• MEDIATION IS WHERE YOU CHANGE SOMETHING TO GIVE IT A
REPRESENTATION OF THE ‘REAL THING’.
• AN EXAMPLE OF THIS WOULD BE WHERE YOU MAY CROP OUT CERTAIN PARTS
OF A PHOTO OR MANIPULATE EMOTIONS OF SPECIFIC PEOPLE TO GIVE IT MORE
OF A REAL LIFE EFFECT, ATTRACTING THE AUDIENCE TO IT.
4. REPRESENTATION OF THE WORKING
CLASS.
• REPRESENTATION IS THE CONSTRUCTED AND MEDIATED IDEOLOGY OF PEOPLE,
THINGS, PLACES, IDEAS, ETC.
• THE WORKING CLASS ARE SEEN TO BE LAZY, DEGENERATIVE, IDLE, ETC WHEN
BEING PORTRAYED IN TODAY’S MEDIA SOURCES; SOME TV SHOWS DWELL ON
THIS SUCH AS THE REALITY SHOW, ‘BENEFITS STREET’.
• PRIDE VERY MUCH CONFLICTED THE ESTABLISHED REPRESENTATION BY
PREVIEWING A CONFIDENT, RESILIENT PEOPLE WHO STOOD AGAINST THE
THATCHER GOVERNMENT.
5. RADIO.
• THE MAIN CREATIVE PART OF THIS PROJECT WAS SURROUNDED ROUND THE
RADIO INTERVIEW THAT WE HAD TO CREATE.
• ALONG WITH THIS, WE HAD TO FOCUS A LOT ON THE CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF
RADIO INTERVIEWS SO THAT WE COULD IMPLEMENT THESE INTO OUR PROJECT.
THESE CODES AN CONVENTIONS INCLUDED THINGS LIKE INTRO AND OUTRO
MUSIC WHICH WAS SAID TO BE IMPORTANT. THERE HAD TO BE AN INCLUSION OF
OPINIONS FROM THE INTERVIEWER AND EXPERT ETC.
• WE WERE ALSO REQUIRED TO USE SOME OF THE LANGUAGE AS WELL. THIS
INCLUDED CERTAIN ABBREVIATIONS LIKE MB FI, WHICH MEANT MUSIC BED FADE
IN.
6. PRIDE.
• PRIDE’S TWO MOST PROLIFIC REPRESENTATIONS ARE VERY EVIDENT WITHIN
THE FILM- THE WORKING CLASS AND THE LGBT COMMUNITY. BOTH ARE
PRESENTED POSITIVELY AND SHOW THEIR BATTLE AGAINST THE
GOVERNMENT AND THE AUTHORITIES AS WELL AS THEIR STRUGGLE IN
EVERYDAY SOCIETY.
• THE STORY FOLLOWS TRUE EVENTS AND PEOPLE WHO CHALLENGED THE
STRIKING FORCES AND OVERCAME ADVERSITY. THE FILM APPEARS TO BE
ACCURATE BUT TAKES A STRONG STANCE ON THE MATTER LEAVING AN
ACTIVE AUDIENCE WHO DO NOT CHALLENGE THE OPINION PROPOSED.
7. EDITING.
• ONE OF THE MOST PROLIFIC SOFTWARE PROGRAMS THAT WE WILL USE
THROUGHOUT THE COURSE IS GARAGEBAND. SAID PROGRAM REVOLVES
AROUND THE SOLE AUDIO ASPECT OF A PIECE AND ALLOWS THE USER TO
ALTER AN AUDIO SEGMENT WITH EASE.
• FOR THE FULL COURSEWORK PROJECT, SOME VARIATION OF A VIDEO EDITING
SOFTWARE WILL BE UTILISED TO FACILITATE FOR A VISUAL ELEMENT FOR THE
PROJECT.
8. PRODUCTION DIARY.
• WITH EACH LESSON AND/OR EVERY SUBSTANTIAL STEP IN THE COURSEWORK
PROCESS, WE KEEP TRACK OF IT BY ANSWERING NUMEROUS QUESTIONS
REGARDING THE TOPIC.
• THE QUESTIONS ASK WHAT HAS BEEN LEARNT THAT WAS NOT KNOWN
BEFORE, HOW TO DO IT, ETC.
9. A2 SUMMARY.
• THE A2 COURSE COVERS A VARIETY OF AREAS. FIRSTLY, WE LOOKED AT PRIDE
AND CREATED A RADIO SHOW ON THIS, FOLLOWING THE CODES AND
CONVENTIONS OF A TYPICAL RADIO SHOW AS WELL AS DEVELOPING OUR
SKILLS ON GARAGEBAND. WE WILL ALSO MAKE A DOCUMENTARY ON A
CHOSEN SUBJECT THAT WE WILL DECIDE ON IN OUT GROUPS. THIS WILL
INVOLVE A RANGE OF SKILLS FROM THE FILMING TO THE EDITING. IN SOME OF
OUR THEORY WORK, WE STUDY WORKING CLASS LIFE AS WELL AS STUDYING
THINGS LIKE MEDIATION AND REPRESENTATION WITHIN THE MEDIA.
