1. Question 4
“Who would be the audience for your media product?”
I did some research into Thriller films on IMDB and YouGov Profiles and their
typical audience. I found that they were mainly aimed at an older audience, ranged
from 20-50 however; I think my own film opening is an exception. As my film
only has teenage characters I aimed mine at a younger audience. However, a lot of
thriller films have an older age range of actors and this is the reasoning behind their
target audiences as they can relate to the age. My film can attract similar audience
however from my narrative, as its quite creepy and mysterious it appeals to an older
audience more.
I specifically used a younger audience to appeal to my target audience as I felt they
would relate to the characters as they are a similar age. My location also will appeal
to the audience as it had graffiti on the walls and this is something that links to
young adults/ teenagers. I chose 15-20 for this reason, and also because I don’t
think it would be suitable for a younger audience as the scenes can be very
distressing.
My audience is most likely to be British as the independent company that made
the film is within the UK. I think people all over the UK would enjoy the film as
any teenager from any area could relate. It doesn’t have any middle class or
working class differences and I think this is the best as it results in having a wider
audience and more views. Many other Thriller films are targeted at a wide range of
social classes, however, some will have a more educated audience as they have
certain aspects that will attract a more educated individual.
