue
The first step of the analysis is to collect data which will help with the understanding of the events.
Identifying what data to collect and how and what to compare the results can be challenging. The
organization should have a baseline to compare to see how the changes are working. Comparing
information to similar organizations through benchmarking may indicate the success of the
organization or program. Ransom, Joshi, Nash and Ransom (2008) state benchmarking compares
processes and success through gap analysis, process variation organizational opportunities for
improvement (pg. 132). Data can be collected from prior litigations and claims information.
Monitoring the information through monthly reports can indicate if process modifications or changes
are needed. Once information is identified immediate action should be taken to ensure patient safety
and minimize risk.
Risk managers may choose a model of patient care necessitates a particular work design aimed at
increasing coordination and opportunities for patient and staff input (Avgar, Givan Liu, 2011).

Ability s Inability ( Rough Draft )
Ability s Inability (Rough Draft)
When considering Christian allegories that have been written through the years, one has stood out
from the rest. This piece of literature has stood the test of time and remained beloved by many readers.
In Class Formation, Politics, Structures of Feeling Geoff Eley states Pilgrim s Progress is, with Rights
of Man, one of the two foundational texts of the English working class movement: Bunyan and Paine,
with Cobbett and Owen, contributed most to the stock of ideas and attitudes which make up the raw
material of the movement from 1790 1850 (Eley 217). The Pilgrim s Progress was written by John
Bunyan in February of 1678. At the time, Bunyan titled it The Pilgrim s Progress from This World to
That Which Is to Come; Delivered under the Similitude of a Dream . In modern publications of the
work, Bunyan s sequel to the work titled simply Pilgrim s Progress, Part II has been added at the end
of the original tale. Although the two tales were not originally published back to back, reading them
one after the other shows the striking differences between them. Bunyan specifically used different
events, people, and circumstance in the two different parts to symbolically show how Christian life
can vary greatly depending upon the individual.
John Bunyan s readers wanted the story in The Pilgrim s Progress to continue beyond the original tale.
Two years after publishing the original story, Bunyan wrote his first sequel to The Pilgrim s Progress

Free Will Debate
The Debate over Free will
Free will is the capacity to select between different possible ways of action. We are given free will to
make our own choice. This free will is a gift, so we can decide the way to live. Still, we should keep in
mind that the free will is a responsibility and a gift. The choices people make are a part of the free will
and both are compatible. Thus, the idea of free has been argued by numerous philosophers. Therefore,
my explanation will base on free will and the consequences of the choice.
When you are given the ability to decide on your own, it is free will. For instance, a person was given
a personal choice to make and he said to his friend; Do not make me think; tell me what to do. This
person did not want to utilize free will and decide on his own, he wanted to be told. Likewise, people
have a diverse view about free will. Despite their different perspective, free will is a gift. It comes to
the point each person ends up to have different variety of free will. In addition to this gift of free will,
you are not preprogrammed to please anyone as a robot. Therefore, we can have visualized it this way;
having a gift that is mechanically or one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can determine which choice to make in a situation base on ethical standards and moral values.
Even though, we may not control our upbringing in this world, the ability to access over twenty
percent of our brain is available. My point, though, is that as a child, you have less free will but as an
adult it is freely to exercise it. As we aspire to have all the supernatural or super abilities; it s
impossible to achieve it. Thus, some people will use a meditative process for getting supernatural
powers. To acquire this kind of power, you need to mediate in an organized way. However, it is strictly
prohibited to do mediation to only achieve

Dbq Causes Of World War 1
There were many causes that contributed to World War I like: Imperialism, Militarism, and Alliances.
Europeans thought they could make the world their oyster and take over any areas they pleased. Most
countries did not appreciate their land being taken from them. For example, Serbia wanted
independence from their mother country Austria Hungary, so a nationalist group called the Black
Hand, decided to assassinate the Archduke. If Serbia didn t assassinate the Archduke of Austria
Hungary the war probably wouldn t have happened at all. Europe s imperialism is what caused the

It may be that the company perceives no profitable use for internally generated funds because of a lack

Analyzing Precise Electronic Structure Of The Different...
The core aim of the present work is to completely analyze precise electronic structure of the five
different doped BaTiO3 systems and the bonding interactions between the constituent atoms. This aim
is achieved successfully by adopting maximum entropy method (MEM). In this section, the
importance of electron density studies in structure analysis, the formalism of MEM method, the
principle, MEM methodology followed in this work to elucidate the electron density are given
elaborately.
1.9.2.1 Electron density The electron density is a quantum mechanical observable, that can be
measured through scattering experiments, in particular X ray diffraction from the crystals. The
possibility of measuring charge density in a crystalline system from its X ray diffraction pattern was
conceived several years ago when Debye and Scherrer explained the existence of halos in a powder
photograph where the images of the electronic orbit around the atoms [Debye et.al., 1918].
Electron density is the measure of probability of an electron being present at a specific location. The
regions of electron density are usually found around the atoms and its bonds. The probability of
locating an electron at one point (or) another can be calculated quantum mechanically. This
calculation gives a quantity called electron density. Electron can be viewed as a stationary wave (or) a
cloud of negative charges. The electron density is considered as a periodic function of position in a
crystal, reaches to a

Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Theme Essay
The theme of the book is basically good vs evil and split personality. Mr Utterson tries to solve the
case of Dr Jekyll s will that s linking to the mysterious man Mr Hyde. No one in London knows who
Mr Hyde is, and the few people who saw him described him as weird and slightly deformed . In the
first chapter, Mr Utterson said Mr Hyde is Not easy to describe . And that there is something wrong
with his appearance; something displeasing, something downright detestable , and He must be
deformed somewhere; he gives a strong feeling of deformity, although I couldn t specify the point. He
s an extraordinary looking man . Dr Jekyll, on the other hand, is a wealthy rich man in London and is
well liked, respectable doctor. The two seems nothing alike, which is why Mr Utterson is trying to
crack the case of the link between Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and why Mr Hyde is mentioned in Dr Jekyll

His appearance is a symbol of evil. Whenever someone looked at him they were instantly disgusted at
the sight of him. Much like Mr Hyde and Dr Jekyll, their respective homes are very much alike

which has a great air of wealth and comfort. While the house that Mr Hyde lives in is nothing like the
house of Dr Jekyll. The main house symbolizes the wealth of Dr Jekyll, but his laboratory symbolizes
Mr Hyde. The laboratory is described as a certain sinister block of building ...which bore in every

Cultural Memory
As a paradigmatic place of public involvement and symbolic disclosure, theatre has always served as a
suggestive source of inspiration for architects and played a role in relation to architectural theories and
ideas. Every collective memory unfolds within a spatial framework. Space is a reality that endures:
since our impressions rush by, one after another, and leave nothing behind in the mind, we can
understand how we recapture the past only by understanding how it is, in effect, preserved by our
physical surroundings.
Not so many years ago, the word space had a strictly geometrical meaning: the idea it evoked was
simply that of an empty area. In scholarly use it was generally accompanied by some such epithet as
Euclidean , isotropic , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, nothing seems more natural than the emergence of the past: it arises because time passes. It
so happens that tomorrow today is already a thing of the past. It has become yesterday. The
relationship between theatre and memory is very complex and multifaceted, especially since, unlike
the other arts, the dramatic art includes active involvement of flesh and blood humans on the stage of
life here and now. According to Mirushe Hoxha if, ideally, the spectator truly receives the presented
experience in his/her own self, the experience will leave an eternal trace in the storage of his/her
incorporated motivation, that is, in his/her recessive body, at the behest of which his/her future ecstatic
bodily functions may echo in the context of social practices. When the actor s body makes an offering
to the spectator s body, theatre becomes a breeding ground for new results, at least of its own history.
Theatre then really turns into an act of the most deeply rooted, genuine love between two human

Transcendentalism, By Ralph Waldo Emerson
Re striking the Balance
In a constantly updating world, eventually cultural diffusion causes changes to a society s views and
practices over a period of time. With many religious pressures in Europe and the constant switch
between Catholicism and Protestantism, a group called the Puritans moved to America to start life
anew. The Puritan lifestyle took hold of America s New England colonies and became a theocracy of
how people lived their lives. People lived by the Puritan interpretation of the New Testament with
harsh forms of punishment for the violation of even the most simple sins. Because of this restricting
lifestyle and new ideas like the Enlightenment which caused intellectual reforms, people started to
break away from the extreme Puritan philosophy. Another movement occurring in America called
Transcendentalism, on the other side of the spectrum of Puritanism, started with writer Ralph Waldo
Emerson, specifically with his essay Nature . Emerson depicts the prime example of the breaking
away from strict religion to Transcendentalism. In America, Emerson was a priest who had been
ridiculed and had traveled to Europe to find himself. After meeting up with writers of the
Romanticism movement, he fell in love with it and brought it back to America under the name of
Transcendentalism. Puritanism and Transcendentalism have opposing philosophies which include their
view on people, philosophy and God , and on nature through essays and texts by: William Bradford,

Wrongful Convictions Of Innocent People Essay
Unfortunately, wrongful convictions of innocent people sometimes happen in the criminal justice
system. According to a new report from the University of Michigan Law School s National Registry of
Exonerations, 2015 set a record for the number of wrongly convicted Americans who received justice;
149 people who were either declared innocent or cleared of their convictions or guilty pleas. Many of
them had already served long prison terms for crimes they did not commit (Mencimer, 2016.)
There are many causes that can contribute to a wrongful conviction. Witness misidentification is the
most common cause; we know that the human mind is not like a tape recorder, and can make
mistakes. Forensic analysts presenting evidence that has little or no scientific basis, false confessions
by suspects during the interrogation process, government officials taking steps to ensure that a suspect
is convicted despite poor evidence, testimony by people with incentives to testify, and poorly prepared
lawyers are just some of the other causes that can result in a wrongful conviction. The death penalty
case of Cameron Todd Willingham, of Corsicana, Texas, is one that experts now agree that the
evidence proves he was wrongfully convicted. But unfortunately, he was already put to death by lethal
injection.
On December 23, 1991, the Willingham family home was engulfed in flames. Stacey Willingham was

Matisse s Bonheur De Vivre, Paul CĂ©zanne
Matisse s Bonheur de Vivre, Picasso s Les Demoiselles d Avignon, and Paul CĂ©zanne s The Large
Bathers (Harris Zucker, n.d.) were some of the most notable paintings at the beginning of the 20th
century. At this time, art had essentially evolved from the impressionist movement, whose ideas were
mainly the building blocks of the modernist movement. This paper looks at these specific works with
respect to how Picasso s and Matisse s pieces can be regarded as having been inspired by and moving
away from CĂ©zanne s piece at the same time. The Large Bathers depicts some female nude figures
placed in a space between trees on either side. One striking similarity with Bonheur de Vivre is that it
also has nude female figures as part of the main subject matter. This seemed like a common theme at
the time as artists expressed their thoughts through paintings. In addition, Matisse used color to great
effect in his painting, just as color was used on CĂ©zanne s. The canvas on The Large Bathers shows
the use of color and diagonal lines to give an impression of the element of space both in the
foreground and beyond the position of the female figures. What s different in Matisse s painting is that
the space is shown through the figures that are placed in groups apart, ... Show more content on

Additionally, Picasso s painting shows a connection between the figures in that they seem to have a
focal point that they are facing, just like in CĂ©zanne s painting, where the figures supposedly are all

did in his painting, the difference is that Picasso s painting has the figures defined by sharp pointed
edges unlike the curves in The Large Bathers. The other notable difference is that the sense of space
exhibited in CĂ©zanne s painting is not seen Picasso s, as the figures are crammed up in a limited

how to discover subtle relationships that might exist between the documents by applying
dimensionality reduction to remove noise from the data and better apply the statistical data mining
methods in any given the collection of documents will be tested .
The phrase based document similarity approach to compute the pair wise similarities of documents
based on the Suffix Tree Document (STD) model will experimented in. The results will show that the
performance obtained by the proposed measure should be better than that achieved by other measures,
and the similarity between two sets of documents will evaluated on several real world data sets for
specific problems.

Good At Heart In The Diary Of Anne Frank
How do you picture someone that is good at heart? Maybe you see them as a hero that saved someone
s life, but a person can do the slightest deed and still be considered good at heart. In The Diary of
Anne Frank, there were many characters that contributed to the theme that people are good at heart.
The characters not only developed the theme through their words, but they also developed the theme
through their actions. The Diary of Anne Frank, was a diary that was written by Anne Frank during the
time of World War II and the Holocaust. The diary gave us real life information from the time of that
devastating event. This play showed us that many people are good at heart, but the theme was mostly
developed through the characters Anne Frank, Miep Gies, and Mr. Frank. To begin, Anne was a
selfless, outgoing, and positive young girl that had to live in hiding. Anne was always positive during

Frank also contributed to the theme that people are good at heart. In Act 1, scene 2, he decided to take
in the Van Daan s even though it increased the danger of them hiding. That showed that Mr. Frank had
a big heart because the Van Daan s could have blew their cover, but he took them in anyway. In
addition, in Act 1, scene 5, he took in Mr. Dussel without hesitation. When Miep brought Mr. Dussel
to the Annex, Mr. Frank said that they could stretch the food and would take him in. In conclusion,
Mr. Frank was always looking to help people and take them into hiding.
To tie it all up, in The Diary of Anne Frank, there were many characters that contributed to the theme
that people are good at heart. A lot of the characters expressed this theme, but Anne Frank, Miep Gies,
and Mr. Frank contributed to the theme the most. They contributed to this theme through kindness,
selflessness, and positive thinking. Without the diary that Anne Frank wrote, many people in the world

Summary Of Corrine Carvalho s Primer On Biblical...
Introduction
Biblical interpretation is an area that leaves historians and students perplexed. There are many
questions as to when exactly a certain text was written, whom it was written by, origin of sources, etc.
To answer these questions, Christian historians have developed methods in order to make sense of the
messages in the bible. In particular, Corrine Carvalho s Primer on Biblical Methods works to critically
explain and interpret scripture so readers feel less skeptical about the legitimacy of the text. These
methods include the following: Source criticism, the reconstruction of written sources an ancient
author may have used to compose a text. Form criticism, the way a final author has put a text together.
Traditional criticism, the identification of traditions that an author employs in constructing new texts.
Historical criticism, the historical circumstances that have led an author to write a given text
(Carvalho, 2009, p. 3); they are encouraged for readers to use throughout the bible. If you look at
Psalms, you will find prayers of a poetic nature, almost like a song like. This writing style often leaves
the meaning of its text open for interpretation because it speaks in metaphors, it contains little to no
defining statements. Carvalho s methods can be applied to Psalm 18.
THEO 223 Endterm: Intermediate Exegesis
Source Criticism Psalms 18 is the Psalm of King David. David provides several lines of imagery and
metaphors in the beginning of the Psalm to emphasize the degree in which the Lord has helped him.
The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the most high uttered his voice (Attridge et al, 2006,
Psalm 18:13, p. 746)...He reached down from on high, he took me; he drew me out of mighty waters
(Attridge et al, 2006, Psalm 18:16, p. 747). However, the Psalm has an abrupt shift in subject matter
that suggests the psalmist has put the whole thing together from separate sources. It begins with Psalm
18:20, The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanliness of my
hands he recompensed me (Attridge et al, 2006, Psalm 18:20, p. 747). Every verse before verse 20
was under the theme of thanksgiving. In addition, it had a high dose of metaphor and imagery,

Swot Analysis Of HUL

approximately 49 percent of the total revenues. HUL s brands like Lifebuoy, Lux, Liril, Rexona,
Wheel, Surf Excel, Surf, Vim etc. in soaps and detergent have helped the company to dominate the
market and gain a significant position. The major growth drivers in this segment are sales volume and
price of the products. With the collaborative initiatives like Swachh aadat, we expect a rise in
consumption of soaps and detergents segment in rural as well as urban sector. Therefore, we expect
the soaps and detergent market to grow at 18 percent as penetration in rural market is a slow
phenomenon and based on the Historical CAGR of ~ 12 percent we are expecting it to be in line with
it. We have also assumed that this will dominate approximately 40 percent of the total market share. ...

As shown in the above results finding a phage is not guaranteed. Even when using multiple different
soil samples and different protocol to isolate a phage there is still chance you won t find a phage.
There were no phages present within any of the plates there are a lot of reasons why this might be. The
main reason is probably because of possible errors such as removing from the aseptic zone which
would prevent contamination or having improper techniques for top agar pouring which could also

Though antibiotics have been able to be used in the past to help treat and cure diseases resistance to
most antibiotics is building up fast and medicine needs a new way to treat these diseases and many
other issues. With the use of phage therapy this has become possible since phages attack specific
bacteria it is unlikely that resistance issues will arise like with antibiotics. Also, unlike antibiotics you
will most likely only need one low dose so it is most likely going to be more effective since there
shouldn t patient cooperation issues. Another advantage of using bacteriophages is that new phages are
being discovered everyday leading to more breakthroughs in disease control, bacterial contamination,
and many other issues. Though there are many advantages to using bacteriophages there are a few
disadvantages. One disadvantage is that in order to prescribe phages doctors will need to have an
extended amount of knowledge on the matter which may me that some doctors will choose not use
them. Another disadvantage would be that phages have a very narrow host range means that s in order
to prescribe them you will need to know the specific host you are trying to infect which could me

Plastic water bottles are considered one of the healthiest beverages you can find in any shop. But are
they really all that healthy for the environment, or is there a fine line between a plastic bottled water
drink and what s best for everyone? Let s take a look at bottled water from the very start to find out.
To manufacture plastic bottles, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is used, and to produce PET, crude
oil and natural gas is required. If one fills a plastic water bottle 1/4th full with oil, they will be looking
at how much oil was used to make that one bottle, so how much oil does it take to make all of America

In fact 22% of test water bottle brands had chemical contaminants higher than the state limit (ABC, 1).
So why do Americans think bottled water is so great? Maybe it s because of how much companies
advertise the product, advertising expenses for bottled water totaled $61 million in 2012 (
International Bottled Water Association 1). Whatever the reason may be, bottled water is the second
most popular beverage in the U.S.A., and more and more bottles of water are being produced and
distributed this very second.
Impact on Environment: Only 20% of water bottles that are purchased make it to the recycle bin

photodegrade, meaning they slowly break down into smaller pieces, and then it is estimated to take
between 500 to 1,000 years for the plastic to biodegrade. While the plastic is slowly breaking down, it

and poison animals. But how about transporting the water bottles, and drilling for the materials in the

Persuasive Essay On The Flag
Flags are used by countries for a few reasons beyond just having something to fly in the air.
A country will spend many hours and a lot of money on their flag design because that is their
way of portraying themselves to the rest of the world. Many Americans own and display them
outside their homes, offices, and schools. The flag was there during the Revolutionary War days
and remained there after the attacks of 9/11. Flags can be unifying to a country, and many times
are. The flag makes all American citizens feel like part of a team. Our American flag is a symbol
of pride and freedom for all. The Star Spangled Banner, the national anthem, proclaims, And
the rocket s red glare / the bombs bursting in air / gave proof through the night / that our flag was
still there. Our flag flying through the smoke of warfare gave hope to all Americans, and ever
since the flag has been a symbol of that hope and unity. The flag started as a banner to celebrate
America s freedom and now stands as an icon of world diplomacy. (Online Stores, page 1). As
said before, our flag is greatly tied to freedom. Freedom is a condition in which people have the
opportunity to speak, act, and pursue happiness without unnecessary external restrictions.
Freedom is important because it leads to enhanced expressions of creativity, original thought,
increased productivity, and an overall high quality of life. The idea of freedom is complex; it
must be redefined and defended anew

Rape, murder, theft, and other crimes almost always leave a devastating mark on the victim. More

the technology it uses. Forensic science allows investigators to unmask the secrets of the crime scene.
Evidence gathered at the crime scene helps to identify the guilty party, murder weapon, and even the
identity of the victim (Harkawy, 1991: 276). The new technologies enables the forensic experts to
have better and faster access to accumulated information, to be more accurate in the identification of

important information, such as shoe manufactures, or evidence that links the footprint to marks from

forms of identification is the use of fingerprints and with the use of today s technology, many
corporations can use this type of technology to help prevent various frauds. For example, in the mid
1990 s Metro Toronto s Human Services Committee (MTHSC) proposed the use of a finger scanning
system in order to prevent welfare fraud. People applying for welfare would have to place their index
finger on a scanner. If their prints did not match those of someone already receiving benefits, they
would be eligible for a debit card, which would allow them to withdraw monthly payments from any
bank machine. This type of technology is not in use just yet, but it is available and would minimize
welfare fraud (Sternbergh, 1996: 64). Computers are also highly used in forensic science. For instance,

Coming Of Age In Mississippi Essay
African Americans fought long and hard to achieve racial equality during the Civil Rights movement

The Development of Empathy

Empathy cannot be taught, but it can be caught

Introduction
Empathy and caring is an essential part of human health. We love because we can empathize
(Szalavitz Perry, 2010). Empathy underlies everything that makes society work; such as altruism,
collaboration, love and charity. Failures to empathize are a key part of social problems, such as crime,
violence, war, racism, child abuse and inequity. Although we are genetically predisposed to care for
others, the development of empathy requires a lifelong process of relational interaction (Szalavitz
Perry, 2010). More importantly, the first relationship humans experience, the ... Show more content on

The metacognitive feedback plays an important role in taking into account one s own mental
competence in order to react (or not) to the affective states of others (Decety Meyer, 2010).
This literature review of the emergence of empathy does not adhere to any particular theoretical
models, but to summarize research findings about what contributes to empathic responses. Firstly, we
will focus on infants early social interactions. We focus on imitation, emotion matching, and
emotional contagion as precursors of empathy. These support the formation of strong bonds of
attachment with primary caregivers. This relationship promotes reciprocal responsiveness in the
infant. Following a section on emotional attunement, we discuss research relating to infants abilities to
discriminate emotions. Responses to other people s displays of emotion are discussed and associated
with prosocial behaviour and the cognitive skills that support its development. While there is little
research addressing the neurobiology of empathy during infancy, links are proposed between studies
of infant behaviour and neurospscyhology studies.
Imitation, Emotion Matching, and Mirror Neurons Babies are born with two important skills to
prepare them for empathy the ability to begin to imitate facial gestures and the automatic responses in
which the cries of other infants causes another infant to cry (Szalavitz Perry, 2010). From the first
hour after birth, babies can imitate several

The Birth of Napster To The Death of Privacy
One of the most debated issues before our society is the issue of internet privacy. Privacy is such a
valued concept that in today s world we pay good money in order to keep intruders out of our
computer systems and out of our lives. Peer to Peer downloading is a major factor to the internet
privacy issue. Peer to Peer downloading (also known as file sharing ) is considered by Microsoft to be
the act of making files on one computer accessible to others on a network. The original use of file
sharing was simply meant for users to send files to one another. It has now become one of the biggest

Napster, there was an explosion of programs that tried to leech off their fame. The next big thing
comes when a new and more efficient program to share files emerges. During 2002, a program called
BitTorrent arises. This program revolutionized peer to peer downloading for many reasons. First and
foremost, because of the percentage of broadband users, downloading a music file has become an
extremely quick and painless task. Using Napster with a phone line connection, it would take an
average of half an hour to download one song. With BitTorrent and the increase of broadband users, it
takes a matter of minutes (if even) to download the entire album. But why is BitTorrent so successful?
BitTorrent s successfulness is attributed to the method users share their files. Instead of downloading
the file from one user, BitTorrent breaks up the file into thousands of pieces and takes a part of the file
from each user that is willing to share it. For example, let s say that there are 10 other peers
downloading the T.V. show Lost, 11

A Summary Of Biopsychology
The video begins by showing balls of a variety of colors after being tossed up slightly and beginning
to bounce on a graduated blue surface. In the beginning, all the balls, which have a shadow as they
bounce, seem to be bouncing in synchrony, are in clear focus, and are roughly the same size. However,
as the video progresses, the color of the background continually changes and the shadows have
seemingly disappeared. The balls are bouncing any which way, and seem to have spread out. The balls
that have gravitated towards the back are blurry and small, while the ones in the front are of an
increasingly large size and are in clear focus, so much so, that you can see a reflection off of their
surface as they bounce off the camera. At the end of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is called the striate cortex because of the white stripes that are created by nerve fibers that run
through it. From the striate cortex, signals are transmitted along two pathways, one to the temporal
lobe and the other to the parietal lobe. The where and what pathways start at the striate cortex, and
transmit information to other areas of the brain. The where pathway, also known as the Parietal or
Dorsal Stream, helps the motor system find objects and move towards them. In this pathway you can
find the medial temporal cortex, which receives signals from the striate cortex and combines them
with its neurons to determine the direction and perception of motion. The primary purpose of the what
pathway, also referred to as the Ventral or Temporal Stream, is to identify objects. The striate cortex
also has neurons that respond to specific amounts of disparity, the difference in the images in the left
and right eyes. These neurons have a connection with depth perception as well as size perception.
Depth perception involves a number of stages of processing that begins in the primary visual cortex
and extends to many different areas in both the ventral and dorsal

Ethics and Morality in Vegetarianism
The assumption that animals are without rights, and the illusion that their treatment has no moral
significance is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal
compassion is the only guarantee of morality. (Schopenhauer). I always wondered why some people
are not so drawn to the consumption of meat and fed up with only one thought about it. Why so many
people loathe of blood, and why so few people can easily kill and be slaughter animal, until they just
get used to it? This reaction should say something about the most important moments in the code,
which was programmed in the human psyche. Realization the necessity of refraining from meat is
especially difficult because people consume it for a long time, ... Show more content on

An ancient Greek philosopher and scientist Pythagoras was convinced that whoever kills an animal
without any remorse can easily kill a man. Other philosophers were even more straightforward and
indicated that cruelty to animals leads to wars. It leads me to believe that the attitude towards animals
is not something we can merely write off as a showcase of the innate cruelty of man , but an indicator
of our society s ethical level. If more people become aware of the suffering and death of animals that
we, as a people, have caused, and acknowledge it, it would be a small, but significant sign of moral
growth. Although moral principles have gained increasing recognition due to their usefulness for the
society, i.e. for pragmatic reasons, the evolution of ethics had different roots psychological and
spiritual. It is based on the person s ability for empathy: which is the basis of moral behavior of a
person, his kindness, and decency. It can be argued that the ability for empathy separates man from the
world of animals. With the development of spirituality and feelings of compassion, people began to
feel uncomfortable by the fact that their actions were constantly associated with the infliction of
suffering to other beings, and even their death. Even in ancient times, high minds have concluded that
man,

What Is The Similarities Between A Streetcar Named Desire...
The truth is sometimes a very frightening thing. In the stories A Streetcar Named Desire and The Lady
with the Dog both seem to demonstrate dominant men trying to manipulate the women in their lives.
However, only one changed his toxic ways. The author demonstrates through symbolism and narrating
that. While Stanley from A Streetcar Named Desire and Dmitri Gurov from The Birthmark are
comparable in their blatant disrespect for women, they are distinctive concerning love and willingness
to develop. Furthermore, a comparison can be dissected in that both these men believed women were
inferior. One critical character from A Streetcar Named Desire, was Blanche. Blanche can t manage
certain occasions and conditions of her life. Also, instead of facing them, she withdraws into her very
own dreamland making. Blanche has had a really unpleasant life. Furthermore, withdrawing is her
method for dealing with stress. Stanley was an extremely limit, unpleasant, and definitive. He was not

Stanley s behavior was normal in that of an abuser. Wiiliams states, I want my down here. Stella,
Stella! (2175). The viciousness that he executes is thoroughly unusual to Blanche s understanding.
Stanley raped Blanche to halfway demonstrate his prevalence over her. Gurov was old, so it s
shocking to what extent it took for him to understand that women were more than just objects for him
to play with. Chekhov composes, And only now, when he was gray haired, had he fallen in love
properly, thoroughly, for the first time in his life (267). He has changed, started to see plainly.
Presently he isn t a cheater, he can be caring, true, and faithful. That s the major difference between
Stanley and Gurov. Stanley s character seemed to get even worse as the story progressed, while Gurov

The Department Of The Fire District
The majority of the fire department in the United States are public agencies that their budget money
primarily from taxation. In Arizona, fire departments depend on the taxation of the secondary assessed
value of property. The health of the economy influences the amount of revenue generated through
taxation, where the rise and fall of property values directly correlate to the fluctuation of tax revenue
collected for fire department budgets. The Golder Ranch Fire District (GRFD) is a public department
that is a state agency because GRFD is a taxation district that provides service to an annexed
jurisdiction instead of directly to a city or town. Arizona also has Rural/Metro (R/M), a private fire

There are operation decisions made by the chiefs that directly impact the workforce. The OPFFA
works with the administrators to ensure the decisions are fair and in the best interest of the operation
and not for disciplinary reasons without appropriate documentation. The most recent operational
decision was to rotate all personnel from their current stations and or shifts. The OPFFA worked with
the administrators to compromise on the execution of this process. Instead of all members being
placed by the Chiefs, only the officers were placed, the remainder of the workforce was able to choose
stations and shifts based on seniority requests (N. Latini, personal communication, January 17, 2017).
Before contract negotiations, the OPFFA took a survey to determine the priority of negotiable items

OPFFA then surveyed surrounding departments to determine equal wages for each department
position and used this information to negotiate for significant pay increases for EMT firefighter and
paramedic firefighters (N. Latini, personal communication, January 17, 2017). The most recent
contract negotiations that occurred last year were different in the fact that Envision Care has a contract
negotiation specialist that will only negotiate items guaranteed by law. An entirely new collective

Escherichia Coli Lab Report
Introduction
Escherichia Coli, located in one of the main organs known as the large intestine, is a type of bacteria
that helps digestion. (Trzepacz, Timmons, and Duobinis Gray, 2016) For Escherichia Coli to remain
stable and alive, it needs specific necessities. These needs are known as the following: Energy,
vitamins, and similar compounds. Escherichia Coli is found everywhere!
Escherichia Coli, or E. Coli, can also form a number of these substances itself with the use of energy.
(Shiloach and Rinas, 2009b) Understanding that it can make these substances with energy, E. Coli can
reproduce asexually to make identical cells through binary fission. (Souza, Castillo, and Eguiarte,
2002. ) Since E.coli is found in mammals, studying this subject is important because the factors of E.
Coli have risks such as food poisoning. Escherichia Coli is found everywhere! Knowing this, they
studied the rapid growth measurements of E.Coli in the lab study. After studying the E. Coli, it was
hypothesized that it had a logistic growth overtime. Meaning the growth rapidly grew continuously in
size ending with a resting point.
Methods
When experimenting this lab on your own, there are certain methods and steps you need to follow.
The first step is to make sure that you have all the proper equipment needed for sufficiency and
accuracy. The following equipment is needed: E.coli, Sterile L broth, three incubators,
spectrophotometer, three scientific flasks along with three cuvettes

They are also brave and devoted. Other breeds can be aggressive towards strangers, but all that ought
to be done is; give them a treat. They are good with other dogs and pets if raised with them. The docile
and tolerant nature of greyhounds make them the best pets for children who do not wish to engage in
boisterous play. Greyhounds usually are independent intelligent thinkers and stubborn at times. They
are very sensitive with a quick reaction and they don t respond well to harsh treatment.
Their temperament can be affected by a number of factors. The known ones include; training, heredity,
and socialization. Puppies tend to possess nice temperaments. This explains why they are curious and
playful, and not afraid to approach people. adult greyhounds usually only need to understand what s
expected of them. The owner should show them through absolute consistency, that they mean what
they say. Adult dogs should be given the time and gentle guidance to get used to it. The greyhound is
not a fragile dog, but cannot tolerate rough and tumble play by children or other dogs. Greyhound can
also snap at a child who hits, pinches, pokes or startles it. As with all other dogs, greyhounds should
be supervised until they get along with

Similarities Between Johnson And Clinton Impeachments
This assignment asks us to compare and contrast the impeachment proceedings of Presidents Andrew
Johnson, Richard Nixon and William Clinton, while identifying the ethical dilemmas presented by
each. In addition, students are to categorize the ethical violations of each President by severity and
discuss whether the actions by the Senate were politically motivated or ethical. The initial similarity
obviously lies in the fact that these three gentlemen belong to a very small club of which they are the
only members; Presidents who have been impeached. President Clinton underwent impeachment
proceedings but was not impeached, those who brought impeachment proceedings were unable to
muster enough votes to formally impeach him. President Andrew Johnson also underwent
impeachment proceedings but again, those who sought to discredit him were also unable to muster the
needed votes, so he too remained in office. President Nixon resigned before he was ousted. An
examination of why each of the three were impeached will give us a better understanding of the
political climate of the respective times and why Presidents Clinton and Johnson were able to remain
in office when President Nixon was forced out. According to History Place.com, Andrew Johnson was
a self educated man of humble origin... Abraham Lincoln s vice president during his second term, he
became President upon the assassination of Lincoln in April of 1865 . (Johnson, ¶4). Johnson had no
formal schooling but discovered

Waterproofing Myths
3 Myths About Basement Waterproofing
Homeowners with basements are well aware of the potential problems it has, which includes flooding,
mold, and mildew issues. Thankfully, there are several methods available to you for basement
waterproofing. Before you pick a method to use for your basement, it s important to understand the
truth behind the following 3 myths.
Damp Proofing Inside A Home Prevents Moisture From Seeping Inside
Tar is a great way to help keep your basement dry, but it will not completely eliminate moisture in a
basement. It s typical for homes to have a concrete or brick basement, which are materials that are
very porous. Rainwater can eventually seep into the concrete or bricks, which will cause condensation
to form.

It is important to repair cracks immediately instead of letting them get worse. Unfortunately, you need
to fix the parts of the crack that you can and cannot see if you want to fix it properly. Otherwise, a
patch over a visible crack is only a costly temporary fix.
You ll need a contractor to do exterior crack repair to ensure the problem is fixed properly. It s a more
involved repair process, since they will need to dig around your home to get access to the basement s
exterior walls. They will apply polymer material to the outside of the walls, which will become a
protective barrier against water and moisture, preventing it from getting inside.
Waterproofing Material Installed Under your Floor Prevents Dampness
Cracks can be very troubling in a basement, which is why some homeowners decide to have a
waterproof underlay installed underneath the surface of the basement floor. It works great for places
like a bathroom, since moisture is present and not very prevalent, but not so great for a basement floor.
The waterproof underlay isn t fool proof. While it can help prevent humidity from building up,
keeping your floor dry, it shouldn t be the only

St Patrick s Day Essay
10 Things You Did Not Know About St. Patrick s Day
St. Patrick s Day is a day where we celebrate the Irish heritage and it is often known as the day when
non Irish people are Irish for a day . For a lot of people it is an excuse to have a good time and dress
up in green clothes, drink green beer and drinks or dress up like a full fledged leprechaun. Most
people do not know the true meaning of the day nor why more exactly it is celebrated. Here are ten
things I bet you didn t know about St. Patrick s Day.
March 17th The death day of Patrick
March 17th is the day when Patrick died. St. Patrick is a saint of the Catholic Church and March 17th
is his holy day; the day he died and went to heaven. He spent his life converting pagans of Ireland ...

Patrick s Day has a strong political history
In the middle of the 19th century the Irish suffered from discrimination much like that of the African
Americans. In some cases the prejudice against the Irish was fiercer even. The Irish immigrated in
great numbers to the US and due to their culture, Catholic faith and the poor conditions in Ireland they
were considered to be potentially disloyal and were thus treated very poorly. As a way to battle this
they began organizing themselves politically and by the end of the 19th century St. Patrick s Day was
a grand holiday for the Irish as well as a day for them to demonstrate their political and social might.
The political purpose of the holiday faded along with the discrimination but to this day the holiday
remains as a day full of festivities for everyone regardless of one s cultural background.
Up until 1970 St Patrick s Day was a sober holiday in Ireland
The colour green and drinking are two to things most associated with St. Patrick s Day however due to
Irish law all the pubs were shut during that day. That meant neither beer nor alcohol of any kind for
the celebrants. The law was changed in 1970 when it was reclassified as a national holiday with all
that

The speaker is aggravated mentally by the disappointment of love, believing that things were once beautiful. He is devastated and frustrated when love perishes and feels deceived by the sweet promises love had to offer. In the first stanza, Hardy compares his dying relationship to his surroundings. He sets the tone during this stanza as melancholy and gloomy. The water in the pond represents Hardy s relationship and how it is not progressing in line 1, We stood by a pond that winter day .... The purpose behind this is to establish something to test the research hypothesis against, and essentially proving that the opposite of something is false is the same as proving that the thing is right. People with this disorder usually stop breathing while asleep. This disorder is caused from blockage in the airway. This piece of literature has stood the test of time and remained beloved by many readers. In Class Formation, Politics, Structures of Feeling Geoff Eley states Pilgrim s Progress is, with Rights of Man, one of the two foundational texts of the English working class movement: Bunyan and Paine, with Cobbett and Owen, contributed most to the stock of ideas and attitudes which make up the raw material of the movement from 1790 1850 (Eley 217). At the time, Bunyan titled it The Pilgrim s Progress from This World to That Which Is to Come; Delivered under the Similitude of a Dream . In modern publications of the work, Bunyan s sequel to the work titled simply Pilgrim s Progress, Part II has been added at the end of the original tale. Although the two tales were not originally published back to back, reading them one after the other shows the striking differences between them. Bunyan specifically used different events, people, and circumstance in the two different parts to symbolically show how Christian life can vary greatly depending upon the individual. This free will is a gift, so we can decide the way to live. Still, we should keep in mind that the free will is a responsibility and a gift. The choices people make are a part of the free will and both are compatible. Thus, the idea of free has been argued by numerous philosophers. Therefore, my explanation will base on free will and the consequences of the choice. When you are given the ability to decide on your own, it is free will. For instance, a person was given a personal choice to make and he said to his friend; Do not make me think; tell me what to do. This person did not want to utilize free will and decide on his own, he wanted to be told. Likewise, people have a diverse view about free will. Despite their different perspective, free will is a gift. It comes to the point each person ends up to have different variety of free will. The core aim of the present work is to completely analyze precise electronic structure of the five different doped BaTiO3 systems and the bonding interactions between the constituent atoms. This aim is achieved successfully by adopting maximum entropy method (MEM). In this section, the importance of electron density studies in structure analysis, the formalism of MEM method, the principle, MEM methodology followed in this work to elucidate the electron density are given elaborately. 1.9.2.1 Electron density The electron density is a quantum mechanical observable, that can be measured through scattering experiments, in particular X ray diffraction from the crystals. The possibility of measuring charge density in a crystalline system from its X ray diffraction pattern was conceived several years ago when Debye and Scherrer explained the existence of halos in a powder photograph where the images of the electronic orbit around the atoms [Debye et.al., 1918]. Electron density is the measure of probability of an electron being present at a specific location. The regions of electron density are usually found around the atoms and its bonds. The probability of locating an electron at one point (or) another can be calculated quantum mechanically. This calculation gives a quantity called electron density. According to Mirushe Hoxha if, ideally, the spectator truly receives the presented experience in his/her own self, the experience will leave an eternal trace in the storage of his/her incorporated motivation, that is, in his/her recessive body, at the behest of which his/her future ecstatic bodily functions may echo in the context of social practices. • 26. Transcendentalism, By Ralph Waldo Emerson Re striking the Balance In a constantly updating world, eventually cultural diffusion causes changes to a society s views and practices over a period of time. With many religious pressures in Europe and the constant switch between Catholicism and Protestantism, a group called the Puritans moved to America to start life anew. The Puritan lifestyle took hold of America s New England colonies and became a theocracy of how people lived their lives. People lived by the Puritan interpretation of the New Testament with harsh forms of punishment for the violation of even the most simple sins. Because of this restricting lifestyle and new ideas like the Enlightenment which caused intellectual reforms, people started to break away from the extreme Puritan philosophy. Another movement occurring in America called Transcendentalism, on the other side of the spectrum of Puritanism, started with writer Ralph Waldo Emerson, specifically with his essay Nature . Emerson depicts the prime example of the breaking away from strict religion to Transcendentalism. In America, Emerson was a priest who had been ridiculed and had traveled to Europe to find himself. After meeting up with writers of the Romanticism movement, he fell in love with it and brought it back to America under the name of Transcendentalism. • 28. Wrongful Convictions Of Innocent People Essay Unfortunately, wrongful convictions of innocent people sometimes happen in the criminal justice system. According to a new report from the University of Michigan Law School s National Registry of Exonerations, 2015 set a record for the number of wrongly convicted Americans who received justice; 149 people who were either declared innocent or cleared of their convictions or guilty pleas. Many of them had already served long prison terms for crimes they did not commit (Mencimer, 2016.) There are many causes that can contribute to a wrongful conviction. Witness misidentification is the most common cause; we know that the human mind is not like a tape recorder, and can make mistakes. Forensic analysts presenting evidence that has little or no scientific basis, false confessions by suspects during the interrogation process, government officials taking steps to ensure that a suspect is convicted despite poor evidence, testimony by people with incentives to testify, and poorly prepared lawyers are just some of the other causes that can result in a wrongful conviction. The death penalty case of Cameron Todd Willingham, of Corsicana, Texas, is one that experts now agree that the evidence proves he was wrongfully convicted. But unfortunately, he was already put to death by lethal injection. On December 23, 1991, the Willingham family home was engulfed in flames. Matisse s Bonheur De Vivre, Paul CĂ©zanne Matisse s Bonheur de Vivre, Picasso s Les Demoiselles d Avignon, and Paul CĂ©zanne s The Large Bathers (Harris Zucker, n.d.) were some of the most notable paintings at the beginning of the 20th century. At this time, art had essentially evolved from the impressionist movement, whose ideas were mainly the building blocks of the modernist movement. This paper looks at these specific works with respect to how Picasso s and Matisse s pieces can be regarded as having been inspired by and moving away from CĂ©zanne s piece at the same time. The Large Bathers depicts some female nude figures placed in a space between trees on either side. One striking similarity with Bonheur de Vivre is that it also has nude female figures as part of the main subject matter. This seemed like a common theme at the time as artists expressed their thoughts through paintings. In addition, Matisse used color to great effect in his painting, just as color was used on CĂ©zanne s. The canvas on The Large Bathers shows the use of color and diagonal lines to give an impression of the element of space both in the foreground and beyond the position of the female figures. • 34. Summary Of Corrine Carvalho s Primer On Biblical... Introduction Biblical interpretation is an area that leaves historians and students perplexed. There are many questions as to when exactly a certain text was written, whom it was written by, origin of sources, etc. To answer these questions, Christian historians have developed methods in order to make sense of the messages in the bible. In particular, Corrine Carvalho s Primer on Biblical Methods works to critically explain and interpret scripture so readers feel less skeptical about the legitimacy of the text. These methods include the following: Source criticism, the reconstruction of written sources an ancient author may have used to compose a text. Form criticism, the way a final author has put a text together. Traditional criticism, the identification of traditions that an author employs in constructing new texts. Historical criticism, the historical circumstances that have led an author to write a given text (Carvalho, 2009, p. 3); they are encouraged for readers to use throughout the bible. If you look at Psalms, you will find prayers of a poetic nature, almost like a song like. This writing style often leaves the meaning of its text open for interpretation because it speaks in metaphors, it contains little to no defining statements. Carvalho s methods can be applied to Psalm 18. THEO 223 Endterm: Intermediate Exegesis Source Criticism Psalms 18 is the Psalm of King David. David provides several lines of imagery and metaphors in the beginning of the Psalm to emphasize the degree in which the Lord has helped him. The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the most high uttered his voice (Attridge et al, 2006, Psalm 18:13, p. 746)...He reached down from on high, he took me; he drew me out of mighty waters (Attridge et al, 2006, Psalm 18:16, p. 747). However, the Psalm has an abrupt shift in subject matter that suggests the psalmist has put the whole thing together from separate sources. It begins with Psalm 18:20, The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanliness of my hands he recompensed me (Attridge et al, 2006, Psalm 18:20, p. 747). Whatever the reason may be, bottled water is the second most popular beverage in the U.S.A., and more and more bottles of water are being produced and distributed this very second. Impact on Environment: Only 20% of water bottles that are purchased make it to the recycle bin (Gunzelmann 1). So what happens to all the bottles that are not recycled? A country will spend many hours and a lot of money on their flag design because that is their way of portraying themselves to the rest of the world. Flags can be unifying to a country, and many times are. The flag makes all American citizens feel like part of a team. Our American flag is a symbol of pride and freedom for all. The Development of Empathy The Development of Empathy a literature review [pic] Empathy cannot be taught, but it can be caught Mary Gordon Student: Vanessa Anseline Introduction Empathy and caring is an essential part of human health. We love because we can empathize (Szalavitz Perry, 2010). Empathy underlies everything that makes society work; such as altruism, collaboration, love and charity. Failures to empathize are a key part of social problems, such as crime, violence, war, racism, child abuse and inequity. This literature review of the emergence of empathy does not adhere to any particular theoretical models, but to summarize research findings about what contributes to empathic responses. Firstly, we will focus on infants early social interactions. We focus on imitation, emotion matching, and emotional contagion as precursors of empathy. These support the formation of strong bonds of attachment with primary caregivers. This relationship promotes reciprocal responsiveness in the infant. Following a section on emotional attunement, we discuss research relating to infants abilities to discriminate emotions. Responses to other people s displays of emotion are discussed and associated with prosocial behaviour and the cognitive skills that support its development. While there is little research addressing the neurobiology of empathy during infancy, links are proposed between studies of infant behaviour and neurospscyhology studies. Imitation, Emotion Matching, and Mirror Neurons Babies are born with two important skills to prepare them for empathy the ability to begin to imitate facial gestures and the automatic responses in which the cries of other infants causes another infant to cry (Szalavitz Perry, 2010). Peer to Peer downloading (also known as file sharing ) is considered by Microsoft to be the act of making files on one computer accessible to others on a network. After the birth of Napster, there was an explosion of programs that tried to leech off their fame. The next big thing comes when a new and more efficient program to share files emerges. During 2002, a program called BitTorrent arises. This program revolutionized peer to peer downloading for many reasons. First and foremost, because of the percentage of broadband users, downloading a music file has become an extremely quick and painless task. Using Napster with a phone line connection, it would take an average of half an hour to download one song. With BitTorrent and the increase of broadband users, it takes a matter of minutes (if even) to download the entire album. But why is BitTorrent so successful? BitTorrent s successfulness is attributed to the method users share their files. Instead of downloading the file from one user, BitTorrent breaks up the file into thousands of pieces and takes a part of the file from each user that is willing to share it. If more people become aware of the suffering and death of animals that we, as a people, have caused, and acknowledge it, it would be a small, but significant sign of moral growth. Although moral principles have gained increasing recognition due to their usefulness for the society, i.e. for pragmatic reasons, the evolution of ethics had different roots psychological and spiritual.
