Question 4 and 5
1. Question 4: Who would be the
audience for your media product?
By Charlotte Whitfield
2. My Audience….
• I believe my film will only have a
niche audience as the themes
and the locations are all British so
other countries will not
understand some situations or
the language used. Also I wanted
to target an audience open to
ideas that would deeply think
about what they have just
watched instead of using my film
as a pure source of
entertainment. This is not a block
buster but if anything an eye
opener to reality and situations
British youths have to face.
• I also wanted a range of ages to
watch my film. Warp films are not
really for children as their
themes are too strong and
American Blockbusters usually go
for the largest audience they can
get for money purposes. I wanted
a range between 15 to 40 year
olds as this category is most likely
to understand the concepts and
relate to the situations more.
Children would be frightened of
the idea of knife crime and the
violence may be too much for
that young audience to handle.
The reason why my film was not targeted for a main stream audience was
because that would defeat the point of a Gritty realism. I would have to have a
story that everyone can understand and something for a large age group. I
wouldn’t be able to get across controversial issues.
4. • When I made my opening
sequence I wanted to show
the theme straight away
with the peer pressure and
violence young adults have
to deal with on a daily basis.
Everyone can relate to this
kind of time in their life as
schools represent a bird
cage where you either
become bright and
beautiful like a parrot or
fade into the background
and become weak like a
pigeon.
• The moral of my film is to
recognise the dangers
society puts on kids with
the idea that we have to
have status and power to
get anywhere in life. That is
why I picked the target
audience I did. I wanted an
audience young enough to
relate to the slang and
problems being shown but
old enough to treat this
maturely and show
empathy when watching
this film.
5. • My film was never designed to be just another
way of getting rid of boredom. I wanted someone
if just one person to realise the problems I have
addressed and to think deeply about why and
how these problems come about. How society
objects to violence and bullies yet this kind of
way of life still happens and nothing has been
done to stop it, apart from posters and adverts
there is no real action.
