1. Course: 11-13 years old
Teacher: Pamela
Institution: Saint Mary’s
Last week, on Thursday with Juan Pedro we went to observe an English’s class at Saint
Mary’s Institute. As we entered, we were guided to the classroom and we waited for the
teacher. The students arrived and so the teacher, her name was Pamela and she
introduced us to the classroom as guests.
At the beginning she made a revision about the topics developed during the previous
lessons and then, she provided students with a photocopy. She read the instructions and
at the same time she guided them with gestures. In the first exercise, she wrote in the
whiteboard an example to explain what they had to do and then students started by
themselves. They did exercise number one without any trouble and after they finished,
the teacher assigned to do number two by reading and using visuals.
All the time, she was kind and when students asked about a doubt she explained in
Spanish. Also she congratulated children with “Good job”, “Perfect” or “Very good” as
they checked the activities in a way to encourage them to continue working. To
conclude the lesson, they played a game, which I remember it is one of the best ways to
learn and enjoy English during childhood. I used to play when I attended to the English
institute, I loved it!
While they were playing and laughing, Pamela told us that they are always respectful
with her and their classmates and that they are ready to work every lesson with the same
enthusiasm. It was a nice experience and I hope to keep learning from other teachers.
