Question 1ā€™s results show us that the majority of my sample (all aged 16-17 6 males and 4
females) enjoy purchasing and reading rock magazines. I asked this question to see how
appropriate the members of this sample would be as a target audience. It appears as if the
majority are moderately appropriate. The thing that may have gone wrong is the fact that a
large percentage of the samples do not like purchasing rock magazines meaning that their
opinions do not stand for as much as some of their counterparts. This means that many
people within the target age group may not enjoy purchasing rock magazines. Despite this,
the majority (60%) do enjoy it; four of which are male (the slightly more prominent target
demographic). These results indicate to us that the rock genre is of high popularity and is an
incredibly suitable genre for a music magazine. I believe that this question is very valid as it
immediately establishes the appropriateness of each individual artist.

This question has allowed us to understand that there are numerous reasons why people
purchase rock magazines. Many readers would prefer to purchase the magazines to gain
information or read articles. The primary reason I asked this open question was to discover
the subjectsā€™ opinions of rock magazines and also why they enjoy them. Any issues with this
question would have related to the previous question. This shows that the target audience
members within the group enjoy rock magazines as they are entertaining, have enjoyable
articles and gives appropriate and pleasurable information about the genre. To the genre,
this means that interviews, articles and reviews of it would make a good addition to the
magazine.

The majority of the questioned sample enjoys listening to rock music despite some not
wanting to purchase magazines of said genre. Amongst the target demographic, the
majority enjoy listening to rock meaning that the selected genre is appropriate. These
results are positive as the vast majority of the questioned sample listen to the music that
they are being questioned about. I asked this question to further ensure how appropriate
the individual members of this sample are in terms of specific target audience (not just age
and gender). Interestingly, one of the sample members that does not enjoy reading rock
magazines, listens to rock music. This shows us that magazines are not the pinnacle of the
rock genre perhaps suggesting that we should focus more on the artists and genre within
the magazine. In terms of my target audience and genre, I believe that the result is positive;
the vast majority of subjects enjoy the music that we focus the magazine on.

5 Seconds of Summer.
These suggestions indicate to use which bands the readers would be interested in. Clear
favourites amongst the subjects are Fall Out Boy and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers with 3
mentions each. Closely following is Bring Me the Horizon, Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold,
Nirvana, Arctic Monkeys and All Time Low all with 2 mentions. I asked this question to learn
which rock artists our target audience would like to see featuring within the magazine. With
this question, not much went wrong but I feel as if I could have specified a limit of how
many bands people can list as some only put one or two while others names several. This
effects consistency but still allows me to analyse the data and determine their favourite
artists. Furthermore, all of the provided examples are bands perhaps indicating that we
should opt for selecting bands to be hoisted on a front cover as oppose to solo singers or
members; I could ask this particular question to a more direct target audience. This shows
us that the target audience do have a firm understanding of the genre in question and also
have ideas of what they would like to see from a magazine.

Analysing this result shows us that the vast majority of the subjects listen to excessive
amounts of rock music; 7 out of 10 listen to 5 or more hours of rock a week. This result is

promising. I asked this question to determine to what extent my target audience is involved
with rock music. This is done as I would like the profile of a target audience member to
include a passionate enthuse of rock music and its sub-genres. The fact that a large
percentage of the audience listen to excessive amounts of rock music indicates that it takes
up a great amount of their time and overwhelms other genres of music within their
metaphorical playlist. One thing that may have gone wrong with the question was the fact
that the subjects who do not enjoy rock music opted for the minimum option; this renders
their information obsolete and lessens the number of appropriate subjects. This illuminates
how passionate the target audience members are about rock music. Perhaps, if the genre is
captured well, this passion could be transferred over to my magazine.

Modern rock appears to be the favourite out of the 6 proposed genres with an
overwhelming 8 votes. Classic rock and Heavy Metal gains a modest 3 votes while Alternate
Rock and Pop-Punk gain 2 points each. Punk rock is left at the bottom with a disappointing 0
points. This questionā€™s purpose was to capture the specific sub-genres of rock music that my
target audience listens to. With this information, I can alter the contents of my magazine to
facilitate this given information. It is needed as rock is a vast genre that consists of countless
completely contrasting sub-genres; the sub-genres need to be established for the magazine.

Once again, a few of the subjects did not have as valid and appropriate information as they
do not listen to rock music.

This pie chart illustrates the fact that 80% of our sample are of white-British origin. Two
others have stated that they are mixed race. I asked this to ensure that the primary ethnic
demographic that the magazine will target will be white-British as stereotypes dictate that
they are more likely to enjoy rock music; this is reinforced by the results. Perhaps, I could
have asked a wider sample to analyse as this sample was of small volume and variety. This
indicates that the target audience will be primarily white as they are more likely to listen to
the genre in question.

This result is completely separated. 50% of the sample have part time jobs. This indicates to
us that half of the sample have obtained jobs and earn money. This aspect is large within
the demographic as it dictates how likely they are to purchase the magazine and whether
they are going to use their own money, hence why I asked this question. One issue is, due to
the clear cut between sample members, it is difficult to pull any useful information from the
question as there is no established majority or minority. Asking a larger sample would have,
most likely, fixed this. This shows that many of the target audience do not earn money
suggesting that we should have a cheaper product. For a direct focus group, I will ask what
their expected price for a music magazine would be.

This is an overwhelmingly evident result; we should include covermounts as they are
incredibly popular. I asked this to obtain peopleā€™s opinions on the addition of covermounts
to a piece. The result is incredibly clear for this question and needs no explanation or
additional analysis- my magazine should include a covermount. Perhaps an expansion
question could ask what could be used for a covermount gift.

These colour scheme ideas are a helping hand as, although I already have a moderately firm
plan that is appropriate to the theme, I am open to outside designs and concepts. Black and
red were the clear favourites with a crushing 5 mentions. Black and red as a theme would be
incredibly well suited for the genre as rock obtains very dark and violent vibes. My idea was
to contrast the vibes slightly and go for a yellow and black theme to support the theme of
ā€˜OutBreakā€™ magazine. Despite this, I could alter the design slightly to include red and black
but I believe that theme is already slightly clichƩ amongst the genre. I asked the question to
enquire about ideas from my target audience. One issue may be the fact that the dominant
colour was not specified; the sampleā€™s ideas only dictated a rough outline of a house style
but did not state which colour would be used more or where. All of the results given reflect
the themes and messages transferred via rock music meaning that the target audience
would perhaps like to see the magazine comply with the stereotype of the genre.

Contrasting the information given prior, covermounts are perhaps not as prolific as first
anticipated; only 3 checks were made. 60% of the sample agreed that articles and artists
included within the magazine were important to the attraction-factor of the magazine but
7/10 believed that the images included are vital to attracting people to the magazine. These
results show us that the target audience finds the included images of a magazine to be vital
to its attraction; this means that the pictures that I take must perfectly capture the genre
and be aesthetically pleasing to the target audience. Also, the artists and articles within the
magazine must look intriguing in order to attract purchasers further enhancing my task to
devise of numerous fascinating stories. Covermounts, despite being the least mentioned
category, must be noticeable and attention-grabbing in order for the product to reach
optimum attraction. I could have included a number of other categories to discover what
other fields I must concentrate on or I may have expanded and asked why these are so
important and what the samples expect from them. These results indicate how important
said factors and features are in ensuring attraction of the magazine. Despite following
popularity, I must confirm that the features mentioned must still refer and reflect rock
music to retain its suitability.

Question 1ā€™s results show us that the majority of my sample (all aged 16-17 6 males and 4 females) enjoy purchasing and reading rock magazines. I asked this question to see how appropriate the members of this sample would be as a target audience. It appears as if the majority are moderately appropriate. The thing that may have gone wrong is the fact that a large percentage of the samples do not like purchasing rock magazines meaning that their opinions do not stand for as much as some of their counterparts. This means that many people within the target age group may not enjoy purchasing rock magazines. Despite this, the majority (60%) do enjoy it; four of which are male (the slightly more prominent target demographic). These results indicate to us that the rock genre is of high popularity and is an incredibly suitable genre for a music magazine. I believe that this question is very valid as it immediately establishes the appropriateness of each individual artist. 2). Why is this? (Expansion). Yes (Reason). This question has allowed us to understand that there are numerous reasons why people purchase rock magazines. Many readers would prefer to purchase the magazines to gain information or read articles. The primary reason I asked this open question was to discover the subjectsā€™ opinions of rock magazines and also why they enjoy them. Any issues with this question would have related to the previous question. This shows that the target audience members within the group enjoy rock magazines as they are entertaining, have enjoyable articles and gives appropriate and pleasurable information about the genre.   • 5. Connor Morewood Media Studies Questionnaire The majority of the questioned sample enjoys listening to rock music despite some not wanting to purchase magazines of said genre. Amongst the target demographic, the majority enjoy listening to rock meaning that the selected genre is appropriate. These results are positive as the vast majority of the questioned sample listen to the music that they are being questioned about. I asked this question to further ensure how appropriate the individual members of this sample are in terms of specific target audience (not just age and gender). Interestingly, one of the sample members that does not enjoy reading rock magazines, listens to rock music. This shows us that magazines are not the pinnacle of the rock genre perhaps suggesting that we should focus more on the artists and genre within the magazine. In terms of my target audience and genre, I believe that the result is positive; the vast majority of subjects enjoy the music that we focus the magazine on. 4). If so, what Artists do you Listen To? Clear favourites amongst the subjects are Fall Out Boy and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers with 3 mentions each. Closely following is Bring Me the Horizon, Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Nirvana, Arctic Monkeys and All Time Low all with 2 mentions. I asked this question to learn which rock artists our target audience would like to see featuring within the magazine. With this question, not much went wrong but I feel as if I could have specified a limit of how many bands people can list as some only put one or two while others names several. This effects consistency but still allows me to analyse the data and determine their favourite artists. Furthermore, all of the provided examples are bands perhaps indicating that we should opt for selecting bands to be hoisted on a front cover as oppose to solo singers or members; I could ask this particular question to a more direct target audience. This shows us that the target audience do have a firm understanding of the genre in question and also have ideas of what they would like to see from a magazine. 5).   • 7. Connor Morewood Media Studies Questionnaire promising. I asked this question to determine to what extent my target audience is involved with rock music. This is done as I would like the profile of a target audience member to include a passionate enthuse of rock music and its sub-genres. The fact that a large percentage of the audience listen to excessive amounts of rock music indicates that it takes up a great amount of their time and overwhelms other genres of music within their metaphorical playlist. One thing that may have gone wrong with the question was the fact that the subjects who do not enjoy rock music opted for the minimum option; this renders their information obsolete and lessens the number of appropriate subjects. This illuminates how passionate the target audience members are about rock music. Perhaps, if the genre is captured well, this passion could be transferred over to my magazine. 6). Modern rock appears to be the favourite out of the 6 proposed genres with an overwhelming 8 votes. Classic rock and Heavy Metal gains a modest 3 votes while Alternate Rock and Pop-Punk gain 2 points each. Punk rock is left at the bottom with a disappointing 0 points. This questionā€™s purpose was to capture the specific sub-genres of rock music that my target audience listens to. With this information, I can alter the contents of my magazine to facilitate this given information.   • 8. Connor Morewood Media Studies Questionnaire Once again, a few of the subjects did not have as valid and appropriate information as they do not listen to rock music. 7). This pie chart illustrates the fact that 80% of our sample are of white-British origin. Two others have stated that they are mixed race. I asked this to ensure that the primary ethnic demographic that the magazine will target will be white-British as stereotypes dictate that they are more likely to enjoy rock music; this is reinforced by the results. Perhaps, I could have asked a wider sample to analyse as this sample was of small volume and variety. This indicates that the target audience will be primarily white as they are more likely to listen to the genre in question. 8). Do you have a Part-Time Job? Yes. No. IIIII- 5.   • 9. Connor Morewood Media Studies Questionnaire This result is completely separated. 50% of the sample have part time jobs. This indicates to us that half of the sample have obtained jobs and earn money. This aspect is large within the demographic as it dictates how likely they are to purchase the magazine and whether they are going to use their own money, hence why I asked this question. One issue is, due to the clear cut between sample members, it is difficult to pull any useful information from the question as there is no established majority or minority. Asking a larger sample would have, most likely, fixed this. This shows that many of the target audience do not earn money suggesting that we should have a cheaper product. For a direct focus group, I will ask what their expected price for a music magazine would be. 9). Would you be Interested in Covermount Gifts? Yes. No. IIIIIIIIII- 10. 0. This is an overwhelmingly evident result; we should include covermounts as they are incredibly popular. I asked this to obtain peopleā€™s opinions on the addition of covermounts to a piece. The result is incredibly clear for this question and needs no explanation or additional analysis- my magazine should include a covermount. Perhaps an expansion question could ask what could be used for a covermount gift. 10). What Colour Scheme would Appealto you for a Rock Magazine? Colour Scheme. These colour scheme ideas are a helping hand as, although I already have a moderately firm plan that is appropriate to the theme, I am open to outside designs and concepts. Black and red were the clear favourites with a crushing 5 mentions. Black and red as a theme would be incredibly well suited for the genre as rock obtains very dark and violent vibes. My idea was to contrast the vibes slightly and go for a yellow and black theme to support the theme of ā€˜OutBreakā€™ magazine. Despite this, I could alter the design slightly to include red and black but I believe that theme is already slightly clichĆ© amongst the genre. I asked the question to enquire about ideas from my target audience. One issue may be the fact that the dominant colour was not specified; the sampleā€™s ideas only dictated a rough outline of a house style but did not state which colour would be used more or where. All of the results given reflect the themes and messages transferred via rock music meaning that the target audience would perhaps like to see the magazine comply with the stereotype of the genre. 11). Connor Morewood Media Studies Questionnaire Contrasting the information given prior, covermounts are perhaps not as prolific as first anticipated; only 3 checks were made. 60% of the sample agreed that articles and artists included within the magazine were important to the attraction-factor of the magazine but 7/10 believed that the images included are vital to attracting people to the magazine. These results show us that the target audience finds the included images of a magazine to be vital to its attraction; this means that the pictures that I take must perfectly capture the genre and be aesthetically pleasing to the target audience. Also, the artists and articles within the magazine must look intriguing in order to attract purchasers further enhancing my task to devise of numerous fascinating stories. Covermounts, despite being the least mentioned category, must be noticeable and attention-grabbing in order for the product to reach optimum attraction. I could have included a number of other categories to discover what other fields I must concentrate on or I may have expanded and asked why these are so important and what the samples expect from them. These results indicate how important said factors and features are in ensuring attraction of the magazine.
