1. 4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
My product is pitched towards 16-24 year olds both male and female. This is
due to two reasons, one being that the most common groups to go to the
cinema are families and 16-24 year olds. This means that by aiming my media
product at a group whom are the most popular to attend the cinema, they
would potentially see my film and because the age gap is so big I can attract a
wide variety of different people. The second point is the fact that I would rate
this in the age rating of 15 purely down to the fact that it is a horror/ thriller
based movie which is not appropriate for younger viewers. Furthermore most
apocalyptic films are deemed as a unisex film meaning that both genders
would approve of this film, I also feel that more films that are contrasting the
same genre and ideology as my product are becoming more ‘fashionable’
with the younger ages therefore I feel that my product is well suited. Films
like “The Maze Runner” and “The Hunger Games” make this genre appealing.
I think my media product would also attract more girls to this particular type
of genre. I believe this because of the dominant female role played by the
lead character that is the only character to be seen throughout the entire two
minutes. Girls do not tend to be a big fan of horror movies due to the
stereotypical view of them being squeamish and scared easily. In many
horrors the lead, heroic role is normally played by a man. However, in mine I
have my female lead character which could potentially attract more women
to view my product and enjoy it as they could see the character as relatable in
ways or even as a role model.
